  I have been installing software packages from USC and I am getting the following error message. Worked fine one minute then the message below. Tried to search but couldn't find a solution Previously I was installing the sun-java6-jre package in terminal and had an connection outage and it didnt complete. I attempted an apt-get -f install with no success. i dont know what to try next. I'm relatively new to Linux.   My game as-is is using IrrlichtLime, which I'm beginning to dislike because it hides a lot of implementation and makes adding your own implementation incredibly complex. I don't really need the scene manager for anything and the only animation I need is manual (i.e. transforming the bones programmatically). However, I've only ever used XNA in the past as a starting point with the templates. How would I take my current project and add XNA to it?

• Are there existing FOSS component-based frameworks?

  The component based game programming paradigm is becoming much more popular. I was wondering, are there any projects out there that offer a reusable component framework? In any language, I guess I don't care about that. It's not for my own project, I'm just curious. Specifically I mean are there projects that include a base Entity class, a base Component class, and maybe some standard components? It would then be much easier starting a game if you didn't want to reinvent the wheel, or maybe you want a GraphicsComponent that does sprites with Direct3D, but you figure it's already been done a dozen times. A quick Googling turns up Rusher. Has anyone heard of this / does anyone use it? If there are no popular ones, then why not? Is it too difficult to make something like this reusable, and they need heavy customization? In my own implementation I found a lot of boilerplate that could be shoved into a framework.

I selected the option to retain other partitions and to delete only c drive. • Netbook partitioning scheme suggestions

  I got a new Asus EEE PC 1015PEM with 2GB RAM and a 250GB HD. After playing with the netbook edition a little, I would like to install the desktop edition I'm used to. In addition to ubunto partition(s), I would like to have one separate partition for data (documents, music, etc.), so I could try other OSs in the future without losing the data. What partition scheme would you recommend? I usually like to let the installation do it by itself, but when I try to that I can only use the entire disk, so I don't get the desired data partition. I wish there was a way to see the recommended default partitioning scheme, then just tweak it a bit to fit your needs (instead of building one from scratch). So, how would you recommend I partition my HD? Please be specific since I never manually partitioned before. Thanks!

  I am running 12.04 live from cd and trying to copy some important files from a mounted hard disk to an external disk. (My previous installation of 10.04 crashed and I want to install 12.04, and back up some data before that). When I try to copy files from the mounted disk to the external one, I get the following error: There was an error copying the file into /media/New Volume/L300_Bkp_2012_06_04/pics Error opening file: Permission denied Is this related to the source(mounted hard disk) or the target (external disk)? How do I get around this?

  So I downloaded the latest version of Java from Oracle so I could get a 64bit JVM on Ubuntu Server 10.10.   Setting up and managing an Ubuntu server all by myself, in coming months, is a part of my current plans. Hence, I am planning a swtich from Windows to Linux - - Ubuntu. I now need to get some grip on the command line, since I am all used to Windows' GUI. Anyway... the most obvious start is installing apps on my computer, and I thought I should learn to do it via CLI. And this is what I did: $ apt-cache search chrome browser the results showed that the proper term is "chrome-browser," so... $ sudo apt-get install chrome-browser And then "Y" for the Y/n question. But the installation threw errors. (I do not have my PC at hand, so can't mention what error exactly.) Does someone see anything wrong with the commands I issued? I am probably missing some command(s) in between, I think.

  i tried everything since days, now i ask. i got a ubuntu system on my old hdd, wich is connectet via usb to this system and a sdd is build in my notebook. at the moment i am running a ubuntusystem from an usb stick. it have tried to clone my disk(cahnge uiid, etc), to transport the data via deja dup and much more. the result was nothing or strange things. my idea is to copy the important data form the old system to the new(home and whatever), but it is not allowed to do this. somebody her who know a tool wich can do this, or got an an other idea.

I managed to get Ubuntu booted but the screen looks like a corrupt/glitch image. I can just about make out the clock on the bottom right and a few icons. I've been told that this is an easy fix and that nomodeset needs to be set for the graphics card but all the solutions i find are for a hard drive installed Ubuntu where you can cd in and edit the grub file - how do you do this is it's in an iso?   I have Intel Hardware Raid on the motherboard. I have 10 2 TB HDD that I've configured as RAID 1+0 to be one big 8 TB HDD. Now I'm trying to install ubuntu 12.04 on it. After installing with default desktop installation disk I get a blank screen with a cursor flashing. If I try the alternate guided partitioning option I get error: out of disk. and the grub prompt. If I boot with the rescue disk or such like I can drop into a shell and view the disk. Everything also installs without an issue. Don't know what to do...

  So you downloaded and installed SP1, but now you want to verify that SP1 actually installed! Looking at Outlook's Help Screen under Help->About, it isn't readily apparent that SP1 is installed. Like me, you probably expected to see 14.1.something. Perhaps 14.0.something SP1, right? If you click on that "Additional Version and Copyright Information", another window will pop up and show you a bit more useful info (if you don't have the version numbers committed to memory) That window *does* give us that comforting SP1, and now we can determine that if you have Office 14.1.6023.1000 (and beyond) you are indeed runnning Office 2010 SP1!

If I run vmware-hgfsclient in a terminal, I get the list of shared folders but /mnt/hgfs is empty.

• Can't boot from liveUSB when trying to install it alongside Windows 7

  I'm very noob at Linux and installing techniques. I want to install 12.04 from bootable usb flash alongside Windows 7 (also tried live CD but not working) but computer is not booting from USB flash or LIVE-CD and boots windows 7 (Acer Aspire 4750g) and of course I have set the BIOS priority in the right way. There is one important point to tell that I have installed Fedora 16 on my laptop successfully and now I have it on my system. When I was trying to install Fedora I got some error and searched about it and got this point that I should delete a .efi file and then installation went right. In this case , what should I do to solve the problem? (I also don't need my Fedora anymore).
