• How To Make Moving News Bar in Windows Forms Application without Timer

  I'm making a desktop application in C# which contains a moving News Bar labels. I'm using a timer to move these labels but the problem is that when i make the interval of this timer low (1-10 for example) the application takes very high percentage of CPU Usage, And when i make it higher(200 -500 ) the movement of the labels becomes intermittent or not smooth movement even that the user may not be able to read the news in Comfortable way. ((More Information)) it is Windows form application. the way i move the labels is as follows : the news items from RSS feeds are represented in a group of linklabels. All these linklabels are added to a flowlayout container. The timer moves the whole flowlayout container. I found this way according to my knowledge the best way to making the news bar. If you have better idea or solution please help

• Test iPhone in-app purchases on a different bundle?

  We have a group of beta testers for iPhone app. Recently, we added in-app purchases to the app. Before this, we would send out ad hoc builds to beta testers using a separate bundle ID and name so that they could have the store build and the ad hoc build on their phones. However, it seems like we have to build the ad hoc copy with the same Bundle ID to test in-app purchases, and this means we can't send out a seperate beta copy - our beta file (annoyingly) overwrites the user's store-bought app. Is there any way to test in-app purchases in a different bundle ID? Do I need to set up fake, test in-app purchases for the test build too?

• WPF Application - Role Management Recommendations

  I have a WPF application with a WCF service layer and a SQL database. I now want to restrict elements of the application so that certain functions are only available to those users with a particular role. For example, you will only be able to navigate to the settings screen if you are an administrator. I would like a user to be a member of 1 or more authorisation groups and each authorisation group to have 1 or more roles associated. A long time ago I used AzMan (Authorisation Manager) to do a similar thing. Does anyone think that there are better approaches? Is AzMan "old news"? Alternatives? Thanks.

• Is it inmoral to put a captcha on a login form?

  In a recent project I put a captcha test on a login form, in order to stop possible brute force attacks. The inmediate reaction of other coworkers was a request to remove it, saying that it was innapropiate for that purpose, and that it was quite exotic to see a captcha in that place. I've seen captcha images on signup, contact, password recovery forms, etc. So I personally don't see innapropiate to put a captcha also on a place like that. Well, it obviously burns down usability a little bit, but it's a matter of time and getting used to it. With the lack of a captcha test, one would have to put some sort of blacklist / account locking mechanism, which also has some drawbacks. Is it a good choice for you? Am I getting somewhat captcha-aholic and need some sort of group therapy? Thanks in advance.

  Executing Oracle RAC cluster management commands such as $ORA_CRS_HOME/bin/crs_start requires root permissions. Using Solaris RBAC (Role-Based Access Control), one can give a non-root user permissions to execute those commands, but the commands still fail internally. Example: $pfexec /opt/11.1.0/crs/bin/crs_stop SomeArg CRS-0259: Owner of the resource does not belong to the group. Is there a complete RBAC solution for Oracle RAC or does the executor need to be root? • Best method for converting several sets of numbers with several different ratios

  I'm working on an open-source harm reduction application for opioid addicts. One of the features in this application is the conversion (in mg/mcg) between common opioids, so people don't overdose by accident. If you're morally against opioid addiction and wouldn't respond because of your morals, please consider that this application is for HARM REDUCTION.. So people don't end up dead. I have this data.. 3mg morphine IV = 10mcg fentanyl IV 2mg morphine oral = 1mg oxycodone oral 3mg oral morphine = 1mg oxymorphone oral 7.0mg morphine oral = 1mg hydromorphone oral 1mg morphine iv = .10mg oxymorphone iv 1mg morphine oral = 1mg hydrocodone oral 1mg morphine oral = 6.67mg codeine oral 1mg morphine oral = .10mg methadone oral And I have a textbox that is the source dosage in mg (a double) that the user can enter in. Underneath this, I have radio boxes for the source substance (ie: morphine) and the destination substance (ie oxycodone) for conversion.. I've been trying to think of the most efficient way to do this, but nearly every seems sloppy. If I were to do something like public static double MorphinetoOxycodone(string morphineValue) { double morphine = Double.Parse(morphineValue); return (morphine / 2 ); } I would also have to make a function for OxycodonetoMorphine, OxycodonetoCodeine, etc.. and then would end up with dozens functions.. There must be an easier way than this that I'm missing. If you'll notice, all of my conversions use morphine as the base value.. what might be the easiest way to use the morphine value to convert one opioid to another? For example, if 1mg morphine oral is equal to 1mg hydrocodone and 1mg morphine oral is equal to .10mg methadone, wouldn't I just multiply 1*.10 to get the hydrocodone-methadone value? Implementing this idea is what I'm having the most trouble with. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.. and if you'd like, I would add your name/nickname to the credits in this program. It's possible that many, many people around the world will use this (I'm translating it into several languages as well) and to know that your work could've helped an addict from dying..   I am trying to calculate the necessary sample size for a 2x2 factorial design. I have two questions. 1) I am using the package pwr and the one way anova function to calculate the necessary sample size using the following code pwr.anova.test(k = , n = , f = , sig.level = , power = ) However, I would like to look at two way anova, since this is more efficient at estimating group means than one way anova. There is no two-way anova function that I could find. Is there a package or routine in [R] to do this? 2) Moreover, am I safe in assuming that since I am using a one-way anova power calculations, that the sample size will be more conservative (i.e. larger)?

