• In Flex 3 is there a way to pre-buffer an image so that it appears without flickering?

  In my application I have an VBox control on top of another VBox that contains an Image control that loads a jpg from a URL (you can't see the bottom panel initially since it's underneath, but the image does fully download). When one clicks on the top VBox, the bottom one gets set to visible=false, then an effect causes the top VBox to vanish, then the bottom VBox is set to visible=true and an effect causes it to appear. Continuously clicking the VBoxes causes them to alternate appearing and disappearing. The problem is that the first time the bottom VBox appears, it flickers once when it draws. After that, there's no problem and it smoothly appears and disappears with the effect with no problem. It's as if the first time the bottom VBox appears, it flickers because even though the image has been downloaded, it has never been displayed before. Can I pre-buffer the image in the bottom VBox somehow to avoid this flicker?

• How can I convert convert docx or wordml xml files to xsl-fo?

  I've been looking for a method to convert docx or wordml xml to xsl-fo. I read this post: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/156683/what-is-the-best-xslt-engine-for-perl but I'm having exceptional problems getting apache-fop going. I was able to download the bins and run it locally but the formatting was a little off and it didn't maintain the headers and footers or section 1 or section 3 (17 page doc 3 sections) it also overlapped the text over the outline numbers and did not maintain the font used. trying a more simple test caused fop to fail completely. I would like to find a way to create a PDF that is at least close to 100% accurate reproduction of the original doc.

• What technical/legal responsibilities do I have when hosting images uploaded by others?

  You may argue that this question has a legal flavor to it, and that would be correct. Still, it is also a question from a developer's perspective that may help others. I'm building an image community web site/application. Users can upload images. During upload, users have to select the license (copyrighted, attribution non-commercial or public domain). No matter which license they choose, it is just a piece of data. No matter the license, all users can view all images and also download all images, as you normally do on websites. My question is: what responsibility do I have as a "platform" to comply with these licenses? Do I need to actively prevent certain actions on these images, and into what extend? Is displaying the license enough to be legally safe? What if one of my users uploads images for which he has no license? Is it enough to just implement a "report this" feature?

  i use the downloadable geonames database for all countries, states, counties and cities in the world. but i wonder if there is a database for streets? so you could pick: country - state/department/district - (county/region) - city - street in whatever country you like? cause when i do a search for a street in google map i can see all the upper levels (country/region/city). is there a database you could download for mysql for this? there has to be a database for this, cause there are always national companies that provide this kind of information. where did they get it from? thanks in advance!

• lmerTest package install failing on Ubuntu 12.04

  I'm running Ubuntu 12.04.5 LTS precise 32-bit and trying to install the lmerTest package for R version 2.14.1... When I try to install from the CRAN repository or R-forge: install.packages("lmerTest") or install.packages("lmerTest", repos="http://R-Forge.R-project.org"), I get the error: Warning in install.packages : package ‘lmerTest’ is not available (for R version 2.14.1) So I downloaded the Package Archive File from CRAN and tried to install from this Package source: lmerTest_2.0-11.tar.gz ,but get the error: "installation of package /home/.../lmerTest_2.0-11.tar.gz’ had non-zero exit status" I had a similar problem when trying to install lme4, and using the advice from lme4 package install failing on Ubuntu 12.04 was able to download the package using "sudo apt-get install r-cran-lme4" after which it appeared in my R package list and installed fine from there. I tried a similar tactic with lmerTest "sudo apt-get install r-cran-lmerTest" but just get "Unable to locate package r-cran-lmerTest", so really don't know what to do now, bearing in mind that I'm a novice with both Ubuntu and R, any suggestions/help would be much appreciated

I need to set a developer portal, a web site where existing and potential developers would find documentation html pages doc files for download libraries downloads wiki forums support ticketing system. The uploading part is working fine but to download is more complicated. $videoEntryToDelete = $yt->getVideoEntry($videoId); $yt->delete($videoEntryToDelete); I use this code to delete a video and the first row do work. • Getting website data into Adobe InDesign

  I'd like our magazine team to be able to download website data in a file that Adobe InDesign can read. They can then import/open the file, make a few tweaks, and cut out a vast deal of repetitive manual labour (they currently use copy&paste for a few hours). After a brief Google I note that v2 of InDesign can import/export XML so perhaps that is my best bet? Are there any alternatives, and can anyone offer any advice on them? I am using a PC, and the magazine team are on Macs; testing will be tiresome I fear. The data we wish to format is fairly simple - a title followed by a short chunk of text (repeated about 50 times, say). I'll ask about importing images later. Thanks for your help. • Change the install directory for an OSX Package

  It drives me nuts that every time I download a binary to run on OSX that it wants to install in system directories. ~/Applications is a perfectly fine place to install and doesn't require blindly authenticating somebody else's binary. Is there a way to change the install directory for packages? On a few I've been able to open the package and edit the plist to install it elsewhere, but that doesn't work universally. I install from source when I can, but it isn't always an option. Is there a good way to force the installer to use ~/Applications?

  I've created a software that I want to be able to market. I'd like to be able to post it on forums etc and for that I need a home page. Is there any open source C# project home pages that you can use? The functionality I'm looking for is like adding new versions (perhaps a version control from the software), downloading and user guides. So what I want is pretty basic: I want to be able to upload and let the users download. I've written this on my own as well but I guess that if there are open source projects that have done this they're probably better.   I'm Writing a simple pong game in C# and XNA 4.0 to learn unit testing. The tools used are TestDriven.NET and NUnit, all newest versions. The problem is, if I test the code with VS2010 internal debugger, everything runs fine, but when I use "Run Test(s)" from menu, the application chokes with error: Test 'WindowsGame1.Game1.TestGameMenu' failed: Microsoft.Xna.Framework.Content.ContentLoadException : Error loading "SpaceBackground". File not found. ----> System.IO.FileNotFoundException : Error loading "Content\SpaceBackground.xnb". File not found. (some more below...) So it stops when the first textre is going to be loaded.   I've been trying to get the pubsub sample in the NServiceBus download to work in a gateway mode. I haven't really been able to find out much detail at all about how to get NServiceBus to run in gateway mode. How do I setup the publisher/server in gateway mode? When I did try I received an access denied exception which would either be due to the account I'm running it under or I'm missing something. How do I setup the subscribers/clients to communicate to the gateway? Can anyone point me in the right direction?

  Hi, I have my Drupal site here so far: selkirk.treethink.net Each Primary Link at the top has a bunch of other primary links under it (sub links) I need to display these sub links when you hover over the parent primary link in a dropdown menu. Everything is in the primary links but there are parents (what you see at the top of the demo) and sub links (what should be in the dropdown). I'm not sure if I set up these menus wrong though...Drupal is a little awkward for me.   I have built a static version of qt and download a static version of glibc. Now I would like to link glibc statically to my qt application. I know about going into the .pro and adding the line LIBS += -L path/to/static_lib but I am wondering if these that is enough? Will it still link glibc statically even though the OS I am building on has the dynamic libraries also? The reason I am doing this is to deploy the application in a standalone manner.   Hey! I have a computer on a small network, so my ip is 192.168.2.100. I am trying to get my real ip. I download the no-ip client but that just seems like a lot of trouble for such a simple thing. I created this php script that got http://www.ip-adress.com/ page and retrieved the ip it gave me. Is there a simpler way? Either using C, WSH or something. Or if there is an easier way in php please tell me. When I get the ip I'll uploaded it to my ftp site so that I can see the ip from work.
