• What is a name for a job where you do system analysis, project management and data diagramming?

  In the last 4 months I've been able to manage a team and step away from the coding for a bit. I've been planning the system in full (both System Analysis and project managing, alongside action and data diagramming) writing the technical documentation, the code's architecture, keeping track of the other guys doing the actual coding, QA, bug reports and dealing with clients. I had to take two days' training on node.js just to see if it would be suitable for a project we were considering. Is there a name for this job? Project Manager and Systems Architect don't quite seem to have the same stuff, and IT manager seems way off. I only want to know so that I can get some qualification towards it and try to move into this kind of work full-time.

• DirectX9 dynamic rendering

  What I am planning to do is have the models (or maybe just an identifier for the model to be used) stored outside of the directX9 framework, and so in nature have completely dynamic rendering. All of the information that I have found contains static rendering (rendering models that are stored in memory at specific positions) I would like information on how to take a model (or identifier for a model type) that is stored outside of the framework, and render it to the screen. I am expected to take a container that holds all the relevant data to be rendered. The information outside would hold the position, orientation (quaternion, though I am told that I can also get a rotation matrix if I prefer), and dimensions (scale)

Customers seeking to move existing environments to OWB 11gR2 should review the new whitepaper, OWB 11.2: Upgrade and Migration Paths. This whitepaper covers the following topics: The difference between upgrade and migration, and how to choose between them An outline of how to perform each process When and where intermediate upgrade steps are required Tips for upgrading an existing environment to 11gR2 without having to regenerate and redeploy code to your production environment. Moving up from 10gR2 and 11gR1 is generally straightforward. For customers still using OWB 9 or 10.1, it is generally possible to move an entire environment forward complete with design and runtime audit metadata, but the upgrade process can be complex and may require intermediate processing using OWB 10.2 or OWB 11.1. • Drawing territories border in 2d map

  I'm programming a little web strategy game. In the country map I pretend to display each country with a national color. The issue is how to render the borders in a simple and efficient way. Right now I'm planning to set a field to each tile called "border" with values from 0 to 8. The algorithm would check for EVERY tile is its adjacent has a different "owner". If the tile is inside the territory, the border value would be 0, because would not have adjacent any tile with different owner, if not, would vary between 1 (north) clockwise to 9 (north-west) and then draw the border. I find this simple but too processor-intensive. Are there any other "pro" choices to render territories borders?

  I need your suggestions guys regarding the project I'm planning to create. I want to create a kiosk software/application that is capable to access database in a server. (So, there's a networking here..)Because the information that will be displayed in a Kiosk screen will be coming from a database in other computer. So my problem here is, I don't know which programming language is the best for this kind of application. I'm thinking about using Visual Basic 6.0 since my group is comfortable using this programming language, but I also want to consider the design. I don't like a plain button. • Installing Lubuntu on to Android tablet and switching os in between

  I would like to install Lubuntu onto my tablet, as it seems more lightweight than ubuntu. However, it seems there are only images for Windows/ Mac? For Android devices, what image shall I download? I've also found an article about installing Ubuntu on Android phone. And by installing VNC, it seems that one could "switch" from OS to OS on the phone, i.e. I could be viewing the Ubuntu OS on the phone via a VNC viewer, and closing the viewer gives me back the Android OS. My questions are: 1) What ubuntu/lubuntu image (windows?mac?) shall I download in order to get this done? 2) My ultimate goal is to run some windows programs on a Android tablet. I am planning install a lubuntu os and then wine... what will be the minimum hardware requirement in order to do this? Thank you very much!

• Geometry instancing in OpenGL ES 2.0

  I am planning to do geometry instancing in OpenGL ES 2.0 Basically I plan to render the same geometry(a chair) maybe 1000 times in my scene. What is the best way to do this in OpenGL ES 2.0? I am considering passing model view mat4 as an attribute. Since attributes are per vertex data do I need to pass this same mat4, three times for each vertex of the same triangle(since modelview remains constant across vertices of the triangle). That would amount to a lot of extra data sent to the GPU( 2 extra vertices*16 floats*(Number of triangles) amount of extra data). Or should I be sending the mat4 only once per triangle?But how is that possible using attributes since attributes are defined as "per vertex" data? What is the best and efficient way to do instancing in OpenGL ES 2.0?

