• Override some DNS records and delegate others to another nameserver

  I'm starting playing with nameservers. Currently I have: A domain: mydomain.com Access for writing the whois ns records. Access for writing DNS records at the domain hosting provider. nsX.foo.com A shared (hostC) hosting which cPanel writes in the nameserver of nsX.bar.com Basically I want the following structure: hostA.mydomain.com -> hostA hostB.mydomain.com -> hostB hostC.mydomain.com -> hostC mydomain.com -> hostC *.mydomain.com -> hostC Whats the correct way of configuring this? By the way I have configured the following records hostA.mydomain.com IN A [IP_OF_hostA] (at foo.com nameservers) hostB.mydomain.com IN A [IP_OF_hostB] (at foo.com nameserver) But now I dont know how to specify that @.mydomain.com and *.mydomain.com are resolved by the ns1.bar.com and ns2.bar.com, and it is hard to try with the delays after editing the records.

  I upgraded from Fedora 14 to 16, recently. I had two static IP v4 addresses configured on my ethernet interface by creating two files in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts: ifcfg-eth0 -> first address ifcfg-eth0:1 -> second address After the upgrade, this resulted in an error message during the boot process and in only the second address being successfully configured on the interface. So, what is the correct way to configure multiple addresses on a single interface on Fedora 16? I could not find anything on this subject in the documentation so far.

  Hello alltogether Currently I am wondering whether it is possible to apply asymetric encryption of a directory in Linux. I would like to achieve the following: Write log files to /var/log/secret Everything written to /var/log/secret is instantly encrypted by a public RSA key (or something similar) The encryption programms I know, i.e. ecryptfs do not support asymetric encryption of files, at least as far as I know. (Correct me if I am wrong). Therefore I am asking here whether you know of any possibility to implement this. Thanks in advance

• Dual boot windows 8 pro and windows 7 on XPS 8500 Special additon

  I am trying to install a dual boot with windows 7 premium and windows 8 Pro on an XPS 8500 special edition. I created a new primary partition on my C: drive, inserted the windows 8 install disk, and rebooted my computer from DVD. I select custom install and the dialog box saying where do you want to install windows at? pops up but none of my drives are listed. Please help me determine what is going on? I don't understand why none of my drives are showing up on this menu. Not even the original drive. When I go to load driver and click on the partition I created it tells me "No signed device drivers were found. Make sure the installation media contains the correct drivers, and then click OK."

• Seek first to understand, then to be understood

  One of the most important (and most difficult) lessons for a technical professional to learn is to not jump to the solution. Perhaps you’ve done this, or had it happen to you. As the person you’re “listening” to is speaking, your mind is performing a B-Tree lookup on possible solutions, and when the final node of the B-Tree in your mind is reached, you blurt out the “only” solution there is to the problem, whether they are done or not. There are two issues here – both of them fatal if you don’t factor them in. First, your B-Tree may not be complete, or correct. That of course leads to an incorrect response, which blows your credibility. People will not trust you if this happens often. The second danger is that the person may modify their entire problem with a single word or phrase. I once had a client explain a detailed problem to me – and I just KNEW the answer. Then they said at the end “well, that’s what it used to do, anyway. Now it doesn’t do that anymore.” Which of course negated my entire solution – happily I had kept my mouth shut until they finished. So practice listening, rather than waiting for your turn to speak. Let the person finish, let them get the concept out, give them your full attention. They’ll appreciate the courtesy, you’ll look more intelligent, and you both may find the right answer to the problem. • ssh rsa keys expires after 5 years

  I'm using an old login with ssh-rsa public/private key and all was good. I noticed that a couple of days ago the authorizazion was avoid with message "server refused our keys". After diggin' I figured out that the couple of keys stop working after exactly 5 years of their creation. So I make a new pair of keys, take the public one, paste inside a file in ~/.ssh of the username that I'm using, converted it with ssh-keygen -if and paste the new file into authorized_keys but the I still get "server refused our key". It's ok to copy and paste the real key without transfer it? What I'm missing? This isn't my first time using a pair of keys and I follow the same procedure as described. I'm in doubt if I'm changing the correct authorized_keys file but I've take a look in /etc/passwd and see where is the home of the login which I'm using.

• Why are my Google searches redirected?

