  • How to compile x64 asp.net website?

    I'm trying to compile (using Visual Studio) an ASP.Net website with the Chilkat library. The compilation fails due to this error: Could not load file or assembly 'ChilkatDotNet2, Version=9.0.8.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=eb5fc1fc52ef09bd' or one of its dependencies. An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format. I've been told that this error occurs because of platform noncompliance. The weird thing is that although the compilation fails, the site works once accessed from a browser. My theory is that the IIS compilation uses csc.exe compiler from the Framework64 (64 bit) folder while the Visual Studio uses csc.exe compiler from the Framework (32 bit) folder. If this is acually it, how can I configure my Visual studio to run with the 64 bit compiler for ASP.Net sites? This is my current development configuration: Windows 7 (x64). Visual Studio 2008 Pro (x86 of course...). Chilkat library (x64) IIS/Asp.net (x64).

  • Installing drivers from NSIS installer in x64 system.

    I want to add support for x64 OSes to my NSIS installer. One of the installer's task is drivers installation. I've written a special NSIS plugin for this task. This plugin uses Driver Install Frameworks API (DIFxAPI) to install drivers. The problem is that this API does not work in WOW64. Is there any way to create x64 installer application with NSIS? Has anybody solved similar problem with NSIS? P.S.: The only solution I can see now is to run another application from the installer. This will be x64 executable that installs drivers. But this way seems somewhat harder to me. So, I'm interested in other solutions.

  • Visual Studio 2008 Build question x64 vs x86

    Hi Everyone, I have written an application on my x64 machine in Visual Stuido 2008. The application will be sent to someone, and I have two questions that I need answers to. What requirements will they need to have installed. I am assuming the .NET 3.5 redistributable. Are there anything else though? (The application does not call any external dependencies). This is my realy question that I can't find the answer to. I have developed and build the application on my x64 machine using the "Any CPU" option (as versus x64 or x86 specifically). Will this run on a 32 bit machine? (I don't have one to test). Or do I need to build it specifically for x86 in order to run it on a 32 bit machine? Many thanks, Brett

    I have a windows server 2008 R2 standard edition. The system suddenly stopped accepting remote desktop connections. When I tried to connect directly to the console, I am unable to start any applications. I got errors "The page file is to small to complete the action". Under takmanager in performance the system shows "Commit(GB) 127/127". What does this imply? The system has 32 GB ram, 5 raid disks each 150 Gb

  • Making the iPhone work with stripped down Windows XP

    Hi, this is my first time posting here and I have a really specific question. I have an ASUS eee 901 running Windows XP Home. I had everything working well, but then I decided to improve performance by moving Windows to the smaller but faster internal SSD. I used Nlite to strip down Windows, following the instructions here: http://wiki.eeeuser.com/howto:nlitexp I now have a very lightweight installation of XP home with SP3 and all the current updates. Almost everything is working really well. I have installed iTunes and I CAN sync with no problems. However, each time I plug in my iPhone 3GS (latest firmware), Windows tries and fails to install drivers. The Found New Hardware Wizard launches, but nothing I do will make it complete successfully, with the result that the iphone does not show up in Windows as removable storage, or as a camera. When I launch the Camera and Scanner Wizard, it shows only my webcam, not the iphone. I have verified that I have the following files in place: Windows\System32\ptpusb.dll (regsvr32 successful) Windows\System32\ptpusd.dll (entry point not found, can not be registered) Windows\System32\usbaaplrc.dll (entry point not found, can not be registered) Windows\System32\drivers\usbaapl.sys Windows\System32\drivers\usbscan.sys Windows\System32\drivers\usbstor.sys Does anyone know if some other file is required or if there's some other element preventing this from working? Edit (From posted answer) I did select Cameras & Camcorders, and my webcam is working fine for video & still capture.

