  • Sound doesn't work anymore after replacing RAM

    Hello, today, I replaced one old RAM module with two newer, bigger ones, but now, the sound doesn't seem to work anymore. Already ran alsaconf and it didn't help.     I would like to cache the response of an redirect. (Cache the request to some site which returns a redirect and cache the second request which returns the actual content.)   • Designing a persistent asynchronous TCP protocol

    I have got a collection of web sites that need to send time-sensitive messages to host machines all over my metro area, each on its own generally dynamic IP. Until now, I have been doing this the way of the script kiddie: Each host machine runs an (s)FTP server, or an HTTP(s) server, and correspondingly has a certain port opened up by its gateway. Each host machine runs a program that watches a certain folder and automatically opens or prints or exec()s when a new file of a given extension shows up. Dynamic IP addresses are accommodated using a dynamic DNS service. Each web site does cURL or fsockopen or whatever and communicates directly with its recipient as-needed. This approach has been suprisingly reliable, however obvious issues have come up and the situation needs to be addressed. As stated, these messages are time-sensitive and failures need to be detected within minutes of submission by end-users. What I'm doing is building a messaging protocol. It will run on a machine and connection in my control. As far as the service is concerned, there is no distinction between web site and host machine -- there is only one device sending a message to another device. So that's where I'm at right now. I've got a skeleton server and a skeleton client. They can negotiate high-quality authentication and encryption. The (TCP) connection is persistent and asynchronous, and can handle delimited (i.e., read until \r\n or whatever) as well as length-prefixed (i.e., read exactly n bytes) messages. Unless somebody gives me a better idea, I think I'll handle messages as byte arrays. So I'm looking for suggestions on how to model the protocol itself -- at the application level. I'll mostly be transferring XML and DLM type files, as well as control messages for things like "handshake" and "is so-and-so online?" and so forth. Is there anything really stupid in my train of thought? Or anything I should read about before I get started? Stuff like that -- please and thanks.

  • How and where do you manage your domain names?

    In the past several years doing web development I often times needed to buy new domain names. I changed registrars a lot also so over the years I have multiple domain names scattered over different registrars all over the world. Now I want to bring a little structure into my business, and I am at the point that I want to be able to have easy control over my domain names in a convenient way. Does anyone have an idea on what the best way is to give structure on this. I have made some suggestions maybe you can comment on them for me. 1) Just leave it as it is I can leave everything as it is. To make adjustments I have to log into different panels, and for some registrars I have to email the changes. 2) Transfer all the domains to one registar This will cost a lot, about 10 usd per domain name. But if I can find a registar where I have full control over DNS this is worth looking at. Can you give me some comments on how you are doing things now. Maybe also which registrar you prefer on doing things.

  • Nginx Removes the index.php from URL

    I have a codeigniter php application on nginx. It works as expected on Apache but after moving to nginx, I noticed that the index.php is automatically removed from the URL in all my links.   • Why did I loose access to the mailboxes on my old web/mail host after changing to a new one but keeping old MX values

    So I changed the NS records with registrar to point at the new webhosts DNS servers and edited the SOA record there, deleting the new hosts default MX records and instead putting in the old ones for the old web\mail hosts. The website A record is however pointing at the new webhosts servers and the site comes up fine. But none of this should cause me to loose access to mailboxes on my old hosts mail server right? I log into the control panel on the old host, all the mailboxes are there, all the passwords are fine but I can't log in using either webmail or pop3, says incorrect log-in/password. I even created a new mailbox and password for it respectively, but it would not let me log in. For what its worth I did not change\delete the records for 'A' on the old webhost zone file, since I am not hosting the site with them anymore and NS records are pointing to other hosts DNS servers/zone file so that shouldn't matter right? The old hosts mailserver is also not simply down, I can tell because through the control panel I setup a mail forward for one of the existing inboxes and when sending mail to it, it receives it and forwards it fine. So from this I can deduce that I have correctly inputted the old hosts MX records into the zone file hosted on the new hosts DNS and the mail is being sent to the old hosts mail server(s) and is successfully forwarded by it. But why can't I log into those account/inboxes anymore ?

