  This is a very simple, probably a most asked question and frequently developed as part of any web application. Say I'm planning to build a web application and some of the functional requirements include (apart from the usual hard hitting security reqs), - Need to have users sign up for a new account profile - Authenticate user using the native app authentication / Facebook or Google or Yahoo or OpenId login - Allow lost password retrieval - Session handling needs Is there an out of the box frameworks (Drupal, Liferay??) that I can use to wrap my application which can be a bunch of JSP's or HTML's with JS? I know I'm asking a very simple and maybe a naive question. But this is a topic every web developer guru will go thru. Any help, advise and pointers much appreciated.

  Good morning - I'm an intermediate-level developer who wants to build on online data-driven app (CRUD with a few calculations and basic HTML form inputs, nothing fancy) that keeps track of user sessions, and looks "professional" (or at least not "homemade").   Hi I am coding a web-crawler which will crawl the websites and selectively parse different sections of a web site. I am a .Net developer so the choice was obvious that I did it in .Net but the speed was very slow which included downloading and parsing of HTMLPages Then I tried to just download the contents first using .Net and then same domains using python but the python was very impressive in downloading data. I have achieved downloading using python but the later part is not that easy to code in python, which obviously i don't want to do. The same batch of domain which took 100 seconds in Python was taking 20 minutes in .Net based crawler I tried http://www.eqlit.com/ to download and in took 8 seconds in Python and same was taking 100 Seconds in .Net crawler Does anyone anyone have any idea why this is slow in .Net but fast in python?

  I'm reading some docs about MDM. According to "Moile device management protocol" document, server can set config for managed devices by installing profile files onto devices. Things that can config in that file are described in https://developer.apple.com/library/ios/featuredarticles/iphoneconfigurationprofileref/Introduction/Introduction.html. My Questions are: if server install 2 profiles that have different config for the same thing, what will happen? "Moile device management protocol" documents also mention about "Managed App Configuration and Feedback". So what is different between the previous config file with this function of server. Is "Managed App Configuration and Feedback" just for specific app, not for the whole device as profile files. which fields can be config via "Managed App Configuration and Feedback" of MDM? • Is the offical Sun Java EE tutorial the best way to learn how to make Java web apps?

  I've been a web developer for almost a decade. I've mostly used classic ASP/JavaScript and I'd like to move into Java based apps. I have a decent understanding of Java itself (enough to know how to lookup what I don't know) and I spent some time doing minor work on a JSF/Spring/Hibernate app, but from what a trusted coworker told me, this application is the example of what not to do. I want to learn the really hardcore stuff (EJBs, HA Clustering, etc), but I know I have to walk before I can run. Is the Sun Tutorial the best place to start? Or is there an definitive book (like K&R for C or Gang of Four for design patterns) that I should buy?

• SVN - ignoring files already in repository

  I have a configuration file in my project which needs to be in the repository (so new developers get it when they checkout the project). Each developer might change some values in the file locally - these changes should not be committed and I don't want them showing in the synchronization menu (I'm using eclipse and subversive if it matters). Note that I can't just set the svn:ignore property since it only works on files that aren't under version control - but I do want to keep a base version of the file in the repository. How can I avoid the file showing in synchronization without deleting it from repository? EDIT: A better description - what I actually need is to be able to set a "read-only" property on the config file, so it can't be changed in the repository as long as the property is on. Do you know anything like this? Thanks

• How do I access a DIV from javascript, if ASP.NET mangles its ID?

  I have a web page that contains a "div" element. On the page, there is javascript to reference the div: document.getElementById('divId'). This was working fine until another developer redesigned the page to use an ASP master page. Now, document.getElementById('divId') returns null. It appears that ASP.net prepends some characters to the names of elements within contents forms when you use a master page. How can I know what the id of the div is when the page loads? Update Allow me to give a specific example to clarify the question: My page had a div with ID divNotice. After changing my page to use a master page, I see when I print the source to the page that renders that the div ID is ctl00_ContentPlaceHolder1_divNotice. My question is, how am I supposed to know what the div ID is going to be when the framework is done with it?

  I recently took on a project to build a webpage. I am an experienced developer but never worked with coding a psd file into a webpage. Now, the psd file uses a specific font, which I do not have probably, as I can see it in grey and [ ] at the bottom of the fonts list. Sorry for the naive question, but what am I supposed to do from the client's point of view? Should I have that font? Should I buy it? Can I extract it from the psd file? And then, does it come into the web-page as @font-face? Thanks for any suggestion

I have a generic method: public bool IsMemberProtected<T>(Expression<Func<T, object>> expression) Would love to have a summary tag of something like this /// <summary> /// Determines whether a member is protected. /// /// Usage: IsMemberProtected<ExampleType>(x => x.Member) /// </summary> But when I do that, the tooltip for the property no longer works when a developer hovers over the method in code to view the summary tag. • Why do they initialize pointers this way?