  • Backup and Transfer Foobar2000 to a New Computer

    If you are a fan of Foobar2000 you undoubtedly have tweaked it to the point where you don’t want to set it all up again on a new machine. Here we look at how to transfer Foobar2000 settings to a new Windows 7 machine. Note: For this article we are transferring Foobar2000 settings from on Windows 7 machine to another over a network running Windows Home Server.  Foobar2000 Foobar2000 is an awesome music player which is highly customizable and we’ve previously covered. Here we take a look at how it’s set up on the current machine. It’s a nothing flashy, but is set up for our needs and includes a lot of components and playlists.   Backup Files Rather than wasting time setting everything up again on a new machine, we can backup the important files and replace them on the new machine. First type or copy the following into the Explorer address bar. %appdata%\foobar2000 Now copy all of the files in the folder and store them on a network drive or some type removable media or device. New Machine Now you can install the latest version of Foobar2000 on your new machine. You can go with a Standard install as we will be replacing our backed up configuration files anyway. When it launches, it will be set with all the defaults…and we want what we had back. Browse to the following on the new machine… %appdata%\foobar2000 Delete all of the files in this directory… Then replace them with the ones we backed up from the other machine. You’ll also want to navigate to C:\Program Files\Foobar2000 and replace the existing Components folder with the backed up one. When you get the screen telling you there is already files of the same name, select Move and Replace, and check the box Do this for the next 6 conflicts. Now we’re back in business! Everything is exactly as it was on the old machine. In this example, we were moving the Foobar2000 files from a computer on the same home network. All the music is coming from a directory on our Windows Home Server so they hadn’t changed. If you’re moving these files to a computer on another machine… say your work computer, you’ll need to adjust where the music folders point to. Windows XP If you’re setting up Foobar2000 on an XP machine, you can enter the following into the Run line. %appdata%\foobar2000 Then copy your backed up files into the Foobar2000 folder, and remember to swap out the Components folder in C:\Program Files\Foobar2000. Confirm to replace the files and folders by clicking Yes to All… Conclusion This method worked perfectly for us on our home network setup. There might be some other things that will need a bit of tweaking, but overall the process is quick and easy. There is a lot of cool things you can do with Foobar2000 like rip an audio CD to FlAC.   • How To Figure Out Your PC’s Host Name From the Command Prompt

    If you’re doing any work with networking, you probably need to know the name of your computer. Rather than diving into Control Panel, there’s a really simple way to do this from the command prompt. Note: If you haven’t already, be sure to read our complete guide to networking Windows 7 with XP and Vista. To see the hostname… all you have to do is type hostname at the command prompt. Go figure, eh? The same thing works in Linux or OS X, though you can see that most of the time the hostname is part of the prompt anyway. Note: you can also change the hostname by simply typing “hostname <newhostname>”. Of course, the easiest way to see your computer name in Windows is to just hit the Win+Break key combination, which will pop up the System pane from Control Panel.   If you want to change it instead, you can always change your computer name easily through Control Panel.   • Win8 x64 Laptop (Samsung) unable to boot after installing Ubuntu

    I posted here a while back and no one was able to help me so I am going to try to explain my problem better. I have a Samsung series 7 Ultrabook and I connected a USB optical drive with an Ubuntu 14.04 installation disc. I did not set or change any of my partitions, however, as I mainly wanted to just be able to boot from the disc and fool around with Ubuntu. Upon restarting my computer I get a blue-screen message saying: Recovery Your PC needs to be repiared The Boot configuration date file is missing some required information. File: \BCD Error Code: 0xc000000d You'll need to use the recovery tools on your installing media. If you don't have any installation media (like a disc or USB device), contact your system administrator or PC manufacturer. However I am never given the option to even try to boot to anything. When I turn my computer on the optical drive spins and then after a moment or two comes to a halt. I turned off safeboot and switched it to CSM (I believe that is what it is called) mode, and that makes it so when I turn my computer on it takes me to a Windows Recovery screen. I am able to change the date I want to recover and view all the applications installed, however upon recovering Windows says "All boot options are tried. Press key to recover with factory image using Recovery or any other keys for next boot loop iteration." It seems to be stuck in a loop. Can someone please help me?! I'm so confused and nothing is working!