  Can anyone provide a rough outline of their git workflow that complies with continuous integration. E.g. How do you branch? Do you fast forward commits to the master branch? I am primarily working with Rails as well as client and server side Javascript. If anyone can recommend a solid CI technology that's compatible with those, that'd be great. I've looked into Jenkins but would like to check out other good alternatives. To put some context into this, I am planning on transitioning from working as a single developer into working as part of the team.   Lenovo T520 with integrated Intel HD graphics + a NVidia card (Optimus) Ubuntu 11.10 on the computer. I would like to use the built-in screen plus two external screens. This PDF indicates that it is possible to connect up to four external monitors to the laptop. The information is Windows only. I was planning to disable the NVidia card, since I have read that Linux support for Optimus is not good. Questions: Has anyone set up three monitors on NVidia hardware? My requirements are: simple (I won't do a large, complicated website) and lucid well coded (OOP), extensions, templates, active development (not 3 years old) nice but temperate text editor (+images, links), tags and categories, page break easy integration with Flickr, Picasa and social networks technology: PHP and MySQL, not cloud service (like Posterous or Tumblr) Could you recommend me some blogging software which would meet these criteria?

• Rapid prototyping and refactoring

  Sometimes when I start a small project (like an android app), I don´t know which approach will work out at the end, and I just go for one approach and give it a try. But if I never used this approach before (for a sort of application I´ve never programmed before) it is like stepping into unknown terrain. I don´t know which libraries to use (maybe I have to try out several libraries) and there are so many unkonwns (like: how to get raw audio data in android) So then my development process goes like this: Write a piece of code to see if the approach has a chance. (The more uncertain the approach is, the uglier the code gets) If it works, refactor a lot until it is beautiful I think it could be a waste of time if I planned my software design in detail at this point, it would be like planning a trip without a map. Is this part of aglie development? How do you deal with unknown terrain in software development?

• Googlebot fetches my pages very frequent, rel-nofollow, meta-noindex or robots.txt-disallow

  Googlebot fetches pages in my site very frequently. And this slowens my website. I don't want Googlebot to crawl too frequent. I decreased crawl rate from Google webmaster tools. But I'm supposing to use these three tools: Adding rel="nofollow" to my inner pages. So Googlebot won't crawl and index them. Adding meta tag "noindex" so Google will remove this page from index and won't get it again. Adding Disallow: /mySomeFolder/ to robots.txt and Googlebot won't crawl that pages. I'm planning to use these methods for my 56.000 pages, except the most important 6-7 pages. Which method would you prefer and what would be disadvantages or advantages ? Or won't it change my website speed etc..

• Scripting a sophisticated RTS AI with Lua

  I'm planning to develop a somewhat sophisticated RTS AI (eg see BWAPI). have experience programming, but none in game development, so it seems easiest to start by scripting the AI of an existing game I've played, Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War (2004). As far as I can tell, the game AI is scripted with some variant of Lua (by the file extension .ai or .scar). The online documentation is sparse and the community isn't active anymore. I'd like to get some idea of the difficulty of this undertaking. Is it practical with a scripting language like Lua to develop a RTS AI that includes FSMs, decision trees, case-based reasoning, and transposition tables? If someone has any experience scripting Dawn of War, that would also help.

• Backend devs put down by user stories

  I planned to slice in backend development into to the user stories vertically. But a backend guy on our team started to complain that this makes their work invisible. My answer was that at the sprint planning and review meetings we discuss backend tasks in front of stakeholders so it makes it visible, and maintaining a high quality during the project will result a slower startin pace than other teams, but we will have a stable velocity during the project. And velocity is highly visible to stakeholders. He still insist having stories like: "As a developer I need to have a domain layer so I can encapsulate business logic." How can I solve the issue before it pollutes the team? The root of the issue is that our management systematically consider backend work as invisible and call backed devs miners, or other pejorative terms.

  After a long silence, I will continue blogging on .NET. The becoming post will be a book review (one is confirmed for now). Timeframe is in a few weeks.Tech tips are still on hold, it's harder to write new tips on ASP.NET anymore, feels as if everything is almost immediately covered after the product launches so planning a writing serie or something beforehand isn't really interesting.
