• Is ther a Designer for MFC in Visual Studio like for windows forms in .NET?

  Hello, I'm a .NET programmer. I've never developed anything in MFC. Currently I had to write a C++ application (console) for some image processing task. I finished writing it. But the point is I need to design GUI also for this. Well, there won't be anything complex. Just a window with few Buttons, RadioButtons, Check Boxes, PicturesBox & few sliders. thats it. I'm using VS 2008 and was expecting a .NET style form designer. Just to test, I created a MFC project (with all default configuration) and these files were created by default: ChildFrm.cpp MainFrm.cpp mfc.cpp mfcDoc.cpp mfcView.cpp stdafx.cpp Now, I'm unable to find a Designer. There is no View Designer. I've opened all the above *.cpp and in the code editor right clicked to see "Designer View". ToolBox is just empty because I'm in code editor mode. When I built the project. This is the window I get. How to open a designer?

• How can I most accurately calculate the execution time of an ASP.NET page while also displaying it o

  I want to calculate the execution time of my ASP.NET pages and display it on the page. Currently I'm calculating the execution time using a System.Diagnostics.Stopwatch and then store the value in a log database. The stopwatch is started in OnInit and stopped in OnPreRenderComplete. This seems to be working quite fine, and it's giving a similar execution time as the one shown in the page trace. The problem now is that I'm not able to display the execution time on the page because the stopwatch is stopped too late in the life cycle. What is the best way to do this?

  I have a table as follows: CREATE TABLE `zonetimes` ( `id` int(11) unsigned NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT, `zone_id` int(10) unsigned NOT NULL, `active_from_day` tinyint(1) unsigned NOT NULL DEFAULT '2', `active_to_day` tinyint(1) unsigned NOT NULL DEFAULT '2', `active_from` time NOT NULL, `active_to` time NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY (`id`) ) ENGINE=MyISAM ; So, a user could add a time entry starting on a particular day and time and ending on a particular day and time, eg: Between Monday 08:00 and Friday 18:00 or Between Thursday 15:00 and Tuesday 15:00 (Note the crossover at the end of the week). I need to query this data and determine if a zone is currently active (NOW(), DAYOFWEEK() etc)... This is turning out to be quite tricky. If I didn't have overlaps, eg: from 'Wednesday 8pm to Tuesday 4am' or from 'Thursday 4pm to Tuesday 4pm' this would be easy with BETWEEN. Also, need to allow a user to add for the entire week, eg: Monday 8am - Monday 8am (This should be easy enough, eg: where (active_from_day=active_to_day AND active_from=active_to) OR .. Any ideas? Note: I found a similar question here Timespan - Check for weekday and time of day in mysql but it didn't get an answer. One of the suggestions was to store each day as a separate row. I would much rather store one time span for multiple days though.

• Printing and exporting from Crystal Reports Viewer throws error

  I'm using the .net Crystal Reports viewer to display a report. This works properly, but when I click on the print option, and then click "OK" on the options popup, I get the following error: Access is denied. Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code. Exception Details: System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException: Access is denied. And the same thing when I try to export. I'm running this on the Visual Studio development server, VS2008. What can I do to correct this?

• How do I prevent qFatal() from aborting the application?

  My Qt application uses Q_ASSERT_X, which calls qFatal(), which (by default) aborts the application. That's great for the application, but I'd like to suppress that behavior when unit testing the application. (I'm using the Google Test Framework.) I have by unit tests in a separate project, statically linking to the class I'm testing. The documentation for qFatal() reads: Calls the message handler with the fatal message msg. If no message handler has been installed, the message is printed to stderr. Under Windows, the message is sent to the debugger. If you are using the default message handler this function will abort on Unix systems to create a core dump. On Windows, for debug builds, this function will report a _CRT_ERROR enabling you to connect a debugger to the application. ... To supress the output at runtime, install your own message handler with qInstallMsgHandler(). • WN server filter won't work

  WN servers have an alternative to cgi programs called filters. I have been trying to get one to work, but I have had no luck. I am writing in python. It looks like the server is not receiving any output from the program but is parsing nothing and wrapping this nothing in my standard header and footer. I have chmod 755 the program and my index.wn file reads: Default-Attributes=parse Default-Wrappers=templates/template1.inc File=includeTests.html File=index.html File=archives.html File=contact.html File=style.css File=testProgram.py #here is the stuff about the filter File=testFilter.html Content-type=text/html Filter=testProgram.py Attributes=parse, cgi here is what is in the filter called testProgram.py: #!/usr/bin/python print "Content-Type: text/html\n\n" print "hi" testProgram.py works perfectly if it is shoved into a cgi-bin folder and chmoded. I suppose my problem may lay with the fact that I have never ever seen a filter program in python. I'm not sure I have even seen a filter program at all. Does anyone out there have any experience with wn servers and filters? Any ideas?

