• What's wrong with Bundler working with RubyGems to push a Git repo to Heroku?

  I've made sure that all the files are in the root of the repository as recommended in this discussion. However, as I follow the instructions in this section of the book, I can't get through the section without the problems. What do you think is happening with my system that's causing the error? I have no clue at the moment of what the problem means despite reading the following in the log. • Join and sum not compatible matrices through data.table

  My goal is to "sum" two not compatible matrices (matrices with different dimensions) using (and preserving) row and column names. I've figured this approach: convert the matrices to data.table objects, join them and then sum columns vectors. • Performance issues with jms and spring integration. What is wrong with the following configuration?

  I have a jms producer, which generates many messages per second, which are sent to amq persistent queue and are consumed by single consumer, which needs to process them sequentially. But it seems that the producer is much faster than the consumer and i am having performance and memory problems. Messages are fetched very very slowly and the consuming seems to happen on intervals (the consumer "asks" for messages in polling fashion, which is strange?!) Basically everything happens with spring integration. Here is the configuration at the producer side. • Netbeans Java SE GUI Builder: private initComponents() problem

  When I build a GUI for my Java SE app with Netbeans GUI builder, it puts all the codes in the initComponents() method which is private. I could not change it to public. So, all the components are accessible only to the class containing the UI. I want to access those components from another class so that I can write custom event handlers and everything. Most importantly I want to separate my GUI code and non-GUI from each other. I can copy paste the GUI code and later make them public by hand to achieve what I want. But thats a pain. I have to handcraft a portion whenever I need to re-design the UI. What I tried to do: I used the variable identifier to make the text box public. Now how can I access the text box from the Main class? I think I need the component generated in a public method as well. I am new to Java. Any helps? • Compile error with initializer_list when trying to use it to initialize member value of class

  I am trying to make a class initializable from an initialization_list in a class constructor's constructor's initialization list. It works for a std::map, but not for my custom class.   I have designed an analog clock control. It uses the stroke from two ellipses to represent an outer border and an inner border to the clock face. I have exposed properties in the UserControl that allow a user to alter the thickness of these two borders. The Ellipse.StrokeThickness properties are then bound to these UserControl properties. At the moment, I am binding the UserControl property for the outer border thickness to the margins of the inner elements so that they are not hidden when the border size is increased. <Ellipse Name="OuterBorder" Panel.ZIndex="1" StrokeThickness="{Binding OuterBorderThickness, ElementName=This}" Stroke="{StaticResource OuterBorderBrush}" /> <Ellipse Name="InnerBorder" Panel.ZIndex="5" StrokeThickness="{Binding InnerBorderThickness, ElementName=This}" Margin="{Binding OuterBorderThickness, ElementName=This}" Stroke="{StaticResource InnerBorderBrush}"> ... <Ellipse Name="Face" Panel.ZIndex="1" Margin="{Binding OuterBorderThickness, ElementName=This}" Fill="{StaticResource FaceBackgroundBrush}" /> ... The problem is that if the inner border thickness is increased, this does not affect the margins and so the hour ticks and numbers can become partially obscured or hidden. So what I really need is to be able to bind the margin properties of the inner controls to the sum of the inner and outer border thickness values (they are of type double). I have done this successfully using 'DataContext = this;', but am trying to rewrite the control without this as I hear it is not recommended. I also thought about using a converter and passing the second value as the ConverterParameter, but didn't know how to bind to the ConverterParameter. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. EDIT Thanks to Kent's suggestion, I've created a simple MultiConverter to add the input values and return the result. Any ideas? EDIT Interestingly, the Margin property can be bound to a data property of type double, but this does not seem to apply within a MultiBinding. • OpenGL alpha blending issue with back face visible.

