• How do I permanently delete e-mail messages in the sendmail queue and keep them from coming back?

  I have a pretty annoying problem here. I have been testing an application and have created some test e-mails to bogus e-mail addresses (not to mention that my server isn't really set up to send e-mail anyway). Of course, sendmail is not able to send these messages and they have been getting stuck in the sendmail queue. I want to manually delete the messages that have been building up in the queue instead of waiting the 5 days that sendmail usually takes to stop retrying. I am using Ubuntu 10.04 and /var/spool/mqueue/ is the directory in which every how-to I have read says the e-mails that are queued up are kept. When I delete the files in this directory, sendmail stops trying to process the e-mails until what appears to be a cron script runs and re-populates this directory with the messages I don't want sent. • Change the format of the date column in Thunderbird

  I want to change the format of the "Date"-column in the messagelist in Thunderbird. For mails from today, I want to display only the time, not the date. For mails from before today, I want to display only the date, not the time. This is the same setup mutt uses. I know of the Date display format wiki article, which describes how to change the date format, but you can only switch between five predefined formats, and none of them is "Date only". I also know of the ConfigDate extension, but it's got the same limitations, you can't define a new date format.

• How can I get the real Emailaddress of a recipient?

  a user in out Company has 2 mail-addresses on one Exchange-Mailbox. e.g test@... and test1@... the Primary SMTP-address off the Mailbox is test@. If I send a message to test1@, load it using EWS and parse through the TORecipients-Collection there is exactly one emailadress. But the mailaddress EWS gives to me is test@... and not test1@... where I sent the mail. My problem is, that all mails sent to test@ should be imported in our CRM using my program. All mails sent to test1@... must not be imported. In real life both mailaddresses are from my Boss. One is used for normal purposes the other one is for confidential e.g. from his lawyer. Does anyone know how I can get the real-emailaddress the message was sent to?

What I am looking at is there any tool which will help me in binding all these documents so that I may be able to virtually bind all these documents of a particular client. • DKIM on postfix relay server

  I have a postfix/amavis relay server, with the domain name mail.example.com. It will be a relay for dozens of VPSs, which will have domains like hostname.example.net. So i have actually two questions. Is it possible to dkim sing the mails originating from the VPSs over the postfix relay on the relay server? Or have the mails to be signed on the VPSs where they are actually from? • Is there software that will help me convert my PST files into a searachable web archive?

  I have used POP3 for many and many years and always used PST files for back-up purposes. I'd like to be able to create a searchable mail archive of this 12GB worth of e-mail. I had used Horde + Qmail for a while for searching e-mail, but it was truly horrible and even extremely slow when searching into a few ten thousands of e-mails, let alone more than a million. I would prefer a free solution that would provide fast searching through historical e-mails. Also, preferably hosted on a server, so I don't have to worry about backing up any more crucial data on my desktop.

• How to Setup Ubuntu Mail Server with Google Apps?

  I have a domain, let's call it foobar.com. All of the MX records for foobar.com point to Google's mail servers because I am using Google Apps for your domain to manage it. It's great because everyone gets all the advantages of GMail, but our e-mail addresses aren't @gmail.com. I also have a server. Primarily, it's a web server, but it also serves other things. One of the things it serves is the web site for foobar.com and also sites for various virtual hosts such as shop.foobar.com and forum.foobar.com. The server is running Ubuntu 8.04, because I like using LTS releases in production. The thing is, there are various applications running on the server that need the ability to send out emails. Various applications, like the cron jobs, send me e-mails in case of errors. Some of the web applications need to send e-mail to users when they forget their passwords, to confirm new registered users, etc. Lastly, it's nice to be able to send e-mail from the command line using the mail command, or mutt. How can I setup the mail on the web server to go through the Google apps mail servers? I don't need the web server to receive mail, though that would be cool. I do need it to be able to send mail as any legitimate address @foobar.com. That way the forum application can send mails with [email protected] in the from field, and the ecommerce application will have [email protected] in the from field. Also, by sending the mail through the Google servers, we can avoid a lot of the problems with the e-mails being blocked by various spam filters on the web. Google's SMTP servers are trusted a lot more than mine would be. I'm pretty good with administering Linux systems, but I am absolutely brain dead when it comes to e-mail. I need step by step directions from beginning to end on how to set this up. I need to know every thing to install, and every single change to the configuration files that is necessary. I have tried following various howtos and guides in the past, but none of them were quite right. Either they didn't work at all, or they offered a configuration that is not what I wanted.   I am using CentOs5 and postfix as an MTA for my server. My situation is as follows:- I have a mail server through which Php applications connect and send mails to the destination addresses. The problem is that the the application servers do not have spf/dkim record set up and my server which actually relays the mails to the network has spf/dkim records. So i want the mail sent by an application having a return address:[email protected] to change to [email protected]. r09.4reseller.org is hostname of my mail server. This i have done by generic mapping in postfix: smtp_generic_maps = hash:/etc/postfix/generic In /etc/postfix/generic: [email protected] [email protected] This is working as return address is changed to [email protected] when mail is sent. But when i try to sent mail on [email protected] I don't get mail on [email protected]. I have tried virtual mapping in postfix i.e by the file /etc/postfix/virtual but its not helping.

• SQL Server 2012 and SQLMail - will it still work?

  We are considering upgrading our SQL Server, which is currently running 2005. We use SQLMail heavily in the organization, both to send e-mails and to import some into a database. I've read on various places that SQLMail was deprecated and superseded by "Database Mail". I'm confused because this MS page: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb402904.aspx seems to imply that it would still work? I understand the dangers of SQLMail but we do not have the resources to rewrite the scripts right now and would prefer to do it later on. Does SQLMail still work in 2012, and if not, how easy is it to replace with Database Mail, both for reading and sending e-mails?