  This machine was infected with various malware. I have scanned the system with Malwarebytes. It found and removed some 600 or so infected files. Now the machine seems to be running well with only one exception. Some Google search results are being redirected to some shady search engines. If I were to copy the url from the Google Search results and paste it in the address bar it would go to the correct site but if I click the link I will be redirected somewhere else. • Picasa 3 - All 88 'people' folders are empty - can I restore the files?

  My wife uses Picasa 3 on her laptop, and has a problem. She has no idea how it happened but somehow the left hand panel in the Picasa 3 window shows "People (88)" but listed below it are the 88 names each with "(0)" alongside. No thumbnails show up for any of the 'people'. I have looked through all the menus and can see nothing that seems relevant and a search on this website has been fruitless too. Can anyone please tell me how I can correct this situation? FYI I backed up the laptop to a portable hard drive a few days ago (using Windows Backup and Restore) and wonder if this can be used to restore the database.

• Gmail Embed Image Icon

  I'm using the Gmail labs feature that allows me to embed images into emails. The feature works fine and when I send the email, I believe it actually does embed the image and the recipient sees it as such. But when I look in my sent box and bring up the email, instead of the embedded image, I see an icon in its place. Is this correct? Why is this like this? I want to be able to see the embedded image just like when the email was composed.

• Quaternions, Axis Angles and Rotation Matrices. Which of these should I use for FP Camera?

  After 2 weeks of reading many math formulas and such I know what is a Quaternion, an Axis Angles and Matrices. I have made my own math libary (Java) to use on my game (LWJGL). But I'm really confused about all this. I want to have a 3D first person camera. The move (translation) is working fine but the rotation isnt working like I need. I need a camera to rotate arround world Axis and not about its own axis. But even using Quaternions, this doesnt work and no matter how much I read about Euler Angles, everybody says to me dont touch on it! This is a little piece of code that i'm using to make the rotation: Quaternion qPitch = Quaternion.createFromAxis(cameraRotate.x, 1.0f, 0.0f, 0.0f); Quaternion qYaw = Quaternion.createFromAxis(cameraRotate.y, 0.0f, 1.0f, 0.0f); this.multiplicate(qPitch.toMatrix4f().toArray()); this.multiplicate(qYaw.toMatrix4f().toArray()); Where this is a Matrix4f view matrix and cameraRotate is a Vector3f that just handle the angles to rotate obtained from mouse move. So I think I'm doing everything right: Translate the view Matrix Rotate the Move Matrix So, after reading all this, I just want to know: To obtain a correct first person camera rotate, I must need to use Quaternios to make the rotations, but how to rotate around world axis? • Are there any program for showing tooltip via OCR

  Edited for clarification based on comments: At work we have an old developed program where I need to navigate on a very long dropdown list only with numbered codes. To select the correct code, I manually look at an excel list that shows the code and the name each codes corresponds with. To make matters worse, it is not possible to type in the dropdown box (only first character is recognized when typing) So my question is: Are there any program which can show the text from a predefined list, when i mouseover the various possibilities in the dropdown list? The purpose would be to be able to identify the name which corresponds to each code, without having to look at the excel list. Thanks in advance!

• Issue updating domain name servers from BlueHost to AWS

  I am trying to migrate my site hosting from bluehost to AWS cloud based service. I have the site up and running on AWS with an elastic IP configured, it loads fine when I specify the IP address in the browser. I have gone into Route 53 on the AWS console and created a "hosted zone" for the domain. I then created a new record set of type "A" using the IP address as the value. I have a domain name registered with bluehost. Ive logged into the bluehost account and updated the domain name servers to point to those specified in Route 53 in the AWS console. When I hit the IP address directly the site loads, however it doesn't load when using the domain name (I get a google chrome oops error page saying page is not found) I've tried using this site: http://dns.squish.net/ to debug but it seems to be giving me the correct results. fizaclegems.com 300 IN A 107.20.209.78 Where 107.20.209.78 matches the elastic IP configured in the AWS console. This is the result it gives for all 4 name servers. Am I missing a step here? Does anyone know what else I should be doing or looking for?

• What is involved with writing a lobby server?

