  • Inherited TShape.Paint does not work after overriding Shape property

    I'm to code a TExpandedShape class inherited from TShape. TExpandedShape must act like TShape and be able to draw extra shapes: Polygon and Star. So, what is wrong? IMO TShape.Paint checks private value like FShape in case section and then decides what to draw. When inherited Paint method is called in my code it checks FShape value sees default 0 value [stRectangle] in there and draws it. PS: I did solve it with blackmagic way using Shape1 property instead of Shape one and if Shape1 value is not stPolygon or stStar i do like this: begin Shape := TShapeType(Shape1); inherited end; But this option is not really an option. I need a good short nice-looking one.

  • Issues with Rails 3.1 API with Query String to Create action on Mac OSX Mountain Lion

    Hi I've been stuck on this problem for a while and would appreciate your help. I'm writing an API to allow an external source like a Browser Query String or a smartphone to enter some model User info in a form and hit the User create action to write the data to the db. Please tell me what I'm doing wrong with the code below. I've also observed that if I have code like @user = User.new(params[:user]), that this approach only works when a user enters their data within the form. And that if I have code such as @user = User.new( name: params[:name], location: params[:location], password = params[:password], email: params[:email]), that this code ONLY works for a Query string entry, but NOT both Query string AND regular form submission. Why is that and how can I write the code above in the Users Controller Create action, so that it takes care of both situations? URL used: localhost:3000/users/create?name=John&&[email protected]&&password=secret&&location=SanFrancisco&date=06122012 The date is of type string but it doesn't show up in the database. Why? Everything else does.   • Let a question always :include its author, how?

    class Question < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :author end class Author < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :questions end When I find some questions, I usually need to get their authors at the same time, so I use: Question.find(:all, :include=>:authors) But I don't write the ":include" part everywhere. I hope I can define the "include" somewhere only once, and when I find questions, the author will be automaticly loaded. Is there any way to do this?

    I've got 30 unopened Lego Mindstorms kits that I'd love to use in my intro programming class to do some simple robotics stuff at the end of the year. We're using Python in the class, so I'd prefer there to be a way for the kids to write the programs in Python. Unfortunately, these are old kits with RCX bricks - not the newer NXT ones, so most of the projects like NXT_Python can't help me. Is there any way to make that happen?

    I'm writing my first C# web application that connects to an XML based service. It requires that I present a certificate and feed the XML stream. It seems to authenticate properly but then it gives the following error: A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond 10.1.10.4:3128 The funny thing is that I'm not on a proxy or anything like that. I'm connecting directly to the internet. At one point I we did use a proxy that with internal NAT address. So my question is: Does Visual Studio have some sort of default proxy setting that I need to change? I see that we have llvm-g++ and c-lang, but to me, a LLVM is something almost like Valgrind of a simulator, where instructions are executed on it, and I can write programs to instrument the running code / interrupt when certain conditions happen / etc ...   • memcpy segmentation fault on linux but not os x

    I'm working on implementing a log based file system for a file as a class project. I have a good amount of it working on my 64 bit OS X laptop, but when I try to run the code on the CS department's 32 bit linux machines, I get a seg fault. The API we're given allows writing DISK_SECTOR_SIZE (512) bytes at a time. Our log record consists of the 512 bytes the user wants to write as well as some metadata (which sector he wants to write to, the type of operation, etc). All in all, the size of the "record" object is 528 bytes, which means each log record spans 2 sectors on the disk. The first record writes 0-512 on sector 0, and 0-15 on sector 1. The second record writes 16-512 on sector 1, and 0-31 on sector 2. The third record writes 32-512 on sector 2, and 0-47 on sector 3. ETC. So what I do is read the two sectors I'll be modifying into 2 freshly allocated buffers, copy starting at record into buf1+the calculated offset for 512-offset bytes. This works correctly on both machines. However, the second memcpy fails. Specifically, "record+DISK_SECTOR_SIZE-offset" in the below code segfaults, but only on the linux machine. Running some random tests, it gets more curious. The linux machine reports sizeof(Record) to be 528. Therefore, if I tried to memcpy from record+500 into buf for 1 byte, it shouldn't have a problem. In fact, the biggest offset I can get from record is 254. That is, memcpy(buf1, record+254, 1) works, but memcpy(buf1, record+255, 1) segfaults. Does anyone know what I'm missing?