• C++ Initialize array in constructor EXC_BAD_ACCESS

Any idea what I'm doing wrong? • Alternatives to Java bytecode instrumentation

  I'm starting a project that will have to instrument java applications for coverage purposes (definition-usage of variables, etc). It has to add trace statements and some logic to the application and maybe remove statements. I have searched for ways of instrument Java code and what I always find is about bytecode instrumentation. My question is: It's the only way to instrument Java applications? There is any other way to do that? What are the advantages of bytecode instrumentation over the others? I'll probably use the bytecode solution, but I want to know what are the problems with the other approaches (if any) to decide precisely. Thanks!

  I am getting the exception: The type initializer for 'my class' threw an exception. in my browser after running my web application. Since this seems to be an error message generated from the view (.aspx), there is no way I can see the stack trace or any log for the source of this error. I have read a bit around the net and one solution to debugging is to throw a TypeInitializationException and then looking at the inner exception to find out what was wrong. How can I do this when I don't know where to surround code with a try/catch ?

  I have an application which uses a custom title bar. However, when my application launches, I noticed that the default title bar is shown for a brief period of time. My problem is I don't want to show the default title bar while my application is loading. How do I hide the title bar while my application is loading so that there will be no hint of it and then show it afterwards? So far, I tried the following solutions but none have worked: Hide the title bar in XML and then set the custom title bar in code. (Problem encountered: I received an error message saying: "You cannot combine custom titles with other title features".) • Is there any real world reason to use throw ex?

  In C#, throw ex is almost always wrong, as it resets the stack trace. I just wonder, is there any real world use for this? The only reason I can think of is to hide internals of your closed library, but that's a really weak reason. Apart from that, I've never encountered in the real world. Edit: I do mean throw ex, as in throwing the exact same exception that was caught but with an empty stacktrace, as in doing it exactly wrong. I know that throw ex has to exist as a language construct to allow throwing a different exception (throw new DifferentException("ex as innerException", ex)) and was just wondering if there is ever a situration where a throw ex is not wrong.

• Nested for loop error with !null checking an element that doesn't exist

  I am currently using nested for loops in a 2D array of size 4,2. When I run my program, I get index out of bounds Exception on the following line else if (state[i][j+1] != null && state[i][j].getFlash() <= state[i][j].getCycleLength() && state[i][j+1].getCycleLength() == state[i][j].getCycleLength()){ } It says the index out of bounds is 2. I would understand the error if I wasn't checking to see if [i][j+1] wasn't null, but I don't understand the exception with the check? I tried moving around the !null check but the program still fails on this line. Any help would be greatly appreciated. • SQL Server Service Broker Service Disappearing (Automatically Deleted)?

  I've implemented a messaging system over SQL Server Service Broker. It is working great, with the sole exception that every once in a while (maybe once per week per server) my initiator service just vanishes without a trace. The corresponding queue is still there, but the service is missing. Obviously this causes problems in my system. It's a simple matter to recreate the service by hand, but I'm confused as to what might cause this behavior. I understand that automatic poison message handling causes queues to be disabled, but I don't see anything that indicates services can be disabled or deleted automatically. When this happens, I usually have a large backlog of messages in multiple application queues, but nothing extreme. Total message backlog is around 200,000. Does anyone know what might be happening here?

• Update Options on Existing jQuery Object

  I'm using Bootstrap and DataTables in my app and I have a default initializer for tables based on class. I can just add the class data-table to the table and it gets instantiated with the default values I want. But I'd like to be able to update the aoColumnDefs on a table by table basis so I can add other columns that I don't want sorted. So let's say I have a table: $('#member-list'), how do I access this object and update it's datatables options in jQuery? I can't find any reference or help anywhere. Thanks a lot! -V
