• Windows XP Home Edition SP3 cant recognise PCMIA SD Card

  System Specifications: Laptop : Dell Inspiron 6000 OS: Windows Home Edition SP3 SD Adapter: Hagiwara Smart Media Adapter I inserted the card into the slot, windows xp recognises the device, lists the pcmia controller on the device manager list, an entry appears under the IDE ATA/ATAPI category on the device manager as well. However, the device does not show under my computer and the driver does not get assigned a letter number. I checked the system logs from the device manager and there were no logged errors. Checking the Hagiwara support website, the manufacturer indicates that the adapter driver is the same as the windows xp pcmia controller. Checking Dell's website, no specific drivers were listed for that either. General Search on the web indicates that multiple people face similar problems with their SD cards, yet none actually spell out the route issue that causes this. Please let me know if you have any suggestions for further debugging. Thanks in advance

  In my application I needed something like a particle system so I did the following: While the application initializes I load a UIImage laserImage = [UIImage imageNamed:@"laser.png"]; UIImage *laserImage is declared in the Interface of my Controller. Now every time I need a new particle this code makes one: // add new Laserimage UIImageView *newLaser = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithImage:laserImage]; [newLaser setTag:[model.lasers count]-9]; [newLaser setBounds:CGRectMake(0, 0, 17, 1)]; [newLaser setOpaque:YES]; [self.view addSubview:newLaser]; [newLaser release]; Please notice that the images are only 17px * 1px small and model.lasers is a internal array to do all the calculating seperated from graphical output. So in my main drawing loop I set all the UIImageView's positions to the calculated positions in my model.lasers array: for (int i = 0; i < [model.lasers count]; i++) { [[self.view viewWithTag:i+10] setCenter:[[model.lasers objectAtIndex:i] pos]]; } I incremented the tags by 10 because the default is 0 and I don't want to move all the views with the default tag. So the animation looks fine with about 10 - 20 images but really gets slow when working with about 60 images. So my question is: Is there any way to optimize this without starting over in OpenGl ES? • Hotkeys in webapps

  When creating webapps, is there any guidelines on which keys you can use for your own hotkeys without overriding too many of the browsers default hotkeys. For example i might want to have a custom copy command for copying entire sets of data that only makes sense for my program instead of just text. The logical combination for this would be ctrl+c but that would destroy the default copy hotkey for normal text. One solution i was thinking about is to only catch the hotkey when it "makes sense" but when you use some advanced custom selection it might be hard to differentiate if your data is focused, if text is selected or both. Right now i am only using single keys as the hotkey, so just 'c' for the example above and this seems to be what most other sites are doing too. The problem is that if you have text input this doesn't work so good. Is this the best solution? To clarify I'm talking about advanced webapps that behave more like normal programs and not just some website presenting information(even though i think these guidlines would be valid for both cases). So for the copy example it might not be a big deal if you can't copy the text in the menu but when ctrl+tab, alt+d or ctrl+e doesn't work i would be really pissed, cough flash cough.

• How to install Eclipse + PHP Development Tools (PDT) + Debugger on Mac in The Year 2010

  I had a lot of trouble installing Eclipse and PDT on my system. It took two days, largely because all the tutorials I could find were out of date (written in 2008, it's 2010 now) and various steps they included were no longer necessary, broken, or irrelevant. I wanted to write my process here so it could be improved upon (via wiki) as time goes on. Install Eclipse without PHP plugin ("Eclipse Classic"). This will give you a complete Eclipse, which I find preferable, as the UI is more fleshed out (e.g. you get a default list of Perspectives, which helps you understand what Perspectives are.) Install PDT SDK with the Help Install New Software menu item. You'd think you'd be done here, but if you try to run something, it'll fail complaining of not having a debugger. Install the Zend Debugger. It'll fail if you try to use the Install New Software option, as many tutorials suggest ("No repository found containing osgi.bundle.org.zend.php.debug.debugger.5.3.7.v20091116".) Instead, download it from http://www.zend.com/en/community/pdt, and manually copy the features/ and plugins/ directory into your Eclipse install (these instructions are not written anywhere). Restart Eclipse Monkey with preferences for a while -- if you followed a previous tutorial and tried to manually add your php executable to Eclipse prefs (/usr/bin/php), remove it (PHP PHP Executables). Set one of the Zend Debugger executables to the default. If you've already tried to execute a .php file, remove the existing "Run" profile you (maybe weren't aware that you) created (Run Debug Configurations...). Eclipse works! You should be able to run a .php file as a script just fine.

