• Test sql connection without throwing exception

  To test if i can connect to my database, I execute the following code : using (SqlConnection connection = new SqlConnection(myConnectionString)) { try { connection.Open(); canConnect = true; } catch (SqlException) { } } This works except it throws an exception if the connection failed. Is there any other way to test a Sql connection that doesn't throw an exception ? Edit : To add precision, i'm asking if there is a simple method that does that without having to open the connection and catch exceptions that can occur

• Getting EL variable properties in eclipse

  I'm using Eclipse/Spring source to edit JSP tags and EL. If I want to check what all the properties of a variable are is there a way to do this? Or even find out which file is generating the variable that's passed in. I'm thinking something along the lines of firebug for Javascript, where you can select an object and drill-down to get it's properties.

Now, all I can find is some mysql workbench which is only useful for designing data... Both programs I'm talking about allowed you to manage servers, create database, create tables, index, perform querys, edit data, etc... unfortunately I don't even recall there names... • efficient algorithm for drawing circle arcs?

  I am using the mid-point circle algorithm (bresenham circle) to efficiently draw whole circles. Is there something similar to draw circle arcs?   Possible Duplicate: Visual Studio opens default browser instead of IE I want to change the default browser used by Visual Studio for debugging. Normally the route I'd take to do this is right clicking on an .aspx file and setting the default from the 'browse with' dialog. Unfortunately, MVC views don't have the browse with option. What other ways can you set the default browser? EDIT: FireFox is set to my default browser in Windows, but VS still opens up IE.

• In Jetty, can NCSARequestLog be configured to auto-detect the time zone?

  It looks as though in 2003 or so NCSARequestLog would pick up the system time zone using TimeZone.getDefault().getID(), but in more recent versions it seems as though it's hard-coded to GMT, unless you override it in jetty.xml or programmatically. If true, this kind of annoying, since it means if you don't want GMT logging you have to edit jetty.xml for every installation (not to mention twice a year for daylight saving time). Is there a workaround that will let Jetty pick the time zone up from the system?

• NSSet to NSData, then back out again, for GameKit?

  Hi guys, I'm trying to do some image edit syncing between two of the same app running on different iPhones. I would like to send an NSSet * from one device to another (which I imagine involves encapsulating in NSData) then decrypting this back to an NSSet, then using it in a touchesMoved type of function. Is this feasible, or should I work on syncing the UIImages instead? I worry that UIImage syncing would have too much latency for realtime interaction. Thanks for your help!

  I have this set NSMutableSet *mySet = [NSMutableSet setWithObjects: @"2", @"8", @"7", @"0", @"3", nil]; I copy the set to an array and sort it using NSArray *sortedArray = [[mySet allObjects] sortedArrayUsingSelector:@selector(compare:)]; The resulting array is in exactly the same order as the set and is not being sorted.
