  Hi, When one develops a self-hosted WCF http server, one of the steps needed is to bind an SSL certificate to a port number: httpcfg set ssl -i 0.0.0.0:8012 -h 0000000000003ed9cd0c315bbb6dc1c08da5e6 as stated in: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms733791.aspx However, It is hardly expected that in my deployment environment one would be able to do it. (I don't even know if the httpcfg.exe is redistributable) Moreover, if the user changed the port after he installed the product then he will need to run the command again.... how can this step be automated pro grammatically? preferably in C# but if it can only be done in C++ (direct access to the Http Server API) then I will manage :)

• How to use Win32 SetCursor() with WPF resource and HwndHost

  We have an HwndHost UIElement in our WPF application which is used to display Direct3d graphics, and the only way I have found to set a cursor for the HwndHost UIElment is to call the Win32 API SetCursor(). All of our cursors are resources in managed assemblies, and I would prefer to not change that, but I have not been able to find a way to load one of these cursors via any Win32 APIs like LoadImage(). Does anybody know how to get a handle(hCursor) to a cursor which is a resource in a managed assembly? Or, is there another way to set a cursor on an HwndHost displaying Direct3D graphics?

It's just very convenient constructing my objects that way but it worries me because i have no idea whether this is ok or violates the License by dynamically executing code or maybe even calling private (?) API functions. They wouldn't be documented if they were private, right? Can someone shed some light on this? Have you had an App approved or rejected using code similar to the above? I'm pretty sure that this is ok but i wan't to hear it from someone else! :)

  I have been looking for a fully functional WSDL client generator for ruby. I tried the one called wsdl2ruby and it didn't work. I think it has problems with detecting complex types correctly. Can someone point me to the right library if there is one? I am specifically looking to generate a full functional client for SOAP API provided by jira. I looked into jira4r but it seems to be dead now and not up to date. Any help is much appreciated. Thank you.

  I am working on scheduling the tasks using Quartz API. I tried scheduling notepad.exe and in the logs, I see the following line - org.quartz.jobs.NativeJob runNativeCommand About to runcmd.exe /C c:/WINDOWS/notepad.exe ... But the notepad is not coming up. Same is the issue with any exe or batch file. I also see the notepad.exe as a running process in Task Manager. • Passing variable to Google Charts URL

  Hi All, This is probably something really simple, however I am quite new to PHP, and havent done any HTML in years. I need to get a PHP variable filled with an array of figures into Google Charts. My code for this so far is: <img src="http://chart.apis.google.com/chart? &chs=340x175 &chd=t:<?=$filedetail[1]?> &cht=lc &chtt=Test "> However, Google reports an error, as it stops at the ?=$filedetail[1] for some reason. • Is it possible to sendkeys / Post Message directly to a HtmlElement rather than to a C# webbrowser

  I would like to send keys to a c# web browser control element directly, not just the window with the correct focus. Right now I am able to send a key using PostMessage and documentHandle and focus like this i.e. Pseudo Code HtmlElement el = getelement(); el.Focus(); IntPtr docptr = browser.Handle; PostMessage(docptr,WM_KEYDOWN,1,0); .... KEYCHAR, KEYUP.. I was wondering if anyone knows of any way to be able to do this in a background, so that the focus is not on the element. Basically is there a way to get a IntPtr to the HtmlElement itself, than use that instead in the PostMessage or SendKeys API rather than the browser handle/ptr.

  I have a Python module that I would like to upload to PyPI. So far, it is working for Python 2.x. It shouldn't be too hard to write a version for 3.x now. But, after following guidelines for making modules in these places: Distributing Python Modules The Hitchhiker’s Guide to Packaging it's not clear to me how to support multiple source distributions for different versions of Python, and it's not clear if/how PyPI could support it. I envisage I would have separate code for: 2.x 2.6 (maybe, as a special case to use the new buffer API) 3.x How is it possible to set up a Python module in PyPI so that someone can do: easy_install modulename and it will install the right thing whether the user is using 2.x or 3.x?

  This .NET API works OK if I'm trying to open the Registry in a machine that's in the same domain as I am (and my logged-on user has admin rights on the target machine). It gets tricky if it's an out-of-domain machine with a different, local administrative user (of whom I do have the password). I tried to use WNetUseConnection() (which has served me well in the past in situations where what I wanted was to read a remote disk file) prior to calling OpenRemoteBaseKey(), but no dice -- I get an access denied exception. Clearly, I must pass credentials some other way, but how?

  I need a WeifenLuo replacement that'll run on both .NET and Mono, on Windows, Linux and Mac, preferrably licensed under the MIT license. I'd appreciate if the API was similar to WeifenLuo's, but I understand that such may not be available. Also, since I couldn't find anything on Google, I believe this might not exist. In this case, I'd like some hints regarding how to implement this. I have some(not much) Windows.Forms experience, and I must not use any P/Invoke. I already know out how to detect window motion and how to create a borderless translucent window on a given position and with a given size. So here are some problems I am facing: WeifenLuo supports multiple left/right/top/bottom panes, allowing them to be resized and contain more than one panel. It also supports splittable tabs. Is there anything else I should be aware of before starting? Are there similar open-source projects available?