  I'm trying to display "transparent" surfaces (not closed volumes) with both the front face and back face are visible (not culled). For example displaying a cone or cylinder where the transparency is applied on both sides. There are some visible artifacts where some part of the surface does not seems to be handling the alpha values correctly. The issue it seems is when I (opengl) is trying to apply the alpha from the front side of the surface to the backside of the surface.   Hard to come up with a good title for this question. What I really need is to be able to provide template parameters with different number of arguments in place of a single parameter. For other uses, including the default, a Policy can make sense with any T. I have a couple ideas but none of them are really favorites. I thought that I had a better answer--using composition instead of policies--but then I realized I have this case where fun() actually needs extra information that the class itself won't have. This is like the third time I've refactored this silly construct and I've got quite a few custom versions of it around that I'm trying to consolidate. I'd like to get something nailed down this time rather than just fish around and hope it works this time. So I'm just fishing for ideas right now hoping that someone has something I'll be so impressed by that I'll switch deities. Anyone have a good idea? Edit: You might be asking yourself why I don't just retrieve T from the definition of policy based in the template for default_policy. The reason is that default_policy is actually specialized for some types T. • Ubuntu cannot access internet, LAN is fine

  I have an Ubuntu 8.04 LTS server that is directly connected to our Comcast Business Gateway modem and I have configured it with 1 of our 5 allotted Static IPs. My other machines on our LAN can connect to this server (via ssh, web, ping, etc.) but I cannot access this server from outside our network, and this machine cannot get out to the internet either (ping google.com fails with unknown host). Here is my /etc/networking/interfaces file: auto lo iface lo inet loopback auto eth0 iface eth0 inet static address 173.162.54.19 netmask 255.255.255.248 broadcast 173.162.54.23 gateway 173.162.54.22 and my /etc/resolv.conf: nameserver 68.87.77.130 nameserver 68.87.72.130 output from sudo route -n: Kernel IP routing table Destination Gateway Genmask Flags Metric Ref Use Iface 173.162.54.16 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.248 U 0 0 0 eth0 0.0.0.0 173.162.54.22 0.0.0.0 UG 100 0 0 eth0 I have a Windows 2008 machine with an almost identical Static IP, static DNS setup and it works correctly, can access it within the LAN and also from public internet, the Windows machine and the Ubuntu machine are both directly connected to the Comcast Business Gateway. I have tried rebooting Ubuntu, rebooting my Comcast modem, but nothing seems to make it work. I'm an Ubuntu noob, is there some other config I need to apply to make this work? Plus, i tried getting the updatepanel to work just so i could see if it does the update well but it turned out really bad. i added some linkbottons in the content template area and used them as the triggers for testing reasons. i tested and the changes took over the entire page in contrast to just appearing in the content area. I actually just wanted to load a form that is created in another asp. page into the main content area... I seriously need help with this... • System Center 2012 Service Manager change request status stuck at new