  So I'm writing a Chess matchmaking system based on a Lobby view with gaming rooms, general chat etc. So far I have a working prototype but I have big doubts regarding some things I did with the server. Writing a gaming lobby server is a new programming experience to me and so I don't have a clear nor precise programming model for it. I also couldn't find a paper that describes how it should work. I ordered "Java Network Programming 3rd edition" from Amazon and still waiting for shipment, hopefully I'll find some useful examples/information in this book. Meanwhile, I'd like to gather your opinions and see how you would handle some things so I can learn how to write a server correctly. Here are a few questions off the top of my head: (may be more will come) First, let's define what a server does. It's primary functionality is to hold TCP connections with clients, listen to the events they generate and dispatch them to the other players. But is there more to it than that? Should I use one thread per client? If so, 300 clients = 300 threads. Isn't that too much? What hardware is needed to support that? And how much bandwidth does a lobby consume then approx? What kind of data structure should be used to hold the clients' sockets? How do you protect it from concurrent modification (eg. a player enters or exists the lobby) when iterating through it to dispatch an event without hurting throughput? Is ConcurrentHashMap the correct answer here, or are there some techniques I should know? When a user enters the lobby, what mechanism would you use to transfer the state of the lobby to him? • Redirect channel to another speaker

  Hi, I'm not sure about the title but don't know how to say it in a clearer way. My Soundcard is a Creative X-Fi and I'm using the Creative console starter. Now I'd like to use my speakers not only for my normal screens but also when using a beamer. Due to my room's geometry, the only place for the beamer's projection is a wall which is right to my normal screens (so the projection would be between the front right and the rear right speaker). Now I'm thinking about redirecting the channels to the correct speakers somehow. As far as I remember, in previous version of creative console starter there was an option to do this (e.g. redirect front left to rear right output channel). Does anyone know how to do this with software? Of course I could install a cable switch, but if there's a way without I'd prefer this :) Thanks in advance.

• How can I see if apache is overloaded and dropping or not accepting connections?

  Basically I just want to see if apache is handling a current level of high traffic or if I need to tune it to handle more connections. (I have found plenty of information on the actual tuning, so no help needed there) I know it has been dropping or not accepting connections earlier today, but not seeing anything in the error logs. Is the expected behavior to throw a 503 in the error log if apache cannot accept more connections? If so, what error logging level do I need in order to see these? What is the correct terminology: dropping connections or not accepting connections? MPM is prefork, OS is Linux, apache version is 2.2.15.

• Windows boot iso file without press any key

  I'm trying to make an iso file which will boot without any key-press from the user. In Windows iso files, when booting from a cd, there is a message "press any key to boot from cd" which will wait for 5-10 seconds and then, if there is no key-press, it will boot from HD. I searched the web for how to remove this message, and do not press any key and all the answers were "delete bootfix.bin" from the iso. I edited the iso (I've tried several iso files) to remove the bootfix.bin, but now the iso is not correct. Do you have any suggestions?

• Dual Monitors don't turn off/sleep when they should

  Details: Dual 25" monitors connected to HP Envy via HDMI and display port via DVI adapter. Power scheme is set up in high performance (Dim Display: Never - Turn Off Display: 15 mins - Computer Sleep: Never) Screensaver is set up to kick in after 10 mins of idle (which happens) 5 minutes later, the screensaver stops. The "Monitor Going to Sleep" notice appears on screen and monitors go to sleep briefly. All is well thus far. Suddenly, the Windows 7 alert sound when a device is unplugged is heard. Monitors then turn back on. Screens are black. Only the mouse cursor is displayed. Backlighting is back on. This only started happening after I obtained and connected the second 25" monitor a few days ago. However, I had a 24" in its place before, and this wasn't happening. Why is this happening and how do I correct this behavior? Thanks in advance.

• How is the PHP extensions/modules file structure logic based?

  I'm trying to configure/build PHP 5.3.10 on Linux/Slackware 12 but the extensions appear in the wrong directory when I run make install. In the php.ini file is the extension dir defined: /usr/lib/php/extensions Problem is that when I run "make install" the newly built extensions are copied to a subfolder in extensions directory: /usr/lib/php/extensions/no-debug-non-zts-20090626 What am I supposed to do with this... copy the files down from the no-debug-non-zts-20090626 directory into the extensions directory, create symlinks from extensions to the modules in the no-debug-non-zts-20090626 directory (which will take a lot of time) or what? (I know I can do any of them, but I want to know the correct way...)

