• What is the best free Java based bug tracker?

  For internal development team I'm looking for a bug tracker. Important requirements are: Free (must have) WAR/EAR-deployable (must have; support team prefers to have all apps deployed same way) Nice UI (nice to have) UPDATE Since I wrote this, Atlassian has introduced a $10 (ten, not ten thousand!) version of JIRA for 10 developers. I think it's as good as it can get -- best issue tracker out there with all enterprise features, for the cost of a few coffees. I have bought it for my current group out of my own pocket (to avoid bureaucracy).

  I have a custom validation in the enterprise validation block. In the front end, when I iterate through the ValidationResults collection and grab a ValidationResult object, I would need to identify and group different types of messages and render them differently. My question is - how do I mark a failure as a warning?

• Can this MySQL subquery be optimised?

  I have two tables, news and news_views. Every time an article is viewed, the news id, IP address and date is recorded in news_views. I'm using a query with a subquery to fetch the most viewed titles from news, by getting the total count of views in the last 24 hours for each one. It works fine except that it takes between 5-10 seconds to run, presumably because there's hundreds of thousands of rows in news_views and it has to go through the entire table before it can finish. The query is as follows, is there any way at all it can be improved? SELECT n.title , nv.views FROM news n LEFT JOIN ( SELECT news_id , count( DISTINCT ip ) AS views FROM news_views WHERE datetime >= SUBDATE(now(), INTERVAL 24 HOUR) GROUP BY news_id ) AS nv ON nv.news_id = n.id ORDER BY views DESC LIMIT 15

• How to get parent node in Stanford's JavaNLP?

  Hello. Suppose I have such chunk of a sentence: (NP (NP (DT A) (JJ single) (NN page)) (PP (IN in) (NP (DT a) (NN wiki) (NN website)))) At a certain moment of time I have a reference to (JJ single) and I want to get the NP node binding A single page. If I get it right, that NP is the parent of the node, A and page are its siblings and it has no children (?). When I try to use the .parent() method of a tree, I always get null. The API says that's because the implementation doesn't know how to determine the parent node. Another method of interest is .ancestor(int height, Tree root), but I don't know how to get the root of the node. In both cases, since the parser knows how to indent and group trees, it must know the "parent" tree, right? How can I get it? Thanks

• Seeking References To MSVC 9.0's C++ Standards Compliance

  I "know" (hopefully) that MSVC 9.0 Implements C++ 2003 (ISO/IEC 14882:2003). I am looking for a reference to this fact, and I am also looking for any research that has been done in to how compliant MSVC 9.0 is with that version of the Standard. I have searched for and not been able to find a specific reference from MicroSoft that actually says something to the effect that MSVC implements C++ 2003. Some of the out-of-date documentation says things like "this release achieves roughly 98% compliance" (when referring to MSVC .NET 2003's conformance to C++ 1997). But I want a link to a document from MS that says "MSVC 9.0 implements blah," and another link to an independent group that has tested the conformance of MSVC 9.0. Do you know of any such links?

  I'm trying to create a single query which, similar to stack overflow, will give me the number of votes, but also make sure that the currently viewing user can't upvote again if they've already upvoted. my query currently looks like SELECT cid, text, COUNT(votes.parentid) FROM comments LEFT JOIN votes ON comments.cid=votes.parentid AND votes.type=3 WHERE comments.type=0 AND comments.parentid='$commentParentid' GROUP BY comments.cid But I'm completely stumpted on how to add the check to see if the userid is in the votes table. The other option is to add a seperate query where SELECT COUNT(*) FROM votes WHERE userid='$userid' AND parentid='$commentParentid' AND type=3 I'm just realizing I'm so lost with this that I don't even really know what tags to provide.

  I'm playing around with the Lahman Baseball Database in a MySQL instance. I want to find the players who topped home runs (HR) for each year.   How should I be using color in my application? I have over a 100 different forms (windows) in my application, and the default windows grey seems like a bad choice to me. One school of thought says pick one neutral color, and use the same one everywhere. Another school of thought says pick a set of neutral colors, and use them same ones within a group of form (e.g., shipping screens might be light green, receiving screens light orange, user administration screens light blue, etc.). The final school of thought says make every form different. We've got millions of colors, why not use them? What should I do and why?

  I have an ASP.Net Web site using .Net Membership with a SQL Server provider, so the users and roles are stored in the SQL tables created by Aspnet_regsql.exe. Is this architecture totally self-contained and portable, or are users in it somehow bound to the specific Web site on which they create their account? Put another way, if we create a bunch of users in dev or UAT, the back up and restore this database to another server, accessed under another domain name, should it still work just fine? We're seeing some odd behavior when we move the database, like users losing group affiliation and such, and I'm curious how portable and environment-agnostic this database really is. I have a sneaking suspicion that something is bound to the machine key or the domain.

