• To Ajax or Not to Ajax a listing page

  Here i am talking about product listing pages where there are multiple filters that filter the list of products appearing on the page like product types, categories price range etc. I have done such pages using both ajax and no ajax way in the past. What I like about using ajax in such page is that, when filters are selected I only update the section that contains the product list. There is no need to refresh the whole page which could end up re-loading the images on top bar, banners etc and slow down the user performance. Ajax way in my opinion becomes more compact and responsive from user experience. Down side for ajax route for me is; since filter states are not maintained in the URL I end up maintaining them on the server. This becomes complicated if I want to handle multi window scenarios and it is also costly to maintain such state on server memory for each session. Not using ajax and simply keeping all filter values on url and refreshing the page is quite simple but the luxury of refreshing only the pane that really needs to be refreshed is lost. Lately I am seeing a lot of large scale e-commerce sites that are using non-ajax approach on their listing pages and this is making me question one more time if it might be more efficient to build non-ajax listing make due to the long term maintenance ease and sacrifice a little bit from user experience. I am about to start implementing a new listing page for a product which I have the flexibility to go either way and I would appreciate your inputs.

• Postback event not firing on FIRST button click..

  Hi, I have a form which accepts two arguments. The first one is mode - this is either view, new or edit. If it is new then the second argument is type - this is either range, collection or design. When set to new, and the type is valid, a new instance of that type is created and the data from the form is added to it. The item (range, collection or design) then validates the data. If any of the data is invalid then it throws an error, and this error is displayed at the top of the form telling the user why it is invalid. A variable, _Databind, is set to false so that it does not change the data input by the user (in the form fields). The button used to submit the button is called btnSave, and is created in the html source. The click event is wired up in the form Protected Sub Blah(sender, e) Handles btnSave.Click. Strangely, whenever I edit an item that already exists the form submits fine the first time - the click event is fired. However when in "new" mode I have to click the button twice to fire the event. It also blanks all the form fields out on first click. I have even put a Response.Write("Hello World") line at the start of the click event - this is not being output on first click when adding a new item either. It is on first load when the mode is set to edit however. Does anyone have any ideas as to what is causing it to behave this way? Thanks in advance for any help. Regards, Richard

However, when I get source filter „Output 1“ pin, and then use myGraph.Render(source_output_pin), it works. Data is being sent from sink to source and everything connects automatically. However the problem is that the wrong VMR is inserted there. It’s VMR Renderer. I would like to have VMR9, that’s why im doing it. Why wont it work with VMR9 and why does source filter not show correct media type. Thank you.

• Proggraming a VPN, Authontication stage - RFC not clear enough

  I have a custom build of a unix OS. My task: Adding an IPSec to the OS. I am working on Phase I, done sending the first 2 packets. what I am trying to do now is making the Identefication Payload. I've been reading RFC 2409 (Apendix B) which discuss the keying materials (SKEYID, SKEYID_d, SKEYID_a, SKEYID_e and the IV making). Now, I use SHA1 for authontication and thus I use HMAC-SHA1 & my encryption algorithem is AES 256bit. The real problem is that the RFC is not clear enough of what should I do regarding the PRF. It says: "Use of negotiated PRFs may require the PRF output to be expanded due to the PRF feedback mechanism employed by this document." I use SHA1, does it mean I do not negotiate a PRF? In my opinion, AES is the only algorithm that needs expention (a fixed length of 256bit), so, do i need to expand only the SKEYID_e? If you happen to know a clearer, though relible, source then the RFC please post a link. Thanks in advance!

  This is the part of a string "21xy5". I want to insert " * " surrounded with whitespace between: digit and letter, letter and digit, letter and letter. I use this regex pattern "\d[a-z]|[a-z]\d|[a-z][a-z]" to find indexs where I gona insert string " * ". Problem is that when regex OR(|) in string 21xy5 trays to match 21-x|x-y|y-5, when first condition 21-x success, second x-y is not checked, and third success. So I have 21 * xy * 5 instead 21 * x * y * 5. If input string is like this xy21, then x-y success and then I have x * y21. Problem is that logical OR is not greedy. • Javascript "Member not found" error in IE8

• JPA association table is not deletable

  Hi I have a problem with JPA (EclipseLink). I am not able to delete a association table. This is the situation: Product 1:n to ProductResource Resource 1:n to ProductResource I first set the product and resource attributes of ProductResource. If I then try to delete the ProductResource object nothing happens (no sql is generated - no exception). If I comment out both OneToMany annotations in ProductResource I can delete the object. I can also delete the object when product and resource attributes are not set. If I comment out only the annotation above the ressource attribut the ProductResource object gets deleted upon the deletion of the product object (cascade=CascadeType.ALL). I hope someone could give me a hint. Thank you. • Assert.AreEqual to not fail when comparing an enum and an int