  The guy that built and setup this system left rather abruptly and I've taken over. My current issues are I have several change requests that are stuck at New. They do not move to Pending or In Progress. The system is not sending emails when incidents are getting assigned to people. This used to work on this system. I have done a lot of searching and the usual solution to this of stopping and restarting the system center services does not help. Can anyone give me any ideas of where else to look? Update: From all the searching I have done it seemed like I was at the point of re-installing. My initial installation of SCSM 2012 was on a machine that was upgraded from SCSM 2010 and also hosted SCCM 2007 and WSUS. We decided to give it a fresh start on a new server by installing a second instance of the SCSM server on a brand new 2008 R2 server then promoting the new server to the workflow master using the procedures outlined in this article - Dealing with Multiple management Servers. I've gotten to the point where we have both the old and the new server up and the new server has been promoted. I had hopped to get spammed by emails all the sudden due to the workflow taking off, but no such luck. Once all the clients are reconfigured to point to the new server we still plan to decommission the old server but at this point it seems to be that the problem is in the database. Short of any other input from the community, my next plan is to install a 180 day trial on a test server, complete with a separate database so that I can do a side by side comparison between a completely fresh install and what I have now and see if I can find any differences. While that install is running I also plan on investigating the event logs to see if there is anything in there that can shed some light on what is happening on the new server. Update 2: So I've now got a test SCSM server up with a completely fresh install including Database and it seems to be able to transition Change Requests from New to In Progress. I'm attempting to find differences between the two. Stay Tuned! Update 3: In looking through the event log on the new SCSM machine i discovered: Log Name: Operations Manager Source: OpsMgr Root Connector Date: 10/9/2013 3:48:18 PM Event ID: 28000 Task Category: None Level: Warning Keywords: Classic User: N/A Computer: scsm02 Description: The Root connector received an exception from the SDK Service while submitting task status: Cannot set availability on a health service that doesn't exist. This lead me to Event ID 2800 logged after installing secondary server for System Center 2012 Service Manager SP1. I contacted MS to obtain the hotfix, BIG warning here, turns out the hotfix is not so "hot". In order to apply this hotfix, you have to uninstall then reinstall using the files they supply. :( This is where I am at now ... Update 4: Not much luck after the re-install. The errors in the event log have gone away on the new server but the workflows still aren't running and neither the event log nor the workflow status screen seem to indicate why. I've done a comparison of the Activity and the Change Request Event Workflows and I've removed everything from the production system that is not in my fresh test system (which is everything), shut down the services, cleared out the cache folders and restarted the services and still no joy. At the moment the only thing I can think to do is either a)nuke the entire system including the database and start over, losing all of our data in the process or b)contact MS (which is probably going to cost us a butt load of money and time in the end to only advise us to do the same thing. Maybe more idea's will come after coffee ... No answers came after coffee. Attempting to contact MS. Managed to get to their first line of defense, gave them our SA number and someone is supposed to call me back. I am trying to log into my incident on their site to update my ticket with the link to this thread but when i click on the link in the email they sent me it goes to a "Sorry, the page you requested is not available" page ... Linux is looking better and better all the time.

• What are the principles of developing web-applications with action-based java frameworks?

  Background I'm going to develop a new web-application with java. It's not very big or very complex and I have enough time until it'll "officially" start. I have some JSF/Facelets development background (about half a year). And I also have some expirience with JSP+JSTL. In self-educational purpose (and also in order to find the best solution) I want to prototype the new project with one of action-based frameworks. Actually, I will choose between Spring MVC and Stripes. Problem In order to get correct impression about action-based frameworks (in comparison with JSF) I want to be sure that I use them correctly (in bigger or lesser extent). So, here I list some most-frequent tasks (at least for me) and describe how I solve them with JSF. I want to know how they should be solved with action-based framework (or separately with Spring MVC and Stripes if there is any difference for concrete task). Rendering content: I can apply ready-to-use component from standard jsf libraries (core and html) or from 3rd-party libs (like RichFaces). I can combine simple components and I can easily create my own components which are based on standard components. Rendering data (primitive or reference types) in the correct format: Each component allow to specify a converter for transforming data in both ways (to render and to send to the server). Converter is, as usual, a simple class with 2 small methods. Site navigation: I specify a set of navigation-cases in faces-config.xml. Then I specify action-attribute of a link (or a button) which should match one or more of navigation cases. The best match is choosen by JSF. Implementing flow (multiform wizards for example): I'm using JSF 1.2 so I use Apache Orchestra for the flow (conversation) scope. Form processing: I have a pretty standard java-bean (backing bean in JSF terms) with some scope. I 'map' form fields on this bean properties. If everything goes well (no exceptions and validation is passed) then all these properties are set with values from the form fields. Then I can call one method (specified in button's action attribute) to execute some logic and return string which should much one of my navigation cases to go to the next screen. Forms validation: I can create custom validator (or choose from existing) and add it to almost each component. 3rd-party libraries have sets of custom ajax-validators. Standard validators work only after page is submitted. Actually, I don't like how validation in JSF works. Too much magic there. Many standard components (or maybe all of them) have predefined validation and it's impossible to disable it (Maybe not always, but I met many problems with it). Ajax support: many 3rd-party libraries (MyFaces, IceFaces, OpenFaces, AnotherPrefixFaces...) have strong ajax support and it works pretty well. Until you meet a problem. Too much magic there as well. It's very difficult to make it work if it doesn't work but you've done right as it's described in the manual. User-friendly URLs: people say that there are some libraries for that exist. And it can be done with filters as well. But I've never tried. It seems too complex for the first look. • Is there a potential for resource leak/double free here?

