  I apoligize in advance if this question is indeed too subjective as SO warns me. My workstation has 8 gb of ram and runs windows 7 64 bit. I use the Spring tool Suite (3.1) but as soon as i am starting to open and modify the spring config (.xml) files, STS becomes incredibly slow. I already tried switching off "build automatically" and to increase memory settings but no luck.   I have looked at a couple of books and all I have looked at were just discussing the technicalities of OOP. By technicalities I mean, here's a concept, here's some code, now get working. I have yet to see a book that discusses the architectural process, what are the ways of doing this, why doing this is bad, how to actually incorporate design patterns in a real-world project, etc. Can you recommend a good resource or book? I am mainly programming with PHP but a language-agnostic book/resource would do :)

  I am wondering how it is possible to avoid one socket connection pr. thread in Scala. I have thought a lot about it, but I always end up with some code which is listening for incoming data for each client connection. The problem is that I want to develop an application which should simultanously handle perhaps a couple of thousand connections. However I will of course not want to create a thread for each connection because of the lack of scalability and context switching. What would be the "right" way to do this. In my world it should be possible to have one actor for each connection without the need to block one thread per actor.

I'm sure the answer depends on your background, but my own personal answer is the conversion of basically anything in the language to a True/False value in boolean contexts. Resulting in "oddities" like: if x: not meaning the same thing as: if x == True: I understand why, but it bugs me, and I certainly had to think about it a bit when I first ran into it.

• didSelectRowAtIndexPath being called after viewDidLoad of the called view

  I am trying to pass variables over to the new view. I have the following code: appDelegate *dataCenter = (AppDelegate*)[[UIApplication sharedApplication] delegate]; dataCenter.myVariable = [array objectAtIndex:indexPath.row]; in the didSelectRowAtIndexPath of the calling view. However, the issue that I have is that this variable is empty in the vewDidLoad function of the next view, simply because it fired off BEFORE the didSelectRowAtIndexPath of the calling view. I am using storyboard to link the views together. Both are UITableView. If I hit back and then reselect the table element it is then set, granted that by the time I hit back and then selected again, the variable got set. Is there any way to for the order of execution? I really don't want to do UI view switching on the back end. Any help is greatly appreciated!