  I'm thinking about implimenting a 16 bit CPU in VHDL. A simplish CPU. ADD, MULS, NEG, BitShift, JUMP, Relitive Jump, BREQ, Relitive BREQ, i don't know somethign along these lines Probably all only working with 16bit operands. I might even cut it down and use only a single operand and a accumulator. With Some status regitsters, Carry, Zero, Neg (unless i use a Accumlator), I know how to design all the parts from logic gates, and plan to build them up from first priciples, So for my ALU I'll need to 'build' a ADDer, proably a Carry Look ahead, group adder, this adder it self is make up oa a couple of parts, wich are themselves made up of a couple of parts. Anyway, my problem is not the CPU design, or the VHDL (i know the language, more or less). It's how i should keep things organised. How should I use packages, How should I name my processes and port maps? (i've never seen the benifit of naming the port maps, or processes)

We consist in a group of 4 developers and a manager (that knows something about programming and distributed systems). Each one, having own opinion on service design. It consists in a distributed system: a user interface (web app) accessing the services in a dedicated server (inside the firewall), to obtain the business logic operations. So we got 2 main approachs that I list above : Modular services Having many modules, each one consisting of a service (WCF). Example: namespaces SystemX.DebtService, SystemX.CreditService, SystemX.SimulatorService Unique service All the business logic is centralized in a unique service. Example: SystemX.OperationService. The web app calls the same service for all operations. In your opinion, whats the best? Or having another approach is better for this scenario?

• Alternative databases to use when putting IIS Logs into a database using LogParser

  We have run some scripts that use LogParser to dump our IIS logs into a SQL Server database. We can then query this to get simple stats on hits, usage etc. It's also good when linking it to error log databases and performance counter database to compare usage with errors, etc. Having implemented this for just one system and for the last 2-3 weeks we already have a 5GB database with around 10 million records. This is making any queries to this database quite slow and will no doubt cause storage issues if we continue to log as we are. Can anyone suggest any alternative databases that we could use for this data that would be more efficient for such logs? I'd be particularly interested in any experience of Google's BigTable or Amazon's SimbleDB. Are either of these suitable for reporting queries? COUNTs, GROUP BYs, PIVOTs?

• Use a push button to add a section in an InfoPath form?

  I'm working on an InfoPath form that's going to be run with InfoPath Forms Services on a SharePoint server. For a number of reasons -- mostly so that the customer can update the form without involving an administrator -- this can't be a form containing .NET code. The form has a repeating group, and we have users who are a bit confused as to how to add and delete items from the repeating section. I've looked all over the Internets, but haven't been able to find a way to do this without adding a code project to the form. Is there any way to write a rule or do something else to make a button that adds an item to a repeating section?

  Hello, I'm somewhat new to SQL queries, and I'm struggling with this particular problem. Let's say I have query that returns the following 3 records (kept to one column for simplicity): Tom Jack Tom And I want to have those results grouped by the name and also include the fraction (ratio) of the occurrence of that name out of the total records returned. So, the desired result would be (as two columns): Tom | 2/3 Jack | 1/3 How would I go about it? Determining the numerator is pretty easy (I can just use COUNT() and GROUP BY name), but I'm having trouble translating that into a ratio out of the total rows returned. Any help is much appreciated!

  So I have an excel workbook that has a nice global map of shaperange objects. With some very simple code I can change the colors, group and ungroup collections of countries into arrays, etc...and it works pretty well. However, I would like to bring this into Access. So I could copy and paste all the shapes into an access form manually, but then they become pictures and I cannot change the colors of the countries (shaperange objects) to have the map act interactively as I can in excel. So I am thinking that I know how to use excel functions from access, and how to open excel from access. Is there a way to copy an object from excel (I know the file name and the shape name that i mean to copy everytime), and bringing it back to access to paste on a form? Atypical, I know, all my Access questions are. Thanks!

