• Google and Bing Map APIs Compared

  At one of the local golf courses I frequent, there is an open grass field next to the course. It is about eight acres in size and mowed regularly. It is permissible to hit golf balls there—you bring and shag our own balls. My golf colleagues and I spend hours there practicing, chatting and in general just wasting time. One of the guys brings Ginger, the amazing, incredible, wonder dog. Ginger is a Portuguese Pointer. She chases squirrels, begs for snacks and supervises us closely to make sure we don't misbehave.     Anyway, I decided to make a dedicated web page to measure distances on the field in yards using online mapping services. I started with Google maps and then did the same application with Bing maps. It is a good way to become familiar with the APIs. Here are images of the final two maps: Google:  Bing:   To start with online mapping services, you need to visit the respective websites and get a developers key. I pared the code down to the minimum to make it easier to compare the APIs. Note: When creating the Bing map, use the developer Key for the credentials property. I immediately place two markers/pins on the map which is simpler that creating them on the fly with mouse clicks (as I first tried). The markers/pins are draggable and I capture the DragEnd event to calculate and display the distance in yards and draw a line when the user finishes dragging. If you want to see the source for it, you can pick it off the web page. Note: I was able to verify the accuracy of the measurements by using the golf hole next to the field. I put a pin/marker on the center of the green, and then by zooming in, I was able to see the 150 markers on the fairway and put the other pin/marker on one of them. Final Notes: All in all, the APIs are very similar. Both made it easy to accomplish a lot with a minimum amount of code. In one aerial view, there are leaves on the tree, in the other, the trees are bare. I don't know which service has the newer data. However, my deployment (default Ubuntu install) uses a policy.d/ directory structure, and the established server just uses a catalina.policy file. I've tried setting every entry in policy.d to match the given catalina.policy, but I still get the following stacktrace on boot (from localhost log). I have two questions, then. First, how do I get tomcat to use a single poilcy file, rather than the directory structure presented by policy.d/? • Android Webview Anchor Link (Jump link) not working

  Hi, I have a WebView in my Android App that is loading an HTML string using the loadDataWithBaseURL() method. The problem is that local anchor links (<a href="#link">...) are not working correctly. When the link is clicked, it becomes highlighted, but does not scroll to the corresponding anchor. This also does not work if I use the WebView's loadUrl() method to load a page that contains anchor links. However, if I load the same URL in the browser, the anchor links do work. Is there any special handling required to get these to work for a WebView? I am using API v4 (1.6).

  The maximum message size quota for incoming messages (65536) has been exceeded. To increase the quota, use the MaxReceivedMessageSize property on the appropriate binding element. Let me begin by saying that I can fix the problem by increasing the size of MaxReceivedMessageSize and the appropriate buffer. However it looks to me that this solution is not ideal because it's impossible to establish an upper bound to the size of the message as data changes daily. Setting it to the maximum size of two gigs feels like the wrong approach ... It may matter... or not: I'm using the MSN ad center API v6. Can an experienced WCF professional confirm this is indeed the approach we'll have to make do with? Is it as bad as it looks? Thank you.

  I am looking for a code generator than can generate C# code to access RESTful web services described by WADL files in a way similar to how wadl2java works. Doing som searching I came across the rest-api-code-gen project on Google Code, but although the latest source does in fact support C#, the REST Describe & Compile demo site does not. (The C# button is there, but it's disabled.) I realize I could download the source and set up my own server with the latest version, but I would prefer not to, as what I need is a command line tool and not a web application with dependencies to Google Web Toolkit. I guess I could write my own a command line tool based on the same source code, but if it has already been done, or other tools can do the job, I'd rather avoid it. So, I'm wondering, are there any tools like that out there?

If so - how can I have this confirmation dialog box and still behave properly when the installer asks the application to close down? Must I listen to Win32 messages (such as WM_QUIT/WM_CLOSE) or is there a .NET API which I can use to respond properly to these events?

• TFS Changeset history using QueryHistory after branch rename

  I'm using the VersionControlServer.QueryHistory method to retrieve a list of files that have changed during a timespan that ranges from 5/1/2009 to 10/1/2009. My results unexpectedly only included items that had changed after 9/1/2009. I then realized that the path that I was using, $/Project/Reports/Main, didn't exist until 9/1/2009. Before 9/1/2009, there had been another node named $/Project/Main/Reports, which was renamed to $/Project/Reports/Main. When I query from Source Control Explorer I can see the entire history (5/1/2009 - 10/1/2009) that I expect to see. However, I can't get the same results via the API. I've tried to specify the branch that no longer exists because it was renamed, but not surprisingly I get zero results. Any ideas?

Does anyone know how to validate a signed executable using CertGetCertificateChain and related API's?

• Android: TabHost How To: set new content in existing tabs upon menu button?

  Hello stackoverflow, I recently started Android programming and was working on my first program which displays a historic text document, sectioned by tabs via TabHost. I have limited my program to one activity and merely used setContent in my TabSpec's to switch between different XML views. The document has both unedited and corrected versions of the text for which I have built text views to accommodate. I wanted to implement the standard menu to have buttons to "view corrected" and "view original" and switch the content of the tabs which have changes (without altering the tabs or their indicators). I've read on the TabHost API and there is no way to edit existing tab content with setContent() of TabSpec; and AFAIK TabWidget only affects the actual tabs, not the content that is displayed upon pressing them. I've thought about creating a new class which extended TabHost and super() all of the original methods, while including one more which updated the mTabSpec list. My question would be, how would I update the frameLayout view of a specific tab to display content I specify?

But it looks like blackberry doesn't have an internal api for creating single line Edit field. I have created a Custom Field by extending BasciEditField overriding methods like layout, paint. In paint i am drawing a rectangle with getpreferred width and height. But the cursor is coming at default position (top-left) in Edit Field. Can any body tell me how i can draw it where my text is(i.e in middle of Edit Field by calling drwaText()). Thanks,

  I'm trying to use Simple XML to convert my java objects to XML format in my Android application. I'm getting NoClassDefFoundError at line Serializer serializer = new Persister(); java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: org.simpleframework.xml.core.Persister I have simple-xml-2.6.1.jar in project class path and when I got NoClassDefFoundError I also put these 3 jars in classpath stax-1.2.0.jar stax-api-1.0.1.jar xpp3-1.1.3_8.jar but made no use. Still having NoClassDefFoundError. Any kind of help will be appreciated.Thank you.

  Hi there, I'd like to implement my own script engine using the QtScript component and other Qt components. Since this should be an open source (GPL) application I thought I would be free to do this. But now I found a page at Qt's website that made me doubtful about it: What are the restrictions with releasing scriptable applications? Unless the scripter has a Qt license, the following restrictions apply: The application itself may not primarily be a script development tool. The Qt API may not be made directly scriptable. Scripts may not alter the main functionality of the application. If the major part of the application is developed with a compiled programming language and only some non-core parts of the application are made extendable/modifiable through Qt Script, the scripter does not need to purchase a Qt or QSA license.
