• How to replace "(" with "\(" in the regexp, Emacs/elisp flavor?

  Question as title. More specifically, I'm rather tired of having to type \(, etc. every time I want a parenthesis in Emacs's (interactive) regexp functions (not to mention the \\( in code). So I wrote something like (defadvice query-replace-regexp (before my-query-replace-regexp activate) (ad-set-arg 0 (replace-regexp-in-string "(" "\\\\(" (ad-get-arg 0))) (ad-set-arg 0 (replace-regexp-in-string ")" "\\\\)" (ad-get-arg 0))))) in hope that I can conveniently forget about emacs's idiosyncrasy in regexp during "interaction mode". Except I cannot get the regexp right... (replace-regexp-in-string "(" "\\\\(" "(abc") gives \\(abc instead of the wanted \(abc. Other variations on the number of slashes just gives errors. Thoughts? Since I started questioning, might as well ask another one: since lisp code is not supposed to use interactive functions, advicing query-replace-regexp should be okay, am I correct?

I searched for it and I found that there is problem with indexing. But, I am not sure about what query to write. Furthermore, I can add the query on the mongo of the development. I want to make sure that the indexing is done in test too. If anyone has any idea on this, feel free.

• Linq to Entities, checking for specific foreign key id?

  I am trying to get rows where the foreign key ParentID == 0, and this is what I am trying but I get a NotSupportedException because it can't translate the ArrayIndex [0]: IQueryable<ApplicationSectionNode> topLevelNodeQuery = from n in uacEntitiesContext.ApplicationSectionNodeSet where (int)n.Parent.EntityKey.EntityKeyValues[0].Value == 0 orderby n.Sequence select n; So I need to pull that ArrayIndex out of the query so that the runtime can successfully translate the query. I'm not sure how to do that though. How does one query a specific object via it's primary key or set of objects via foreign key? Edit: Note that there is not actually a row in the table with NodeId == 0, the 0 is a magic value(not my idea) to indicate top level nodes. So I can't do n.Parent.NodeId == 0

  I have the following LINQ query: List<FileInputItem> inputList = GetInputList(); var results = from FileInputItem f in inputList where ( Path.GetDirectoryName(f.Folder).ToLower().Trim() == somePath || Path.GetDirectoryName(f.Folder).ToLower().Trim() == someOtherPath ) && f.Expression == null select f; Every time this query is executed, it generates a NullReferenceException. If I remove the condition f.Expression == null or change it to f.Expression != null, the query executes normally (giving the wrong results, of course). The relevant bits of FileInputItem look like this: [Serializable] public class FileInputItem { [XmlElement("Folder")] public string Folder { get; set; } [XmlElement("Expression")] public string Expression { get; set; } /*SNIP. Irrelevant properties */ } I'm new to LINQ to objects, so I'm probably missing something fundamental here. What's the deal?

• Adding to a multidimensional array in PHP

  I have an array being returned from the database that looks like so: $data = array(201 => array('description' => blah, 'hours' => 0), 222 => array('description' => feh, 'hours' => 0); In the next bit of code, I'm using a foreach and checking the for the key in another table. If the next query returns data, I want to update the 'hours' value in that key's array with a new hours value: foreach ($data as $row => $value){ $query = $db->query($sql); if ($result){ $value['hours'] = $result['hours']; } I've tried just about every combination of declarations for the foreach loop, but I keep getting the error that it's a non-object. Surely this is easier than my brain is perceiving it.

  When setting up dojo connections to onmouseover and onmouseout, and then adding content on mouseover, dojo fires the onmouseout event at once, since there is new content. Example: dojo.query(".star").parent().connect("onmouseover", function() { dojo.query("span", this).addContent("<img src='star-hover.jpg'>"); }).connect("onmouseout", function() { dojo.destroy(dojo.query("img", this)[0]); }); The parent() is a <td>, and the .star is a span. I want to add the hover image whenever the user hovers the table cell. It works as long as the cursor doesn't hover the image, because that will result in some serious blinking. Is this deliberate? And is there a way around it?

  I am trying to track performance on some procedures that run too slow (and seem to keep getting slower). I am using v$session_longops to track how much work has been done, and I have a query (sofar/((v$session_longops.LAST_UPDATE_TIME-v$session_longops.start_time)*24*60*60)) that tells me the rate at which work is being done. What I'd like to be able to do is capture the rate at which work is being done and how it changes over time. Right now, I just re-execute the query manually, and then copy/paste to Excel. Not very optimal, especially when the phone rings or something else happens to interrupt my sampling frequency. Is there a way to have script in SQL*Plus run a query evern n seconds, spool the results to a file, and then continue doing this until the job ends? (Oracle 10g)

• Transaction issue in java with hibernate - latest entries not pulled from database

  Hi, I'm having what seems to be a transactional issue in my application. I'm using Java 1.6 and Hibernate 3.2.5. My application runs a monthly process where it creates billing entries for a every user in the database based on their monthly activity. These billing entries are then used to create Monthly Bill object. The process is: Get users who have activity in the past month Create the relevant billing entries for each user Get the set of billing entries that we've just created Create a Monthly Bill based on these entries Everything works fine until Step 3 above. The Billing Entries are correctly created (I can see them in the database if I add a breakpoint after the Billing Entry creation method), but they are not pulled out of the database. As a result, an incorrect Monthly Bill is generated. If I run the code again (without clearing out the database), new Billing Entries are created and Step 3 pulls out the entries created in the first run (but not the second run). This, to me, is very confusing. • Perform Grouping of Resultset in Code

  Stackoverflowers, I have a resultset from a SQL query in the form of: Category Column2 Column3 A 2 3.50 A 3 2 B 3 2 B 1 5 ... I need to group the resultset based on the Category column and sum the values for Column2 and Column3. I have to do it in code because I cannot perform the grouping in the SQL query that gets the data due to the complexity of the query (long story). This grouped data will then be displayed in a table. I have it working for specific set of values in the Category column, but I would like a solution that would handle any possible values that appear in the Category column. I know there has to be a straightforward, efficient way to do it but I cannot wrap my head around it right now. How would you accomplish it?

