  I'm writing a simple macro program: you record your mouse or keyboard movements, you save the file, and the program will run it for you on your pc computer. however, the situation is, what if the file is run on a laptop where the resolution is smaller? what if the file is to be run on a web server where there is no monitor ? ie) the button is clicked at position (x,y): 300,520 but the button will be at another location in a different monitor resolution. How would you approach this problem ?

• Mirroring a portion of the screen to an external display (in OSX)

  I would like to write a program that can mirror a portion of the main display into a new window. Ideally this new window could then be displayed on an external monitor. I have seen this uiltity for a flightsim that does this on a pc (a multifunction display extractor). MFDex http://trac2.assembla.com/lightnings..._x86_Setup.msi I have looked at screen magnifiers or vnc clients for ideas but I think I need to write something from scratch. I have tried to do some reading on osx programing but where do I start in terms of gaining access to the display? I somehow need to extract the graphics from a particular program. Is it best to go near the final output stage (the individual pixels sent to the display) or somewhere nearer the window management stage. Any ideas or pointers would be much appreciated.   I'm running a Postgresql query and getting the following error: ActiveRecord::StatementInvalid (PGError: ERROR: could not open segment 1 of relation base/20983/24161 (target block 5046584): No such file or directory The query is of the format 'SELECT "locations".* FROM "locations" WHERE ("locations"."id" IN (115990, 78330, 77891, 78248, ...)' with about 600 ids in the IN clause - not an optimal query I know but it's what I have to work with for the moment! The server is running PostgreSQL 8.4.6 on x86_64-pc-linux-gnu, compiled by GCC gcc-4.4.real (Ubuntu 4.4.1-4ubuntu9) 4.4.1, 64-bit. Postgis 1.5 is also installed, and the locations table contains a geometry column. Anyone have any idea what could be causing the error? Thanks!

  Hi, In a small test project, I currently have the provider sections in the web.config. I want to move that to a separate config file, like providers.config. My current provider instantiation code is like: //Get the feature's configuration info ProviderConfiguration pc = (ProviderConfiguration)ConfigurationManager.GetSection(DATA_PROVIDER_NAME); This code works if the provider info is in web.config, but how to I read this info from another file (like providers.condfig) because it seems that the ConfigurationManager "reads" only web.config file. I know that there are the SUBSCRIBE and NOTIFY commands but I have found no event package for signaling incoming calls. Background: for a SIP-capable telephony system, I would like to provide an application that displays information about the caller (e.g. name, address, contracts, etc.) when the phone rings.   Of course it would mean you're plugin is not cross-platform but let's focus on the technical side... Is a browser plugin (like done in NPAPI) restricted in what it can do? Or do you get fairly free reign to access the PC and the render-window you're given? For instance can you create Win32/MFC controls in your browser this way? A side question - is your browser plugin conceptually akin to a .DLL, which is therefore just arbitrary compiled code implementing a specific interface for browser control/communication?

• Preprocessor not skipping asm directives

  I'm programming to a microprocessor (Coldfire) and I don't have access every day to the microprocessor trainer so I want to be able to execute some of my code on the computer. So I'm trying to skip a part of my code when executing on the computer by defining _TEST_. It doesn't work. It tries to compile the asm code and dies whining about not knowing the registers names (they're defined alright compiling against the Coldfire, not my Intel Core Duo). Any ideas why it's not working? or maybe an alternative way to run the code on the pc without commenting it out?.   I've got some old Intel printer (Etherexpress XL ) print servers and they seem to be running an Intel OS called Cos aka Intel Client Os i86 I've found out that much just looking in the update files from Intel. It was at least partly written in C. How do I make a custom software image Intel Cos's boot loader will understand ? I know a host PC xmodem's the image to the client device, and I was wondering if anyone had already either reverse-engineered this or had original info ? or is my only recousre to reverse engineer the update file format ?

