• A Scripting language for XNA

  I've written a game engine, which i want to integrate scripting into. However, i've looked at the available choices, which seem to be the following: Xnua Jint Managed Scripting The problems with those are (respectively): Built for XNA 1 -- there's an XNA 3.1 port but it's under the Apache license which i'm not sure is compatible with our goals (and it has a bit obtuse syntax) Appears to not properly use type-safe objects (e.g. ArrayList over generics) Is in beta, and only runs on XNA 3.0 So, to summarize my specific needs (in order of importance most to least): Needs to run on XNA 3.1 Needs to run on the XBox and Windows Should have a relatively simple API -- something closer to Jint's than Xnua's preferably uses Lua, C#, or similar languages Must be commercially sellable -- if some form of credit is needed, then that's fine. Are there any scripting solutions that meet my needs, or will i have to (eventually) roll my own?

• Cross Platform build

  I have an application in which we use a hand-made build system.The reason for this is portability, the application should be portable on Linux/Mac/Windows. There are some port-specific files that are not updated by the deafult build system. What I do now is update the files manually or have a script do this. However I am thinking of switching to cross platform build system like cmake or scons. Are their associated problems wrt portability? Will it pay in long run? and if so what should be my choice "cmake", "scons" or some other(if any?). Thanks,

• Computing orientation of a square and displaying an object with the same orientation

  Hi, I wrote an application which detects a square within an image. To give you a good understanding of how such an image containing such a square, in this case a marker, could look like: What I get, after the detection, are the coordinates of the four corners of my marker. Now I don't know how to display an object on my marker. The object should have the same rotation/angle/direction as the marker. Are there any papers on how to achieve that, any algorithms that I can use that proofed to be pretty solid/working? It doesn't need to be a working solution, it could be a simple description on how to achieve that or something similar. If you point me at a library or something, it should work under linux, windows is not needed but would be great in case I need to port the application at some point. I already looked at the ARToolkit but they you camera parameter files and more complex matrices while I only got the four corner points and a single image instead of a whole video / camera stream.

• Ruby server very slow outside localhost (teambox)

  I just installed TeamBox on my Ubuntu 9.10 server. I have it up and running on port 3000 using the provided server script. It's running extremely slow, up to 30 seconds per HTTP request when connecting from another computer. I used links to load up TeamBox from the shell and it took no time at all. I then setup an SSH tunnel and again it was working very fast. I run about 30 vhosts through apache on this server, as well as SAMBA etc and do not have any problems. How can I troubleshoot this problem?

• Building a Universal iPad App - Where is the device recognition code?

  I noticed that when I create a new project in XCode for a Universal iPad/iPhone application, the template comes with two separate App Delegate files, one for each device. I can't seem to locate the place in code where it tries to decide which app delegate to use. I have an existing iPhone project I'd like to port to iPad. My thinking was that if I went ahead and designed the iPad project, I could just import my iPhone classes and nibs, and then use the App Delegate and UIDevice to decide which MainWindow.xib to load. The process went like this: Create an iPad project coded as a split-view create brand new classes and nibs for the iPad import iPhone classes and nibs Change build/target settings in accordance with Universal Apps Use [[UIDevice currentDevice] model] in the AppDelegate to decide which MainWindow to load Will this work, or does the app just automatically know which device it's being deployed on? • CentOS Client - Unable to Establish iSCSI connection with multiple interfaces on the initiator

  So after upgrading to CentOS 6.2, I am seemingly no longer able to login into my iSCSI targets. I have multiple interfaces on different subnets on the system, and I first thought that it had to do with the fact that I may not be binding correct interfaces, which seems to be the case when looking at netstat, as this is clearly wrong: [root]? netstat -na|grep .90 tcp 0 1 10.10.100.60:42354 10.10.8.90:3260 SYN_SENT tcp 0 1 10.10.100.60:40777 10.10.9.90:3260 SYN_SENT I then went ahead and disabled all but one interface, and so as a result netstat appears to be correct, but the issue with login remains. I am positive that the target never sees a packet, because I see nothing by SYN_SENT. I know the problem is on my client, because the target is servicing multiple systems, none of which are CentOS 6.2. At this point I am pretty confident that some things changed between CentOS 6.0/6.1 and 6.2. So, if anyone have any thoughts, or ran into this, I would very much like to hear your thoughts. I went a few weeks back and grabbed a snapshot of this system from before upgrading to 6.2. I spun up a new system from the snapshot, and reconfigured interface info and host keys, as well as iSCSI initiator and iscsi interface info to match new MACs. Changed nothing else. Then, I attempted to connect to my targets, and no issues at all. I cannot say that this was unexpected. I then went ahead and compared sysctl settings from both systems and there were differences after the upgrade, but nothing seemingly relevant to iSCSI or IP that could contribute to this. I also noticed that by default now two sessions per connection were enabled after the upgrade, but I changed it back to 1 session in /etc/iscsi/iscsid.conf. On the problematic system we can see that source interface is seemingly wrong, but even when I disable the 10.10.100 interface, problems persist. So, while this may be relevant, I could not validate it for certain. Needless to say, further research is necessary. Something is clearly different between releases. It is quite obscure and I doubt this will happen to anyone else any time soon. It turns out that setting iface.iscsi_ifacename and iface.hwaddress in the interfaces configuration file is not legal. When one manually adds an iscsi target, such as below, all settings from the interface config file are copied into the node config file, that gets created by the below command. Result is parameters iface.iscsi_ifacename and iface.hwaddress together in the same config file. These parameters are seemingly mutually exclusive, which does not exactly make sense, or there is perhaps an oversight in the codepath. • Stream a continously growing file over tcp/ip