• Alternative approach to OpenGL View on top of Camera

  Hi, the traditional way of doing a camera preview background with OpenGL on the front is to take two SurfaceViews(one for the camera another for OpenGL) and stack them on top of each other. The problem is that stacking SurfaceViews is discouraged: http://groups.google.com/group/android-developers/browse_thread/thread/4850fe5c314a3dc6 So what alternatives are there? I was considering the following: Subclass GlSurfaceView, and then call set the Camera preview onto the holder of this subclass: Camera.setPreviewDisplay(mHolder); Don't use GLSurfaceView, instead create your own SurfaceView subclass where you display the Camera preview onto the holder and also draw your openGL. This would require to use OpenGL without GLSurfaceView, has anyone done this before? I'm not sure if this even is possible or makes sense, since it implies displaying the camera preview onto the holder of the surface and at the same time drawing OpenGL on the same surface. Is there any other sensible alternative to solving the problem without using two SurfaceViews? Thanks!

  Greetings, I am new to MDX, and am having trouble understanding how to perform an aggregation on a hierarchy level with members that have the same names. This query is particular to Microsoft Analysis Services 2000 cubes. I have a given hierarchy dimension with levels defined as follows: [Segment].[Flow].[Segment Week] Within the [Segment Week] level, I have the following members: [Week- 1] [Week- 2] [Week- 3] ... [Week- 1] [Week- 2] [Week- 3] The members have the same names, but are aligned with a different [Flow] in the parent level. So, the first occurrence of the [Week- 1] member aligns with [Flow].[A] while the second occurrence of [Week- 1] aligns with [Flow].[B]. What I am trying to do is aggregate all the members within the [Segment Week] level that have the same name. In SQL terms, I want to GROUP BY the member names within the [Segment Week] level. • Most Rails-y way to give different views of the same resource?

  In Rails, is there a canonical way of giving different views of the same resource? For example, a directory of people, where each person can have multiple photos, phone numbers, email addresses, etc. The people, photos and phone numbers are actually different resources with their own RESTful actions. But when viewing people, one page might shows everyone's name and associated photos; another page is names and associated contact information, formatted for printing. Would it be more "Rails-y" to: Create additional actions on the People controller besides the RESTful ones, like "index_with_contact_info"? Create a different controller and a different group of views? Neither seems quite right to me, but the first seems more likely. Any thoughts?

  My web app (asp VB 2005) uses Windows authentication. If the user isn't part of a specific AD security group they don't get to edit the data; instead I redirect the user to a read-only page. The program works fine in the IDE. I published the web app to my laptop and Disabled anonymous access. When I ran the program I got redirected to the read-only page. I added a write event to the application event log to see what was going on, and found that the WindowsPrincipal.Identity.Name contained my laptop's ID, not my user name. I reassert: anonymous access is disabled in IIS and the web.config file has Windows Authentication. Can anyone suggest what else to check? Or can you explain what's going on?

Although we understand the interface ourselves, we just don't have the time to manage it, and thought we might also benefit from a pro's added experience. However, looking at the My Change History page, the only changes I see are '1 Max CPC changed' on each Ad Group - almost always at the same time every day.   Hey, I've been struggling with writing a single string into a file. I'm using just a simple code under Slackware 13: $fp = fopen('/my/absolute/path/data.txt', 'w'); fwrite($fp, 'just a testing string...'); fclose($fp); The file gets created (if it's not already created) but it's empty ?! The directory in which this file is written is owned by apache's user & group (daemon.daemon) and has 0777 permissions. This has never happened to me before. I'm curious what's the reason I'm not able to write inside the file ? Thanks in advance.

• Union on ValuesQuerySet in django

  I've been searching for a way to take the union of querysets in django. From what I read you can use query1 | query2 to take the union... This doesn't seem to work when using values() though. I'd skip using values until after taking the union but I need to use annotate to take the sum of a field and filter on it and since there's no way to do "group by" I have to use values(). The other suggestions I read were to use Q objects but I can't think of a way that would work. Do I pretty much need to just use straight SQL or is there a django way of doing this? What I want is: q1 = mymodel.objects.filter(date__lt = '2010-06-11').values('field1','field2').annotate(volsum=Sum('volume')).exclude(volsum=0) q2 = mymodel.objects.values('field1','field2').annotate(volsum=Sum('volume')).exclude(volsum=0) query = q1|q2 But this doesn't work and as far as I know I need the "values" part because there's no other way for Sum to know how to act since it's a 15 column table.

I run my view with this elapsed_time?startkey=["123"]&endkey=["123",{}]&group=true&group_level=1 and here is my reduce function, the intention is to reduce the output to get the earliest and latest timestamps and return the difference between them and now function(keys,values,rereduce) { var now = new Date().valueOf(); var first = Number.MIN_VALUE; var last = Number.MAX_VALUE; if (rereduce) { first = Math.max(first,values[0].first); last = Math.min(last,values[0].last); } else { first = keys[0][0][1]; last = keys[keys.length-1][0][1]; } return {first:now - first, last:now - last}; } and when processing a query it constantly raises the following execption: function raised exception (new TypeError("keys has no properties", "", 1)) I am making sure not to reference keys inside my rereduce block. Why does this function constantly raise this exception?
