• Cinnamon Settings Panel Blank After v 2.0.6

  After cinnamon upgrade to 2.0.6-20131026040307-precise via synaptic, the "cinnamon settings" gui or window is broken. It appears blank, only showing the configuration category icons for "Appearance", "Preferences", "Hardware", and "Administration". The icons that should be within these categories are gone. I don't know if cinnamon-control-center was removed during the last cinnamon update, but this issue began on Oct. 25. • Installer doesn't display partition I want to install to

  While performing a Ubuntu 10.10 installation on my laptop, it doesn't show partitions pertaining to the PC. My PC configuration is as follows : HP Pavilion dv6 - 2020AX AMD Turion II Dual Core Mobile Processor M500 4 GB RAM OS Installed : Windows 7 500 GB Hard drive partitioned as follows : C : 227 GB (Free : 142 GB) D : 11.9 GB (Free : 1.98 GB) - Recovery F : 174 GB (Free : 18 GB) G : 50.5 GB (Free : 50.4 GB) So, I want to perform a Dual-boot installation on my PC, so that Ubuntu resides in the free disk space G:. Therefore, I started the Ubuntu 10.10 installation and select the manual partitioning feature in the installation. However, in the 'Allocate Drive Space' section of the installation, following partitions information is displayed: Partition Type Size Used /dev/sda /dev/sda1      1 MB    unknown /dev/sda2    ntfs    208 MB   unknown /dev/sda3   ntfs    244813 MB    168540 MB /dev/sda4    ntfs    255083 MB   3221 MB where /dev/sda - 500 GB So, what exactly is the problem? What is it should I do to install Ubuntu 10.10 in the G: disk space? Why are the partitions not being shown as the way they should be? Any Suggestions. Thank you for the help.

  I have the 1.5 version of StarterSTS sitting here for quite some time now. But I was always reluctant to release it. Some of the reasons are: too many new features for a single (small) version change. to many features that are optional, like bridged authentication and thus make the code very complex. the way I implemented Azure integration adds a dependency on the Azure SDK, even for “on-premise” installations. I don’t like that. the fact I am using some WebForms bits and some WCF bits, the URL structure got messy. WebForms also don’t help a lot in testability All of the above reasons together plus the fact that I am the only architect, developer and tester on this project made me come to the conclusion that I will cancel this release. But wait… StarterSTS 1.5 is fully functional. We use both the on-premise and Azure versions internally “in production”. Cancelling means I will release the latest source code on Codeplex – but will not mark it as a “recommended release”. I also won’t produce updated screen casts and docs. Bu the setup is very similar to earlier versions. Feel free to use and customize 1.5 and give me feedback. On the good news front, I am working on a new version – welcome thinktecture IdentityServer. This version is based on MVC3 and the routing architecture, removed a lot of the clutter, has a SQL CE4 based configuration system, is more extensible – and in overall just cleaner. I will be able to upload CTPs very soon.

  I've installed nvidia-current using the Additional Drivers application in Ubuntu 12.04. I need those drivers so I can use accelerated WebGL. • Combined Likelihood Models

