    Say there's a web application that runs on example.com, would there be a penalty for 301 redirecting the root of the domain (example.com/) to subdomain.example.com for purposes of hosting the marketing website for an application? Obviously we would expect subdomain.example.com to be what is ranked in the search engine, not example.com. We would want other paths on example.com like example.com/path/to/resource to index normally, and be unaffected by the 301 on the root path.

It seems like it would be a huge redundancy, even if it was only an identical index file in every directory. To change anything you'd have to change every single one. I've added a subdomain in my server's panel so that when going to "support.mydomain.com" it redirects to "mydomain.com/support" The problem is that redirection is reflected on the browser's address bar, and I want to make that subdomain work like "base domain". i.e "support.mydomain.com/folder-inside-support" Is it something to be with .htaccess file?
