    There are a lot of abbreviations on the emacs status bar and no good way to decode them. This article was the most helpful. I could not find the word "status bar" in the Emacs manual. Does anyone know where I could find descriptions of how that status bar works?

  • Workflow for statistical analysis and report writing

    Does anyone have any wisdom on workflows for data analysis related to custom report writing? The use-case is basically this: Client commissions a report that uses data analysis, e.g. a population estimate and related maps for a water district. The analyst downloads some data, munges the data and saves the result (e.g. adding a column for population per unit, or subsetting the data based on district boundaries). The analyst analyzes the data created in (2), gets close to her goal, but sees that needs more data and so goes back to (1). Rinse repeat until the tables and graphics meet QA/QC and satisfy the client. Write report incorporating tables and graphics. Next year, the happy client comes back and wants an update. This should be as simple as updating the upstream data by a new download (e.g. get the building permits from the last year), and pressing a "RECALCULATE" button, unless specifications change. At the moment, I just start a directory and ad-hoc it the best I can. I would like a more systematic approach, so I am hoping someone has figured this out... I use a mix of spreadsheets, SQL, ARCGIS, R, and Unix tools. Thanks! PS: Below is a basic Makefile that checks for dependencies on various intermediate datasets (w/ ".RData" suffix) and scripts (".R" suffix). Make uses timestamps to check dependencies, so if you 'touch ss07por.csv', it will see that this file is newer than all the files / targets that depend on it, and execute the given scripts in order to update them accordingly. This is still a work in progress, including a step for putting into SQL database, and a step for a templating language like sweave. Note that Make relies on tabs in its syntax, so read the manual before cutting and pasting.     I'm trying to create a tool which will help my team perform code reviews on a more regular basis without it's usual massive overhead. At the moment the manual process involves using Team Foundation Sidekicks to identify the Changesets and then exporting that to excel to filter the results to find which items need to be reviewed (e.g. code files). I've heard mention of using a TFS API, but found very little help online possibly because I was asking google 'the wrong questions'.

A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share. When I copied the file manual everything worked normally. Is it correct the order File.Copy leaves the file engaged?

I know I can run rake doc:app manually, but I really don't feel like adding a manual step to the check-in process, and since we're already using cruisecontrolrb to handle deployment and testing automation, it seems like there should be an easy way to regenerate these files on check-in. Is anyone already automating rake doc:app? And, if so, what are your suggestions?

Then, after that work is finished, I would like to update only content inside UpdatePanel, but without pressing any buttons etc. I should be done automatically using JavaScript when previously started AJAX work finishes.   • iPhone GUI for real-time log message display

A certain limit will be set on the log messages so that older messages are pruned. I'm thinking about implementing using a UITextView with a NSMutableString to store the output. I would have to perform manual pruning somehow on the NSMutableString object. Is a better way to implement this?

    I'm using preg_replace_callback to substitute particular tokens within the string. But apart from actual token I need to know as well whether that token was first, second or third in a subject string. Is there any way to access that info? I found an argument $count in preg_replace_callback definition (http://php.net/manual/en/function.preg-replace-callback.php), which counts replacements, but I'm not sure if it is accessible from within callback. Any example of the usage in described context?

So far I've been muddling along with Firebug, but it's quite a bit of effort using that, and I would prefer some form of scriptable tool, both to make it easier for me and to allow an automated regression test. Any recommendations?

I read the manual and get .dll's compiled, but that's all - "interfaces/python" contains only some .i and .cmake files. How can I really get new python interface? Where I can find new cv.pyd/libcv.dll.a (because a compiled version from official site crashes sometimes and I saw this bug as "fixed" in Trac)?