• Setting JAVA_HOME on Ubuntu 10.x

  I'm trying to get the Rhodes framework installed so I can develop Android apps. This requires that I install the SUN JDK and add JAVA_HOME and JAVA_HOME/bin to path. I thought I could solve this by editing my bash.bashrc file: JAVA_HOME="/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun/jre/bin/java" export JAVA_HOME PATH=$PATH:$JAVA_HOME/bin This still doesn't work, because when I run: rake run:android I get a prompt in the console that says the Java bin was not found in my path. However, running echo $PATH gets me: usernamee@ubuntu:~$ echo $PATH /usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/games:/home/username/ruby/gems/bin:/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun/jre/bin/java/bin:/home/username/ruby_files/android-sdk-linux_86/tools What are my options here? Edit: If the problem is not the export statement, how can I ensure that the Sun JDK is properly installed and that I am, in fact, pointing to the correct path in bashrc?

• How can i compare Audio, what programming language should i use

  I have 2 audio files that are from almost the same source. But at some points there shifted a bit. Also the codecs does not match. I would like to make a program that takes a sample 2 - 4 seconds. And looks for it in the other file. (Most of the time it's not shifted more than 30 seconds). Than take the time and store it, Go ahead for a few seconds take a sample and find it again. This way i want to create a file where i can see on what points the file is shifted. For people who are more interested in what i want. I have a audio/video file speech and subtitles. But i have same speech from different sources with differs a bit in time. And i like to make a program that can correct the subtitle time for me. Enough about the problem I looked on the Internet for ways to compare audio files. Based on what i read comparing 2 audio files isn't that easy as i had hoped. • Can't install on a Thinkpad W700ds

  I want to install Ubuntu on my computer. I don't know much about Linux, but I know my way around a terminal and whatnot. My computer, a ThinkPad W700ds, refuses to read from my CD when booting. The md5sum is correct and the same CD boots fine from another computer. When I try to install from a USB, I can get the main screen, but when I select any of the options from there my screen turns black for more than 3 hours until I have to turn it off. Is there anything I can do about this? I want to have a true partition, don't want a Wubi'd install. It's a 10.10 x64 image, but my computer is 64 bit (running Windows 7 x64 right now) and the exact same CD is bootable on other computers. I've been on #ubuntu IRC for days trying to work this out but nobody knew, so I figured I would get more responses by posting to here. UPDATE: Thanks Jorge Castro. Both the alternate and desktop installers seem to not work at all with the CD. On a USB, the alternate installer lets me start installing, but in the middle of installation I get this message. The people on #ubuntu told me to just exit installation at that point, so I did.

• "bin/sh: can't access tty; job control turned off” error when running shellcode"

  I'm writing shellcode to exploit a buffer overflow vulnerability on a server. To do so I have port binding shellcode that I send to the server and then I run (from a linux terminal) the command telnet serverAdress 4444 where 4444 is the port which I have opened up. The hope is that I will receive a shell back that I can use to execute commands. However, I always end up with the command bin/sh: can't access tty; job control turned off I can't change any of the server code, and I believe the shellcode is correct because I got it from this website (http://www.tsirogiannis.com/exploits-vulnerabilities-videos-papers-shellcode/linuxx86-port-binding-shellcode-xor-encoded-152-bytes/). From my research, it appears that this may have to do with the mode that my terminal is running in (something called interactive mode...or something like that). All computers involved are linux machines and the machine that I am on is running the latest version of Ubuntu. Any ideas what this job control error means and how I can fix it?

  i,v been searching the internet for a real noop tutorial on the subject but could not found any direct info. on how to edit these files the proper way. i,v got a debian internet server that i use to host some personal domains and runs squid and rTorrent. the server is up and running with no problems but i am confused about a few things. lets say that i named my server (foo), my domain is (example.com) and my public IP is 95.211.133.200 now: should /etc/hostname contains: tango.example.com or tango <----- just the server name should /etc/hosts contains: 127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost 95.211.133.200 foo.example.com foo should /etc/resolf.conf contains (along with the nameservers) both: domain example.com search example.com or just the first one. are there any other files that i should edit in order to make things right? last thing, the command: domainname returns: (none) i believe it should return (example.com). what should i do to correct that?

• Command line, determine 64 or 32 bit?

  I need to reinstall Windows on a laptop. I have the product key (its on the laptop), and I know it is Windows 7 Home Premium. I need a way to determine if 64-bit or 32-bit Windows is installed, so that I can download the correct one from Microsoft. The computer is messed up so I do not have access to Windows to check it with systeminfo. I took out the hard drive and hooked it to another computer, but when I run systeminfo it just gives information for the host computer, I did not see a way to change this.
