  • Usability of an endless/infinite scroll

    - by Anton Gogolev
What are pros and cons of this technique (see Softfolio for an example). Two things I personally thought of are as follows: Impossible to tell someone where an item of interest is located (like, you probably won't say "324-th row, second column") Broken navigation when you return back to an infinitely scrolled page. What else can you think of? And what do you personally think of this approach in general. Would you use this in you projects?

  • How to Vertically Center Icons on a Line?

    - by jeremy
What's the best way to center icons on a line when the icons are smaller than the line height? For example (styles inline for easier reading): <div style="line-height: 20px"> <img style="width: 12px; height: 12px;"/> Blah blah blah </div> I want the img to be centered on a single line of the div, above. That is, even if the text wrapped to multiple lines, the image would be centered against a single line. Ideally, the solution would not involve setting margings/paddings on the image and would work even if I didn't know the line-height. Things I've read: How do I vertically align text next to an image with CSS? (deals with case where image is larger, doesn't seem to apply here) Understanding vertical-align

  • Hide Hashtags from the user's address bar

    - by user288082
Does anyone know an easy way to hide hashtags in the user's address bar? I am using a image gallery plugin and the only way to control the start position is to use a hash tag. The problem is the hash tag gives away the relative path of the images folder and it looks bad. Without the hash tag it only loads thumbs and not start image so really it's unavoidable. Thanks!

  • big background without scrolls

    - by mkoso
I have layout that has wider background picture than the content area. I have made 970ppx wrapper where the content is. And in body I have backgroud image but I need to have anothen background image above of tht body background image so I have made class bgimg. So basically the markup is like this: But the bgimg is about 1050px wide and thus it gives scrolls when users browser is 1024x768. Is there way of getting rid the scrolls? I mean I want to have have scrollbars if users browrser is narrower thant the 970x wrapper of course. So can I put something like overflow hidden for bgimg class? Hopefully you did understannd what I mean.

  • Post-back + Page Refresh. Post/Redirect/Get pattern alternatives?

    - by Andrew Florko
When user posts back a web form and then tries to refresh the page - dialog "would you like to resend information" pops up (Opera works silently though). To avoid this we can redirect browser to the page we'd like to show after postback. Now, when user refreshes the page, he duplicates get-request and no pop-ups. Everything is ok but post/redirect/get approach requires additional roundtrip. Is there better alternatives. Send form data with ajax aynchronously, for example? Thank you in advance!

  • Having onFocus do several things.

    - by Jakob
So I have this input tag <input ... onFocus=...> and what I want is for a warning popup to come up if somebody clicks to write in the input field. After the person has read the warning he/she closes the popup and can continue to write in the field. I have managed to implement the popup just fine but my problem is that I lose focus on the input field when the popup comes up so the next time I click the field the popup comes back again and im back on square one. The system I work on uses php and javascript so and I cannot use anything other than that to solve the problem and my experience with both php and javascript is limited.

  • how to disable an onclick event?

    - by user1819709
<form id="QandA" action="<?php echo htmlentities($action); ?>" method="post"> <table id="question"> <tr> <td colspan="2"> <a onclick="return plusbutton();"> <img src="Images/plussign.jpg" width="30" height="30" alt="Look Up Previous Question" class="plusimage" id="mainPlusbutton" name="plusbuttonrow"/> </a> <span id="plussignmsg">(Click Plus Sign to look up Previous Questions)</span> </td> </tr> </table> </form> In the code above I am able to replace an image with another image when the if statement is met. But my problem is that when the image is replaced, it does not disable the on click event. My question is that when the image is replaced, how do I disable the onclick event onclick="return plusbutton();?

  • Dictionary to Json object, "Expected expression"

    - by MrW
I'm trying to convert a dictionery into a json object, so that I can work with it in my front end. sortFields = <%= SchrodersHtmlHelper.ToJson(ViewData["SortInfo"])%>; However, I keep on getting "Expected expression" for this all the time and I'm clueless why. Could anyone explain to me what I'm doing wrong? Edit: The conversion works fine, but I still get this issue in the front end, causing the browser to complain about it.

  • Isotope.js help: Changing item image after sorting

    - by user3643081
This is a general question on how to go about building a project I have in mind, and the best way to set off on the right foot. I am fairly new to JS, please be gentle. I want to use isotope.js (or a similar script) to display a page with multiple items (about 30 different plants found in a garden) and the ability to sort them by seasons of the year + "what is most beautiful now" + and "view all" (a total of 6 categories) . On load, or when sorted by either "what is beautiful now" or "view all", I need each item to reflect the image of the current season we are in. When sorted by season, I need those "current" images to switch over to a designated seasonal image of that plant. Therefore, each sortable item will ultimately have 4 different versions with 4 different images in the background ready to surface when plants are sorted. (perhaps 5 if it makes more sense to have a "current" version besides the 4 seasonal versions.) My question: what approach can I take to achieve this effect in a manageable way? Can isotope apply a class to items sorted? Assuming it can: Should each item have 4 inline images, each with a css class, that I then control by using display:inline; and display:none; properties from my stylesheets? (I worry that this approach would significantly increase load times) Would it make more sense to create a blank dummy div who's background I control similarly to the example above -relying mostly on CSS. Or is there some other way involving JS I am overlooking? Any help would be appreciated. Examples of what you suggest would be immensely helpful.