  I want to select and group the products, and rank them by the number of times they occur. For example, I have an OrderList each of order object has a OrderProductVariantList(OrderLineList), and each of OrderProductVariant object has ProductVariant, and then the ProductVariant object will have a Product object which contains product information. A friend helped me with the following code. It could be compiled, but it did not return any value/result.   I'm trying to make a visual basic application which is connected to a Microsoft Access Database using OLEDB. Inside my database I have a user table with the following layout ID - Autonumber Username - Text Password - Text Email - Text To insert data into the table I use the following query INSERT INTO Users (Username, Password, Email) VALUES ('004606', 'Password', '[email protected]') However I seem to get an error with this statement and according to VB it's a syntax error. But then I tried to use the following query INSERT INTO Users (Username) Values ('004606') This query seemed to work absolutely fine... So the problem is I can insert into just one field but not all 3 (excluding the ID field because it's an autonumber). Any help would be appreciated, Thanks

• How can I have MySQL write outfiles as a different user?

  I'm working with a MySQL query that writes into an outfile. I run this query once every day or two and so I want to be able to remove the outfile without having to resort to su or sudo. The only way I can think of making that happen is to have the outfile written as owned by someone other than the mysql user. Is this possible? Edit: I am not redirecting output to a file, I am using the INTO OUTFILE part of a select query to output to a file.   I'm developing report in RS that show top N customers based on some criteria. It also allows to select number of customers and period of time. Is it possible to do it by using report model? Thing that it seems to be difficult is how to pass parameters determined by user. Another thing that in my oppinion is very disappointing is that i cannot use SQL query as dataset query, because it uses odd and elaborate XML. Although report model items seem to map its fields to query or table fields. I m concerning using report models because i need to provide uniform data model (the same tables and fields) for more or less different database schemas. It would be very nice if somebody would explain what can be done with report models and what can not.

  I've got what I think is a working left outer join LINQ query, but I'm having problems with the select because of null values in the right hand side of the join. I was wondering what the syntax would be. As you can see, I'm using VB.NET. Update... • ASP.NET and SQL server with huge data sets

  I am developing a web application in ASP.NET and on one page I am using a ListView with paging. As a test I populated the table it draws from with 6 million rows. The table and a schema-bound view based off it have all the necessary indexes and executing the query in SQL Server Management Studio with SELECT TOP 5 returned in < 1 second as expected. But on the ASP.NET page, with the same query, it seems to be selecting all 6 million rows without any limit. Shouldn't the paging control limit the query to return only N rows rather than the entire data set? How can I use these ASP.NET controls to handle huge data sets with millions of records? Does SELECT [columns] FROM [tablename] quite literally mean that for the ListView, and it doesn't actually inject a TOP <n> and does all the pagination at the application level rather than the database level?

  I have a query to get the IDs of people in a particular order, say: ids = [1, 3, 5, 9, 6, 2] I then want to fetch those people by Person.find(ids) But they are always fetched in numerical order, I know this by performing: people = Person.find(ids).map(&:id) => [1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 9] How can I run this query so that the order is the same as the order of the ids array? I made this task more difficult as I wanted to only perform the query to fetch people once, from the IDs given. So, performing multiple queries is out of the question. I tried something like: ids.each do |i| person = people.where('id = ?', i) But I don't think this works.

  I'm working on an API wrapper for Snapchat using Python and Bottle, but in order to return the file (retrieved by the Python script) I have to save the bytes (returned by Snapchat) to a .jpg file. I'm not quite sure how I will do this and still be able to access the file so that it can be returned. • What is the performance impact of tracing in C# and ASP.NET?

  I found this in some production login code I was looking at recently... HttpContext.Current.Trace.Write(query + ": " + username + ", " + password)); ...where query is a short SQL query to grab matching users. Does this have any sort of performance impact? I assume its very small. Also, what is the purpose of this exact type of trace, using the HTTP Context? Where does this data get traced to? Thanks in advance!

At the moment it returns the number of rows that have been defined. var q = sqlData.AsEnumerable().Take(2); This data comes in from a database and is imputed into the table but at the moment it only returns database data into the datatable and allows me to select the first two rows and I was wondering if I can query the data table so that I can get the rows that I require based on an index in the actual table itself (e.g. in the table I find five rows and query this information out).

  I have a page where i have 4 tabs displaying 4 different reports based of different tables. Now i get row count of each tabled using select count() from table query and display number of rows available in each table on the tabs. Now with each page post back 5 count() queries are executed (4 to get counts and 1 for pagination) and 1 query for getting report. Now my question is should is count(*) query really expensive that i should keep the row counts (at least which are displayed on tab) in view state of page instead of queering each time? How much expensive it is ?