  Hello, I have a project I'm working on, where a piece of Hardware is producing output that is continuously being written into a textfile. What I need to do is to stream that file as it's being written over a simple tcp/ip connection. I'm currently trying to that through simple netcat, but netcat only sends the part of the file that is written at the time of execution. It doesn't continue to send the rest. Right now I have a server listening to netcat on port 9000 (simply for test-purposes): netcat -l 9000 And the send command is: netcat localhost 9000 < c:\OUTPUTFILE So in my understanding netcat should actually be streaming the file, but it simply stops once everything that existed at the beginning of the execution has been sent. It doesn't kill the connection, but simply stops sending new data. How do I get it to stream the data continuously? Thanks for any help!

• IE Mixed Content Warining when using https URLs and http:443 URLs?

  I'm getting the good ole' "This page contains both secure and nonsecure items." dialog in IE when connecting to an HTTPS site. No big deal... I've just got something coming in over a non-secure connection so that should be an easy fix, right? So I go into "View Web Page Privacy Policy..." to look to see where I've included an HTTP file, and this is what I see... https://blah/path/to/file.htm https://blah/path/to/file.js http://blah:443/path/to/file.css Um... ok... so... there is an HTTP only URL being requested, but it is going over port 443 ("https://blah/" is shorthand for "http://blah:443/") so... What is the deal with this!? IE 7.0.5730.13 can't possibly be THAT stupid, can it? Is there an IIS setting that needs to be tweaked?

  Hi, I am writing clients in Java that store the data on a database server. So far, the IP and Port of the server has to be specified in the client's settings manually. I have heard, that it is possible to automatically determine the IP of database servers via broadcast / multicast / UDP (I am not familiar with these concepts). Question: Is there a way to retrieve the IP adresses of all available database-servers in the local network? I am working with the h2 database system so far. Bye, Wolfgang

• Server 2008 Web Edition IIS6 SMTP conflict

  I'm using IIS6 Manager to setup the SMTP service on Windows Server 2008 Web Edition. Ignoring how mental this is, there seems to be a conflict (port 25?) which means that I cannot start and stop the Default SMTP server within IIS6. I can start and stop it with the services.msc snap in and this is reflected in state of the SMTP server in IIS6 manager. I'm worried that none of the settings I want to get at within IIS6 (logging, authentication etc..) are having any effect. None of these settings are available within IIS7 in Web Edition. Idiotic.

  Hello, I am coding a simple space empire management game in Visual C# 2008, which relies on connecting to a remote SQL server database to get/store data. I would like the user to be able to connect to a user-specified SQL server from the login screen(he specifies IP address, port, database name, ID, password and presses "connect" button). However, I found out that the Dataset connection string property is read only and cannot be changed. Is there any way to guide the wizard-generated DataSet to a user-specified server at run time? • Possible to register Selenium RC's with the Hudson Selenium Grid Hub w/o the RC's being slaves in th

  I am trying to get Hudson to run my ruby based selenium tests. I have installed the Selenium Grid plugin, but I don't want to have the RC's running as slaves in a Hudson cluster. The reason for this is I don't want to waste the next six years of my life trying to configure each of my projects in various Windows environments. Hudson currently pulls each project from Github and builds it just fine. With a regular Selenium Grid setup, I am able to edit the grid_configuration.yml file to represent the various environments I wish to tests against, then pass environment variables to the rake task that runs the test i.e. which browser/platfom to run on and the URL of the application under test -- usually a port on the hub machine running in a specific environment. In this way, the machines on which the RC's run don't need to know anything about the source code of my apps, they just need to have selenium-grid installed and have registered with the hub. Is there a way of elegantly emulating this with Hudson?

