  • SQL Server Backup modes, and a huge log file

    - by Matt Dawdy
Okay, I'm not a server administrator, a network guy, or a DBA. I'm merely a programmer helping out a small company. They have IT guy who isn't MS centric (most stuff is on Mac) and he and I are trying to figure out a solution here. We've got 1 main database. We run nightly full backups. I know they are full backups because I can take the latest file, or any of the daily backups, and go to a completely new machine and "restore" the backup to an empty database and our app runs perfectly fine off of this backup. The backups have grown from 60 MB to 250MB over 4 months. When running, then log file is 1.7 GB, and the data file is only 200-300 MB. Yes, recovery model is set to full. So, my question, after all of that, if we are keeping daily backups, and we don't have the need / aren't smart enough to roll the DB back to a certain time, if I change the recovery mode to simple, am I really losing anything? And, if I do change it to simple, will it completely dump the log file or at least reduce it way the hell down? And, will that make our database run faster? I know that it'll make my life easier when I copy a relatively recent backup to my local machine to do development and testing...

  • Error when starting .Net-Application from ThinApp-Application

    - by user50209
one of our customers uses SAP through VMWare ThinApp. In SAP there is a button that launches an .Net application from a server. When starting the .Net-application directly, there is no error. If the user tries to start the application by clicking the button in the ThinApp-Application, it displays the following errors: Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library R6034 An application has made an attempt to load the C runtime library incorrectly. Please contact the application's support team for more information. After clicking "OK" it displays: Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Runtime Error! R6030 - CRT not initialized So, does the customer have to install some components into his ThinApp (if yes, which?) to get things working? Regards, inno ----- [EDIT] ----- @Sean: It's installed the following way: The .exe of the .Net-Application is on a mapped drive on a server. All clients have the requirements installed (.Net-framework for example) and start the .exe from the mapped drive. The ThinApp-Application tries to start this application and throws the mentioned exceptions. AFAIK there are no entry points for this application configured. What I should also mention is: The .Net-Application crashes during execution. That means, we have a debug mode implemented that shows what the application is doing. The application shows what it's doing and after some steps it crashes. The interesting point is: It's a .Net-application, not a C++ Application.

  • Wget save cookies not working

    - by TrymBeast
I've been trying to login in the pyload through the web api, but wget is not saving the cookies and I don't understand why. I'm using the following command: wget --delete-after --keep-session-cookies --save-cookies=my_cookies.txt --post-data="username=USERNAME&password=PASSWORD" http://localhost:8000/api/login But the content of my_cookies.txt is: # HTTP cookie file. # Generated by Wget on 2012-06-23 22:31:33. # Edit at your own risk. When I run the same command but in debug mode I get the following output that includes the set cookie in the header response: DEBUG output created by Wget 1.10.2 (Red Hat modified) on linux-gnueabi. --22:31:11-- http://localhost:8000/api/login Resolving localhost... 127.0.0.1 Caching localhost => 127.0.0.1 Connecting to localhost|127.0.0.1|:8000... connected. • Enabling hardware acceleration and Xinerama for multi-monitor/multi-GPU in Linux

    - by mynameiscoffey
My current setup is three monitors connected as follows (monitors listed from left to right): GPU0 (nVidia GTX 280): - Dell 2405FPW (1920x1200) - Dell U2410 (1920x1200) GPU1 (nVidia 210): - Dell 2405FPW (1920x1200) Works like a charm in Windows 7, not so much in Linux. I seem to only have three real options: Run all three monitors as a seperate X screen, I get hardware acceleration but as they are all independent X sessions I cannot move windows between them and can only have firefox open on one at any given time. Run the two on GPU0 in TwinView mode and have GPU1 as a seperate X screen. Same limitation as 1 but at least two monitors work together ok. I did have an issue where occasionally Linux saw both monitors on GPU0 as a single large monitor however. Enable Xinerama and have everything work as I want it to but hardware acceleration is gone and the display is Windows 95 style choppy. My ideal solution would be to have all screens working as they do under Xinerama without the limitation of having hardware acceleration disabled. I don't even care if that means rendering all three on GPU0 and somehow farming out the display of the third monitor to GPU1, whatever works. My question is this: is there any way to accomplish this? I don't feel like my use case is so out there that there shouldn't be at least some form of support (beyond the three limited options presented above), or is my best option going to be to just suck it up and pick up a better card to replace both that can handle three outputs by itself?