• Slow retrieval of data in SQLITE takes a long using ContentProvider

  I have an application in Android (running 4.0.3) that stores a lot of data in Table A. Table A resides in SQLite Database. I am using a ContentProvider as an abstraction layer above the database. Lots of data here means almost 80,000 records per month. I am already experiencing significant slow down when retrieving this data from Table A. The problem is that when I retrieve data from this table, I first put it in an ArrayList and then I display it. Obviously, this is possibly the wrong way of doing things. I am trying to find a better way to approach this problem using a ContentProvider. But this is not the problem that bothers me. The problem is for some reason, it takes a lot longer to retrieve data from other tables which have only upto 12 records maximum. I see this delay increase as the number of records in Table A increase. This does not make any sense. I can understand the delay if I retrieve data from Table A, but why the delay in retrieving data from other tables. To clarify, I do not experience this delay if Table A is empty or has less than 3000 records. What could be the problem?

• std::locale breakage on MacOS 10.6 with LANG=en_US.UTF-8

  I have a C++ application that I am porting to MacOSX (specifically, 10.6). The app makes heavy use of the C++ standard library and boost. I recently observed some breakage in the app that I'm having difficulty understanding. Basically, the boost filesystem library throws a runtime exception when the program runs. With a bit of debugging and googling, I've reduced the offending call to the following minimal program: #include <locale> int main ( int argc, char *argv [] ) { std::locale::global(std::locale("")); return 0; } This program fails when I run this through g++ and execute the resulting program in an environment where LANG=en_US.UTF-8 is set (which on my computer is part of the default bash session when I create a new console window). Clearing the environment variable (setenv LANG=) allows the program to run without issues. But I'm surprised I'm seeing this breakage in the default configuration. My questions are: Is this expected behavior for this code on MacOS 10.6? What would a proper workaround be? I can't really re-write the function because the version of the boost libraries we are using executes this statement internally as part of the filesystem library. For completeness, I should point out that the program from which this code was synthesized crashes when launched via the 'open' command (or from the Finder) but not when Xcode runs the program in Debug mode. edit The error given by the above code on 10.6.1 is: $ ./locale terminate called after throwing an instance of 'std::runtime_error' what(): locale::facet::_S_create_c_locale name not valid Abort trap

  Update I am making this a community wiki, for three reasons: I don't feel like I got a definitive answer, but I have long since stopped needing an answer, because I rolled my own accordion function this question gets tons of views, so clearly lots of people are still interested So if anybody wants to change/clarify this question and make it a definitive guide, be my guest. I'm working on a page using jQuery's accordion UI element. I modeled my HTML on that example, except that inside the <li> elements, I have some unordered lists of links. The other accordion menu on the page opens the first section you click and, after that, won't open any of them. Both of these problems are IE-specific, and both go away if I use the option animated: false. But I'd like to keep the default slide animation, since it helps the user understand what the menu is doing. Is there another way?

  I'm trying to make a UITableView that shows a blog post and comments for that post. My setup is a tableview in storyboard with two dynamic prototype cells. The first cell is for the post and should never change. The second cell represents the 0 to N comments. • Symfony: Weird routing issue

  Hi, I've got following URL in symfony (specifics not important): /frontend_dev.php/something/25/apple ... and a routing rule: /something/:id/:word The URL works fine when clicked through to on the site, but not when I type in the URL. Instead, symfony says: Unable to find a matching route to generate url for params "NULL". The weird thing is that I can navigate to this page and it works, but when hitting Enter in the browser address bar, it no longer finds it. Any thoughts on what might be the cause of something like this generally? I should also add that the URL was working fine when typed in the address bar earlier, but doesn't anymore, and I'm not sure what's there that might be interfering with it. Thanks in advance.