  In a series of posts on this blog we have already described a flexible approach to recording events, a technique to create analytical models for reporting, a method that uses the same principles to generate extremely powerful facet based predictions and a waterfall strategy that can be used to blend multiple (possibly facet based) models for increased accuracy. This latest, and also last, addition to this sequence of increasing modeling complexity will illustrate an advanced approach to amalgamate models, taking us to a whole new level of predictive modeling and analytical insights; combination models predicting likelihoods using multiple child models. The method described here is far from trivial. We therefore would not recommend you apply these techniques in an initial implementation of Oracle Real-Time Decisions. In most cases, basic RTD models or the approaches described before will provide more than enough predictive accuracy and analytical insight. The following is intended as an example of how more advanced models could be constructed if implementation results warrant the increased implementation and design effort. Keep implemented statistics simple! Combining likelihoods Because facet based predictions are based on metadata attributes of the choices selected, it is possible to generate such predictions for more than one attribute of a choice. We can predict the likelihood of acceptance for a particular product based on the product category (e.g. ‘toys’), as well as based on the color of the product (e.g. ‘pink’). Of course, these two predictions may be completely different (the customer may well prefer toys, but dislike pink products) and we will have to somehow combine these two separate predictions to determine an overall likelihood of acceptance for the choice. Perhaps the simplest way to combine multiple predicted likelihoods into one is to calculate the average (or perhaps maximum or minimum) likelihood. However, this would completely forgo the fact that some facets may have a far more pronounced effect on the overall likelihood than others (e.g. customers may consider the product category more important than its color). We could opt for calculating some sort of weighted average, but this would require us to specify up front the relative importance of the different facets involved. This approach would also be unresponsive to changing consumer behavior in these preferences (e.g. product price bracket may become more important to consumers as a result of economic shifts). Preferably, we would want Oracle Real-Time Decisions to learn, act upon and tell us about, the correlations between the different facet models and the overall likelihood of acceptance. This additional level of predictive modeling, where a single supermodel (no pun intended) combines the output of several (facet based) models into a single prediction, is what we call a combined likelihood model. Facet Based Scores As an example, we have implemented three different facet based models (as described earlier) in a simple RTD inline service. These models will allow us to generate predictions for likelihood of acceptance for each product based on three different metadata fields: Category, Price Bracket and Product Color. We will use an Analytical Scores entity to store these different scores so we can easily pass them between different functions. A simple function, creatively named Compute Analytical Scores, will compute for each choice the different facet scores and return an Analytical Scores entity that is stored on the choice itself. For each score, a choice attribute referring to this entity is also added to be returned to the client to facilitate testing. One Offer To Predict Them All In order to combine the different facet based predictions into one single likelihood for each product, we will need a supermodel which can predict the likelihood of acceptance, based on the outcomes of the facet models. This model will not need to consider any of the attributes of the session, because they are already represented in the outcomes of the underlying facet models. For the same reason, the supermodel will not need to learn separately for each product, because the specific combination of facets for this product are also already represented in the output of the underlying models. In other words, instead of learning how session attributes influence acceptance of a particular product, we will learn how the outcomes of facet based models for a particular product influence acceptance at a higher level. We will therefore be using a single All Offers choice to represent all offers in our combined likelihood predictions. This choice has no attribute values configured, no scores and not a single eligibility rule; nor is it ever intended to be returned to a client. The All Offers choice is to be used exclusively by the Combined Likelihood Acceptance model to predict the likelihood of acceptance for all choices; based solely on the output of the facet based models defined earlier. The Switcheroo In Oracle Real-Time Decisions, models can only learn based on attributes stored on the session. Therefore, just before generating a combined prediction for a given choice, we will temporarily copy the facet based scores—stored on the choice earlier as an Analytical Scores entity—to the session. The code for the Predict Combined Likelihood Event function is outlined below. // set session attribute to contain facet based scores. // (this is the only input for the combined model) session().setAnalyticalScores(choice.getAnalyticalScores); // predict likelihood of acceptance for All Offers choice. After the prediction is made, we will clear the Analytical Scores session attribute to ensure it does not pollute any of the other (facet) models. To guarantee our combined likelihood model will learn based on the facet based scores—and is not distracted by the other session attributes—we will configure the model to exclude any other inputs, save for the instance of the Analytical Scores session attribute, on the model attributes tab. Recording Events In order for the combined likelihood model to learn correctly, we must ensure that the Analytical Scores session attribute is set correctly at the moment RTD records any events related to a particular choice. We apply essentially the same switching technique as before in a Record Combined Likelihood Event function. // set session attribute to contain facet based scores // (this is the only input for the combined model). session().setAnalyticalScores(choice.getAnalyticalScores); // record input event against All Offers choice. Application.getPredictor().learn(InternalLearn.modelArray, session(), session(), Application.currentTimeMillis()); // clear session attribute of facet based scores. session().setAnalyticalScores(null); In this example, Internal Learn is a special informant configured as the learn location for the combined likelihood model. The informant itself has no particular configuration and does nothing in itself; it is used only to force the model to learn at the exact instant we have set the Analytical Scores session attribute to the correct values. Reporting Results After running a few thousand (artificially skewed) simulated sessions on our ILS, the Decision Center reporting shows some interesting results. In this case, these results reflect perfectly the bias we ourselves had introduced in our tests. In practice, we would obviously use a wider range of customer attributes and expect to see some more unexpected outcomes. The facetted model for categories has clearly picked up on the that fact our simulated youngsters have little interest in purchasing the one red-hot vehicle our ILS had on offer. Also, it would seem that customer age is an excellent predictor for the acceptance of pink products. Looking at the key drivers for the All Offers choice we can see the relative importance of the different facets to the prediction of overall likelihood. The comparative importance of the category facet for overall prediction might, in part, be explained by the clear preference of younger customers for toys over other product types; as evident from the report on the predictiveness of customer age for offer category acceptance. Conclusion Oracle Real-Time Decisions' flexible decisioning framework allows for the construction of exceptionally elaborate prediction models that facilitate powerful targeting, but nonetheless provide insightful reporting. Although few customers will have a direct need for such a sophisticated solution architecture, it is encouraging to see that this lies within the realm of the possible with RTD; and this with limited configuration and customization required. There are obviously numerous other ways in which the predictive and reporting capabilities of Oracle Real-Time Decisions can be expanded upon to tailor to individual customers needs. We will not be able to elaborate on them all on this blog; and finding the right approach for any given problem is often more difficult than implementing the solution. Nevertheless, we hope that these last few posts have given you enough of an understanding of the power of the RTD framework and its models; so that you can take some of these ideas and improve upon your own strategy.   I have just updated my Ubuntu linux to Ubuntu 10.4, not my grub menu isnt letting me boot to Windows Partition. The problem seems to be with grubs new update from using an editable menu.lst file to using a non editable grub.cfg file. Everywhere I look it states "DO NOT EDIT THE GRUB.CGF FILE". I am at a loss as what to do. I figured that the new configuration has screwed up the Windows Boot File. Anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this. • How do I setup a systemd service to be started by a non root user as a user daemon?

