  When writing "library" type classes, is it better practice to always write markup documentation (i.e. javadoc) in java or assume that the code can be "self-documenting"? For example, given the following method stub: /** * Copies all readable bytes from the provided input stream to the provided output * stream. But the sentence about flushing and not closing the stream could be valuable. So, when writing a library, is it best to: a) always document b) document anything that isn't obvious c) never document (code should speak for itself!) I usually use b), myself (since the code can be self-documenting otherwise)...

• Virtual guest does not have network access in cafe.

  My Virtualbox guest OS (Ubuntu on ubuntu host) does not connect to the internet when I have wifi access through an internet cafe system. By this, I mean where your browser redirects to an internal web page where you can enter a code. On the guest, I can successfully connect to the virtual network adapter, but I do not get internet access, nor a redirect to the internal web page. I use OpenDNS for the host. I have no problems when connecting through ethernet or regular wifi. Can someone tell me any of: 1) How to fix the problem. 2) How such cafe systems work. 3) At least point me to a technical explanation of such a cafe system so I can begin to troubleshoot. Thanks!

• Citrix Secure Gateway not redirecting to login URL

  We have an older setup for XenApp - users log in through Citrix Secure Gateway running on a windows box. (We hope to start using a NetScaler soon.) Earlier today, connections to https://citrix.company.com/ starting throwing up a 503 error page, instead of redirecting to https://citrix.company.com/Citrix/XenApp/ If you go directly to the /Citrix/Xenapp/ URL, the user is properly directed to the login page, and can launch apps. We've restarted the service, and rebooted the server. We haven't yet tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software. Before we do this, I'm looking for ideas as to how we can get the redirect working again without a fairly major outage window. To make things more interesting, many of our users have Citrix Receiver installed, also pointed at https://citrix.company.com/. Receiver makes itself the default launcher for ICA files, and gives a connection error when it tries to load apps - probably because of the same non-functional rediect?

  I have written a PHP application using Windows and XAMPP. I've been trying to run it on Ubuntu 10.10 with Lighttpd 1.4.26. Parts of the application work fine, but whenever I try to log in, I get a 500 - Internal Server Error page. • How to track url redirects in browser?

  I have typed http://example.com/load/ in my browser window and pressed "ENTER" key. Now on press of enter this website redirects me to http://example.com/load/1/ and then http://example.com/load/2/ and then I finally landed on this url http://example.com/load/3/. These redirection happens at website end, I am not aware where I am going. But I finally landed on this url: http://example.com/load/3/ I want to track where all my browser gone all urls, I am not seeing it in my history as its redirect at website end. Is there any firefox addon or some toll which can track this for me? I am not sure where to ask this question, so asking it here, moderators please check!

  Hello, There are two different web-apps running on two (physically) different servers on our network... one of IIS and another one on Apache - both on port 80 since two machines are accessible by different IPs on our internal network. • How can I transform XML to invalid XML using XSLT?

  I need to transform a valid XML document to the OFX v1.0.2 format. This format is more or less XML, but it's technically invalid and therefore cannot be parsed as XML. I'm having trouble getting my Xml transformation working because the .Net XslCompiledTransform object insists on interpreting the XSL as an XML document (which is fair enough). If I escape the xml-ish tags using &lt; and &gt, they get removed when I download the file. • Serial Communication between Java RXTX and Arduino

  I'm trying to communicate between my PC (Windows 7 using Netbeans and RXTX) with an Arduino Pro, using the serial port. The Arduino is actually connected to the PC using an FTDI cable. The code is based on the Java SimpleRead.Java found here. Currently the Arduino simply prints out a string when it starts up. My Java program should print the number of bytes that have been read and then print out the contents. The Java program works, sort of... If the string is long (10 bytes or so) the output will get broken up. So if on the Arduino I print Serial.println("123456789123456789"); //20 bytes including '\r' and '\n' The output of my Java program may look something like: Number of Bytes: 15 1234567891234 Number of Bytes: 5 56789 or Number of Bytes: 12 1234567891 Number of Bytes: 8 23456789 I'm thinking it's a timing problem, because when I manually go through the code using the debugger, the result string is always what it should be: one 20 byte string. I've been messing with various things but I haven't been able to fix the problem. • maven dependencies and jetty - avoiding deploy

