  • What's the best way to run a Linux virtual server in Windows 7?

    I need a virtual server for web development, it'll host Apache+Postgres+Ruby+something else. What's the most effective software to run such a server? (ie with least virtualization overhead) Is there a way to run Linux as as service? I use VirtualBox at the moment, but it's inconvenient in some ways, such as it needs an emulator window open which also captures keyboard input when alttabbed into. (Also, coLinux hangs at boot on my machine, so it's probably not an option)

  • How to disable activerecord cache logging in rails

    I'm trying to disable logging of caching in production. Have succeeded in getting SQL to stop logging queries, but no luck with caching log entries. Example line in production log: CACHE (0.0ms) SELECT merchants.* FROM merchants WHERE merchants.id = 1 LIMIT 1 I do not want to disable all logging, since I want logger.debug statements to show up in the production log. Using rails 3.2.1 with Mysql and Apache. Any suggestions?

    I'm designing an image repository. I want to uncouple the filename from the image html link. For instance: image in filesystem is called images/items/12543.jpg HTML is <img src="images/car.jpg" /> Does anyone strongly discourages me to rewrite all image requests using PHP so when retrieving images/car.jpg, Apache really replies content from images/items/12543.jpg? I don't know if I may get performance problems.

    I am tasked to create a web site using Django. It will be a 'sister' site to an existing Plone site. The same Apache instance will be the front end to the sites which allows me to use the same domain name. However, the owners want the users to be able to log into one and still be logged into the other one. How can this be accomplished? Thanks! :)

    My import of sql via the mysql console is rather slow and as our sql file is increasing every day I would like to know if there are any alternatives on how to import a sql file faster. Changing to oracle or other systems is no option, the configuration has to stay the same. Currently the sql file is: 1.5 Gb I'm on Wamp with Apache 2.2.14, PHP 5.2.11 and MySQL 5.1.41.     So I am a total cakephp newb and one of the first things I expected to see basic info about each page request logged. More specifically, what route data including what controller/method is being used. Obviously I did not find what I was expecting and about the only kind of meaning info I can find is from the apache logs. What I expected was to see something similar to first log entry for a rails app request. Does cakephp not log this kind of data?