  I just finished the install and setup process of systemd on my arch-linux system (2012.09.07). I uninstalled initscripts (and removed the configuration files). What I want to do is create a service that can be started and stopped by a non-root user. The service is to start a detached screen session running rtorrent. However I want every user on the system who has set this service to start (enabled) to have a particular instance started for them specifically. How would one go about doing this? I remember reading that systemd supports user instances of services, however I have been unable to find any information on how to set this up, or whether it relates to what I am looking for. • Find files containing a string on the whole filesystem

  I need to find all the instances of a given string in the whole filesystem, because I don't remember in which configuration files, script or any other programs I put it and I need to update that string with a new one. I tried with the following command `grep -nr 'needle' / --exclude-dir=.svn | mail [email protected] -s 'References on xxx' If I run this command on a small directory it gives me the output I need in the form /path1/:nn:line containing needle /path2/:nn:line containing needle where /path1 is the full path of the file, nn is the row containing the needle and last field is the content of the line. However when I run the command on the root directory the grep process hang after a while. I run this script about 8 hours ago and even on a small filesystem (less than 5GB) it doesn't end and if I run top or ps the process seems sleeping root 24909 0.0 0.1 3772 1520 pts/1 S+ Feb10 0:15 grep -nr needle / --exclude-dir=.svn Why it doesn't end? Is there any better way to do this (it's a one time job, I don't need to execute this more than once) Thanks.

• shibboleth: tomcat failing to start IdP listener

  I have installed a Shibboleth Identity Provider as per http://www.edugate.ie/workshop-guides/shibboleth-2-identity-provider-installation-linux-debian-or-ubuntu However, testing only gave me a 404 from Tomcat, and when I checked the Tomcat logs, I saw that the IdP listener was not starting: 10/01/2011 11:25:31 AM org.apache.catalina.startup.HostConfig deployDescriptor INFO: Deploying configuration descriptor idp.xml 10/01/2011 11:25:32 AM org.apache.catalina.core.StandardContext start SEVERE: Error listenerStart 10/01/2011 11:25:32 AM org.apache.catalina.core.StandardContext start SEVERE: Context [/idp] startup failed due to previous errors The IdP descriptor file has the following context: <Context docBase="/opt/shibboleth-idp/war/idp.war" privileged="true" antiResourceLocking="false" antiJARLocking="false" unpackWAR="true" /> I have confirmed that the WAR file is located as the Context above specifies - as I have found similar issues from other people where the WAR file was not found. However, the logs posted by those people indicate that the descriptor file was correctly read by Tomcat and their problem was with the WAR file itself. I'm assuming this is some kind of syntax error with the idp.xml, but cannot determine what it might be. Also - setting the Tomcat logging level to FINEST does not provide any additional information in the logs for this error.

• Google Blogger Website CName and/or Text File Issues

  I have a blogger Blog website and I would like to have it show up on my company website. I have read a couple articles out there on how to do it. A hand full of them talk about using FTP which is old and no longer available. However, I am trying to following along with this one: http://www.infinite42.com/small-business/integrate-blogger-blog-website Which seems pretty easy but I am having a problem getting Google to Verify the DNS CName or Text Record that I created on my Windows 2007 Server. Do I need to create this record at the registra level. Right now the domain is setup at the registra to point the www record to my server where on my server I tried the Txt Record and the CName Record with no luck in DNS. Here are the Google instructions for creating a CName file record in DNS: Follow the steps below to create a DNS (Domain Name System) record that proves to Google that you own the domain. Add the CNAME record below to the DNS configuration for abc.com. CNAME Label / Host: CNAME Destination / Target: Click Verify below. When Google finds this DNS record, we'll make you a verified owner of the domain. (Note: DNS changes may take some time. If we don't find the record immediately, we'll check for it periodically.) To stay verified, don't remove the DNS record, even after verification succeeds. • Wrong source IP when accessing internet directly from TMG server