  The following sample (not compiled so I won't vouch for syntax) pulls two resources from resource pools (not allocated with new), then "binds" them together with MyClass for the duration of a certain transaction. The transaction, implemented here by myFunc, attempts to protect against leakage of these resources by tracking their "ownership". The local resource pointers are cleared when its obvious that instantiation of MyClass was successful. The local catch, as well as the destructor ~MyClass return the resources to their pool (double-frees are protected by teh above mentioned clearing of the local pointers). Instantiation of MyClass can fail and result in an exception at two steps (1) actual memory allocation, or (2) at the constructor body itself. I do not have a problem with #1, but in the case of #2, if the exception is thrown AFTER m_resA & m_resB were set. Causing both the ~MyClass and the cleanup code of myFunc to assume responsibility for returning these resources to their pools. Is this a reasonable concern? Options I have considered, but didn't like: Smart pointers (like boost's shared_ptr). I didn't see how to apply to a resource pool (aside for wrapping in yet another instance). Allowing double-free to occur at this level but protecting at the resource pools. Trying to use the exception type - trying to deduce that if bad_alloc was caught that MyClass did not take ownership. This will require a try-catch in the constructor to make sure that any allocation failures in ABC() ...more code here... wont be confused with failures to allocate MyClass. • Learning to implement DIC in MVC

  I am learning to apply DIC to MVC project. So, I have sketched this DDD-ish DIC-ready-ish layout to my best understanding. I have read many blogs articles wikis for the last few days. However, I am not confident about implementing it correctly. Could you please demonstrate to me how to put them into DIC the proper way? I prefer Ninject or Windsor after all the readings, but anyDIC will do as long as I can get the correct idea how to do it.   I have an xml that has a description node: <config> <desc>A <b>first</b> sentence here. The second sentence with some link <a href="myurl">The link</a>. The <u>third</u> one.</desc> </config> I am trying to split the sentences using dot as separator but keeping in the same time in the HTML output the eventual HTML tags. What I have so far is a template that splits the description but the HTML tags are lost in the output due to the normalize-space and substring-before functions. • LINQ-like or SQL-like DSL for end-users to run queries to select (not modify) data?

  For a utility I'm working on, the client would like to be able to generate graphic reports on the data that has been collected. I can already generate a couple canned graphs (using ZedGraph, which is a very nice library); however, the utility would be much more flexible if the graphs were more programmable or configurable by the end-user. TLDR version I want users to be able to use something like SQL to safely extract and select data from a List of objects that I provide and can describe. What free tools or libraries will help me accomplish this? Full version I've given thought to using IronPython, IronRuby, and LuaInterface, but frankly they're all a bit overpowered for what I want to do. My classes are fairly simple, along the lines of: class Person: string Name; int HeightInCm; DateTime BirthDate; Weight[] WeighIns; class Weight: int WeightInKg; DateTime Date; Person Owner; (exact classes have been changed to protect the innocent). To come up with the data for the graph, the user will choose whether it's a bar graph, scatter plot, etc., and then to actually obtain the data, I would like to obtain some kind of List from the user simply entering something SQL-ish along the lines of SELECT Name, AVG(WeighIns) FROM People SELECT WeightInKg, Owner.HeightInCm FROM Weights And as a bonus, it would be nice if you could actually do operations as well: SELECT WeightInKg, (Date - Owner.BirthDate) AS Age FROM Weights The DSL doesn't have to be compliant SQL in any way; it doesn't even have to resemble SQL, but I can't think of a more efficient descriptive language for the task. I'm fine filling in blanks; I don't expect a library to do everything for me. Or is there some way to sandbox LINQ? cs-script is close too, but it doesn't seem to offer sandboxing yet either. I'd be hesitant to expose the NHibernate interface either, as the user should have a read-only view of the data at this point in the usage. I'm using C# 3.5, and pure .NET solutions would be preferred. The bottom line is that I'm really trying to avoid writing my own parser for a subset of SQL that would only apply to this single project.