  • IIS 6 302, 401 Error

    - by lvandiest
I'm having some problems accessing an ASP.NET website hosted on an internal iis 6 server that I am maintaining. Some users can get to the site, others (including myself can't). The app has Windows Authentication mode set in the web.config file, and Integrated Windows Authentication checked in the Website properties. Anonymous access is not checked. In the IIS logs, I see 2 lines when I make a request for the site's default page (Default.aspx). The first is a 401.2 error, and the 2nd is a 302.0 error. I've tried switching around as many security settings as I can think of, but had no luck yet. Can someone please help? I'm mainly a programmer, but have done a little IIS administration, so it is probably something quite simple I am missing. -- here are the log entries for my request to Default.aspx 2011-01-11 21:17:35 10.100.1.6 GET /MonthEndInventory/Default.aspx - 80 - 10.100.1.111 Mozilla/4.0+(compatible;+MSIE+7.0;+Windows+NT+6.1;+Trident/4.0;+SLCC2;+.NET+CLR+2.0.50727;+.NET+CLR+3.5.30729;+.NET+CLR+3.0.30729;+Media+Center+PC+6.0;+OfficeLiveConnector.1.4;+OfficeLivePatch.1.3;+.NET+CLR+1.1.4322;+Tablet+PC+2.0;+.NET4.0C;+.NET4.0E;+InfoPath.3;+MS-RTC+LM+8) 401 2 2148074254 2011-01-11 21:17:35 10.100.1.6 GET /MonthEndInventory/Default.aspx - 80 DOMAIN\myuserid 10.100.1.111 Mozilla/4.0+(compatible;+MSIE+7.0;+Windows+NT+6.1;+Trident/4.0;+SLCC2;+.NET+CLR+2.0.50727;+.NET+CLR+3.5.30729;+.NET+CLR+3.0.30729;+Media+Center+PC+6.0;+OfficeLiveConnector.1.4;+OfficeLivePatch.1.3;+.NET+CLR+1.1.4322;+Tablet+PC+2.0;+.NET4.0C;+.NET4.0E;+InfoPath.3;+MS-RTC+LM+8) 302 0 0

  • Black Screen on Logon (windows 7 home premium)

    - by Blacknight334
i have been having some trouble with a dell Xps 15 laptop that i recently purchased. it is under a month old, and a problem has occurred, upon logging on just after start up, the computer will just sit on a black log on screen (with the mouse still visible and active) for a few minutes. it is extremely annoying, especially when im in a rush. the laptop is under a month old. So far, i have tried to update the drivers, all windows update, and still, nothing. also, it doesnt seem to do it when i log into safe mode, or if it does, it will do it for less than 10 seconds, then load the desktop (in normal boot, it usually takes a few minutes). i have also run a number of the inbuilt diagnostics, but found no errors. i want to avoid having to do a system restore for as long as i can. does anyone know anything that can help? (the laptop is running a 500gb SSD, 2gb Nvidia 640m, 8gb ram, 3rd gen i7 quad core with 8 threads) thanks.

  • How to fix Quicktime video color problems on nVidia chipset and Windows XP?

    - by Matthew Glidden
My laptop frequently plays video as if in very low-color mode. Though the sound remains clear, it looks terrible, showing only a few shades of red, blue, or yellow. (It's even worse than 8-bit color.) The problem doesn't happen consistently, so I'm looking for troubleshooting advice or known solutions. I use a Dell Latitude D620 laptop with Windows XP, on-board nVidia video chipset, Quicktime, and multiple monitors (laptop screen + VGA-connected LCD). Color problems happen in each application I tried, iTunes, a browser, and the Quicktime standalone player. It doesn't happen right after reboot, so could be from a sleep-wake cycle, or at least being on for an extended period. Google results suggest reinstalling nVidia drivers, which I've done several times with no change. I have found 2 workarounds. Reboot, sacrificing significant time and disrupting work In nVidia control panel, change color to 16-bit, and then back to 32-bit This happens with all video playback, so it's definitely not one corrupt file. I use workaround #2 consistently, but would love a longer-term solution.