• Execute less compiler anywhere on the computer

  I'm having a little problem with executing *.cmd files so I can execute them anywhere on the computer with cmd. What I exactly want is to execute the less.cmd file, which support optional arguments and uses lessc.wsf (Less.js compiler for Windows Script Host) for converting less css to pure css. The less.cmd contains: ::For convenience @cscript //nologo "%~dp0lessc.wsf" %* What I've done so far: added absolute path to lessc.cmd to the PATH system variable and moved .cmd in the PATHTEXT system variable to the beginning. Also did this: From a command prompt; assoc .bat should return with ..bat=batfile If not assoc .bat=batfile to restore the default file type association. ftype batfile should return with batfile="%1" %* If not ftype batfile="%1" %* to restore the default "Open" action for the file type. This still doesn't work unless I approach the cmd file with a absolute path in cmd, if I enter lessc anywhere else then I get C:\Intel Intel is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. , I've restarted my computer more than once to be sure changes will take effect. I hope somebody has the answer.

• How do I create an ImageView in java code, within an existing Layout?

  I'm looking for an easy way for the user to see how many drinks they've had for a BAC calculator. PICTURE OF THE APP, for reference On button press, I would like an image to be added to the screen, directly under the spinner and with left alignment. When I press the button again, I want another image to be added to the screen. So if I pressed the add beer button, a drawable of a beer would appear below the spinner. If I pressed the add beer button again, I want there to be TWO drawables of beers under the spinner, preferably with them being added from the right. (Also, having them reach their width limit, wrapping around, and starting again on the left, but below a full line, would be AWESOME) I can't figure out how to do this. I assume adding a ImageView in code to a relative layout (because it needs to be positioned to the right) would be the best route, but if it's possible in xml I'd be more than happy to use that. Any help?

  When I create complex type hierarchies (several levels, several types per level), I like to use the final keyword on methods implementing some interface declaration. I don't want other developers or my users do it. So the final keyword works perfectly for me. My question is: Why is it used so rarely in the wild? Can you show me some examples / reasons where final (in a similar case to mine) would be very bad?

• Runtime Exception when using Custom Healthmonitoring event in medium trust

  Hi, I'm using custom healthmonitoring events in ASP.NET We recently moved to a new server with default High Trust Permissions. Literature says that healthmonitoring and custom events should work under Medium or higher trust (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb398933.aspx). Problem is it doesn't. In less than high trust I get a SecurityException saying The application attempted to perform an operation not allowed by the security policy It works in Full trust or when I remove the inheritance of System.Web.Management.WebErrorEvent. Any suggestions anyone? • How can I programmatically find the IP address/netmask/gateway configured for a specific network dev

  Hi I would like to write a piece of code which checks, for each network device (e.g. eth0, lo, master devices) some statistics and configuration data about that device. I could find the statistics data (and most of the configuration data) in /sys/class/net/..., however, I couldn't find any C/C++ API or any entry in procfs/sysfs listing the inet addr, netmask and gateway. Some alternatives I checked: parsing the output from ifconfig/route/some other utilities: I don't want to start a subprocess every time I need to do the inspection. parsing /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/: will give me only the start-up configuration, and not the current state. Also, since this code is intended for a product in my workplace, where every external library is inspected thoroughly (meaning it will take me forever to add any external library) I prefer solutions which rely on Linux native API and not external libraries.   I'm seeing some new behavior in Forms Authentication after upgrading to .NET 4.0. This occurs only on IIS 6, not on 7. Background - In web.config, we configure Forms Authentication, and then use <authorization tags to globally deny anonymous/unauthenticated users access. Then we explicitly allow access to a login.aspx page using a <location tag. Generally, this works fine, as it did when we were on .NET 2.0 (3.5). The issue only occurs when we visit the root path of the site, ie "http://myserver/". Our default document is configured in IIS to be login.aspx. Under .NET 4.0, upon visiting that URL, we're redirected to "http://myserver/login.aspx?ReturnUrl=/". If you log in from here, you're logged in and returned back at the log in page (yuck). Just wanted to post this here to see if anyone else is experiencing this. It's not listed on any "breaking changes" documentation I've been able to find. Either I'm missing something, or the UrlAuthorization module has changed and is no longer "smart" about IIS default documents.