  Since the Date constructor is based on your PC's timezone and server-side is obviously dependent on the server's time settings... What procedures can I do to ensure that the timestamps I generate are consistent on both ends? I have a jQuery datepicker setup and I do a lot of work, I also have my own datepicker that's generated from server-side code which looks up db availability for bookings. I'm saving arrival/departure times on the server-side and the days are off by one because the JS is local timezone ( mine is Eastern ) . Is my only option doing something like making the JS call PHP to grab a timestamp?

  My company has built a machine that measures wedge and roundness of lenses by reading and interacting with very precise indicators, motors, and a switch panel. The interface for the machine is a WPF application and it runs on Windows Vista on a normal PC bought from the store. I've never worked with Windows Embedded, but it sounds to me like it's intended for this type of system. My question is, what does it buy me? If I were to run this on Windows Embedded Enterprise (Vista) what benefits do I get? Do I get more control of the load, login, and all that? Can I make it more seamless where it doesn't really feel just like a normal application running full screen? Is it something I should look into more?

  Hi guys I have a problem that has lately being bugging me on 2 different computers What is happening is that I press F5, to compile my website, the website loads, but I cannot debug! Its like I am not running the website from visual studio at all. And then sometimes I restart my PC, and it comes back to normal.   How can I check what objects, tools, variables, anything... are used from .NET 2.0 in a C# application. How can I get a C# application run without .NET 2.0 ? UPDATE: sorry, I didn't clarify enought. Here's my situation: I have developed a pretty simple application in C#: embeded browser which displayes static webpages with an option of searching inside of these html pages. I'm using simple textbox, buttons components for this. The application will be distribuited for people wich have very old PCs, even with windows 95. I would like the app to be runable on it, or at least on win 98, without telling the people to install .NET 2.0, as the users don;t really have PC usage skills :) .

  I am interested in purchasing a netbook to do field research in another country. My hardware specifications for the nebtook are fairly basic: Be rugged enough to survive a bit of wear and tear Fairly fast processing (the ability to upgrade from 1GB of RAM to 2GB) A battery life of longer than 6 hours At least a 10 inch screen A decent camera for Skyping However, I am mainly concerned about being able to do basic statistical analysis in conjunction with R Be able run a Spreadsheet program to do basic data input (like Excel or Open Office) Use R to do basic data analysis (Regression, some simulation (nothing crazy), data cleaning, and some of the functionality) Word Processing (Word or Open Office) Do you have any suggestions on which models or brands my fit my needs? Some of the models I am considering: Samsung NB-30 Toshiba NB 305 Asus Eee PC 1005HA Lenovo S10-2 Does anyone use R on a netbook, and if so do you have any recommendations on how best to optimize it? This article from Lifehacker mentions some OS. Anybody use these in conjunction with R? Any help would be much appreciated.

• ODBC: when is the best time to create my database?

  I have a windows program which generates PGP forms which will be filled in later. Those PHP forms will populate a database. It looks very much like MySql, but I can't be certain, so let's call it ODBC. And, yes, it does have to be a windows program. There will also be PHP forms which query the database - examine which tables and fields it contains and then generates forms which can be used to search the database (e.g, it finds a table with fields "employee_name", etc and generates a form which lets you search based on employee name. Let's call that design time and run time. At design time, some manager or IT guy or similar gets to define the nature of the database and at runtime 1) a worker fills in the form daily and 2) management can extract reports. Here's my question: given that the database is defined at "design time" (and populated at run time), where and how is best to do so? 1 I could use an ODBC interface from the windows program, but I am having difficulty finding something good to work with Delphi. Things like ADO and firebird tend to expect you to already have a database and allow you to manipulate it, but I can find no code example of how to create a database and some tables, so ... 2 I could used DOS commands from Delphi in my windows program. I just tried and got a response to MySql --version, but am not sure if MySql etc are more interactive. That is, can I use a script file or a very long stacked command with semicolons and returns separating? e.g 'CREATE DATABASE db; CREATE TABLE t1;' 3) Since the best way to work with databases seems to be PHP, perhaps my windows program could spit out a PHP page which would, when run in a browser, create the database. I have tried to make this as uncomplicated as I can, but please feel free to ask questions. It may be that there are several valid ways, but there is probably one 'better' solution in terms of ease of implementation or maintenance. Better scratch option 3. What if the user later wants to come back and have the windows program change the input form? It needs to update the database too.

