• Software for categorization with simple GUI

  Is there a simple software that would let me categorize, tag and search items that I input in it? It would be like a regular database but with a simplified GUI. I would add items with meaningful description and then categorize them and add tags. Then I would like to search (preferably real-time i.e. the search is showing results as I am typing) based on the item name/description, category or tag. The other option would obviously be that I just click the category or tag and it lists all the relevant results. List of categories and tags would also be a nice touch. Software is needed for Windows 7 or 8 or it can even be a Web app.

• Tar dereference only 1 level

  I use the following pseudo-script to create a TAR of my installed software mkdir tmp ln -s /path/to/app1/bin tmp/app1 ln -s /and/path/going/to/the-app-2 tmp/app2 tar -c --dereference -f apps.tar tmp I need the --dereference option here to follow the links I just made in tmp. The reason I make the links in the first place is to store the directories with a different name in the archive than they have on the filesystem. Until now it has worked fine. However, I now have the situation that /path/to/app1 also contains links, and those I don't want to follow. Is this possible with some changes to the tar command? Or do I need to completely switch around the way I build the archive?

  I've been trying to use yum now, but for some reason, not even the search work anymore. I even tried putting packages I already downloaded in the search criteria and is the same. • Only one user can connect to Ubuntu samba server

  I setup a samba server on 12.04 LTS, and it works great for one user but not the others. I am trying to map a network drive from a windows 7 laptop. I can successfully authenticate with one user, but the other two both get "Access is denied" errors. Here is my smb.conf file. I changed all the users so they are all members of the same groups (all three users are admins anyway). I only ever have one user connected at a time.   I'm running IIS 7.5 on Windows 7 Ultimate. I've installed PHP Version 5.2.14 using Microsoft Web Platform Installer. I've created a virtual directory and a file with which I can browse it and it returns all the PHP information just fine. I'm trying to install MantisBT, and when I copy all the file to my virtual directory and browse index.php I receive the following error detail: Error Summary HTTP Error 500.0 - Internal Server Error The page cannot be displayed because an internal server error has occurred. • Searching Netapp Network Share in Windows 7

  Windows 7 famously does not do what its predecessor, Windows XP, did very well, index and search network drives! Sometimes, the logic of MS isd absolutely baffling. That siad, I am trying to find some solution to the issue, which is made more complicated by the fact that we are using a Netapp FAS 2020 as a CIFS fileserver. I know some of the solutions to the Windows 7 search index issue revolve around having a Search Service installed on a Windows 2008 server and then adding that server sahre to the library on the Windows 7 workstation. Is it possible to accomplish this in any way with a CIFS share on a Netapp filer?

  I have a signup page on a subdomain like: https://signup.mysite.com It should only be accessible via HTTPS but I'm worried people might somehow stumble upon it via HTTP and get a 404. • 32bit ODBC Postgres driver on Windows 2008 R2 x64

  I'm trying to install the Postgres ODBC 32bit driver on a Windows 2008 R2 64bit machine. After installing it, with no errors, I go to the ODBC panel, the 32bit version under the /syswow64 folder and try to add the driver, select the Postgres driver from the list but I get an error 126, saying he can't find the driver at the specified path. The problem is that the path he shows me, is the exact path the driver is in, I double checked on the registery (on the HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\ODBC\ODBCINST.INI\ location) and it's fine there too. A couple more people on technet have the same issue too. Did anyone ever run into this? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. edit: the driver works fine on my win7 x64 test machine, this behaviour only happens on the server.

