• How to connect to Google App Engine server in internal network iMac?

  I have 3 iMacs and a Windows machine on my home network, all connected via an Airport Extreme router. I'm developing Google App Engine applications locally on one of the iMacs, and can view applications using http://localhost:8080 (or whatever port I choose). How do I connect to those applications from other iMacs and Windows machines in my network? I've located the IP for the iMac hosting Google App Engine: 10.0.1.7. But when I try http://10.0.1.7:8080 from another machine it will not load the page.

  Does anyone know if it's possible to control the font size on videos played in the built-in iPhone video player? The subtitles (or "Closed Captions") that are there by default are rather small. • Intermittent timeout when connecting to Sql Server, what do I look for?

  Sql Server 2008 Standard 64bit on Windows Server 2008 R2 virtual machine hosted on a Hyper-V server. I'm getting intermittent timeouts when connecting to the server. This happens for both windows and Sql Authentication. May timeout every 2 out of 5 tries in different applications. When the connection times out, I can see (in Profiler) that no connection was made. Firewall is holey, server port is static (good ol' 1433). If I ping /t the server I get a steady connection that wavers between 1 and 2 ms. Any ideas what else to try would be appreciated, thanks.

• What is the best way to setup a heartbeat agent for failover between two VMs?

  I have two VMs in VirtualBox that use NAT for their network adapters. They are both getting the same IP address, so I will need to reconfigure that; but knowing that, is it possible to set up a heartbeat agent to failover an apache server if one of the two VMs go down? The way I pictured it would be that the webserver would be able to be accessed externally via :80. No matter what VM was running, I would be able to access the website at that IP/port since failover would be setup. I'm running into trouble setting up IPs when the network adapters are set to NAT, and people have told me that I shouldn't be setting the IPs in this configuration. So what should I do to achieve what I'm looking for? Is it even feasible?

• How to tell if my sound card is listed in Device Manager?

  The sound on my computer suddenly stopped working. When I check Sounds and Audio Devices in the Control Panel, I get "No Audio Device" with everything grayed out. When I check the Device Manager under "Sound, video and game controllers" I see the following list: Audio Codecs Legacy Audio Drivers Legacy Video Capture Devices Media Control Devices MPU-401 Compatible MIDI Device Standard Game Port Video Codecs None of these looks like my sound card. Of course, my sound "card" is not really a sound card, it's integrated with the nVidia-nForce motherboard. I'm running Windows XP. So is one of the above my sound device, or is the OS not detecting it? If the latter, how do I get it to detect it?

• gevent with Django as daemon

  I've been developing an app using django_socketio (a python port of the Node equivalent), which relies on gevent. It ships with a Django management command that runs gevent's pywsgi server, but that of course stops when I close my terminal window, just like Django's dev server. This is a proof of concept, and there's no expectation that it would hold up in a production environment, but I'd like to have the server at least "permanently" process HTTP requests, so I don't need to manually start the dev server in order to demo. I'm assuming I need to run this as a daemon process, but prior to this I've only used apache and mod_wsgi, so unsure of where to begin, or even how I would go about starting a daemon. I found gevent-spawn, which looks promising, but it's unclear to me how that code is executed. Basically, how would I use gevent to serve a Django app in a setting without manually starting/stopping the server?

• View Security Server and Direct Connection

  I have a Security Server for my connections from the Internet. This works fine, accept when I enable "Direct Connection to the desktop". I found the following statement on this: If you bypass the secure connection, the client must establish a direct RDP communication to the desktop virtual machine over RDP (port 3389). Does this mean I have to open 3389 (RDP) to the Internet if I want to use Direct Connections? If I disable Direct Connections to get my Security Server working, I have to disable it on my Connection Server. It's my understanding that this means that if I reboot my Connection Server, all the View clients get disconnected. Is there a way I can disable "Direct Connections" for the Security Server, while enabling it for access from the LAN? Tia.

