  • Using a MockContext inside a Java package not an Android Package.

    I have moved most of my Android code into a separate Java package. I want to run some JUnit4 tests however I can't seem to get a MockContext working. I have extended MockContext() but have not done anything with it yet as I don't know what need to be done.     Hi I have the definition for my manytomany relationship on one model but want to display the field on the form of my other model.     I have some immutable data structures that I would like to manage using reference counts, sharing them across threads on an SMP system. If so, what kind of memory barrier? Additional notes: The application must run on PowerPC and x86, so any processor-specific information is welcomed. I already know about the GCC atomic builtins. As for immutability, the refcount is the only field that changes over the duration of the object.

    Using Hibernate + annotations, I'm trying to do the following: Two entities, Entity1 and Entity2. Entity1 contains a simple generated value primary key. Entity2 primary key is composed by a simple generated value + the id of entity one (with a many to one relationship) Unfortunately, I can't make it work.     Our application sometimes uses a lot of memory, and this is expected. But when we test it under high load on Windows XP, we usually get the very annoying "Your system is running low on virtual memory" popup, and this prevents our automated, unattended, tests to run through... Is it possible to prevent this popup to appear, and just have the allocation fail? The app will handle it gracefully, and tests will go on... We are using Windows XP, but if a solution only exists on later versions, I'd be happy to know anyway.

  • ASP.NET web services leak memory when (de)serializing disposable objects?

    In the following two cases, if Customer is disposable (implementing IDisposable), I believe it will not be disposed by ASP.NET, potentially being the cause of a memory leak: [WebMethod] public Customer FetchCustomer(int id) { return new Customer(id); } [WebMethod] public void SaveCustomer(Customer value) { // save it } This flaw applies to any IDisposable object. So returning a DataSet from a ASP.NET web service, for example, will also result in a memory leak - the DataSet will not be disposed. In my case, Customer opened a database connection which was cleaned up in Dispose - except Dispose was never called resulting in loads of unclosed database connections. I realise there a whole bunch of bad practices being followed here (its only an example anyway), but the point is that ASP.NET - the (de)serializer - is responsible for disposing these objects, so why doesn't it? This is an issue I was aware of for a while, but never got to the bottom of. I'm hoping somebody can confirm what I have found, and perhaps explain if there is a way of dealing with it.

    I have two models/tables in my Rails application: discussions and comments. Each discussion has_many comments, and each comment belongs_to a discussion. My discussions table also includes a first_comment_id column and last_comment_id column for convenience and speed. I want to be able to call discussion.last_comment for the last comment model, but the following (in my discussion model) isn't working to make this happen: has_one :first_comment, :class_name => "Comment" has_one :last_comment, :class_name => "Comment" When I call discussion.last_comment, the following SQL is run: SELECT * FROM `comments` WHERE (`comments`.discussion_id = 1) LIMIT 1 It's using the discussions.id column to join against comments.discussion_id, when I want it to join discussions.last_comment_id against comments.id. Am I using the wrong type of association here? Thanks for your help!

    In the model, I have: public ObservableCollection<Item> Items { get; private set; } In the ViewModel, I have a corresponding list of ItemViewModels: public ObservableCollection<ItemViewModel> ItemViewModels ... In the XAML, I will bind (in this case a TreeView) to the ItemViewModels property. My question is, what goes in the "..." in the ViewModel shown above? I am hoping for a line or two of code to binds these two ObservableCollections (providing the type of the ViewModel to construct for each model object). However, what I'm fearing is necessary is a bunch of code to handle the Items.CollectionChanged event and manually updates the ItemViewModels list by constructing ViewModels as necessary. Thanks!   • What is the best solution to replace a new memory allocator in an existing code?

    During the last few days I've gained some information about memory allocators other than the standard malloc(). There are some implementations that seem to be much better than malloc() for applications with many threads. For example it seems that tcmalloc and ptmalloc have better performance. I have a C++ application that uses both malloc and new operators in many places. I thought replacing them with something like ptmalloc may improve its performance. But I wonder how does the new operator act when used in C++ application that runs on Linux? Does it use the standard behavior of malloc or something else? What is the best way to replace the new memory allocator with the old one in the code? Is there any way to override the behavior or new and malloc or do I need to replace all the calls to them one by one?

  • How to run a .class file in Windows 7 OS?

    Hi, This is probably a stupid question, but how do I run a class file on windows 7? I usually create my own .java files and then use a basic IDE (with JDK6) to compile it to a class and run it automatically. My professor gave a .class file that we are supposed to play with extensively but I have no idea how to to run it here. Note that I cannot run it by typing: java classname.class because it contains gui stuff especially buttons and such.     I have an action that looks like public ActionResult GetUsers(List<int> userIds) {//do stuff} The list of userIds can become quite long, so I want to use Json.Net to deserialize it. To do so I created an IModelBinder implementation, which works fine for other objects, but never gets called for a List. The IModelBind looks like this public class JsonBinder : System.Web.Mvc.IModelBinder { public object BindModel(System.Web.Mvc.ControllerContext controllerContext, System.Web.Mvc.ModelBindingContext bindingContext) { //Do model binding stuff using Json.Net } } And I register this model binder with this line ModelBinders.Binders.Add(typeof(List<int>), new JsonBinder()); However the JsonBinder is never called. Why is this? Should I be using a ValueProvider?

It counts where there are none, and it doesn't count when there are some. E.g.: it doesn't count the one below some living cells. It's a very odd behaviour, and it's been giving me a headache for 3 days now... maybe I'm missing something basic about variables?