  • Tcpreplaying using VMware

    - by Methos
This is more like a testbed setup question. I want to use VMware to debug some networking code in the linux kernel in the VM. My VM has two network interfaces. What I want to do is replay the capture file in the host and receive the packets in the VM. My problem is I do not see replayed packets in the VM. I am running VMware and tcpreplay on the host as sudo. Hence I think there should not be any problem access devices files. I am running VMware workstation 7.0 a. I first began with Custom networking as that provides option of creating your own virtual network name. I wrote /dev/vmnet3 and /dev/vmnet4 for the two interfaces respectively. However, after booting the guest, I did not see any of these interfaces or devices files (in /dev) created on the host. b. Then I tried 'Host Only', but that does not show what bridge/device file is associated with the interface. c. Finally I tried bridged networking mode. I see vmnet1, vmnet8 and vboxnet0 on the host. I have tcpreplayed the capture file on each of these interfaces, for all the above three cases. I tried to capture packets in the VM using "tcpdump -i any". However, I do not see any packets. Any ideas/pointers?

  • ESXi Guests will not boot on IBM x3550 M3

    - by Adrian
I have a problem with Guests not booting under VMWare ESXi 5.0 on my IBM x3550M3 server. VM Host Server: IBM x3550 M3 7944AC1 server w/ 2x Intel Xeon E5607 2.27Ghz CPUs ESXi 5.0.0 Build 623860, built for IBM Hardware downloaded from IBM Storage: 2x500GB SAS local storage 8GB RAM Vt is verified to be ENABLED Server Health Status: Normal The ESXi host boots just fine. The Client connects just fine. Guests can be configured but do not successfully boot. The initial guest memory consumption jumps up to 560MB and drops down to 40MB after a few seconds. Initial CPU usage is 1 full CPU (3000Ghz per the chart) and immediately drops downm to 29Mhz. Guests do not display any output in the Console tab but show a state of 'Powered On'. VMs are listed as Version 7 and the behavior is duplicated across all availabled Guest OS flavors. Problem also duplicated when server is booted up in Legacy Only mode. Logs do not contain anything particularly suspucious. Edit: No firewalls, routers, or VLANs in between the client and server. Edit 2: We have tried to Boot Guest into BIOS screen at Next Boot checkbox in the Guest Setting. Was not successful. Edit 3: 500GB datastore with 1 40GB VM on it. Plenty of space.

  • Why does notepad crash on desktop files in the save-as dialog?

    - by deepc
Here's a puzzling problem - maybe somebody has an idea. Right now I am out of ideas. On Win7 64bit, the following crashes Notepad: On Desktop, right click, select "New | Text Document". This creates "New Text Document.txt". Right click on that file, select "Edit". This opens notepad with the empty file. Select "File | Save as": Notepad crashes and Win7 reports that "Notepad has stopped working". Now, move the file to c:\temp and repeat steps 2 and 3: no crash this time and the save-as dialog appears normally. I can create similar steps for the "open" dialog. Things I have tried: Safe mode - does not work, same problem Create a new user and try again logged in as that user - no crash Name file differently, or create elsewhere and then move to desktop - same problem Use Wordpad instead - same problem Review shell extensions with ShellExView - nothing extraordinary here Stare at the event log entries for each of the crashes. Does not enlighten me. At time of crash look at the process explorer stack view. Hangs at a function "TaskDialog". sfc.exe /scannow repaired some files but the problem persists. This is how the event log entries look like: Log Name: Application Source: Application Error Date: 14.12.2010 00:33:48 Event ID: 1000 Task Category: (100) Level: Error Keywords: Classic User: N/A Description: Faulting application name: NOTEPAD.EXE, version: 6.1.7600.16385, time stamp: 0x4a5bc9b3 Faulting module name: COMCTL32.dll, version: 6.10.7600.16661, time stamp: 0x4c6f6e4b Exception code: 0xc000041d Fault offset: 0x00000000000db770 Faulting process id: 0x198 Faulting application start time: 0x01cb9b1e140ab92a Faulting application path: C:\Windows\system32\NOTEPAD.EXE Faulting module path: C:\Windows\WinSxS\amd64_microsoft.windows.common-controls_6595b64144ccf1df_6.0.7600.16661_none_fa62ad231704eab7\COMCTL32.dll What else should I try, short of dumping my user and starting over with a new profile? Joomla isn’t in debug mode, and I am sure that I’m editing the correct copy of php.ini because other changes I make to it take effect. Any ideas why I am getting so many errors or how to stop it from exploding the log?