  • Software disables itself when the PC is accessed via RDP

    We have a large, specialty printer that has vendor specific software that enables its use outside of it showing up simply as a printer in the Windows Control Panel. This software recognizes when we RDP into the machine and "disconnects" the PC from the printer within its proprietary control panel. All is well when an application like TeamViewer is used to access the machine. Ostensibly, the application is helping us be safe by "enforcing" that the machine used for the printer is a walk up workstation, or so the support folks informed me. If TeamViewer etc, fixes the issue, then what is the problem? We have many headless workstations in our warehouse attached to a variety of specialty machines, all used via RDP. We want/need to keep access to the machines the same for the sanity of our production staff. The meat of the question - how, specifically, might a machine know that it is being accessed via RDP (terminal services management???) and how might this be defeated without altering an application or driver. Of note, the system being used is a Windows 7 Pro machine hooked to the printer via USB. Thanks! Nat edit Is there any combination of /admin switches, etc. that will possibly fix this? Simply putting /admin did not.

  • Cannot browse Visual SVN Repositories

    I went through Unable to browse repository after setting visual SVN Server and tried to implement the answer suggested but even the IP address is not solving my problem. I have 1) Turned off firewall 2) Set the directory C:\Program Files (x86)\VisualSVN Server security rights to "full control" for all groups including "Network service" group. 3) Set the directory D:\Repositories security rights to "full control" for most groups including "Network service" group. 4) Tried switching between secure and non-secure connection option in visual svn server manager. 5) Tried different with port numbers. Including 443 (with https) and 80 (http). Also tried giving random ports with/without https. Using computer name/ IP address in the url doesn't help. Windows network diagnostics - Troubleshooting report has following message for me. Security policy settings or firewall settings on this computer might be blocking the connection. = Detected Can someone guide me please? I have spent more than two weeks on this now without any solution. Thanks in advance! I appreciate your responses.

  • Git workflow for two tight-knit projects

    Two very similar projects I'm maintaining an online Markdown editor using Git as RCS (and accessorily made available on GitHub). From this web app, I've created a Chrome app: the code is the same, aside from some Chrome technicalities. I care about open sourcing these two projects. Still, the Chrome app's code being the same as the web app's except for some dull details, I've first chosen to (1) not publish the Chrome app on GitHub, and (2) not use Git to manage its code. Instead, I would manually review the web app's commits, then replicate the few changes in the Chrome app. … slightly drifting apart However, I've decided to add a feature to the Chrome app only. So, even though both codebases will remain broadly similar, they'll be diverging enough to make me reconsider the rationale behind my initial decision to not version control nor share the Chrome app's source code. Since I'm now willing to use Git to version control both apps, and that I want to share both of them on GitHub, how should I go about it? Should I use two different repositories, or one repo with two long-running branches? What would be the pros and cons of each approach in that context? What would be the easiest/fastest way to regularly "import" commits from the web app to the Chrome app, since the web app is going to remain the master branch? Is cherry-picking the only solution?

  • What are the ways to build a failover cluster?

    I have a task where I need to build a failover cluster in two cases: first with servers on Red Hat Enterprise 5.1 and second with SUSE Linux Enterprise 11 SP1. Both cases have SAN. I know there are many ways to build failover cluster, but I can’t find out more, so I need next: The ways to build it? I know only virtualization. Any good book or resource to broad my mind? I’ll be glad to hear any suggestion. Thanks! EDIT #1: failover of servers with bussiness application on it. EDIT #2: will be great to hear summary about solutions with SLES servers? EDIT #3: So if I understand correctly, in my cases the main ways are to use internal solutions or virtualization. So now I have additional questions: Does manufacturer of blades provide some solution? For example HP or IBM. (Without virtualization) Do I need additional server to control "heartbeat" between main and redundant servers? (Virtualization) For example I have several physical servers with VMs. Do I need additional server to control availability of VMs and to move VMs to another physical server in the case their physical server failure? Sorry for my poor English. EDIT #4: Failover of VM or OS on physical server. In both cases will be used SAN , it's not specified, but I think with file system image on it. I started to think that my question is stupid and I need to remake it.

  • Access denied when trying to open files/folders after reinstall [closed]

    Possible Duplicate: Access Denied when saving a file in Windows 7 I installed Windows 7 fresh on a new machine. Now when I unarchive (winrar or 7z etc. ) to Program files (x86) (for example), access denied. Even if I copy a file to a folder I installed an app to it is still access denied. I checked the security, it looks like full control is given to the creator - this is weird as I never ran across this before (same version of Windows 7 - its just a fresh install after some new hardware). It is the same effect as if I was editing the hosts file, and you do not use "run as admin" you will not be able to save it, yo will have to save it somewhere else. This "file copy" issue I ran into is the same. I could change all these permissions, however this is something I never had to do before. I am the admin, why did the install, not give me "full control"? How can this be globally fixed. I cannot change the permissions - they are greyed out - so that is weird as well. If I was a standard reason, It would make sense, however, again, I am the admin.