  • MSMQ on Win2008 R2 won't receive messages from older clients

    I'm battling a really weird problem here. I have a Windows 2008 R2 server with Message Queueing installed. On another machine, running Windows 2003 is a service that is set up to send messages to a public queue on the 2008 server. However, messages never show up on the server. I've written a small console app that just sends a "Hello World" message to a test queue on the 2008 machine. Running this app on XP or 2003 results in absolutely nothing. However, when I try running the app on my Windows 7 machine, a message is delivered just fine. I've been through all sorts of security settings, disabled firewalls on all machines etc. The event log shows nothing of interest, and no exceptions are being thrown on the clients. Running a packet sniffer (WireShark) on the server reveals only a little. When trying to send a message from XP or 2003 I only see an ICMP error "Port Unreachable" on port 3527 (which I gather is an MQPing packet?). After that, silence. Wireshark shows a nice little stream of packets when I try from my Win7 client (as expected - messages get delivered just fine from Win7). I've enabled MSMQ End2End logging on the server, but only entries from the messages sent from my Win7 machine are appearing in the log. So somehow it seems that messages are being dropped silently somewhere along the route from XP or 2003 to my 2008 server. Does anyone have any clues as to what might be causing this mysterious behaviour? -- Jesper

  • Windows server reboot loop - uninstalling hotfixes

    After installing 3 updates, my system is stuck in a reboot loop. I am using server 2008 r2. I have tried deleting pending.xml from the windows directory, so pelase don't suggest that. I tried dism /image:d:\ /cleanup-image /revertpendingactions which completed successfully but did not solve my issue I then tried: dism /image:d:\ /Remove-Package /PackageName: and sucusfully removed one of the 3 updates. The two updates that are left are not listed with the dism get-packages command, but are listed with the get-apppatches command. I cannot find a way to uninstall them with dism however. So my question is, how can I manually uninstall specific updates or hotfixes from within the winre environment?

  • Adobe Master Collection CS3 wont run on my Windows 7 64bit

    I have a brand new HP p6230y. My first step after booting it up was to install Master Collection. It installs fine, but when I go to run each of the applications, and they all behave differently. I have re-installed twice already. Photoshop opens, but freezes. Acrobat tells me that I need to reinstall. Nothing else even opens (no freezing, no process in taskman). Any Ideas? HP p6230y RAM: 8gigs CPU: AMD Phenom2 x4 810 (2.6ghz) OS: Windows 7 Home Ultimate 64bit

    I backed up a number of laptops to virtual machines before they are to be re-purposed, in case I need the data at some later time. While the Physical to VM processes worked fine I am encountering issues on some of the VMs. When I boot them I get an error message saying I MUST activate windows in order to login. This is expected because the hardware changed (from physical hardware to virtualized hardware). I click the OK button and expect to be prompted with ways to activate, windows sits there for quite a while then tells me that "Windows has already been activated". I click OK at that message and get take back to the beginning where I am asked to activate Windows. I have done some fairly intensive googling but haven't been able to find a real solution. EDIT: The laptops with the issues are 2 Sony Vaios, I believe that they have the OEM version of the OS originally installed by the factory.

  • Why can't I install apps on Windows 8 using specific dial-up modem connections?

    This problem has persisted since I first tried out Windows 8 Consumer Preview, and also affects Windows 8, Windows 8.1 Preview, and Windows 8.1. Specifically, the problem occurs when I try to install apps from the Windows Store on a Globe Tattoo Broadband or Smart Bro dial-up connection (two common ways of connecting to the internet in the Philippines). I can confirm that this isn't a problem with my copy of Windows or my Microsoft account because I was able to install any app on other connections like public WiFi. This problem has persisted on three different dongles and two different computers. So why can't I install apps on those two specific types of connections?