  • How to diagnose website performance/app pool recycling with Windows 2008/IIS7

    - by ilasno
Ok, so there are various symptoms here (clients and and our own employees complaining of intermittent slowdowns, getting 'kicked out' to login page or just having a save request not properly save the submitted data). The environment: Windows Server 2008 (Datacenter), Service Pack 2, 64-bit, 2x2.8 GHz processors, 7.5 GB RAM MS SQL Server 2008 (running on the same machine) IIS 7 There are ~10 websites running on the server, each in their own application pool - most of these pools are running in Integrated mode, 2 are in Classic, all are on .NET 2.0 and all run as ApplicationPoolIdentity. I'm trying to analyze, diagnose, and troubleshoot and am struggling with where to get more info about what could be happening. Here are some steps i have already taken: Set each application pool to recycle once per day, and removed any other automatic recycling Set a Virtual Memory Limit for each to 1024000KB (1GB) Enabled ALL 'Generate Recycle Event Log Entry' entries (Config Changes, Isapi Reported Unhealthy, Manual Recycle, Private Memory Limit Exceeded, Regular Time Interval, Request Limit Exceeded, Specific Time, Virtual Memory Limit Exceeded) I have seen the app pool processes recycle (in Task Manager) - a new one will start up, and then the first one dies off - and this has happened without the memory or time going over the settings. This is a fairly new server, and most of these came from Windows Server 2003/IIS6. Any 'next steps' for setting up information gathering, logging, diagnosing, etc. would be much appreciated! j

  • Being a more attractive job candidate - Certs XOR Degree

    - by Zephyr Pellerin
I'm currently working in an IT position, where I do helpdesk stuff, and predominantly security related issues/consulting (In the loosest sense of the term) In-House and for Service-Contract clients (as the only/acting CCSP [I guess I should say only person with Cisco experience] in my organization). I've professionally written Kernel Mode drivers for a gaming company. Among other things that I'm proud to put on a resume. I think of myself as very reasonably qualified as a System Administrator, With excellent Cisco experience, among other things I think would make a good addition to almost any IT staff in need of a new employee. However, Something has always tripped me up - Human Resources. Let me explain, I decided to skip the university route - I'm immensely glad that I did, The computer science graduates that I've met and work with rarely know much of anything about Computers (Until they gain some 'real' experience), Even when asked about Theoretical Computing fundamentals they can rattle something off about Turing Completeness but rarely do they understand the mathematical underpinnings. In short, I think instead of going to college, I'd rather pick up some real world experience. However, Apparently, Employers rarely think the same way. A quick perusal of jobs through the standard job search engine yields nothing short of a conspiracy to exclude anyone without 'A Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or Equivalent'. Interviews I've had in the past have almost always been entangled with - 1. My Age (Which I can't really change) and 2. Lack of Degree. Employers frequently disregard the CCNA/CCSP, The experience I've gained through internships, My extensive experience in x86 assembly and C, among so many other things I like to think are valuable to employers - In lieu of the fact that I don't have a piece of paper. So, AS AN EMPLOYER - Is it even worth working on my CCIE? Or should I pad my resume with certifications that are easier to acquire (Like CISSP, MSCE, Network+, etc.). Or should I ditch the whole idea and head back to get a Mathematics or CS degree?