  • What could be causing windows to fail to sleep or hibernate, and revert system settings?

    I am running Windows 8.1 on my system (Dell e6520) and the symptoms are this: My PC won't sleep or hibernate. It the screen turns off, but the fans just run and run, and after a little while, it completely shuts down, and when I start it back up, everything is closed, like it was a fresh boot/restart. I'm have a weird issue with outlook described here and the fix works fine - modifying a registry value. The weirder part is that after my computer fails to sleep or hibernate, and it starts back up, the registry value is GONE, like I never modified it, and thus the outlook error message is back. I thought maybe a graphics driver was preventing the sleep/hibernate, so I attempted to uninstall the NVIDIA graphics driver and control panel. HOWEVER, once the computer fails to sleep/hibernate, the NVIDIA graphics driver and control panel appear BACK on my system, like I didn't uninstall them. What could be happening here? I really need to be able to sleep/hibernate so I don't lose work or my work state, and these issues are really concerning. What I've tried, without success: Uninstalling graphics driver mentioned above Disabling hibernate and using sleep disabling/re-enabling hibernate Disabling startup items Sleeping as local system admin account disconnecting all USB, network, and bluetooth devices

  • Banshee encountered a Fatal Error (sqlite error 11: database disk image is malformed)

    I am running ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat, and recently I am helping in testing out indicator-weather using the unstable buids. However there was a bug which caused my system to freeze suddenly (due to indicator-weather not ubuntu) and the only way to recover is to do a hard reset of the system. This happened a couple of times. And when i tried to open banshee after a couple of such resets I get the following fatal error which forces me to quit banshee.   • Taking a screenshot from within a Silverlight #WP7 application

    Often times, you want to take a screenshot of an application’s page. There can be multiple reasons. For instance, you can use this to provide an easy feedback method to beta testers. I find this super invaluable when working on integration of design in an app, and the user can take quick screenshots, attach them to an email and send them to me directly from the Windows Phone device. However, the same mechanism can also be used to provide screenshots are a feature of the app, for example if the user wants to save the current status of his application, etc. Caveats Note the following: The code requires an XNA library to save the picture to the media library. To have this, follow the steps: In your application (or class library), add a reference to Microsoft.Xna.Framework. In your code, add a “using” statement to Microsoft.Xna.Framework.Media. In the Properties folder, open WMAppManifest.xml and add the following capability: ID_CAP_MEDIALIB. The method call will fail with an exception if the device is connected to the Zune application on the PC. To avoid this, either disconnect the device when testing, or end the Zune application on the PC. While the method call will not fail on the emulator, there is no way to access the media library, so it is pretty much useless on this platform. This method only prints Silverlight elements to the output image. Other elements (such as a WebBrowser control’s content for instance) will output a black rectangle. Typically I use it to save a whole page, but you can pass any other element to it. On line 7, we create a new WriteableBitmap. This excellent class can render a visual tree into a bitmap. Note that for even more features, you can use the great WriteableBitmapEx class library (which is open source). On lines 9 to 16, we save the WriteableBitmap to a MemoryStream. The only format supported by default is JPEG, however it is possible to convert to other formats with the ImageTools library (also open source). Lines 18 to 20 save the picture to the Windows Phone device’s media library. Using the image To retrieve the image, simply launch the Pictures library on the phone. The image will be in Saved Pictures. From here, you can share the image (by email, for instance), or synchronize it with the PC using the Zune software. Saving to other platforms It is of course possible to save to other platforms than the media library. For example, you can send the image to a web service, or save it to the isolated storage on the device. To do this, instead of using a MemoryStream, you can use any other stream (such as a web request stream, or a file stream) and save to that instead. Hopefully this code will be helpful to you!   • c# WinForms ReportViewer Performance issue using RefreshReport() and ServerReport.SetParameters()