  Hi everyone, after implementing a ForeFront TMG server I'm facing only one problem: After I added a second IP to the external adapter I had to manually set "NAT Address Selection" inside the network rule "Internet Access" to the first IP since all others would get blocked by the CISCO firewall. This configuration works as long as traffic comes from the internal network (e.g. browser on clients). Traffic from the TMG directed to the internet always carries the second IP as it's source address and gets blocked. All our other TMGs/ISAs are running fine and I never came across this problem- Does anybody have a clue, coz I don't?! Kevin

Also update Drupal from 6.19 to 6.30. I have update it by uninstalling everything in the server and reinstalling the new version.   Incidentally this was the first piece of code i ever wrote in ADF.The requirement was we have tax rates which are read from a table.And there can be different type of tax rates called certificates or exceptions based on the rate_type column in the tax rates table.The simplest design i chose was to create an EO on the tax rates table and create two VO's called CertificateVO and ExceptionVO based on the same EO.So far so good.I wrote all the business logic in the EO and completed the model project.The CertificateVO has the query as select * from tax_rates TaxRateEO where rate_type='CERTIFICATE' and similary the ExceptionVO is also built.The UI is pretty simple and it has two tabs called Certificates and Exceptions and each table has a button to create a tax rate.The certificate tab is driven by CertificateVO and exception tab is driven by ExceptionVO.The CertificateVO has default value of rate_type set to 'CERTIFICATE' and ExceptionVO has default value of rate_type to 'EXCEPTION' to default values for new records.So far so good.But on running the UI i noticed a strange thing,When i create a new row in Certificate i see the same row in Exception too and vice-versa.i.e; what ever row i create in one VO it also appears in the second one although it shouldn't be.I couldn't understand the reason for behavior even though an explicit where clause is present.Digging through documentation i found that ADF doesnt apply the where clause to new rows instead it applies something called as RowMatch to them.RowMatch in simple terms is a where condition applied to the VO rows at runtime.Since we had both VO's based on the same EO we have the same entity cache.The filter factor for new rows to be shown in VO at runtime is actually RowMatch than the where clause defined in the VO.The default RowMatch is empty as a result any new row appears in both the VO's since its from same entity cache.The solution to this problem is to use polymorphic view objects which can do the row filter based on configuration or override the getRowMatch() method in the VOImpl and pass the custom where filter instead of default RowMatch.Eg:@Overridepublic RowMatch getRowMatch(){    return new RowMatch("rate_type='CERTIFICATE'");}similarly for ExceptionVO too.With proper RowMatch in place new rows will route themselves to appropriate VO.PS: The behavior(Same row pushed to both VO's from entity cache) is also called as ViewLink Consistency.Try it out!

• Timesync on HyperV with CentOS 6.2

  I've got a CentOS VM (release 6.2) running under HyperV. I have integration services installed (part of base now), and CentOS shows the current clocksource is hyperv_clocksource, however my time in the VM is about 10 minutes fast after a week of uptime. My understanding of the new IC and plugable clocksource is that this shouldn't happen any more. Is there any additional configuration necessary to get the plugable clocksource to "work?" I know there are plenty of links about setting kernel options to PIT and various stuff like that, but those all seem to pre-date the integrated clocksource support, and as I understand it shouldn't be needed anylonger. Nor should ntpd nor adjtimex.

• JBoss thrown error looking up local address when starting

  Hello im installing a fresh Jboss 5.1 in a Centos 5.5 machine. I dont have Apache installed. So when I try to start jboss using the comand ./run.sh I get the following error 15:13:57,414 INFO [JMXKernel] Legacy JMX core initialized 15:14:03,856 ERROR [ServerInfo] Error looking up local address java.net.UnknownHostException: dhcppc1: dhcppc1 at java.net.InetAddress.getLocalHost(InetAddress.java:1354) at org.jboss.system.server.ServerInfo.getHostAddress(ServerInfo.java:364) at sun.reflect.NativeMethodAccessorImpl.invoke0(Native Method) at sun.reflect.NativeMethodAccessorImpl.invoke(NativeMethodAccessorImpl.java:39) at sun.reflect.DelegatingMethodAccessorImpl.invoke(DelegatingMethodAccessorImpl.java:25) .... After that i can run Jboss only from 127.0.0.1:8080 but using localhost:8080 doesnt work. I think its a centos configuration problem but im a total newbye managing ports and maybe firewalls, so what do you think could be the problem?

I'd like to backup my entire C:\ drive (the only partition) in a way that: Preserves all of my installed software and configuration, but Avoids backing up log files and other ephemeral / temporary files that are regenerated during normal operation of the OS.