  • Libvirt / QEmu Machine Fails and Refuses Restart Because of Memory Allocation Errors

I tried to debug the problem and i find that ssh is reading wrong file, take a look at the output: [damiano@Damiano-PC .ssh]$ ssh -v root@vps1 OpenSSH_5.8p2, OpenSSL 1.0.0g-fips 18 Jan 2012 debug1: Reading configuration data /etc/ssh/ssh_config debug1: Applying options for vps1 debug1: Applying options for * debug1: Connecting to 111.111.111.111 [111.111.111.111] port 2000. debug1: Connection established. debug1: identity file /home/damiano/.ssh/id_rsa type -1 debug1: identity file /home/damiano/.ssh/id_rsa-cert type -1 debug1: identity file /home/damiano/.ssh/id_dsa type -1 debug1: identity file /home/damiano/.ssh/id_dsa-cert type -1 debug1: Remote protocol version 2.0, remote software version OpenSSH_5.8p1 Debian-7ubuntu1 debug1: match: OpenSSH_5.8p1 Debian-7ubuntu1 pat OpenSSH* debug1: Enabling compatibility mode for protocol 2.0 debug1: Local version string SSH-2.0-OpenSSH_5.8 debug1: SSH2_MSG_KEXINIT sent debug1: SSH2_MSG_KEXINIT received debug1: kex: server->client aes128-ctr hmac-md5 none debug1: kex: client->server aes128-ctr hmac-md5 none debug1: SSH2_MSG_KEX_DH_GEX_REQUEST(1024<1024<8192) sent debug1: expecting SSH2_MSG_KEX_DH_GEX_GROUP debug1: SSH2_MSG_KEX_DH_GEX_INIT sent debug1: expecting SSH2_MSG_KEX_DH_GEX_REPLY debug1: Server host key: RSA 74:8f:87:fe:b8:25:85:02:d4:b6:5e:03:08:d0:9f:4e debug1: Host '[111.111.111.111]:2000' is known and matches the RSA host key. debug1: Found key in /home/damiano/.ssh/known_hosts:1 debug1: ssh_rsa_verify: signature correct debug1: SSH2_MSG_NEWKEYS sent debug1: expecting SSH2_MSG_NEWKEYS debug1: SSH2_MSG_NEWKEYS received debug1: Roaming not allowed by server debug1: SSH2_MSG_SERVICE_REQUEST sent debug1: SSH2_MSG_SERVICE_ACCEPT received debug1: Authentications that can continue: publickey debug1: Next authentication method: publickey debug1: Trying private key: /home/damiano/.ssh/id_rsa debug1: Trying private key: /home/damiano/.ssh/id_dsa debug1: No more authentication methods to try. as you can see ssh is trying to read: /home/damiano/.ssh/id_rsa but i don't have this file, i named it differently. How could I tell to SSH to use the correct private key file? Thanks!

  • How can you connect to a SQL Server not on your domain?

    - by scotty2012
I have a test machine that's not allowed on our domain because we are testing corporately unsupported applications (SQL 2008 and Server 2008). I want to use management studio to connect to the SQL2008 server but can't get it working. I have authentication set to mixed-mode, I've checked 'allow remote connections to this server', but when I try to access it, I get the error A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 53) Since it says the provider is Named Pipes, I enabled Named Pipes on the server, but still no dice. I've tried connecting to the system name, the IP, the system name\instance and IP\instance, all to no avail. Is what I'm trying to do not possible? Edit: Well, through some basic troubleshooting, I've found that I can't ping the server from my client computer, but I can ping the client computer from the server? They are both plugged into the same switch, and are sitting next to each other. The windows firewall on the server is turned on, is there some specific settings I need to enable? DAH! So it was the firewall blocking me. How can I enable the firewall and still connect?

  • Experiences in Upgrading from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010