    Hi All, Currently I am writing a c# client application that uses the WinForms ReportViewer Control to display reports from a remote server. I am having performance troubles with the ReportViewer Control, to be specific with the 2 methods reportViewer.ServerReport.SetParameters() and reportViewer.RefreshReport() – they both take a really long time to complete and not just on the very first call, but on each subsequent call as well. SetParameters() takes 20 to 40 seconds (they vary greatly in time, some execute event okay fast) and RefreshReport() is a bit faster but still takes ages. I don’t think the server is the culprit, as the same report viewed using the browser renders pretty fast, about a second tops. The report in question doesn't matter as well. When I break into the process and take a look at the call stack, I see a call to Socket.DoConnect. So I thought that’s a good reason to start using fiddler and I installed it, disabled caching and fired up the app again to see which call takes that long to connect, but the performance issue was gone. By using a proxy I am having the same performance as the webbrowser. FYI: I am using NTLM authentication in the following way: reportViewer.ServerReport.ReportServerCredentials.NetworkCredentials = new NetworkCredentials() { Username = ... } I don’t have a strong webbackground, so I guess my question is: What should this tell me / What should I be looking into? (Btw: Adding fiddler to my installation package is not the solution I am looking for :)) I am grateful for any pointers. Take care, -Martin

  • Using Ghostscript in a Webapplication (PDF Thumbnails)

    Hello, i am using the ghostscriptsharp wrapper for c# and ghostscript. I want to generate thumbnails out of pdf-files. Further Information on the sample-code are given here. There are different Methods imported form the ghostscript-c-dll "gsdll32.dll". [DllImport("gsdll32.dll", EntryPoint = "gsapi_new_instance")] private static extern int CreateAPIInstance(out IntPtr pinstance, IntPtr caller_handle); [DllImport("gsdll32.dll", EntryPoint = "gsapi_init_with_args")] private static extern int InitAPI(IntPtr instance, int argc, IntPtr argv); //...and so on I am using the GhostscriptWrapper for generating the thumbnails in a webapplication (.net 2.0). This class uses the methods imported above. protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e){ GhostscriptWrapper.GeneratePageThumb("c:\\sample.pdf", "c:\\sample.jpg", 1, 100, 100); } When i debug the Web-Application in Visual Studio 2008 by hitting key "F5" it works fine (a new instance of webserver is generated). When i create a WindowsForm Application it works too. The thumbnails get generated. When i access the application with the webbrowser directly (http://localhoast/mywebappliation/..) it doesn't work. No thumbnails are generated. But there is also no exception thrown. I placed the gsdll32.dll in the system32-folder of windows xp. The Ghostscript Runtime is installed too. I have given full access in the IIS-Webproject (.Net 2.0). Does anybody know why i can't access Ghostscript from my webapplication? Are there any security-issues for accessing dll-files on the IIS-Server? Greetings Klaus

  • SOLVED: deploying applications that use LINQ to Entities.

    HI COMUNITY!!!! I want to use L2E since it s very convenient to my company's apps, I created a demo project, the demo does run on every machine but when I, lets say, press a button that has some code that uses the entity I get this error: specified store provider cannot be found in the configuration, or is not valid. note that I get this error only on machines that does not have VS2008 installed, on these machines (the ones with VS2008) the demo works well. any advice is appreciated. I am using MySql server with Mysql Conector 6.3 and the model is created with ADO.Net entitiy model. I want to use L2E since it s very convenient to my company's apps, I created a demo project, the demo does run on every machine but when I, lets say, press a button that has some code that uses the entity I get this error: specified store provider cannot be found in the configuration, or is not valid. note that I get this error only on machines that does not have VS2008 installed, on these machines (the ones with VS2008) the demo works well. any advice is appreciated. I am using MySql server with Mysql Conector 6.3 and the model is created with ADO.Net entitiy model.   • Bindable richTextBox still hanging in memory {WPF, Caliburn.Micro}

    Hi, I use in WFP Caliburn.Micro Framework. I need bindable richTextbox for Document property. I found many ways how do it bindable richTextBox. But I have one problem. From parent window I open child window. Child window consist bindable richTextBox user control. After I close child window and use memory profiler view class with bindabelrichTextBox control and view model class is still hanging in memory. - this cause memory leaks. If I use richTextBox from .NET Framework or richTextBox from Extended WPF Toolkit it doesn’t cause this memory leak problem. I can’t identified problem in bindable richTextBox class.     I am having trouble causing an 'autohide' dock to appear programmatically. Couldn't find any answer around the net, though the following SO Question suggested that .Show() should have done the trick I've tried this on the latest NuGet version of the code.