  I recently built a new Core i5 system with Windows 7 Professional. I had planned to hook up my TVS MSP 250 XL printer using a USB to parallel cable Once I plug the cable in, Windows 7 recognizes it as an IEEE-1284 controller and automatically installs the appropriate driver. However, in the status window it reports the following: "USB Printing Support -- Ready to use" "No Printer Attached -- Ready to use" When I then go ahead and manually add the printer using the "virtual printer port for USB" I can add the printer seemingly without problem. Once finished, it appears in the Devices and Printers panel. Yet, all attempts to print on this printer fail. It appears that simply no data is sent to the printer (either by programs like word or adobe or by attempting to print a test page. Does anybody know how to fix this?

  I'm using IIRF and having some trouble getting it to redirect all traffic to the secure version of my sites. So... I have a website with about 20 apps in virtual directories in IIS6. The website takes 80 and 443 traffic. I want to use IIRF to redirect all port 80 traffic EG; http://myserver/app1/page1/param1 http://myserver/app2/ http://myserver To the secure equivalent (https). • View apache server across virtual machine?

  I installed VirtualBox on my Windows 7 machine. Through VirtualBox, I installed Ubuntu 9.10 with apache2. I can view http://localhost from Ubuntu, but is there anyway I can view it from my windows machine too? i.e. run the apache server on ubuntu, and view it from windows? I figured it would open a port or something that would be visible to my whole computer regardless of its virtualness, but I guess not. How do I get around this?

• Wamp server won't run [closed]

  win xp sp3 I installed wamp 2.2 and after starting it was allways orrange and offline. Clicking on "Put Online" I got the error: wampserver aestan tray menu - could not execute menu item (internal error)... Somewhere I found the advice to change httpd.conf file (Listen 80 - to Listen 8080) Now, mouseover try icon shows that server is online, but it is still orrange, and click on localhost shows: Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at localhost. Skype is not running and inside Skype options "Use port 80 and 443 as alternatives for incoming connections" is unchecked. A couple of months ago I was able to run wamp normaly. Could someone help, pls.

  I am using few USB hardwares like camera and scanners with my software application. I plugged my hardware in USB A installed the drivers and the device was working properly. Now I tried to connect the same hardware in USB B (ie, some other USB port), and again it is asking for the driver installation. I need to know the reason behind this. Is it something to do with the particular device or system? Anywork around for this during the first time driver installation? • How do you pick what server setup you need?

  I recently started receiving pubsub data feed from etsy. It averages around 250 notifications per minute. But obviously, when the USA wakes up that spikes quite heavily. I want to be able to deal with those spikes (about 3 per day) but the rest of day is fine. What's the best method of getting the right server configuration. • iptables, allow access from certain MAC addresses

  Presently, I limit which clients can access my server by using IP addresses via iptables, only approved IP addresses can connect. However, the problem with this is if a client is on a laptop and goes to a different location, they can no longer connect because the IP has changed. For a variety of reasons, iptables authentication is the only option I have. Is there a way to restrict access by device instead of ip address. For instance, only allow certain MAC address to connect to port 5000. Is it possible to do this via iptables? Note, the computers are not on the same network, they could be connecting from anywhere in the world.

• Connect macbook to my LAN through a VPN - best solution? [closed]

  So I have a LAN connected via a ADSL/PPPoA, this is using a bog-standard DLink router supplied by my ISP (talktalk UK). I have a NAS within the LAN that is running FreeNAS and I want to be able to connect to it when I'm out and about. It's running an atom so it's quite low on juice consumption but I don't want to have it on all day and night so I've been waking it via a magic packet and booting it down from the web admin when I need it. So I want to connect to the LAN, I presume via a VPN, to be able to send a magic packet. But what is the best method to accomplish this, or is there an easier way? I've been looking at the cisco 857 integrated router and the Netgear prosafe 318(behind modem) but not sure If I'm on the right track with what I want to achieve as I've not much experience or knowledge with VPN's or networking (software engineering student). I have tried port forwarding but to no avail, either with magic packets or even connecting outside the LAN via DYNDNS. Thanks,

• Is a "Soft Modem" (i.e. internal) really going to cause incompatibilities?