• Rush Hour - Solving the game

  Rush Hour if you're not familiar with it, the game consists of a collection of cars of varying sizes, set either horizontally or vertically, on a NxM grid that has a single exit. Each car can move forward/backward in the directions it's set in, as long as another car is not blocking it. You can never change the direction of a car. There is one special car, usually it's the red one. It's set in the same row that the exit is in, and the objective of the game is to find a series of moves (a move - moving a car N steps back or forward) that will allow the red car to drive out of the maze. I've been trying to think how to solve this problem computationally, and I can really not think of any good solution. I came up with a few: Backtracking. This is pretty simple - Recursion and some more recursion until you find the answer. However, each car can be moved a few different ways, and in each game state a few cars can be moved, and the resulting game tree will be HUGE. Some sort of constraint algorithm that will take into account what needs to be moved, and work recursively somehow. This is a very rough idea, but it is an idea. Graphs? Model the game states as a graph and apply some sort of variation on a coloring algorithm, to resolve dependencies? Again, this is a very rough idea. A friend suggested genetic algorithms. This is sort of possible but not easily. I can't think of a good way to make an evaluation function, and without that we've got nothing. So the question is - How to create a program that takes a grid and the vehicle layout, and outputs a series of steps needed to get the red car out? Sub-issues: Finding some solution. Finding an optimal solution (minimal number of moves) Evaluating how good a current state is Example: How can you move the cars in this setting, so that the red car can "exit" the maze through the exit on the right?

  Friend gave me their OLD handycam and a bunch of tapes asking me to put them on a DVD. The model is Sony DCR-TVR103 and it records onto Hi8 Digital tapes. It has a firewire port also. I am trying to use import function in iMovie on OS X 10.6. Every import though the video is super fast, like playing in fast forward. Ever seen anything like this? How can I import this video? • Correct way to get absolute url in django

  A problem that I stumbled upon recently, and, even though I solved it, I would like to hear your opinion of what correct/simple/adopted solution would be. I'm developing website using Django + python. When I run it on local machine with "python manage.py runserver", local address is http://127.0.0.1:8000/ by default. However, on production server my app has other url, with path - like "http://server.name/myproj/" I need to generate and use permanent urls. If I'm using {% url view params %}, I'm getting paths that are relative to / , since my urls.py contains this urlpatterns = patterns('', (r'^(\d+)?$', 'myproj.myapp.views.index'), (r'^img/(.*)$', 'django.views.static.serve', {'document_root': settings.MEDIA_ROOT + '/img' }), (r'^css/(.*)$', 'django.views.static.serve', {'document_root': settings.MEDIA_ROOT + '/css' }), ) So far, I see 2 solutions: modify urls.py, include '/myproj/' in case of production run use request.build_absolute_uri() for creating link in views.py or pass some variable with 'hostname:port/path' in templates Are there prettier ways to deal with this problem?   Hi guys, I'm looking for a program that can read the weight on a USB scale, namely the Pelouze 10lb USB Portable Scale. I thought it would have a virtual COM port driver but instead, it uses HID drivers. I've been searching for a whole month for a program that can help me transfer the reading of the scale to Microsoft Excel. Can someone help me out or point me in the right direction?   Have Ubuntu 11.10 with vsftpd installed and working. Can not get virtual users setup at all? Vsftpd will allow main Ubuntu owner account to login, but nothing else? I've followed several tutorials on adding virtual users, but nothing works? I just need to add 2 virtual users and have them be able to upload files to vsftpd Ubuntu computer from other computers on my Lan network. • ubuntu 10.04 logs itself out overnight

  Every night when I leave work, I lock the screen via ubuntu's "power" button in the top right hand panel. When I come to work in the morning, I'm greeted with the log-in screen. • Unable to add a trac repository to mylyn in eclipse

  Trac is running on a server on port 8002. With tunneling, I am able to access Trac on my machine using localhost:8002. I am able to login, create tickets using my browser. I want to integrate this trac project with Mylyn in Eclipse. I have installed mylyn with the Trac connector. I try adding task repositories in eclipse. I am able to successfully validate the settings, however, I am not able to add it as a task repository. Any help appreciated.

• Does it make sense to have more than one UDP Datagram socket on standby? Are "simultaneous" packets

  I'm coding a networking application on Android. I'm thinking of having a single UDP port and Datagram socket that receives all the datagrams that are sent to it and then have different processing queues for these messages. I'm doubting if I should have a second or third UDP socket on standby. Some messages will be very short (100bytes or so), but others will have to transfer files. My concern is, will the Android kernel drop the small messages if it's too busy handling the bigger ones? Update "The latter function calls sock_queue_rcv_skb() (in sock.h), which queues the UDP packet on the socket's receive buffer. If no more space is left on the buffer, the packet is discarded. Filtering also is performed by this function, which calls sk_filter() just like TCP did. Finally, data_ready() is called, and UDP packet reception is completed."
