• Servlet Filters and the OSGi HttpService

  I'm working on an OSGi-based application that uses org.osgi.service.http.HttpService which does not support the use of Servlet Filters. Before I realised that I wouldn't be able to use Servlet Filters I was planning to apply a couple of existing Filters. These Filters set the appropriate HTTP headers to: prevent caching of responses control rendering in IE8 with the X-UA-Compatible header What are my options here? I don't want to use meta elements to control caching since that technique is unreliable. Using a meta element to set the X-UA-Compatible header is probably acceptable, but I'd still be interested in alternative approaches.

• Upload large files in .NET

  I've done a good bit of research to find an upload component for .NET that I can use to upload large files, has a progress bar, and can resume the upload of large files. I've come across some components like AjaxUploader, SlickUpload, and PowUpload, to name a few. Each of these options cost money and only PowUpload does the resumable upload, but it does it with a java applet. I'm willing to pay for a component that does those things well, but if I could write it myself that would be best. I have two questions: Is it possible to resume a file upload on the client without using flash/java/Silverlight? Does anyone have some code or a link to an article that explains how to write a .NET HTTPHandler that will allow streaming upload and an ajax progress bar? • Why is MonoDevelop compiling with csc.exe?

  I am trying to use MonoDevelop (2.4 beta 1) on Windows (7 x64) in order to test a .NET application on Mono (2.6.4). For some reason MonoDevelop is not using the Mono tool chain to build the application. It compiles it with the Microsoft tool chain - C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v3.5\csc.exe. The project I am trying to build is a simple ASP.NET MVC application generated from the "New ASP.NET MVC application" template. The "Runtime Version" dropdown in Project \Options-Build-General shows "MONO/.NET 35". What gives? Is there a way to change the .NET tool chain?

  Using Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate I created a ASP.NET MVC 2.0 Web Application. Its about the new features for Web Application Deployment. I dont see an option to precompile Views. Also I dont see other options that where available in previous version of Web Deployment Project: ie if the web is compiled into a single assembly or into one assembly per page. I had the impression that Application Project Deployment is the scuccessor of Web Deployment Project.. maybe I am wrong about it. How should I precompile views now?

  I'm about to create a site that will act as public front site of company that sells furniture, but after user log in, he'll see much more options. Internal news, files to download, customized pricings, newsletters, etc. - stuff for wholesale clients. I want to make it quickly and maintain/extend it easily. I'm asp.net developer and while I could write it in python, php, whatever else (I know these too), I still prefer asp.net. I was thinking about umbraco, since it gives a real productivity boost and that I familiar with it ( and extending it). I've had a short romance with ASP.NET MVC, so I know what it's all about, but I would still spend some time learning it (but what a fun!). Of course, there's also webforms, but that's my last choice here. Last but not least to mention is the SEO. The question is, have anyone of you had similiar dilemma and what was your final choice?

• What library is used for the main menu in the facebook iOS app?

  I'm making an app that has more options than will easily fit into a UITabBarController. I wanted to use something like what the facebook app has for its main menu. My guess is that it isn't proprietary to facebook, because the SCVNGR app uses something similar. This library lets you re-order the icons the way you can re-order the apps from the main menu (i.e. press and hold - icons jiggle - you can drag them around). Does anyone know what library provides this UIView? I'd like to use it if possible. Thanks!

• Fastest way to do mass update

  Let’s say you have a table with about 5 million records and a nvarchar(max) column populated with large text data. You want to set this column to NULL if SomeOtherColumn = 1 in fastest possible way. The brute force UPDATE does not work very well here because it will create large implicit transaction and take forever. Doing updates in small batches of 50K records at a time works but it’s still taking 47 hrs to complete on beefy 32 core/64GB server. Is there any way to do this update faster? Are there any magic query hints/table options that scarifies something else (like concurrency) in exchange of speed? NOTE: Creating temp table or temp column is not an option because this nvarchar(max) column involves lots of data and so consumes lots of space!

  hi I am using Android 2.2 . I am unable to connect my emulator to internet . When I open my web browser in the emulator it shows the message "Web Page not available" . I have set proxy settings in the emulator (settings - Wireless & Networks -Mobile Networks - Access Point Names). Also , I set proxy settings in eclipse (Windows- Preferences- Android- Launch- Default Emulator Options). • How listen for UIButton state change?

  I'm extending UIButton with generic functionality to change certain appearance attributes based on the displayed title. In order to do this, I need to detect and respond to changes in the "state" property. This is so I make sure the appearance is adjusted properly if the user has set different titles for different states. I assumed I would need to use some sort of KVO like the following: [self addObserver:self forKeyPath:@"state" options:NSKeyValueObservingOptionNew context:nil]; But this does not seem to fire the observeValueForKeyPath:... method for @"state" or @"currentTitle". I assume this is because UIButton does not implement the KVO pattern for those properties. I do not want to just listen for clicks. Those events cause a state change, but are not the only potential causes. Does anyone know a way to listen to and respond to state changes of a UIButton? Thanks

  Regarding data validation, I've heard that the options are to "fail fast, fail early" or "complete validation". The first approach fails on the very first validation error, whereas the second one builds up a list of failures and presents it. I'm wondering about this in the context of both server-side and client-side data validation. Which method is appropriate in what context, and why? My personal preference for data-validation on the client-side is the second method which informs the user of all failing constraints. I'm not informed enough to have an opinion about the server-side, although I would imagine it depends on the business logic involved.