  Thanks to the fact that our banking industry in Australia... outdated (which is the politest word I could think of when describing the banking industry)... to do a certain kind of transaction our bank requires us to use a dialup modem and send serial data to them. When reading through their documentation (last update: 1995), they state that any "Soft Modems" (by which I assume they mean internal modems, as they refer to a AMR socket on a motherboard, which I haven't seen in donkeys years) should not be used because of "possible incompatibilities" Seeing as buying an external, serial-port modem is actually quite expensive these days and I have a whole box of PCI modems taken out of a bunch of Dells I really don't want to have to buy an external modem. Additionally I think their documentation is simply outdated. Has anyone had experience with internal modems causing issues, where an external modem didn't?

  I compiled GCC 4.4.3 and installed it in /usr/local/bin, but whenever I install a port via MacPorts 1.8.2 the verbose output says MacPorts is using /usr/bin/gcc-4.2: checking for gcc... /usr/bin/gcc-4.2 How do I make MacPorts find my own GCC 4.4.3? • Nginx Virtual Host upstream error

  I'm trying to add another virtual host and it keeps giving me this: host not found in upstream "domain1" error, even though I have changed the upstream from domain1 to something else in my sites-enabled file. It used to be domain1, but it's almost as if nginx is caching this value somewhere. This is what my sites-available/mysite.com file looks like: upstream mysite { server 127.0.0.1:5000; } server { listen 80; server_name www.mysite.com; rewrite ^/(.*)$ http://mysite.com/$1 permanent; } } And my thin server is running on port 5000 for this.

  Hi guys, i am using this line to configure MySQL 5.1 MySQLInstanceConfig.exe -i -q -lmysql_config.log ServerType=SERVER DatabaseType=MIXED ConnectionUsage=DSS Port=3306 AddBinToPath=yes ConnectionCount=10 SkipNetworking=no StrictMode=no RootPassword=password it configures the server and the service is started fine, but the StrictMode is enabled even though i am disabling it in the configuration above... if i look at my.ini i find Set the SQL mode to strict sql-mode="STRICT_TRANS_TABLES,NO_AUTO_CREATE_USER,NO_ENGINE_SUBSTITUTION" which i think is not supposed to be there... am doing anything wrong? i am using the parameter wrong? • Manipulating Exchange 2003 shared contacts folder remotely

  I've got a CRM web app running on a remote server that needs to synchronise it's contacts with the in-house Exchange 2003 shared contacts. Exchange 2003 doesn't appear to support web services. What would the typical approach to this problem be? My initial instinct would be to open port 80 on the Exchange server, run a simple webserver, POST to it and then control Exchange via OLE automation scripting (if that's what people are still calling it!) but there might be a better solution I'm not aware of. Any suggestions?

• Personal Archive not Visible in Outlook

  I just added a second user to my Exchange 2010 box, it is in coexistence with exc2003. My account is already set up and working with a personal archive folder. The user I just set up however is unable to see the archive in Outlook. It is visible in OWA but not outlook. I have created a test profile on my PC with the users account and still no archive, if I jump back to my profile on the same box the archive is there so I know it is not an office versions issue. UPDATE: I have deleted all profiles from Outlook (one of which worked with the archive) now any new profiles including my own no longer show up. I think I have broken something In exchange. I get an auto discover certificate error which I am in the process of fixing. Perhaps the 2 problems are related. Also OWA on this server runs on a custom SSL port.

• USB HD Freezes Windows Explorer

  I recently purchased a "Seagate STBX1000200 1TB Expansion 2.5 inch External Hard Drive". It has been working without problems until recently. When i plug the device into a USB port the device is recognised as it appears in the device manager but when i go to Windows Explorer and try to open it (or right click on it) it hangs/freezes windows explorer. Please note i am using Windows 7 Professional. I have already tried various things without success after searching for people with similar problems. I did read that it could be a problem with how the computer assigns a drive letter. But whrn i go to disk management (when running as an administrator) it hangs and displays the following message: Connecting to virtual disk service I'd appreciate it if anyone could offer some advice. • Can you use a DVI-VGA Adapter on a monitor instead of a video card?

  I suspect the answer to this is "no", but here goes: I have a monitor with inputs for DVI and VGA. I want to be able to share this display with two computers (one at a time, of course) that both have VGA only. I also have a DVI-VGA dongle that came with a video card that's in a different computer. Can I connect this dongle directly to the DVI port on the monitor so that I can connect both VGA computers? I'd rather not resort to a kvm.
