• SVN Server not responding

  I've been bashing my head against a wall with this one all day and I would greatly appreciate a few more eyes on the problem at hand. We have an in-house SVN Server that contains all live and development code for our website. Our live server can connect to this and get updates from the repository. This was all working fine until we migrated the SVN Server from a physical machine to a vSphere VM. Now, for some reason that continues to fathom me, we can no longer connect to the SVN Server. The SVN Server runs CentOS 6.2, Apache and SVN 1.7.2. SELinux is well and trully disabled and the problem remains when iptables is stopped. Our production server does run an older version of CentOS and SVN but the same system worked previously so I don't think that this is the issue. Of note, if I have iptables enabled, using service iptables status, I can see a single packet coming in and being accepted but the production server simply hangs on any svn command. If I give up waiting and do a CTRL-C to break the process I get a "could not connect to server". To me it appears to be something to do with the SVN Server rejecting external connections but I have no idea how this would happen. Any thoughts on what I can try from here? Our IPCop (?) firewall allows connections from it (and it alone) on port 80 and passes the connection to the SVN Server. • Restoring permissions on Windows 2008

  I have played with folder permissions due to SVN not being able to write to a folder and now I got into a state where I go to any folder of C: drive in Windows Explorer and when I right-click it takes 30 seconds to show the context menu and it just hangs the window after that. It definitely has something to do with permissions as it was all working fine until I started tweaking permissions about an hour ago. My login belongs to two groups Users and Administrators. I changed ownership of C drive to Administrators group and I think it screwed everything, but I can't change it back because I don't even remember what it was :) Oh, and only Administrators group has access to drive C now. Any way to reset permissions to some previous state or some workable state?

• SEAGATE Barracuda 7200.11 HDD not running

  After a huge research, I'm stuck at the beggining of getting my HDD data back. Whats happening to me is that in the moment when I plug the power wire to my external 1TB SEAGATE Barracuda 7200.11 ST31000333AS HDD Fw LC15, it makes the sound like it's spinning to almost full speed and then shuts down and spins up again, and so on. It's well known that those HDDs have a bad firmware that someday randomly fails. There are like 2 main problems identified, BSY (busy) state, and LBA0 error. Last time I connected it to power nothing happened, it didnt try to start at all, is it that so called bricked state? I guess my HDDs error is the first one, but I dont really know if what I described is that BSY state or not, neither I know how to check it. How could I know it? Thank you so much!

CPU2 Status: Processor sensors for CPU2, IERR was deasserted I've Googled it, random forum posts aren't providing me with a clear answer. It's also apparently not a word: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/deassert?s=t I can guess the meaning. Assert: to state with assurance, confidence, or force Okay. So the negative of that. The state of lack-of-confidence? What is this error message trying to tell me? Memory errors were grouped with this one: is it trying to say that IERR for CPU2 should be set, but is not? That the current system state is SNAFU but CPU2 sees everything as fine?

I have the hard drive in a state it was last in, which is a small 250 gb hard disk. I have now installed 1.5tb hard disks, and installed a full licenced copy, as the original copy was a trial version. So I'm in a state where I have a new install, I have one of the old drives plugged in, but I can't transfer the old backups across, how do I do this?

  I have a windows 2k8 machine that generated almost 40,000 WinEventLog:System events in the period of about 20 minutes. The breakdown of these events by eventcode was approximately: 4373 46% 4371 46% 4383 7% 4372 1% Microsoft-Windows-Servicing seemed to go crazy for a short time.... looking at updates, changing the state of updates etc. What could have caused this? UPDATE: Many of the events seem to come in pairs of: Windows Servicing started a process of changing package KBfoobar state from Installed(Installed) to Installed(Installed) and Windows Servicing successfully set package KBfoobar state to Installed(Intstalled)

• Can I use the same machine as a client and server for SSH?

  For development tests, I need to setup an SFTP server. So I want to know if it's possible to use the same machine as the client and the server. • Allowing ssh in iptables

  I am doing iptables firewall configuration. Actually, I need to allow ssh connection only from particular IP. But, It is blocking the ssh connection. Even, It is blocking from my_ip_address to src_ip_address . I haven't put any rules for OUTPUT chain. What is wrong with my commands? How to allow ssh in iptables?