    - by gWaldo
I'm currently running Exchange 2003 SP2 Cluster on a Server 2003 AD Forest (in native 2003 mode), and we beginning to plan the upgrade to Server 2008 AD and Exchange 2010. We have two main sites, one middle-sized office, and a couple of smaller sites which have DCs (which may be RODCs after the upgrade). Currently all of our Exchange cluster is in my main site, but we are considering using the new datastore paradigm for load-balance/failover at the other large site, but this is not set in stone. Right now we are in the information-gathering and planning phases. I am looking for input of any gotchas experienced while performing either upgrade, but especially the Exchange upgrade. Gotchas? What surprised you? What wasn't documented? What said one thing but was misleading? (Confusing either in content or severity.) What is great or horrible about the new system? What worked well? What worked poorly? If you were to do it over again...? (I know that this isn't so much a question that can be definitively answered, but I'm happy to reward insight and useful resources (not the Microsoft documentation, but Blogposts are welcome) with upvotes.) UPDATE A couple items of note: -We are not currently using OWA (currently only the admins), but it may become more of a consideration with iOS devices. -We do have a small number of Blackberries in the environment (< 10%). -In addition to the standard Exchange connectors, we have a third-party connector for Captaris RightFax integration.

Hi All, I just installed CentOS 5.4 on a rackspace cloud server and installed virtualmin which all seemed to go fine. • HAProxy is caching the forwarding?

    - by shadow_of__soul
i'm trying to set up a server structure for an application i'm building in Node.js with socket.io. My setup is: HAProxy frontend forward to -> apache2 as default backend (or nginx, is apache in this local test) -> node.js app if the url has socket.io in the request AND a domain name i have something like: global log 127.0.0.1 local0 log 127.0.0.1 local1 notice maxconn 4096 user haproxy group haproxy daemon defaults log global mode http maxconn 2000 contimeout 5000 clitimeout 50000 srvtimeout 50000 frontend all 0.0.0.0:80 timeout client 5000 default_backend www_backend acl is_soio url_dom(host) -i socket.io #if the request contains socket.io acl is_chat hdr_dom(host) -i chaturl #if the request comes from chaturl.com use_backend chat_backend if is_chat is_soio backend www_backend balance roundrobin option forwardfor # This sets X-Forwarded-For timeout server 5000 timeout connect 4000 server server1 localhost:6060 weight 1 maxconn 1024 check #forwards to apache2 backend chat_backend balance roundrobin option forwardfor # This sets X-Forwarded-For timeout queue 50000 timeout server 50000 timeout connect 50000 server server1 localhost:5558 weight 1 maxconn 1024 check #forward to node.js app The problem comes when i made a request to something like www.chaturl.com/index.html it load perfectly but fails to loads the socket.io files (www.chaturl.com/socket.io/socket.io.js) why it redirect to apache (and should redirect to the node.js app that serve the files). The weird thing is that if i access directly to the socket.io file, after refreshing a few times, it loads, so i suppose is "caching" the forwarding for the client when it makes the first request and reach the apache server. Any suggestion of how this can be solved? or what i can try or look about this?

  • HP G61 Laptop wont boot- display stays off, caps and num lock indicators blink repeatedly

    - by Benguy12
I had my HP G61 laptop running in sleep for a while. When I came back to it about a half-hour later, it was no longer in sleep mode - the power light and the Wi-Fi indicator light were on (I keep Wi-Fi off becuase I use a wired connection) - but nothing was showing on screen. In fact, the display wasn't even turned on. So I let it sit for about 10 minutes but nothing happened. I did a force shut down and rebooted. Instead of a normal boot, the display didnt turn on, the Wi-Fi indicator was off, and the Caps Lock and Num Lock lights just blinked repeatedly. On the external keyboard i use, none of the light indicators were blinking or even on. I tried force shut-down again 10 times, then unplugged all connections except for the power cable (my laptop battery dosent hold a charge for more than 2 minutes, so I always must have a wall connection) and tried to boot again but still nothing happened. I unplugged the battery and even then nothing happened. I also tried booting with the disk drive open, and then with it closed again. On the time it was closed, I was able to successfully boot into Windows, but recieved a "Windows did not shut-down sucessfully" notice. Does anybody know why this may have happened? My PC's specs: Windows 7 Home Premium, 64-bit 4GB of physical RAM, 8GB of vRAM (on a flash drive) AMD Vision x64 processor (don't know any other specs about it) ATI Radeon graphics card, 392 MB DVD-R/W lightscribe drive 2 External hard-disks (first one is 1.5TB, second one is 1TB) custom boot-screen and boot-annimation Standard BIOS apps running before sleep: firefox 10.4 itunes 10.6 adobe photoshop extended CS5.1 rockstar games social club (running in background) microsoft powerpoint 2010 professional edition google chrome I was NOT running Aero or any fancy themes - I was using the normal windows classic theme. I have a desktop icon manager application called Stardock Fences that was also running (it runs as a service/process).

