How Does Domain Know Where Your Web Host Is Located [closed]

Possible Duplicate: How Does Domain Know Where Your Web Host Is Located? I just purchased a domain name from RapidNames, and a hosting plan at JustHost. I was told to enter JustHost's name server (ns1.justhost.com) in my domain name's name server field and wait for 24 hours for the process to be complete. I do not understand how RapidNames can find my account on JustHost's server as I am sure I am not JustHost's only customer. I have read the article How DNS Works that John Conde has posted, but I still do not understand the issue. After reading several other articles, I am beginning to understand how it works, but I would still like someone to confirm if I am correct or not. From my understanding, linking your domain name to your web host is a two step process. First, you need to tell your domain name who your web host is. This is done by providing the two DNS server addresses. Secondly, you need to tell your web host which domain names you own by entering your domain names into the domain name manager. As a result, when someone queries your domain name, they will be forwarded to your web host. The web host will look in their database to match the domain name the account's owner, and then serve the appropriate website. I want to confirm if my understanding of how a domain knows where your web host is located is accurate?

Subdomain on a separate server (Windows/IIS) won't load default web site?

I've got a domain hosted under godaddy.com. I set it up so that subdomain.mysite.com points to a different server which uses Windows/IIS (say for example ip 1.1.1.1). When I go to the subdomain I get no errors, but no webpage loads. In IIS under the default website I added a bindings for subdomain.mysite.com with the ip of 1.1.1.1, but still nothing loads, just a totally blank page. I know for sure the subdomain host is working correctly because when I ping my subdomain, the correct IP shows. What am I missing to get this working?

Web map services displaying poorly

Web map services no longer display correctly in ArcGIS and Google Earth - no one else on network is experiencing these. Using windows 7 OS. These problem began abruptly (1 day they were working, the next they were not). Specific problems include not displaying at all; correct display on 10% of the monitor and repeating lines of coloured squiggles and text on the remaining 90%; and small, widely spaced, pixels in place of colour fill. How are the conceptual pairs Abstract/Concrete, Generic/Specific, and Complex/Simple related to one another in software architecture?

(= 2 (+ 1 1)) take the above. The requirement of the '=' predicate is that its arguments be comparable. Any two structures are comparable in this case, and so the contract/requirement is pretty generic. The '+' predicate requires that its arguments be numbers. That's more specific. (socket domain type protocol) the arguments here are much more specific (even though the arguments are still just numbers and the function itself returns a file descriptor, which is itself an int), but the arguments are more abstract, and the implementation is built up from other functions whose abstractions are less abstract, which are themselves built from less and less abstract abstractions. To the point where the requirements are something like move from one location to another, observe whether the switch at that location is on or off, turn the switch on or off, or leave it the same, etc. But are functions also less and less complex the less abstract they are? And is there a relationship between the number and range of arguments of a function and the complexity of its implementation, as you go from more abstract to less abstract, and vice versa? (= 2 (+ 1 1) 2r10) the '=' predicate is more generic than the '+' predicate, and thus could be more complex in its implementation. The '+' predicate's contract is less generic, and so could be less complex in its implementation. Is this even a little correct? What about the 'socket' function? Each of those arguments is a number of some kind. What they represent, though, is something more elaborate. It also returns a number (just like the others do), which is also a representation of something conceptually much more elaborate than a number. To boil it down, I'm asking if there is a relationship between the following dimensions, and why: Abstract/Concrete Complex/Simple Generic/Specific And more specifically, do different configurations of these dimensions have a specific, measurable impact on the number and range of the arguments (i.e., the contract) of a function?

PHP hosting some info required [closed]

I have recently given a control of newly bought hosting space and the domain account. There is a technical team from the hosting site to help out with problems, but that is a long process, i.e. log a ticket, wait for a long time, and I don't get the correct answer in the first shot. I was wondering, if anyone has any helpful guide and how one must go with hosting a site. Any info that must be know w.r.t to cpanel? Any other useful stuff if any one has, or could point me to ? Just to give a few difficulties: The same php code working well on local machine, giving error on remote as "File not found". The file is present indeed as I have ftp'ed all the files correctly. session_start error are outputted to html page with warning "Header already sent". and many more technical things, that work well on local but not on actual hosting server. So, if anyone has any helpful stuff in this reference, as to what all changes are required or what a programmer must be aware from a hosting perspective, please let me know. Note I am hosting a PHP site with mysql db, on a shared environment.