  In almost all of the books I read and examples I go through I see pointers initialized this way. Say that I have a class variable NSString *myString that I want to initialize. I will almost always see that done this way: -(id)init { if (self = [super init]) { NSString *tempString = [[NSString alloc] init]; myString = tempString; [tempString release]; } return self; } Why can't I just do the following? -(id)init { if (self = [super init]) { myString = [[NSString alloc] init]; } return self; } I don't see why the extra tempString is ever needed in the first place, but I could be missing something here with memory management. Is the way I want to do things acceptable or will it cause some kind of leak? I have read the Memory Management Guide on developer.apple.com and unless I am just missing something, I don't see the difference.

  Hi All, Let me explain my scenarios I have branch called ca-dev and its pretty stable,now I have to revert about 100 revisions (ca-dev has about 400 revisions checked in total after it branched out )from different users which were checked in over 4 months before I am branching new branch called agile-dev.Can any body help me best way to do... I tried using tortise svn some got reverted some I got conflicts and I resolved my self blindly so build is breaking. • Leaving SQL Management open on the internet

  I am a developer, but every so often need access to our production database -- yeah, poor practice, but anyway... My boss doesn't want me directly on the box using RDP, and so we decided to just permit MS SQL Management Console access so that I can do my tasks. So right now we have the SQL box somewhat accessible on the internet (on port 1433 if I am not mistaken), which opens a security hole. But I am wondering, how much of an uncommon practice is this, and what defaults should I be concerned about? We use MSSQL2008 and I created an account that has Read-Only access, because my production tasks only need that. I didn't see any unusual default accounts with default passwords on the system, so I would be interested to hear your take. (And of-course, is there a better way?)

  I am a software developer with 10+ years commercial experience, I am comfortable with nearly all of imperative languages. But I realized that most of employers prefer not candidates who is able to deliver good software but those who is trained to answer questions like "what are ten differences between pointers and references in C++" or "what this messy code fragment will print". Last time I have read a book on C++ 15 years ago in secondary school and yes, that was Bjarne Stroustrup. But today I need something quick, without long philosophical explanations about polymorphism etc but with focus to silly interview tests. So, can you recommend any short and effective books to refresh my theoretical knowledge? Thank you.

• Persistent SQL Table lock from C#

  I'm trying to create a persistent SQL (SQL Server 2005) lock on a table level. I'm not updating/querying the specified table, but I need to prevent a third party application from updating the locked table as a means to prevent transactions from being posted (the table I wish to lock is the key on their transaction that interferes with my processing). From my experience the table is only locked for the time a specific transaction is taking place. Any ideas? The 3rd party developer has logged this feature as an enhancement, but since they are in the middle of rolling out a major release I can expect to wait at least 6 months for this. I know that this isn't a great solution, since their software will fall over but it is of a critical enough nature that we're willing to live with the consequences.

• Normal Priority Builds Will Not Build in TFS 2010

  I have two build processes setup in TFS 2010. One build starts when any developer checks code into TFS. The second build runs every night at 12:30am. I can see the builds have a priority of Normal in the queue. However no queued build ever is run until I change the priority to high. They will sit in the queue forever until the priority is changed. It appears there is a normal priority build in the queue that is stuck. However I cannot find it. I can select , , and and not see anything but these builds queued up. I can run them all and the next day I have queued builds again. I say this because I see the Build Service is configured for port 9192, which leads me to believe there is or was another Build Service on port 9191. Any idea how to resolve this issue? Thanks

• The standard map/associative-array structure to use in flash actionscript 3?

  I'm relatively new to flash, and is confused about what I should use to store and retrieve key value pairs. After some googling I've found various map-like things to choose from: 1) Use a Object: var map:Object = new Object(); map["key"] = "value"; The problem is that it seems to lack some very basic features. For example to even get the size of map I'd have to write a util method. 2) Use a Dictionary What does this standard library class provide over the simple object? It seems silly for it to exist if it's functionally identical to Object. 3) Go download some custom HashMap/HashTable implementation from the web. I've used a lot of modern languages, and this is the first time I haven't been able to find a library implementation of an associative array within 5 minutes. So I'd like to get some best-practice advice from an experienced flash developer. Thanks!

• How do you install cocos2d-iphone on the Mac?

  There are no good instructions for installing cocos2d for iPhone on the mac. I downloaded the current build from git, a folder called "cocos2d-iphone-0.99.1". i put this folder in /Developer/Libary. Q: is this right? I tried running the file called "install_template.sh". it said the templates were already installed. Instead, I manually dragged the templates folders where they belong, and they ~do~ appear in the XCode's "New Project" dialog. When I create a new cocos2d project, I see all these red links for project files, instead of the regular black links. When I try to open them in the finder, nothing happens. I can tell that something is not linked. Can someone please help walk me through this? Thanks!
