  Most customers know that UPK produces both the word and excel based test scripts for UAT. Did you know that you can use UPK for QA review and bug tracking? To use UPK for QA, create content and assign it appropriately to authorized reviewers. Then have them open the developer, use customized views to find content assigned to them quickly and check out the topics. Then they can use the topic editor to review the content and provide comments right into the bubbles or use explanation frames. It makes QA-ing content this way easier than publishing and sending out .tpcs or docs for people to review. How about UPK for bug tracking? The hardest part about fixing bugs in software is reproducing the error! When you use UPK for bug tracking, it captures the exact steps the user took that gave them the error. Now development can easily walk through the process in a simulated environment to see what might have caused it, they have a documented procedure for what generated the error and they are able to better communicate with the LOB. Also, they can update or attach the simulation\documentation to any defect management software like bugzilla or something similar -all thanks to UPK.

  A while ago (probably a decade ago, actually) I saw a report on a tracking system maintained by a U.S. Army artillery control unit.  This system was capable of maintaining a bearing on various units in the field to help avoid friendly fire.  I consider the U.S. Army to be the most technologically advanced fighting force on Earth, but to my terror I saw something on the title bar of an application displayed on a laptop behind one of the soldiers they were interviewing: Tracking.mdb Oh yes.  Microsoft Office Suite had made it onto the battlefield.  My hope is that it was just running as a front-end for a more proficient database (no offense Access people), or that the soldier was tracking something else like KP duty or fantasy football scores.  But I could also see the corporate equivalent of a pointy-haired boss walking into a cube and asking someone who had piddled with Access to build a database for HR forms.  Except this pointy-haired boss would have been a general, the cube would have been a tank, and the HR forms would have been targets that, if something went amiss, would have been hit by a 500lb artillery round. Hope that solider could write a good query

• Setting up a Google Analytics Campaign

  I will be doing a bunch of things to give one of my projects (main app) a big initial push for which I will be building a few small Facebook apps which will help in promoting the main apps. Traffic from these apps need to be tracked individually. My main app will be posting on the walls when the user needs to be notified. Traffic from these posts need to be tracked. Traffic from emails sent by the main app need to be tracked, like different types of email. I need to track all of these & possibly a couple of more but I need to be sure that I build my campaign URLs correctly as I won't get another chance to fix it. Correct me where I am wrong: Campaign Name: Launch Campaign Medium: Email Campaign Source: Type1 or Type2 (I can break it down for different types of email, right?) For apps: Campaign Name: Launch Campaign Medium: Apps Campaign Source: App1 or App2 (I can break it down here for different apps, right?) What if I want to track two different links within a single email or a single app? Any way of tracking them individually too but still keeping to track them as one because tracking them as one makes more sense for me. Campaign Term & Campaign content is irrelevant in my case, or I can/should use them for something? And I will also be tracking traffic of different apps. Should I do more? Let me know if my scenario wasn't clear enough & I need to explain more.

• Google Analytics: Do unique events report as unique visits when triggered on pages other than your own domain?

  We just recently attached a SWF to our Brightcove video player to report various events back to Google Analytics. We're also tracking page views with a standard GA snippet on the page where the player is embedded. As I understand it, because a unique has already been recorded for the page, any event being triggered by the player is getting associated with that unique. However, we allow people to embed the video player on other websites. All of the event data started pouring into the Events section as expected, but we noticed a dramatic uptick in unique visitors on the site (nearly double) while the pageview count stayed relatively unchanged. Disabling event tracking brought the traffic back down to average levels. I should also add that in the Pages section of Event tracking we're seeing URLs for other sites where the player has been embedded; but this data isn't showing up in the Content section. It seems counterintuitive, but does GA count an event fired as a unique visit even if it's triggered from some place other than your website? Is so, there any way to trigger an event in the events section without it reporting to the unique visitor count?

• Openlayers - Redraw() layer. Add / Remove layer.