  My client has a XenServer 6.0.2 installation with 2 Window Server 2008 R2 virtual machines. Whenever the virtual machines are rebooted they lose their IP settings (IP address, subnet, gateway). Each time after a reboot I need to login to each VM via XenCenter and re-apply the required static IP settings. This causes issues with connected iSCSI drives within each VM - drives need to be reconnected after each reboot. • Infinite sharing system (PHP/MySQLi)

  I'm working on a discount system for whichever customer shares a product and brings in new customers. Each unique visit = $0.05 off, each new customer = $0.50 off (it's a cheap product so yeah, no big numbers). When a new customer shares the site, the customer initially responsible for the new customer (if any) will get half of the new customer's discount as well. The initial customer would get a fourth for the next level and the new customer half of that, etc, creating a tree or pyramid that way that could be infinite. Initial customer ($1.35 discount: 2 new+3 visits + half of 1 new+2 visits) Visitor ($0) Visitor ($0) New customer ($0.60) Visitor ($0) Visitor ($0) Newer customer ($0) New customer ($0) Visitor ($0) The customers are saved along with their IP addresses (bin2hex(inet_pton)) in a database table (customers) with info like a unique id, e-mail address and first date/time the purchased a product (= time of registration). The shares are saved in a separate table within the same database (sharing). Each unique IP addresses that visits the site creates a new row featuring the IP address (also saved as bin2hex(inet_pton)), the id of the customer who shared it and the date/time of the visit. Sharing goes via URL, featuring a GET element containing the customer's id. Visits and new customers overlap, as visits will always occur before the new customer does. That's fine. The date/times are used just to make it a little more secure (I also use the IP along with cookies to see if people cheat the system). If an IP is already in the sharing or customer tables, it does not count and will not create a new entry. Now the problem is, how to make the infinity happen and apply the different values to it? That's all I'd need to know. It needs to calculate the discount for each customer separately, but also allow for monitoring altogether (though that's just a matter of passing all ID's through it). I figured I'd start (after the database connection) with $stmt = $con->prepare('SELECT ip,datetime FROM sharing WHERE sender=?'); $stmt->bind_param('i',$customerid); $stmt->execute(); $stmt->store_result(); $discount = $discount + ($stmt->num_rows * 0.05); $stmt->bind_result($ip,$timeofsharing); to translate all the visits to $0.05 of discount each. If I'd want to check for the next level, I'd basically have to put the exact same check and loop in itself, checking each new customer the initial customer they brought to the site, and then for the next level again to check all of the newer customers, etc, etc. What to do? / Where to go? / What would be the correct practice for this? • Reusing my PagedList object on WCF

  The problem: I have a custom collection PagedList<T> that is being returned from my WCF service as PagedListOfEntitySearchResultW_SH0Zpu5 when T is EntitySearchResult object. I want to reuse this PagedList<T> type between the application and the service. My scenario: I've created a PagedList<T> type that inherits from List<T>. This type is on a separated assembly that is referenced on both application and WCF service. I'm using the /reference option on the scvutil to enable the type reusing. I also don't want any arrays returned so I also use the /collection to map to the generic List type.