  We have SBS 2003, and we use DYNDNS. We forward dyndns address 443 to local server ip 443 port. mycompany.dyndns.org:443 -- server.mycompany.local:443 In android phone i can check my mails with Outlook Active Snyc. From remote machine i can check my mails in owa (https://mycompany.dyndns.org/exchange) But i can't set up outlook 2013 to remote connect. I installed server.mycompany.local to remote machine trusted cert container, but i got error message: "There is a problem with the proxy server's security certificate. The name on the security certificate is invalid or does not match the name of the target site. Outlook is unable to connect to the proxy server. (Error Code 10)" Is it possible to connect exchange, via dnydns? Whats the problem? Thank you

  Hi, I have been asked to send about 6500 e-mails to addresses in a member database. I have written the program, that sends and reports the ones that couldn't send etc. But my concern is that this program will just call smtpclient.Send(); and I don't know what happens if 6000 mails are in the queue. Server is MS Exchange as I have been told. Note: I am planning to send them, say 500 by 500. But what if an exception occurs on the Exchange server at 120... then what happens to the other ones.. I will appreciate little insight to the subject. Thanks in advance.

What I'd like to do is to monitor the email sent by the application. For this I need a dummy SMTP server which intercepts messages but won't send them further but save them locally on the hard disk. I've already found some of them like Papercut, SMTP4Dev. The problem with these that I have to be logged on the server all the time which is not suitable because the server has only 2+1 TS connections. I like to run a program like these as a windows service and check the mails when I need them.

• Blackberry keeps sending notifications of FB and emails [closed]

  Here is the problem I got with my blackberry : I have received and sent multiple mails this week-end from my home computer. As usual, I received the notifications of sent and received emails on my blackberry, and archived / deleted them. But, I still receive the notifications of new mails several times a day, for emails I already have deleted in my Gmail account. I tried rebooting the blackberry (alt+shift+del) and removing the battery, but nothing helps, the notifications are sent and re-sent, no matter what I do. Anyone has an advice on how to stop this spam, as it is becoming very annoying ?

  Please check this image, it's a screenshot from plesk 10 of 1 domains mail traffic: This domain has about 1GB POP3/IMAP (OUT) traffic each day. I know that this is not normal because I know the owner and how he's using his mail. It's just some mails each day. Is OUT in this case incomming mails to the domain owner? or is it OUTgoing imap traffic? I have about 30 domains on this machine, but this one is the only one making so much traffic. How can I check whats happening there? Can I check which email adress makes the most of this traffic? Can I try to swich off Imap for just this domain?

  Is it possible to change the message-id in postfix? If I send Mails over an Java-Application I get the following message-id: message-id=<143303043.111334605578921.JavaMail.applicationanme@hostname> So I want that the message-id looks like this: message-id=<[email protected]> What I can understand, if I send mails with the Linux program mail it works: message-id=<[email protected]> I have already set my hostname in the postfix-conf, but when I send a mail with the java-application it doen't work. We use a relay host to send email and any messages which are sent without @domain.tld in the mail-id will detected as a spam mail. Do you have any idea how I can fix this?

• How can I set Qmail to relay all mail to one address

  I'm new to qmail it's setup and working like it should. I need to set it to do something a bit different. I need it to take all mail that would be incoming to it and relay all of that to one address as opposed to whatever address they could have possibly set it to. The idea is we have setup a test enviroment and we want no e-mails from a test server to actually go out to real people so this relay server will catch all of that outgoing mail and throw it into a test e-mail account inbox to check for errors and so forth. I'm honestly not sure if this is even possible so if it's not let me know now so I can come up with a different method to manage all these test e-mails. Thanks

• 20GB+ worth of emails in my /home what is a better solution for that?

  My email storage requirements are outgrowing anything reasonable with respect to local mail storage. As we speak 99% of my home partition is filled with personal mail in Thunderbirds mail dirs. Needless to say, this is just painful, badly searchable and as history has proven me that backups work, but Thunderbird is capable of loosing a lot of mail very easily. Currently I have an remote IMAPS server (Dovecot) running for my daily mail, accessible from anywhere, which from my own practice works efficiently up to about 1000 emails. Then some archive directories should be used to move mail around. I have been looking into DBMail, but I wonder if I make my case worse or better which such solution. None of the supported database employ string deduplication or string compression out of the box, so is this going to help me with 20GB+ mail? What about falling back to a plain old IMAP server? A filesystem like ZFS would support stuff like GZIP transparently, which could help. Could someone share their thoughts? The 20GB mostly consists of mailinglists, and normal mail. Not things like attachments. To add some clarifications; As we speak, my mail is not server side indexed at all - only my new mail arrives at a remote IMAP server. It is all local storage from former POP3 accounts, local mirrored Gmail and IMAP accounts. In my perspective it is not Thunderbird that sucks, its fileformat that sucks. Regarding the 1000 mails. On the road I am using Alpine and MobileMail, quite happy with both of them, but some management is required to actually manage the mail. Sieve helps a lot with that, but browing through 10.000 e-mails is not fun, especially not on a mobile client. I am quite happy with Dovecot, never had any issues with it. I just wonder if this is the way to go. Or if there are any other better solutions. What my question is: what is the best practice solution that allows 20GB+ mails and is -on demand remotely accessible, easy to backup and archive worthy. It doesn't need to be available 24x7. • Setup mail server on VPS?

  This is a n00b question, sorry. I have a site running on a VPS, now I want to be able to receive mails at [email protected]. How do I need to set up the server? And how should I set up the mail client on my PC to receive those mails? The server is running CentOS/RHEL. I'll really appreciate if someone shed some light on the steps that need to be taken.