• SharePoint 2010 - Access denied during ApplyWebConfigModifications()

  I have SharePoint 2010 installed on a Windows Server 2008 R2 machine which is also hosting SQL Sever 2008 R2. I am attempting to deploy a solution that includes web parts in the 2010 environment that is working fine in MOSS 2007. The Web Part feature has a feature receiver that updates the web.config. When I try to activate the feature through the Site Collection Feature GUI, I receive an access denied message. I am logged on to the server and in SharePoint with the APP Pool account which is also a member of the domain administrator group, local administrator group and SharePoint Farm Admin group. This account is also dbo on SQL Server. This same feature activates fine using the stsadm command. I have dug into this issue at length and here is what I have found: Looking at the Microsoft assemblies in reflector, my error is coming from the SPWebApplication.ApplyWebConfigModifications() method. I can see the trace statements from SPWebConfigFileChanges.RemoveModificationsWebConfigXMLDocument and SPWebConfigFileChanges.ApplyModificationsWebConfigXMLDocument. The next line is a Save(str).   I'm wanting to get a WCF-over-TCP service working. I was having some problems with modifying my own project, so I thought I'd start with the "base" WCF template included in VS2008. I get the feeling that you can't send metadata using TCP, but that's the case why is there a mexTcpBinding option?

• ELMAH - Filtering 404 Errors

  I am attempting to configure ELMAH to filter 404 errors and I am running into difficulties with the XML-provided filter rules in my Web.config file. I followed the tutorial here and here and added an <is-type binding="BaseException" type="System.IO.FileNotFoundException" /> declaration under my <test><or>... declaration, but that completely failed. When I tested it locally I stuck a breakpoint in protected void ErrorLog_Filtering() {} of the Global.asax found that the System.Web.HttpException that gets fired by ASP.NET for a 404 doesn't have a base type of System.IO.FileNotFound, but rather it is simply a System.Web.HttpException. Next I decided to try a <regex binding="BaseException.Message" pattern="The file '/[^']+' does not exist" /> in the hopes that any exception matching the pattern "The file '/foo.ext' does not exist" would get filtered, but that too having no effect. As a last resort I tried <is-type binding="BaseException" type="System.Exception" />, and even that is entirely disregarded. I'm inclined to think there's a configuration error with ELMAH, but I fail to see any. Am I missing something blatantly obvious? • JpegBitmapEncoder.Save() throws exception when writing image with metadata to MemoryStream

  I am trying to set up metadata on JPG image what does not have it. You can't use in-place writer (InPlaceBitmapMetadataWriter) in this case, cuz there is no place for metadata in image. If I use FileStream as output - everything works fine. But if I try to use MemoryStream as output - JpegBitmapEncoder.Save() throws an exception (Exception from HRESULT: 0xC0000005). After some investigation I also found out what encoder can save image to memory stream if I supply null instead of metadata. To run it, replace filename variable content with path to any .jpg file without metadata (or use mine). Ofc I can just save image to temporary file first, close it, then open and copy to MemoryStream, but its too dirty and slow workaround. Any ideas about getting this working are welcome :)

• non-static variable cannot be referenced from a static context (java)

  I ask that you ignore all logic.. i was taught poorly at first and so i still dont understand everything about static crap and its killing me. My error is with every single variable that i declare then try to use later inside my methods... i get the non-static variable cannot~~ error I can simply put all the rough coding of my methods inside my cases, and it works but then i cannot use recursion... • handle null values for string when implementing IXmlSerializable interface

  I have the following class that implements IXmlSerializable. When implementing WriteXml(), I need to handle the case where the string members of this class may be null values. What is the best way of handling this? Currently, I am using the default constructor in which all the string properties are initialized to empty string values. This way, when WriteXml() is called, the string will not be null. One other way I could do this is check using String.IsNullOrEmpty before writing each string in xml. • WCF and Firewalls

  Hi guys, As a part of learning WCF, I was trying to use a simple WCF client-server code . http://weblogs.asp.net/ralfw/archive/2007/04/14/a-truely-simple-example-to-get-started-with-wcf.aspx but I'm facing strange issues.I was trying out the following. Client(My) IP address is : 192.168.2.5 (internal behind firewall) Server IP address is : 192.168.50.30 port : 9050 (internal behind firewall) Servers LIVE/External IP (on internet ) : 121.225.xx.xx (accessible from internet) When I specify the above I.P address of server(192.168.50.30), the client connects successfully and can call servers methods. Now suppose if I want to give my friend (outside network/on internet) the client with server's live I.P, i get an ENDPOINTNOTFOUND exceptions. Surprisingly if I run the above client specifying LIVE IP(121.225.xx.xx) of server i also get the same exception. I tried to debug the problem but haven't found anything. Is it a problem with the company firewall not forwarding my request? or is it a problem with the server or client . Is something needed to be added to the server/client to overcome the same problem? Or are there any settings on the firewall that need to be changed like port forwarding? (our network admin has configured the port to be accessible from the internet.) is it a authentication issue?