• How to allow users to select their own grouping for a .NET TreeView control

  I am using a treeview to display projects, tasks, time entries, and the people who are working on a project. I would like to allow the user to define a custom grouping (ie. Project->Task->Time Entries or Project->Date (of time entry)->Task->TimeEntry). The relevant groups would be Project, Task, Time Entry, and Person, with some metadata from them. I want to have some modular way to allow a user to specify how they would like to display the information. Does anyone know of a good method by which this can be done? I currently have hard-coded a display which looks like this: Project Task Time Entry Next Project ... My thought is to do something like write methods to display each type and somehow let a user select what order the display would group. Please let me know if I am not being clear enough.

  Stackoverflowers, I have a resultset from a SQL query in the form of: Category Column2 Column3 A 2 3.50 A 3 2 B 3 2 B 1 5 ... I need to group the resultset based on the Category column and sum the values for Column2 and Column3. I have to do it in code because I cannot perform the grouping in the SQL query that gets the data due to the complexity of the query (long story). This grouped data will then be displayed in a table. I have it working for specific set of values in the Category column, but I would like a solution that would handle any possible values that appear in the Category column. I know there has to be a straightforward, efficient way to do it but I cannot wrap my head around it right now. How would you accomplish it?

  Hi folks My problem is that I'm trying to count which tag has been used most in a table of user-submitted code. But the problem is with the database structure. The current query I'm using is this: SELECT tag1, COUNT(tag1) AS counttag FROM code GROUP BY tag1 ORDER BY counttag DESC LIMIT 1 This is fine, except, it only counts the most often occurence of tag1 - and my database has 5 tags per post - so there's columns tag1, tag2, tag3, tag4, tag5. How do I get the highest occurring tag value from all 5 columns in one query? Jack

• MYSQL Inner Join two table over two keys

  I am doing a query to return all users shopping carts, stored in the sb_carts table. The product information stored in sb_carts is referenced over two keys product_sku and school_id. It needs to reference both to return a unique product with unique stock levels etc. When I execute the following query it returns one row, I am expecting 3 rows. I have tried breaking the inner join into two separate joins but this still returns only 1 result. joining only on one key has the desired result, but may be retuning the wrong product.   Hi, I have got some strings to be matched via RegEx. We have a java application which reads the regex from a config file and takes two groups of strings, number of which are specified in the same config. E.g. CustomAction.523274ca945f.dialogLabel=Executing Custom Code... will be matched with (?m)^(?!#)\s*(\S*)\s*=\s*(\S*.*) What I need is to pick the first group "CustomAction.523274ca945f.dialogLabel" and exclude the random string in the middle so I end up with something like "CustomAction.dialogLabel" or "CustomAction..dialogLabel" well any other combination but the random string. • What CPAN module can summarize Perl error logs?

  I'm maintaining some website code that will soon dump all its errors and warnings into a log file. In order to make this a bit more pro-active I plan to parse this log file daily, summarize the warnings and errors (i.e. count the occurrence of each specific one and group by either warning/error) and then email this to the devs on the project. This would likely admittedly be rather trivial with a hash and some further fiddling, I wondered if there is a suitable module on CPAN that I could use to do this task. It would either be one that summarizes specifically Perl error/warnings logs or one that summarizes arbitrary text files. Any suggestions?

• mySQL Left Join on multiple tables

  Hi I'm really struggling with this query. I have 4 tables (http://oberto.co.nz/db-sql.png): Invoice_Payement, Invoice, Client and Calendar. I'm trying to create a report by summing up the 'paid_amount' col, in Invoice_Payment, by month/year. The query needs to include all months, even those with no data There query needs the condition (Invoice table): registered_id = [id] I have tried with the below query, which works, but falls short when 'paid_date' does not have any records for a month. The outcome is that month does not show in the results I added a Calendar table to resolved this but not sure how to left join to it. SELECT MONTHNAME(Invoice_Payments.date_paid) as month, SUM(Invoice_Payments.paid_amount) AS total FROM Invoice, Client, Invoice_Payments WHERE Client.registered_id = 1 AND Client.id = Invoice.client_id And Invoice.id = Invoice_Payments.invoice_id AND date_paid IS NOT NULL GROUP BY YEAR(Invoice_Payments.date_paid), MONTH(Invoice_Payments.date_paid) Please see the above link for a basic ERD diagram of my scenario. Following are my requirements: 1) Need good control to the access variables 2) LDAP integration support 3) User Group Support 4) Good Themes and Templates Mediawiki has the problem that it does not support Users Groups that intutively. Twiki and Foswiki have a problem that any authenticated user that has write permissions for a topic also have the write to change the particualar permissions for the topic. Else, can someone suggest me where to look for the answer. I know about the WikiMatrix.