  My laptop is supposed to have 6 GB ram but it only detects 2 GB of it, so I don't know what to do. I searched the web for answer and what i get that there's 2 possible problem: 1- That 4 GB ram card is broken and not working 2- or the 2 ram card have a different path so the windows chose the path of the smaller ram card which would be the 2 GB ram I don't know what is the path in first place so I really don't know what to do. How would I troubleshoot, and work out why the 4 GB stick is not being detected?   Everytime I want to be able to run something that requires me to be a sudoer too many times, I need to google for the formatting of /etc/sudoers to remind me again what exactly is the proper way to write it. Now I see different writing styles in my sudoers file, which is the consequence of different google results over the months. I've also noticed that the second example (below) seems to work in XFCE, but not in Cinnamon (Gnome 3). This could be totally unrelated, but nontheless I'd like to know once and for all, what is the correct grammar of the sudoer line, and what is the difference between the given examples? redsandro ALL=NOPASSWD:/path/to/command redsandro ALL=(ALL) NOPASSWD:/path/to/command redsandro ALL=(ALL:ALL) NOPASSWD:/path/to/command Also, what are all the ALL's for? • Can I use a 302 redirect to serve up static content from an URL with escaped_fragment?

  We would like to serve up SEO-friendly Ajax-driven content. We are following this documentation. Has anyone ever tried to write a 302 redirect into the .htaccess file, that takes the ?_escaped_fragment= string and send that to a static page?, for example /snapshot/yourfilename/. How will Google react to this? I've gone through the documentation and it's not very clear. The below quote is from Google's documentation this is what I find. I'm not sure if they are saying that you can redirect the _escaped_fragment_ URL to a different static page, or if this is to redirect the hashtag URL to static content? Thoughts? From Google's site: Question: Can I use redirects to point the crawler at my static content? Redirects are okay to use, as long as they eventually get you to a page that's equivalent to what the user would see on the #! version of the page. This may be more convenient for some webmasters than serving up the content directly. • How to disable Spotlight content indexing in Mac OS

  From Windows experience, I could always elect Live search to only index file names not their content. Is this something that can be done with Spotlight on a Mac? It used to index absolutely everything, for instance it would return a bunch of video files for any obscure character combination typed into the search field. Right now I've disabled Spotlight entirely as per this answer, but it seems to have disabled searching altogether. For instance, Finder is yet to locate any .pdf files in a small directory as I'm typing this question (unlike windows search which would still be able to work even with indexing disabled) Alternatively, if there is any way (including a trusted third-party app) that will index file names and metadata e.g. ID3 tags that would likely be the preferred option.

• IIS and PHP restrict IO permissions

  I have php installed trough a fastCGI module. Is there a way to restrict the module (php.exe) read / write permissions to only the directory (+ subdirs) of the IIS site that is calling it? I need this to prevent one IIS PHP site from having access to files outside its own directory. How to do this? Is there a setting in php.ini or in the IIS configuration? I believe such a feature could exist, because when a file on the server is requested the root path of the site is also known, all it would take is that IIS passes this path to the php module, and the php module should on its end allow only IO operations within this path. PS: I know it is possible to achieve this by using a different windows account for each website, this is not an option.

• SharePoint (2010) - Can't delete Service Application

  The search service application in our farm went bonkers complaining that it couldn't connect to itself. After multiple people fiddling to try and fix it we've ended up with two search application. The new one, which is working perfectly, and the original one which is very unhappy. I've tried deleting the original Search App in Central Admin but it just won't go - it sits on the screen saying "Processing" but it never completes regardless of how long it is left. There's lot's happening in the logs but I can't really decipher exactly why this isn't working. Things are working fine within the farm but I'd ideally like to clean up this old application if possible. Are there any other options like deleting it with stsadm? I've had a dig but can't seem to find the commands to enumerate the service applications and then delete the correct one.

  I installed Visual Studio 2012 yesterday and during the install my path somehow got screwed up1. Since then, the icons for applications that are part of Windows are the default "unknown" icon, but other icons are fine. The applications that the shortcuts link to launch fine when the icons are clicked on. Taskbar: Start Menu: I have fixed my path, but the icons still show incorrectly. Any ideas on how to flush what appears to be a set of cached icons? 1 Something took a path of A;B;C;D; and turned it into A;B;C;D;A;B;C;D;E;F; - duplicating a large part of it to that point that no more characters were available to type in the edit box in system properties. This had the side-effect of Windows reporting that it couldn't find %windir%.