Debian: Give users permission

I have a www-data that was automatically set up when I installed Apache. I have a ftpuser that I configured myself to use with ProFTPd. I use a MySQL database with users that use this user to log on. The problem is that Apache with PHP is working as it should, but I cannot add files with FTP. I tried to do chmod 777 mysite.com, and it worked, but now Apache gave me a 500 internal error. I suppose chmod isn't the correct way to go. I deleted my folder and made a new one. How can I give ftpuser permissions to read and write, while www-data should not loose its permissions. I don't have much experience with Linux command line. Thanks!

Accessing to shared folders with OpenVPN

This is my first attempt to configure a vpn so I have very little knowledge about this. Network where centos server is having local IPs 192.168.123.* Network where windows machine is having local IPs 192.168.1.* I installed and configured my openpvn server on centos 5 and client on a windows machine. Generated all keys, certificates e.t.c and transferred them to client and I'm able to connect to server. Below there is a screenshot of the client log. Also on server side I can also see incoming packets with this command tcpdump -n port 1723 So I assume I did most of the things correct. But still when I try to open shared folders using \\192.168.123.33 or \\network-name I can't access folders

Two Network Adapters on Hyper-V Host - Best way to configure?

I have two physical network adapters installed in my Hyper-V host. I want one to be dedicated to the host, and the other to provide external network services to the VMs. Would the appropriate configuration be as such: Leave the first physical network adapter alone, assigning it the host IP, but not using it to create any Virtual Netorks For the second physical adapter, I would create an External Network, along with a Microsoft Virtual Switch, and use that to provide network services to the VMs. Each virtual NIC for the VM would be associated with that External Network. A static IP would be assigned to this adapter, and each VM would be assigned a static IP as well. The above seems reasonable to me, but I'm not sure if it's correct. Does anyone have any thoughts? Recently used contacts getting corrupted Outlook 2010

We are using Microsoft's Identity Integration Feature Pack to sync contacts between two separate domains at two separate branches of our company. Recently we have run into an issue with a few of the contacts being pulled/synced from this remote location. When people in our organizaion are sending emails to certain contacts that are being synced from the remote location, the message delivery fails. After looking into the issue we are seeing that this failure is the result of the email being sent to some obscure email address rather than the correct email address. For example, the email address is getting changed to IMCEAEX_O=NT5_ou=44C5AE1BBEE0ED499F607407769311BB_cn=2F31FA0CA187314FA8D6A99BEFC52C36@domain.com rather than [email protected] Clearing the recently used contact list seems to solve the issue, but it does not solve the underlying problem. Because this issue is starting to happen to several different people I would like to solve the underlying cause. Does anyone have any input on how to start troubleshooting this issue? Also, we are using Exchange 2010. Thank you for taking the time to look at this.

Can't install GTX 680 drivers on 12.04

I recently installed Ubuntu 12.04 on my desktop. I have three monitors, and after installing, ubuntu only detected one at 1080p. I downloaded the driver from the nvidia website, but when I stop lightdm and try to run the driver, it gives me an error message: ERROR: Unable to find the kernel source tree for the currently running kernel. Please make sure you have installed the kernel source files for your kernel and that they are properly configured; on Red Hat Linux systems, for example, be sure you have the 'kernel-source' or 'kernel-devel' RPM installed. If you know the correct kernel source files are installed, you may specify the kernel source path with the '--kernel-source-path' command line option. I tried instead to install the driver via the terminal, with the X ppa. The installation seemed to work, but when I rebooted, my display was at 640x480 resolution, with no other options for resolution. The NVIDIA X Server settings program is there now, but when I run it, it simply tells me that I don't seem to be using their driver, and that I should run nvidia-xconfig as root. Doing so doesn't help, I simply get the same issue again. I checked the file at /etc/X11/xorg.conf, and it's an NVIDIA file (has nvidia in the header). Does anyone know something else I can try? EDIT: Forgot to mention, I tried installing drivers via the "Additional Drivers" GUI utility, there were two options, one of them marked "(post-release updates)". I tried both of them, in both cases it tried to download and install for a while, then said that there was an error, and that a description could be found at /var/log/jockey.log. Both logs were over 700 lines

Is it necessary for a Windows Server 2008 R2 to join a domain so that its IIS can communicate correctly?