  Hi, I am recently have been successfully installed NetBean 6.8 on Ubuntu Box (10.04). But the problem is, NetBeans doesn't use the Gnome mouse Cursor by default. instead, It uses some freak mouse cursor that I hate! So, do you have any idea about how to change the cursor that appears inside netbeans.(I have looked inside tools options but without any output) Also I have did: $ grep -iR cursor * Binary file var/cache/all-resources.dat matches Binary file var/cache/all-layers.dat matches Binary file var/cache/index/s2/javascript/8/1/_0.cfs matches (note, I didn't talked here about how to change the cursor inside some Java program written in NetBeans) Thanks in advance.

  I'm loading an external script (that creates a new window component) into a panel, which works fine. Now, I want to access the created window from a callback function to register a closed event handler. I've tried the following: panel.load({ scripts: true, url: '/createWindow', callback: function(el, success, response, options) { panel.findByType("window")[0].on("close", function { alert("Closed"); }); } }); However, the panel seems to be empty all the time, the findByType method keeps returning an empty collection. I've tried adding events handlers for events like added to the panel but none of them got fired. So the question is: how do I access the window in the panel to register my close event handler on it?

• Django-pyodbc mssql/freetds server connection problems on linux

  Error: ('IM002', '[IM002] [unixODBC][Driver Manager]Data source name not found, and no default driver specified (0) (SQLDriverConnectW)') I'm migrating from developing on a windows development machine to linux machine in production and I'm having issues with the freetds driver. As far as I can tell that error message means it can't find the driver. I can connect via the cli via sqsh and tsql. I've setup my settings.py as such. 'bc2db': { 'ENGINE': 'sql_server.pyodbc', 'NAME': 'DataTEST', 'USER': 'appuser', 'PASSWORD': 'PASS', 'HOST': 'bc2.domain.com', 'options': { 'driver': 'FreeTDS', } }, Does anyone have any mssql experience with djano? do I have to use a dns? • Interchanging presentModalViewController and pushViewController

  I am using a sample ViewController that is displayed in the sample program as a presentModalViewController. However, I want to use pushViewController on the UIViewController instead. The problem is that when I switch to pushViewController, the ViewController no displays properly. Functions in the ViewController are called, but I don't see anything. I change back to presentModalViewController and everything works. The question is what do I need to do to make pushViewController work? • Drawing an NSAttributedString into a non-rectangular CGPath?

  I generate a rather complex NSAttributedString in my iOS 3.2 application (iPad), including formatting options of type CTParagraphStyleSetting, in particular with values for kCTParagraphStyleSpecifierMinimumLineHeight and kCTParagraphStyleSpecifierParagraphSpacing. When I try to draw this attributed string into a non-rectangular CGPath, Core Text draws it but without the line spacing defined; that is, all text appears crammed in paragraphs without line spacing. Needless to say, it does not look as pretty as if the CGPath was simply defined using a single call to CGPathAddRect()! Is there any setting I can specify (to my CTFramesetterRef or to the CTFrameRef associated to the culprit CGPath) to avoid losing all line height information? Thanks!

• WPF Show Open TabItem Names in a List View

  I'm trying to display a list of open tab names in a listview or listbox (recommendations?). Been going through the different type of binding options and I'm able to bind to a single tab name but it displays vertical instead of horizontal. Here is my XAML: <ListView DockPanel.Dock="Left" Height="352" Name="listView1" Width="132" ItemsSource="{Binding ElementName=RulesTab, Path=Name}" IsSynchronizedWithCurrentItem="True" FlowDirection="LeftToRight" HorizontalAlignment="Left" HorizontalContentAlignment="Left" DataContext="{Binding}"> Any pointers would be greatly appreciated as I'd like to be able to see a list of all the tabs open and then double click on one to bring the tab into focus.   Hy, I have two options to choose from: Client side: pro: image manipulations occurs on the client side, so no load on the server cons: more uploaded data Server side: pro: less uploaded data cons: image manipulations occurs on the server side, so there are some load and will be queried... For example, when you upload an image, you will get 4 images: a large image, medium, thumb1, thumb2, so in the case of the client side will be needed to upload the 4 optimized images. For the server side, will be only uploaded 1 optimized image and then manipulated. What is better and less consuming way?

  i am looking for a project planning tool that include features like a organizer, todo list, target * deadlines of projects. since i am a developer, it will be good to have a tool that can also do modelling like UML/ERD etc. i am also looking for something that can do note taking. something like a blog with code snipplets - so with syntax highlighting. OneNote etc all does not have code highlighting - the best i can do is use an online syntax highlighter to generate HTML then paste in which is slow. of course its good to have a free/open source tool that has all the features i listed. but its fine to know what paid options are there