  TLDR: I have an Openlayers map with a layer called 'track' I want to remove track and add track back in. I have an image 'imageFeature' on a layer that rotates on load to the direction being set. I want it to update this rotation that is set in 'styleMap' on a layer called 'tracking'. I set the var 'stylemap' to apply the external image & rotation. The 'imageFeature' is added to the layer at the coords specified. 'imageFeature' is removed. 'imageFeature' is added again in its new location. Rotation is not applied.. As the 'styleMap' applies to the layer I think that I have to remove the layer and add it again rather than just the 'imageFeature' Layer: var tracking = new OpenLayers.Layer.GML("Tracking", "coordinates.json", { format: OpenLayers.Format.GeoJSON, styleMap: styleMap }); styleMap: var styleMap = new OpenLayers.StyleMap({ fillOpacity: 1, pointRadius: 10, rotation: heading, }); Now wrapped in a timed function the imageFeature: map.layers[3].addFeatures(new OpenLayers.Feature.Vector( new OpenLayers.Geometry.Point(longitude, latitude), {rotation: heading, type: parseInt(Math.random() * 3)} )); Type refers to a lookup of 1 of 3 images.: styleMap.addUniqueValueRules("default", "type", lookup); var lookup = { 0: {externalGraphic: "Image1.png", rotation: heading}, 1: {externalGraphic: "Image2.png", rotation: heading}, 2: {externalGraphic: "Image3.png", rotation: heading} } I have tried the 'redraw()' function: but it returns "tracking is undefined" or "map.layers[2]" is undefined. tracking.redraw(true); map.layers[2].redraw(true); Heading is a variable: from a JSON feed. var heading = 13.542; But so far can't get anything to work it will only rotate the image onload. If not, how can I get working cabal-install build with the patch from #517 without installing Cabal-0.9, which is currently mandatory (due to one patch from December)?

• Open and close trac tickets with a single commit

  I am looking for a way to add a post-commit or pre-commit hook to my VCS that will allow me to both create and close a trac ticket in one go. The use-case is for when a bug has been found, and corrected, but a single developer who wants to make sure the project manager can see the fix has been done, when it was done and what milestone the fix has been done in. We have a default milestone in trac when creating a ticket, so reflecting that information would be good too.

  Hi all, Im new to Redmine. I installed redmine(with mysql) on Ubuntu 10.04. The following were the installation steps i did: $ sudo apt-get install redmine redmine-mysql subversion $ ln -s /usr/share/redmine/public /var/www/redmine In /etc/apache2/mods-available/passenger.conf, added a PassengerDefaultUser www-data directive. Configured the /var/www/redmine location in /etc/apache2/sites-available/default: RailsBaseURI /redmine PassengerResolveSymlinksInDocumentRoot on $ sudo a2enmod passenger I then restarted the apache2 server. Thats it. Now i typed http://localhost/redmine/ in my browser and accessed my redmine instance. So from here on, how do i create different users with with different privileges, create different projects, also update the issues and other project management related stuff..... I know this sounds silly, but i couldnt find anythin to proceed....

• UFW as an active service on Ubuntu

  Every time I restart my computer, and check the status of the UFW firewall (sudo ufw status), it is disabled, even if I then enable and restart it. I tried putting sudo ufw enable as one of the startup applications but it asks for the sudo password every time I log on, and I'm guessing it does not protect anyone else who logs on my computer. How can I setup ufw so it is activated when I turn on my computer, and protects all accounts? Update I just tried /etc/init.d/ufw start, and it activated the firewall.   I have a project i am working on currently and would like to implement some sort of software tracking in the code. ideally, stuff like how often its launched. how long it runs for, feature tracking, etc. I already use Exceptioneer for unhandled exceptions, but would like something similar for usage tracking. this data should all be anonymous and ideally run as a service by someone else. and i would like to give the users the option to turn it off, if they so wish to... So, is this something i should implement myself, or are there third parties out there that do this sort of things? i know it might be a sticky area, but i have seen stats about iPhone app usage. they do it, so why cant we? (if the user agrees, of course) [Update] Based on the comments, i should have been more clear. this is a Winforms .NET 4. application, though i am thinking of updating it later with WCF. i would only be tracking my own application, though i would also want to know minor information about environment (Windows OS Version, SP, maybe proc and ram...)

So I just want to select all previous data to this date period and want to delete them. Later on the data will be copied in anyway. I have checked each n everything... One thing is that the code works fine on FF too only when i debug the page with firebug debugger. Otherwise the alert in ajax success shows itself with nothing in it... Help me... Goto link text Enter 6628 in the Ticket No. box under Update Complaint Status section... A new form will open. In that form press update... Try it in FF and IE... IE8 shows the results as needed but FF does not...

• Calculating and billing IP multicast usage on the Internet

  I've been searching for the reasons why IP multicast isn't widely supported on the Public Internet, and a commonly-cited reason is the difficulty ISPs have in tracking Multicast usage for later billing. Given this difficulty, since ISPs control the routers and they're not forced to support Multicast (as per IPv4), they just disable it. I couldn't find what this difficulty was though. Since an ISP has full control of any inbound and outbound traffic, be it Unicast or Multicast, what's the difficulty in tracking and billing the latter that does not exist in the former?