• Possible defect with jQuery ':checked' selector (finding checked checkbox when there are none)

  Found a strange thing. The following code is supposed to set a default value for a UI element based on whether one of a group of checkboxes (all having attribute name="privacy") is checked (in say, a form postback). If there is no value in the HTML sent by the server (the form is not a postback), the default value should be firstMenuItemKey. Otherwise, it should be the one checked in the underlying HTML. However, while this works on the first call to the URL that includes the form, a refresh of the page will set the value of defaultPrivacyValue to one of the privacy checkboxes'. I've checked that the server isn't checking the checkbox before the script runs (it's not). I've also checked whether somewhere else in the script is checking the checkbox (it's not). var defaultPrivacyValue = firstMenuItemKey; $('input[name=privacy]:checked').each(function() { defaultPrivacyValue = $(this).next().find('.name').text(); }); selectMenuItem(defaultPrivacyValue); When I chaged the selector to 'input[name=privacy][checked=checked]' it worked as expected. Is this a defect in the jQuery implementation of DOM retrieval based on the ':checked' selector???? I'm using jQuery 1.4.2. Thanks for any help you can give.

• Visual Studio 2008 Web Project problem with PNG files

  I've added a PNG file to a directory in my VS2k8 webforms project, and when I run the app, it refuses to render my image - it even knows the dimensions but renders a box with a red X. Oddly enough, if I double click the PNG file within VS2k8, it opens up in the IDE and displays fine (but only within the IDE). Does anyone have any clues? The path is correct.. I just have a basic default.aspx page with this in the body <img src="img/logo.png" /> if i navigate to img/logo.png in the browser, it shows a box with the same dimensions as my image, but a red x. Its finding the image, just not rendering it. It's showing up in IE running under the vs2k8 web server (localhost:5512/default.aspx) I've dropped a JPG in the same directory, and it shows up just fine. I'm not sure what type of PNG it is, but here is the kicker.... If i make an HTML file that references that image, copy both this HTML file and PNG file to my webserver (or just double click on the HTML page), it comes up JUST FINE. Its leading me to believe that the Visual Studio web server may not recognize PNG files (at least this one) properly?

  I built a really basic php/mysql site for an architect that uses one 'projects' table. The website showcases various projects that he has worked on. Each project contained one piece of text and one series of images. My suspicion is that I will need an additional table. Each project now have 'pages'. Pages either contain... One image One "piece" of text One image and one piece of text. Each page could use one of three layouts. As each project does not currently have more than 4 pieces of text (a very risky assumption) I have expanded the original table to accommodate everything. • What does ~ in the beginning of an URL in asp.net exactly do ?

  I am editing a certain website which before used the port 80 (default) that was not required at the url (because it's default..) But the port had (for technical reasons) to be changed, and now it has to be informed. I can access the main page through ip:port\page like this: 1.2.3.4:81\page.aspx Every link in the website is composed like this: <asp:HyperLink runat="server" Text="random" NavigateUrl="~/fdr/whatever.aspx" /> And whenever I click on a link, the page doesn't load, but the URL is composed on the URL bar of the browser, then I simply add ":80" after the IP in the URL and it works. Due to the existance of querystrings (in other words, for already having access to the URL) I before thought that '~' in the beginning of a URL in a link was saying "keep in the same website, just change to this webpage in this folder", but if the port vanishes, I assume now that the address is requested (probably to IIS) the location of the current website. I want to know then (instead of having to add the port to each link in my website) how do I set up whoever is requested by the ~ in the link to add the port somehow. How do I do that?

• Generating Component SEF URLs in Joomla

  I have a custom Joomla component and a router for building my SEF URL's for use within the site, and everything is usually shiny - internally, all of my links look and act fantastic. I recently route a controller action that sends a list of links through email, and I've noticed that my URLs are coming out.... funky - hopefully someone can tell me why. Usually, my router generates an internal link that looks like this: http://localhost/Registry/calendar/265889635/Some-Long-Boring-Event However, when I send an email and preparing the same URL through the same router I get: http://localhost/Registry/Registry/component/calendar/569555803/Some-Long-Boring-Event Has anybody run into this issue before?

• How do I secure all the admin actions in all controllers in cakePHP

  Hello Everyone, I am developing an application using cakePHP v 1.3 on windows (XAMPP). Most of the controllers are baked with the admin routing enabled. I want to secure the admin actions of every controller with a login page. How can I do this without repeating much ? One solution to the problem is that "I check for login information in the admin_index action of every controller" and then show the login screen accordingly. Is there any better way of doing this ? The detault URL to admin (http://localhost/app/admin) is pointing to the index_admin action of users controller (created a new route for this in routes.php file) Thanks