• silently execute a MSI package from C#

  Newbie question, let me try and make this as clear as possible. I have a program that needs to silently execute a msi package (well multiple but that's not the problem) The MSI packages are contained in a folder located in the same directory as my program. I've given it a simple name of "InstallFiles" for the time being. I'm not keen on using the full path name eg. C:\my program\another directory\another directory etc because it'll be put on multiple PC's, old and new, in which case the drive letter can change. So far I have: install.StartInfo.FileName = "msiexec"; install.StartInfo.Arguments = "/i F:\\InstallFiles\\JRE.msi"; install.Start(); install.WaitForExit(); However, when its launched it only gives me the Windows Installer switch information and then terminates, how do I get it to run and how would I go about changing the file path?

  Assume there are Java project and Junit project in an Eclipse workspace. And All the unit tests are located in the Junit project and dependent on the application Java project. When making changes to a Java method, I need to find the unit tests that are using the method directly or indirectly, so that I can run the corresponding tests locally in my PC before checking into source control. I don't want to run the entire junit project since it takes time. I could use Eclipse call hierarchy to expand caller methods one by one until I find a test method. But for a project including more than 1 million lines of source code, digging down the call hierarchy takes time too. The search scope within call hierarchy view doesn't seem help much. Appreciate any help.

• Are there any sFTP clients that support a proxy that uses NTLM authentication?

  The title pretty much summarizes the question. We have deployed an sFTP server that needs to be accessed from our client's MS Windows Pc's that reside within a restricted local area network. The only way they can get out for their Intranet is to use an HTTP proxy that requires NTLM authentication. From what I understand all open-source sFTP clients (FilleZilla,WinSCP,etc) do NOT support NTLM authentication (Because of legal issues). I know that there are workarounds to this (installing a local proxy at the machine that understands NTLM) but this would break all sorts of security policies of our client. So my question is : Does anyone know of any sFTP client that supports NTLM ?

• Mono/C#: A good GUI toolkit ? looks good on KDE?

  Hi there, i am trying to get into developing for linux and i am a .net developer so i decided to give Mono a try. THe problem is that i am having problems trying to find a good gui toolkit. I have chosen KDE over GNOME because its a little bit more pleasing on the eye. I have looked here http://www.mono-project.com/Gui_Toolkits I get the sense GTK# is a good toolkit but its for GNOME. I know you can still run GNOME apps on KDE - but do they look nice ? probably not?? I would really appreciated any feedbakc from anyone who is doing the same or has done the same. I don't want to end up choosing the wrong toolkit and then have to change half way trhough. Also i was hoping to do all my development on my Windows PC and then just pass it to linux when i am ready... I presume this is possible? Thanks in advance

Even when i am trying to remove newline charactersets of substring the first 3 char there is no effect on the string. What can be done here? • Delete database. Entity Framework

  I have a very annoying issue and I would love a solution. The problem: I followed the MDSN tutorial- http://www.asp.net/mvc/tutorials/mvc-4/getting-started-with-aspnet-mvc4/adding-a-model Then I tried this guide according to my needs and I set up a database GAMES.MDF.   Then, I deleted the database and set it up again, is supposedly work (I can write and read data), but There is no such database in the APP_DATA folder. Like it keeps it somewhere in my PC and reuse it.   I even tried a new project and it did not work, works but not in the library, and it even uses the data I created before. I even deleted the DB from SQL Server Management Studio 2008. Does anyone know what the hell? How do I delete it permanently, not to remain any trace of him?   Thank you.  Ido