  • Uncaught syntax error: Adding <li> elements to an <ul>

    - by ThePagan
I keep getting an uncaught syntex error which I know usually means your code has a missing closing something. I keep failing to see what it is that I am missing. The idea of the function is that it extracts the a links ID and Text content and add's it to an un-ordered list. The links have a class of 'ingredient_add' and the unordered list has an ID of 'ingredientsAdded'. I can't see what I've missed here. $(document).ready(function() { $('.ingredient_add').click(function() { event.preventDefault(); var id = this.id; var value = this.text(); $('#ingredientsAdded').append("<li id='"+id+"'>"+value+"</li>"); }); //end add to list }); // end document ready()

  • How to give user confirmation message before ActionLink based on validation

    - by RememberME
I have the following link. On click, I'd like to check the item.primary_company field and if populated, give the user a warning and ask if they would like to continue. How can I do this? <a href="<%= Url.Action("Activate", new {id = item.company_id}) %>" class="fg=button fg-button-icon-solo ui-state-default ui-corner-all"><span class="ui-icon ui-icon-refresh"></span></a> EDIT I've changed to this, but nothing happens when clicked. Also, I don't know how to reference the item to do the check on the primary_company field. I only want to message to show if item.primary_company.HasValue. I'd also like to show item.company1.company_name in the confirm message. <a href="#" onclick="return Actionclick("<%= Url.Action("Activate", new {id = item.company_id}) %>");" class="fg=button fg-button-icon-solo ui-state-default ui-corner-all"><span class="ui-icon ui-icon-refresh"></span></a> <script type="text/javascript"> function Actionclick(url) { alert("myclick"); if ( confirm("Do you want to activate this company's primary company and all other subsidiaries?")) { location.href(url); } }; </script>

  • Pre-loading external files (CSS, JavaScript) for other pages

    - by Jason Young
I'm curious if there is an efficient way to wait for the front page of a site to load, and then pre-load CSS and script files that I know will likely be needed for the other pages on the site. I want the front page of the site to be as fast as possible (lean and mean). It's likely that the user will not immediately click on a link. Since there will likely be some idle time, this seems like an opportune time to pre-load some of the external assets. Pre-loading should cause them to become cached. When the user does click on another page, the only request needed will be for the content and possibly some images, etc. Has anyone done this? Is it a bad idea? Is there an elegant way to implement it?

  • How to reference input elements within a specific scope when there are multiple input elements of same kind?

    - by Will Merydith
How do I select data for input elements within a specific scope? I have the same form multiple times (class "foo-form), and want to ensure I get the values for the hidden inputs within the scope of the form being submitted. Is the scope "this" implied? If not, what is the syntax for selecting input class "foo-text" within the scope of this? Feel free to point me to examples in the jquery docs - I could not find what I was looking for. $('.foo-form').submit(function() { // Store a reference to this form var $thisForm = $(this); }); <form class="foo-form"> <input type="hidden" class="foo-text"/> <input type="submit" class="button" /> </form> <form class="foo-form"> <input type="hidden" class="foo-text"/> <input type="submit" class="button" /> </form> <form class="foo-form"> <input type="hidden" class="foo-text"/> <input type="submit" class="button" /> // user clicks this submit button </form>

    - by user2537332
I am trying to pre-populate a text box with today's date, but for some reason, it keeps showing today's date as 5/30/13, which is a month behind. This code should just be pulling the local time so why is it a month behind? Here is my code, can someone please tell me why the current date is off...Please help, :) var dateToday=new Date(); function loadDate(){ var today=dateToday.getMonth() + "/" +dateToday.getDate()+"/"+dateToday.getFullYear(); document.forms[0].curDate.value=today; } function orderReady(orderTime){ dateToday.setDate(dateToday.getDate()+orderTime); var ready=dateToday.getMonth()+"/" +dateToday.getDate()+"/"+dateToday.getFullYear(); document.forms[0].puDate.value=ready; } <body onload="loadDate();"> <p>Today's Date<br /> <input type="text" name="curDate" size="50" /><br />

    - by user277498
consider the following: http://jsfiddle.net/PxabT/10/ There are 3 divs hd, bd, ft. hd is fixed to the top. ft is fixed to the bottom. I want the lime colored border to go totally around the white central area without increasing the height of the ft or hd divs. How do I achieve that? Many thanks! edit: see http://jsfiddle.net/PxabT/15/ which is a step forward by changing the borders to padding.

    - by stevebot
    Hi, Recently I saw some code like this: <tr> <th> Some label: </th> <td> <input type="text" value=""/> </td> <th> Another label: </th> <td> <input type="text" value=""/> </td> </tr> I am used to table headers being used like <tr> <th> Some label: </th> <th> Another label: </th> </tr> <tr> <td> <input type="text" value=""/> </td> <td> <input type="text" value=""/> </td> </tr> How are table headers supposed to be used? The first example above, lead me to some pretty funky formatting issues, and it seems like in example 1 <label> should be used in place of <th>.