  I just finished reading this post: http://developer.yahoo.com/performance/rules.html#flush and have already implemented a flush after the top portion of my page loads (head, css, top banner/search/nav). Is there any performance hit in flushing? Is there such a thing as doing it too often? What are the best practices? If I am going to hit an external API for data, would it make sense to flush before hand so that the user isn't waiting on that data to come back, and can at least get some data before hand?   I am creating a library which contains an API for setting the current location based off some value collected by the GPS. I want to store this location in my class and later, change the behavior of my library if it is set.   Now that Apple is officially allowing UIGetScreenImage() to be used in iPhone apps, I've seen a number of blogs saying that this "opens the floodgates" for video capture on iPhones, including older models. But I've also seen blogs that say the fastest frame rate they can get with UIGetScreenImage() is like 6 FPS. Can anyone share specific frame-rate results you've gotten with UIGetScreenImage() (or other approved APIs)? Does restricting the area of the screen captured improve frame rate significantly? Also, for the wishful thinking segment of today's program, does anyone have pointers to code/library that uses UIGetScreenImage() to capture video? For instance, I'd like an API something like Capture( int fps, Rect bounds, int durationMs ) that would turn on the camera and for the given duration record a sequence of .png files at the given frame rate, copying from the given screen rect.

• How to add a Fragment inside a ViewPager using Nested Fragment (Android 4.2)

  I have a ViewPager with three Fragments, each one shows a List (or Grid). In the new Android API level 17 (Jelly Bean 4.2), one of the features is Nested Fragments. The new functionality description says: if you use ViewPager to create fragments that swipe left and right and consume a majority of the screen space, you can now insert fragments into each fragment page. So, if I understand right, now I can create a ViewPager with Fragments (with a button inside for example) inside, and when user press the button show another Fragment without loose the ViewPager using this new feature. I expend my morning trying to implement this on several ways but I can´t made it... Can somebody show a simple example of how to do this? PS: I'm only interested in doing at this way, with getChildFragmentManager to learn how works.

• Bug Running Android Tutorial HelloTabWidget under SDK 1.5: "setCurrentTag(getIntent())"

  does not compile. Indeed: even in 1.5, this api, getIntent(), is already listed as deprecated. The error message I get complains that getIntent() does not return a String, but setCurrentTab() expects a string. If I guess and change the line to read: "tabHost.setCurrentTab(1); // was setCurrentTab(getIntent())", then it compiles, builds, but does not run. I get the "stopped unexpectedly" error message from the emulator. I cannot even get Log.d to output, so it seems that it stops 'unexpectedly' very early. So the first and main question is: what is the correct fix to "tabHost.setCurrentTab(getIntent())" in the final line of OnCreate() in http://developer.android.com/resources/tutorials/views/hello-tabwidget.html? The second and simpler question is: did I guess right in replacing 'mTabHost' with tabHost in the one place where that occurs?

• HttpWebRequest to different IP than the domain resolves to

  Hey, Long story short an API I'm calling's different environments (dev/staging/uat/live) is set up by putting a host-record on the server so the live domain resolves to their other server in for the HTTP request. The problem is that they've done this with so many different environments that we don't have enough servers to use the server-wide host files for it anymore (We've got some environments running off the same servers - luckily not dev and live though :P). I'm wondering if there's a way to make WebRequest request to a domain but explicitly specify the IP of the server it should connect to? Or is there any way of doing this short of going all the way down to socket connections (Which I'd really prefer not to waste time/create bugs by trying to re-implementing the HTTP protocol). PS: I've tried and we can't just get a new sub-domain for each environment.

I want to make a single api call to stop power save mode and then restore it once the task is done. • Is AlarmManager.setRepeating idempotent?

  In my android app, I'm setting an alarm that I want to occur repeatedly, hence using AlarmManager.setRepeating(). I don't want to keep track of whether the alarm is set myself (sounds like a bad idea that's prone to fail at some point), and there seems to be no API support for checking whether a particular alarm is already set for a given Intent. Hence, I am pessimistically resetting the alarm each time my app activates: alarmManager.cancel(pendingIntent); ... alarmManager.setRepeating(..., pendingIntent); Question: is calling setRepeating() idempotent i.e. do I need to explicitly cancel() any prior alarm or can I safely just call setRepeating() and be done with it?

• Rack rSpec Controller Tests with Rack Middleware issue

  Howdy, I'm having big trouble testing with rSpec's controller API. Right now I'm using a middleware authentication solution (Warden), and when I run the specs, the proxy added by the middleware is not there, and all the authentication tests are throwing NilPointerExceptions all over the place. It seems rSpec is not adding the middleware to the final app on purpose, and I would like to know if there is a way to monkey patch rSpec in order to make that go. I already tested the whole thing with cucumber, however this is a refactoring of an old authentication version and there is several Controller tests that depend on authentication logic in order to work.   I have a list of 1,000,000 strings with a maximum length of 256 with protein names. Every string has an associated ID. I have another list of 4,000,000,000 strings with a maximum length of 256 with words out of articles and every word has an ID. I want to find all matches between the list of protein names and the list of words of the articles. Which algorithm should I use? Should I use some prebuild API? It would be good if the algorithm runs on a normal PC without special hardware.

• Windows Server Appfabric

  I am considering using Windows Server Appfabric for it caching functionality. I have an existing classic ASP application that I want to rewrite in ASP.NET MVC. However, I want to be able to do this "piecemeal" i.e. a few pages at a time. The problem is session state between the ASP and ASP.Net MVC application. I could use a database but I would like to use Appfabric since it has good scalabilty, admin, etc. My question is: does the Appfabric caching service/functionality have an API that I could wrap in .Net and expose to my classic ASP application as a com object? I could then change all the Session and Application caching in the classic application to use the com object i.e. Appfabric. In this way I can share session state between ASP.Net MVC and classic ASP. I will have to test the performance penalty associated with interop as well.