  Hi, I have a project with 3 artifacts: common - entities, business logic. no UI code webapp-a - a public web app webapp-b - an admin web app webapp-a and webapp-b depend on common. common is configured to deploy to a local maven repo. so far so good. I have IntelliJ configured so that each artifact is a separate module. Module dependencies are configured properly. I can add a new method to a class in common and immediately use that method in a class in a webapp. However, when I run mvn jetty:run it uses the currently deployed common snapshot in my repository. It does not use my local classes. If I add a method to a class in common, it compiles fine, but blows up at runtime. So is it possible to either: a) Convince jetty:run to use my local common build output or b) Deploy my common output to my local ~/.m2/repo while I'm testing locally before I want to commit/deploy or c) some other solution? thank you! -- James

  I have some code that downloads gzipped files, and decompresses them. The problem is, I can't get it to decompress the whole file, it only reads the first 4096 bytes and then about 500 more. I've checked the downloaded file; it's 13MB when compressed, and contains one XML file. I've manually decompressed the XML file, and the content is all there. But when I do it with this code, it only outputs the very beginning of the XML file. Anyone have any ideas why this might be happening?

• Extract cert and private key from JKS keystore to use it in Apache2 httpd

  I tried to find this but no luck. I created a JKS keystore and generated a CSR, then imported the signed cert and intermediate and root CA certs. Used this keystore on Tomcat without problems. Now I want to use the same cert for Apache2 http server on the same machine. I actually want to set up mod_jk to redirect /*.jsp and servlets paths to Tomcat and serve the static content and PHP from Apache2. I tried to convert JKS to PKCS12 with keytool to afterwards handle it with openssl with a command like this: keytool -importkeystore -srckeystore foo.jks \ -destkeystore foo.p12 \ -srcstoretype jks \ -deststoretype pkcs12 The problem is only the cert is exported but not the rest of the chain. I actually used this keystore on Apache and it complained about key and cert don't matching (not sure if it's related to the chain or not). Can anyone point me on the right direction? I am not a server guy and I am kinda lost with all this things :-(

Is it possible for me to "port-forward" certain domains on port 80 (that IIS handles) to those other ports? For example, for project_id 10 & thread_id 30 you see: 10 - 30 - yada yada yada yada yada 10 - 30 - xxxxx 10 - 30 - yada yada yada yada yada What I would like to learn how to do in ruby, is some how create an array and aggreate descriptions under a project_id and thread_id, so instead the output is: 10 - 30 - yada yada yada yada yada - xxxxx - yada yada yada yada yada Any advice on where to get started? This requirement is new for me so I would appreciate your thoughts on what you're thinking the best way to solve this is.Hopefully this can be done in ruby and not sql, as the activity feed is likely going to grow in event types and complexity. • Is it possible to disable the retry mechanism in Exim

  I have a very simple Exim configuration that's just forwarding all mail to a set of destination addresses. When immediate delivery to an address fails, the message is added to the queue (and then processed by the retry rules). I want to change this so that if immediately delivery fails, the message is :blackhole:d. (It's ok if a bounce is generated instead, as I'll just redirect the bounce to the :blackhole:). This needs to occur for temporary failures (i.e. 4xx) as well as permanent (i.e. 5xx) ones. I understand that this means that if delivery can't be done immediately the message will be permanently and irretrievably lost. In this particular context, that isn't a problem. Reading over this, it sounds suspiciously like "how can I improve my spamming Exim server". That really isn't what this is for, and if you can figure out a way I can prove that, I'm happy to do so!

  EDIT: I don't know in advance at which "column" my digits are going to be and I'd like to have a one-liner. Apparently sed doesn't do arithmetic, so maybe a one-liner solution based on awk? I've got a string: (notice the spacing) eh oh 37 and I want it to become: eh oh 36 (so I want to keep the spacing) Using awk I don't find how to do it, so far I have: echo "eh oh 37" | awk '$3>=0&&$3<=99 {$3--} {print}' But this gives: eh oh 36 (the spacing characters where lost, because the field separator is ' ') Is there a way to ask awk something like "print the output using the exact same field separators as the input had"? Then I tried yet something else, using awk's sub(..,..) method: ' sub(/[0-9][0-9]/, ...) {print}' but no cigar yet: I don't know how to reference the regexp and do arithmetic on it in the second argument (which I left with '...' for now). Then I tried with sed, but got stuck after this: echo "eh oh 37" | sed -e 's/\([0-9][0-9]\)/.../' Can I do arithmetic from sed using a reference to the matching digits and have the output not modify the number of spacing characters? Note that it's related to my question concerning Emacs and how to apply this to some (big) Emacs region (using a replace region with Emacs's shell-command-on-region) but it's not an identical question: this one is specifically about how to "keep spaces" when working with awk/sed/etc.