  • How to configure IIS 7.5 to allow special chars in Url for ASP.NET 3.5?

    - by Sebastian P.R. Gingter
I'm trying to configure my IIS 7.5 to allow specials chars in the url for ASP.NET. This is important to support wide-spread legacy url's on a new system. Sample url: http://mydomain.com/FileWith%inTheName.html This would be encoded in the url and requested as http://mydomain.com/FileWith25%inTheName.html This simply works, when creating a new web in IIS 7.5, placing a file with the percentage sign in the file name in the web root and pointing the browser to it. This does not work, however, when the web site is an ASP.NET application. ASP.NET always returns a 400.0 - Bad Request error in the WindowsAuthentication module from the StaticFile handler, when pointing to that url. It however displays the requested url correctly and also resolves correctly to the correct physical file (the information from the field 'Physical Path' from the Server error page points to the physically available file). There are hints on how to enable this, so I followed the instructions on these websites step by step: http://dirk.net/2008/06/09/ampersand-the-request-url-in-iis7/ http://adorr.net/2010/01/configure-iis-to-accept-url-with-special-characters.html The second one actually sums up the information from the first post and adds some more information about x64 systems (we're running x64) and on an additional web.config change for this. I tried all that, and still can't get this running from an asp.net web application. And yes: I rebooted after applying the registry changes. So, what do I have to do in addition to the settings described in above posts, to support the legacy url's which contain percentage characters? Additional info: Application Pool mode is integrated. Push after some days. No idea anyone?

  • FTP not listing directory NcFTP PASV

I am attempting to setup Multicraft on my server, all is running smoothly however the FTP won't allow anyone to connect from a remote FTP client, where net2ftp will work smoothly from a remote location. I have included the transcript from my FTP client, Transmit below to give you an idea of what's going on. I have disabled iptables as well, and still no luck either way. • Monitor goes black for a few seconds

    - by privatehuff
I have a Hanns G 28" monitor, Model # HG281D It has its issues (viewing angle sucks) but has been functional and solid, great for desktop stuff. Worked without any sign of any problems for 6-12 months. However, now the monitor "goes black" for about 2-3 seconds, almost like when you click "detect display" It does not turn off (power light does not go amber) The computer is completely unaffected and the video mode never changes when the picture returns. The computer is fully responsive and will keep playing music or taking my keypresses during the time I can't see anything. (it just happened and I kept typing, etc) It happens on multiple computers across several operating systems. (I have an 8-port iogear KVM switch that has several computers connected) But, it seems to happen only on certain computers. I have a hackintosh that does it, a windows 7 PC that does not, a lenovo laptop that does not, and my old ubuntu 8.10 box did not do it, but my new mint 8 box does do it. I've check the connections and tried changing out the power cable and the vga cable. Sometimes it won't happen for hours (or days) and sometimes it happens several times per hour. It was happening many months ago, did not happen for months, and has now started happening again. Does this make any sense? What could it be?

  • Replication keeps popping up on SharePoint databases

    - by Ddono25
My typical discovery scenario: We receive an alert that the transaction log is growing quickly. We are in Simple Recovery so I go to check it out. Log is already sized to 100GB and is at 80% capacity. I run the "Whats using my log files" script from SQL Server Central and see that Replication is enabled on the database. We do not set up replication, and I don't think Replication can be done on SharePoint content db's as Replication is not supported (requires PK on all tables). This has been occurring on random servers (about 5 so far, all within the past three weeks) and it only occurs on Content Databases. sp_removedbreplication does not always work in removing the Replication either. We have found that we need to run the sp_removedbreplication, change all db owners to SA and reset Recovery Mode to Simple to completely eradicate any vestiges of this bug. How would Replication be enabling itself? We have never set up Replication on these servers. There is no evidence of any type of Replication other than the 'log_reuse_wait_desc' from the DMV query and log growth. Any help on this ghost would be appreciated!