I have a Windows Server 2008 R2 that is not join to any domain. I have developed an web application that will display the domain name and the username on the server itself. However, when I publish my web application to IIS, it always fail and display different types of error messages (because I change settings such as Enabled ASP.NET Impersonation, Disable Anonymous Authentication, Set Application Pool to Classic and so on) So, I was wondering if it is necessary for the Server to join in a domain so that I can reduce any unnecessary error message and be able to zoom into the correct direction?

Can't resolve Mac's machine name on VPN

My mac'c machine name is something like this: hostname.company.com but whenever I connect to VPN, it becomes something like vpn-xxxx.company.com where xxxx are some random numbers. Because of this, some of my scripts which are dependent on host name gets blocked. We use the standard mac's vpn setup which comes with OS X Lion (under network preferences). How can I resolve to the correct mac's name even if I am on vpn ? That is even if I am connected to VPN, my machine name should resolve to hostname.company.com and NOT to vpn-xxxx.company.com. Any suggestions would be really appreciated.

How to setup my texture cordinates correctly in GLSL 150 and OpenGL 3.3?

I'm trying to do texture mapping in GLSL 150 and OpenGL 3.3 Here are my shaders I've tried my best to get this correct as possible hopefully this is :) I'm guessing you want to know what the problem is well my texture shows but not in its fullest form just one section of it not the full texture on the quad. Hosting-why should I pay? [on hold]

Can I avoid, eliminate or neutralize propagation? Hours of research for a first-time unregistered domain returned the usual suspects ("Oneandblank", "GoBlanky", "BlankCow", "HostBlank-or" and others)all with 24-72hr or more. Would a roll-your-own, inhouse SHO Linux/Winserver box help? Thank you so much! edit; navigating SF for my first time I now notice the "professionals" air and feel to the comments. Although I feel justified for being here(armed with directly relevant, well-rounded knowledge/proficiency/experience)I apologize for diving in headlong without proper post etiquette or correct placement. Windows 2012 Master & Ubuntu Bind 9 Slave & SOA

I'm kinda like the maid... I don't do Windows. But thanks to new things we're implementing, I'm now attempting replicating a single zone from our AD cluster. We had this working just fine but someone had to "adjust" it. That broke the replication completely. We've gotten that restarted but now a different DC is showing as the SOA. Does it matter which of the domain controllers is listed as the SOA? The contents of the zone file appear to be correct. Part of me says "Good enough. Leave it be." but the rest of me doesn't want a 3AM phone call. So does anyone know if it matters which DC is listed as the SOA?

Amazon AWS EC2 instance pricing

It seems to me that Amazon obfuscate their pricing somewhat. So if I were to create a "m1.medium" instance and run it say 4 hours a day what would I be charged per month? (assume nothing else needed) You'd think this would be straight forward to answer, but I don't see a clear answer anywhere. This tool: http://calculator.s3.amazonaws.com/calc5.html Gives: $22.21 If I set it to 1 hour is gives: $5.65 But is this correct? The m1.medium has a Local storage of 410gb... I assume that this is persistent, but is it charged for? In the tool from Amazon this is not implied or suggested or hinted at. Any guidance would be most appreciated!

how to know which display number for the variable DISPLAY to be exported when ssh to server

When i ssh to server using -X, i always confuse about which display number i should export. It seems to me sometimes the display number has been used by something, so what i can do is only export DISPLAY=localhost:0 && xclock export DISPLAY=localhost:1 && xclock export DISPLAY=localhost:2 && xclock export DISPLAY=localhost:... until the clock appear. Then i will use that display number. Each time log in to the server, the display number which is able to tunnel the gui data correct would be different. I know many of such similar questions has been asked and answer. However I couldn't find answer to my question, anyone know about it? Thanks!