  I'm executing a command like the following to several different systems: $ rsync -a -v [email protected]:'/path/to/first/*.log path/to/second.txt' /dest/folder/0007/. Sometimes *.log does not exist, and that's OK, but rsync generates the following error: receiving file list ... rsync: link_stat "/path/to/first/*.log" failed: No such file or directory (2) done Is there any way to suppress that? The only way I can think of is to use include and exclude filters, which just seem a PITA to me. Thanks!

• Content light website and Google - Tell google it's a listings site (as opposed shop, reviews or restaurants)

  I have a listings style website. Due to the nature of this (listings) the site is content light. Each page is typically less that 50 words but there are many pages. The site in question has had a ton of media coverage and so has some great inbound links from places like Wired, Fast Company, Canada Broadcasting Corporation and many many other bloggers, media websites and recycle related niche authors (It's a recycling site). But Google really ignores it. Traffic from search is very very low - less than 5% of all traffic. I know that using markup you can tell Google whether your site is a restaurant, article, review, shop, local business and a few other categories (https://www.google.com/webmasters/markup-helper/u/0/). Is there a way to tell Google that my site is a listings site? I suspect, but do not know for sure, that part of the problem is that Google simply does not know what my site is? It's a crowdmap where people post curbalerts. The information is useful to people but it is presented in a short, concise way - a pin on a map, a picture and a short description. Adding anything further is not necessary for the site's intended purpose. 1st question - how best to tell the search engines what y site is - listings and not some spammy website? • How do I configure PuTTy so the tilde (~) is selected with the rest of the filepath?

  When I double-click a filepath in my PuTTy console the entire path is selected, provided the path contains no spaces or certain characters like "%" or ";". Unfortunately, PuTTy also considers "~" to be one of those certain characters. Since I use paths starting with ~/... and ~user/... a lot, I like the behavior I get with mintty in cygwin much better as it selects the ~ with the rest of the path (which improves my efficiency). Is there a way to get the same behavior in PuTTy?

• Extract duplicity difftar files manually

  I have a duplicity backup which i am not able to recover with duplicity. By calling duplicity file:///path/to/backups /path/to/dir, it returns "Local and Remote metadata are syncronized, no sync needed." but the /path/to/dir is empty. I decrypted all backup volumes and I'm able to view and extract the files from the different difftar files. My only problem is that there are files partitioned and saved in folders named after the files. Can anyone give me a simple script or at least a hint how to untar these difftar files so i get the actual files instead of the partitioned ones?

• Can't remove software - Installed in NULL

  I've installed software to our administration machine. The problem is that i cannot start the software or uninstall it, as it is not in any directory on the machine. I tried to install it at /pack/CST/... but it is not there and a locate on CST or cst returns nothing. The software is installed from a DVD and not a repository. I've tried to reboot the machine, as i thought i might had something to do with the software being loaded in some sort of tmpfs but that didn't help. I've looked through the entire /etc to check for any relations to the software, but unsuccessfully. I'm out of ideas, to what can cause this problem, anyone got any ideas?? EDIT: I downloaded the iso wich i mounted with: sudo mount -o loop /path/to/iso.iso /path/to/mountpoint sudo /path/to/mountpoint/install.sh Ran the install GUI via an X-session. I choose to install the software in /pack/CST/... but when it exited it said that the software had been installed to /tmp/... There was nothing in tmp, so i decided to reboot the machine and did a full find to see if there was anything left of the software, removed what looked like it could be related. It had placed a script in all the /etc/rs* folder which I removed with: sudo update-rc.d -f scriptname -r I rebooted the machine again, just to be sure. When i run the installer again, it tells me that the software is installed in NULL and i have to remove before installing it. /pack/ is a mountpoint for /q/system/pack What i expected was that the software would be installed in /pack/CST, but it seems to be lock in the system, but I am unable to locate where.

  I have a Debian as a member of our AD (which is a 2k3). I want to share 2 folders from our Debian. 1 with full access for everyone, the second only readable by group "ADM", and "PROD".