  I'm not sure if this is doable, but I will just give a shot. I am calling Assert.AreEqual() method. For the parameters, I'm passing... an enum value which has Int32 as the underlying type because I didn't specify the base type an int (Int32) value Assert fails because it sees that the enum is not int (which is definitely correct). However, is there a way to make this Assert pass when the enum has the correct int value as the 2nd parameter? I can cast the enum to int and have it a quick fix, but it's really ugly. I was expecting some kind of overriding a method that Assert uses to compare 2 different objects and implicitly make that enum type look like an int. However, I wasn't successful at finding any hint/answer around that so far. Someone suggested to create a type converter and use the TypeConverterAttribute to get around. All I want to do, is have an abstract class that implements an interface, and have a class extending this abstract class so that the hard class needs to implement getKommune() and setKommune(Kommune kommune), but not the other method, because that is in the abstract class.   I have a code that sets a new repeating alarm (on production I'll use a inexactRepeating), but the BroadCastReceiver I've registered for handling it is not being called.   After hours of trying to debug a third-party application having trouble with fopen(), i finally discovered that php -r 'echo(file_get_contents("http://www.google.com/robots.txt"));' fails, but php -r 'echo(file_get_contents("http://173.194.32.81/robots.txt"));' Succeeds. Note that as the webserver user, I can ping www.google.com and it resolves just fine. I straced both executions of PHP, and they diverge like this: For the numerical v4 URL: socket(PF_INET, SOCK_STREAM, IPPROTO_IP) = 3 fcntl(3, F_GETFL) = 0x2 (flags O_RDWR) fcntl(3, F_SETFL, O_RDWR|O_NONBLOCK) = 0 connect(3, {sa_family=AF_INET, sin_port=htons(80), sin_addr=inet_addr("173.194 poll([{fd=3, events=POLLOUT}], 1, 0) = 0 (Timeout) ...[bunch of poll/select/recvfrom]... close(3) = 0 For the domain name: socket(PF_INET6, SOCK_DGRAM, IPPROTO_IP) = 3 close(3) = 0 PHP didn't even try to do anything with that socket, it seems. Or even resolve the domain, for that matter. WTF ? Recompiling PHP with or without ipv6 support did not seem to matter. Disabling ipv6 on this system is not desirable. Gentoo Linux, PHP 5.3.14, currently giving a try to PHP 5.4 and see if it helps. Anyone has an idea ? EDIT: php -r 'echo gethostbyname("www.google.com");' Works and yield an ipv4, while php -r 'echo(file_get_contents("http://[2a00:1450:4007:803::1011]/"));' Seems to return a blank result. EDIT 2: I didn't even notice the first time, that the v6 socket opened when the name is used is a SOCK_DGRAM.

• C++ errors not shown in Visual Studio C# project

  I have in Visual Studio 2008 a .NET 3.5 C# project that uses a dll compiled from a C# project (let's call it dll A). Dll A is using on his turn some C++ libraries. The problem is that when I encounter an error while calling objects from dll A, the application just closes, without showing any error. But I need to know what's the problem, I cannot just guess and go blind all along the project with this... I checked Window's event log, could not find anything. I checked the settings of throwing errors in Visual Studio, in menu Debug - Exceptions, all of them are checked (including C++ exceptions), so, any errors should be thrown. My code looks something like this: tessnet2.Tesseract tessocr = new tessnet2.Tesseract(); tessocr.Init(@"s:\temp\tessdata", "eng", false); tessocr.GetThresholdedImage(bmp, Rectangle.Empty).Save("s:\\temp\\" + Guid.NewGuid().ToString() + ".bmp"); List<tessnet2.Word> words = ocr.DoOCR(bmp, "eng"); //App exits at this line If I put in my code something like int x = Convert.ToInt32("test"); this should throw an error. And it throws, and Visual Studio shows it. Does anyone having any idea why the errors are not being shown? Or where else could be registered? Any help is very appreciated! Thanks!

• UISearchDisplayController not working when created in code??

  I'm working on a tab bar application and one of the tabs has a UISearchDisplayController hooked up to a UISearchBar. It's all connected up in the NIB and is working. When I tap the search bar, the Scope and Cancel buttons fly in etc, and the search delegate updates the results table correctly. However, I'm trying to implement the same code in the viewDidLoad message instead of the NIB, however when I delete the search display controller from the NIB and uncomment my code to create the same controller in the function, it doesn't work. It's as if there's some fundamental connection not being made so that all my search delegate functionality isn't being called. Here's my working NIB version of the Search Display Controller. It's hooked up to the search bar, the UINavigationController subclass (MASearchController) and the root view of that is hooked up as the searchContentsController. Now this is what you would expect to do in code to create the same, right? What I'm doing is leaving the UISearchBar in the NIB to eliminate one piece of the puzzle at a time in code. // [MASearchController viewDidLoad] UISearchDisplayController *searchController = [[[UISearchDisplayController alloc] initWithSearchBar:searchBar contentsController:[[self viewControllers] objectAtIndex:0]] autorelease]; [searchController setDelegate:self]; [searchController setSearchResultsDelegate:self]; [searchController setSearchResultsDataSource:self]; I've checked all objects at run time and they all check out. Essentially I've deleted the search display controller from the NIB and then put in the code to create it in the viewDidLoad message. Why would this not work? The search keyboard comes up but none of my search and button animation functionality work???

  Hello All, Has anyone experience this weird issue on safari? Textbox autofill is not at its correct position, please see screenshot below. I have been searching for answers in google for almost a day, still no luck. This is the built-in autofill feature of safari. • Dynamic controls not creating with RSS reader function

  Hello, I am working on a test project for an RSS reader. I am using Chilkat's module for .NET 3.5. What I am trying to do is this: For each item in the RSS feed, I want to dynamically create some controls (labels) that contain stuff like the title, the link and the publication date. The problem is that only the first control comes up "rssTitle", but not the rest and it's definitely not creating the rest, nor cycling through the RSS items. Any ideas where I'm wrong in my code?