I'm having a problem running a scheduled task in Windows 2003 server, it ran for 4 hours, now it won't start up again. I will tell you exactly what I have done to create the task, please tell me if I am doing anything wrong. My objective is to have my task (console app) run every 30 minutes. I open control panel, scheduled tasks, add new scheduled task Browse for my application I want to run, a console app without any command line arguments I select, perform this task - Daily I select the start time (now 8:00 in the morning) Start date set to today Set the correct username + password Open advanced properties Repeat the task every 30 minutes for 24 hours Save and close. Redirect URL to a Tomcat webapp

I have a Tomcat server with two webapps, app1 and app2 (the app part is really the same). Each app has an independent group of users. I would like the groups to be able to access their respective app using group1.domain.com/app and group2.domain.com/app URLs, meaning that the numbers should be hidden from the URL displayed in browser. I suppose there needs to be a mechanism that would return the correct app based on the group# part of the URL. I have a vague understanding of URL rewrites. Is there a way to do this with only Tomcat? Or do I need Apache HTTP server? I would rather not use Apache if possible, but have no problem going that way if necessary.

How to auto detect text file encoding?

There are many plain text files which were encoded in variant charsets. I want to convert them all to UTF-8, but before running iconv, I need to know its original encoding. Most browsers have an Auto Detect option in encodings, however, I can't check those text files one by one because there are too many. Only having known the original encoding, I then can convert the texts by iconv -f DETECTED_CHARSET -t utf-8. Is there any utility to detect the encoding of plain text files? It doesn't have to be a 100% perfect correct, but it should recognize most of them.

Which open source/free CMSs allow for staging content changes before putting live?

I'm not sure that I've phrased the question all that well. What I'm really looking for is a feature of CMSs where content changes are made on a restricted access 'staging/preview' site, before being published to the live external site. The open source/free CMSs I've looked at so far (Textpattern, WordPress, Movable Type) don't seem to allow this, as far as I can see. Although they allow new content to be saved as draft/pending, viewable by users with appropriate privileges, this doesn't work with changes to existing content -- a post/page can't be live and also have a new version pending. (Do correct me if I'm wrong). I realise it should be possible to do this by making all changes on a staging site, and then replicating the contents of that database to a separate live site manually, but am looking for something a little more elegant. Edit: Just to clarify, both systems which involve synchronising a live database with a staging database systems which offer live/staging views of a single database would be of interest. Am sure I have seen both approaches in commercial/proprietary CMSs.

What's the advantage of using a bash script for cron jobs?

From my understanding you can write your crons by editing crontab -e I've found several sources that instead refer to a bash script in the cron job, rather than writing a job line for line. Is the only benefit that you can consolidate many tasks into one cron job using a bash script? Additional question for a newbie: Editing crontab -e refers to one file correct? I've noticed that if I open crontab -e and close without editing, when I open the file again there is a different numerical extension such as: "/tmp/crontab.XXXXk1DEaM" 0L, 0C I though the crontab is stored in /var/spool/cron or /etc/crontab ?? Why would it store the cron in the tmp folder?

Apache routing vhosts to /var/www

One user at my site has reported that he reaches the content at /var/www when browsing to any of the vhosts at my server. As far as I’m aware, my Apache server does not contain a document root that references this folder. On top of that, this user seems to be the only one experiencing the issue. According to his ISP, the issue isn’t caused by them, yet, on his mobile connection, he can access the site. When browsing to my server’s IP, he also receives the correct content from the default vhost. What could be the possible causes of this issue and how can I get it to stop? I’ve explored pretty much every option I could think of.

I have set up the subdomain http:// dev. website .com The files that I want to use for this subdomain are on the server in a folder called development http:// www. website .com /development in the directory structure they are in /htdocs/development What do I need to add the the httpd.ini file to point the http:// dev .website .com to file files located in the /htdocs/development folder on the server?
