• Using Thor for generators in a Ruby Gem

  How do I setup a Gem to have a binary command eg. "project newProject" that uses Thor's set of generator commands to create files etc.? A good answer would describe how to layout the skeleton of a gem that that when run from the command line "project newProject" creates 1 file named "newProject.txt" in the directory it's run from. I've seen that Rails 3 is using Thor to power it's generators, seems like a really good solution and i'd like to use a similar approach in non-Rails ruby gem i'm working on. Tried looking at the Rails 3 source but it's a bit labyrinthine hence the question.

  I'm hunting for a mobile POS printer for use in a mobile point-of-sale application (BestSeller). The requeriments is that must work independent of anything except the mobile device. So the solution is only: Printer + iPhone. I have a early question on this, here but with not answers. The idea is that the printer work as their own server and I can send print commands to make tickets and that stuff. The salesman work outside the company,and have not ascces to internet or other facilities. • .net difference between right shift and left shift keys

  I am currently working on an application which requires different behaviour based on whether the user presses the right or left shift key (RShiftKey, LShiftKey), however when either of these keys is pressed I only see ShiftKey | Shift. Is there something wrong with my keyboard? (laptop) do I need a new keyboard driver/keyboard in order to send the different key commands maybe... This is a pretty massive problem at the moment, as there is no way of testing that the code works (apart from unit tests). Anyone had any experience of the different shift/alt/ctrl keys?

  In my MVVM based WPF application I have a lot of different ViewModel types that dynamically loaded into ContentControls or ContentPresenters. Therefor I need to explictly set what DataTemplate is to be used in XAML: <ContentControl Content={Binding SomePropertyOfTypeViewModel} ContentTemplate={StaticResource someTemplate} /> Now my problem is that the content control is displaying the UI of someTemplate even if the ContentControl is bound to nothing (i.e ViewModel.SomePropertyOfTypeViewModel is null) Is there a quick and easy way to make all ContentControls display nothing if they are currently bound to nothing? When I use implicit DataTemplates everything works as expected. Unfortunately I can't use this mechanism here.

• IIS 7.5 powershell module usage issues

  Has anyone managed to use this module with success, i'm running 32bit Windows 7, where i have opened an administrator shell using run as administrator, i have imported the WebAdministration module and then attempted to use the commands with some issues, have provided two examples here Websites I created a web site with the following command new-website -name testsite -port 80 -hostheader testsite -physicalpath c:\temp Then i attempted to get the sites details using the command get-website -name testsite but it always returns all sites, seems to ignore the -name parameter. Only way i can get the site is using a filter get-website | ? { $_.name -eq 'testsite' } | get-member When i use appcmd it works as expected using the following command C:\> C:\Windows\System32\inetsrv\appcmd.exe list site testsite AppPools When i try to list the apppools using the following command dir iis:\apppools i get the following error Get-ChildItem : Access is denied. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070005 (E_ACCESSDENIED)) Yet when i use appcmd as follows i get all the apppools as expected without any error C:\Windows\System32\inetsrv\appcmd.exe list apppool Has anyone successfully managed to use the WebAdministration module ?   Reading about WPF and thinking about my application's data store at the same time led me to wonder if there are any languages or tools that allow you to define relational data in a declarative way? A shallow Google search suggests no such thing exists. Yet it seems so obviously useful. The kind of tool I have in mind would declaratively describe (at least) entities, relationships and views is a platform-agnostic way that would act as an abstraction layer between data-driven applications and their datastores. Does any such tool exist?

  Hello, I have a cmd command that needs to be executed, when the command starts it starts to fill a progressbar. When the cmd command is done the progressbar needs to fill up to 100. This is the code i use, but it gives me an error when the progressbar.Value = 100 comes up. VB gives me a suggestions about Cross Thread, but i don't know how i could make it work with this.

• What is the equivalent to Java's canvas object in C#?

  I'm working on creating a basic application that will let a user draw (using a series of points) and I plan to do something with these points. If this were Java, I think I would probably use a canvas object and some Java2D calls to draw what I want. All the tutorials I've read on C#/Drawing involve writing your own paint method and adding it to the paint event for the form. However, I'm interested in having some traditional Form controls as well and I don't want to be drawing over them. So, is there a "Canvas" object where I can constrain what I'm drawing on? Also, is WinForms a poor choice given this use case? Would WPF have more features that would help enable me to do what I want? Or Silverlight?

• Using boost::asio::async_read with stdin?

  hi poeple.. short question: I have a realtime-simulation which is running as a backround process and is connected with pipes to the calling pogramm. I want to send commands to that process using stdin to get certain information from it via stdout. Now because it is a real-time process, it has to be a non blocking input. Is boost::asio::async_read in conjunction with iostream::cin a good idea for this task? how would I use that function if it is feasible? Any more suggestions?

  Hi there, Does anyone know of a good framework to allow me design permission and roles against users. Basically allowing me to automatically check a user can do a certain thing, and then disabling or enabling menu items etc I am not really looking for asp.net security ... as i need to use it in my own service layer and clients both WEB and WPF will use it. I was hoping for something that allows me to create new roles and groups against users and then check what type of permissions a user has or a group has Any help really appreciated.. • How do I manipulate the scroll bars so that a div with content that changes size is showing the same

  What I have is a div, for example is 800*800 px, and inside of this div is a SVG image, which can fit in the div but also can get very large, say 5000*5000 px, and I need to manipulate the scrollbars so that when the SVG has changed size the scrollbars adjust so that you are seeing the same center of your 'viewport' that you were seeing before. The reason I use 'viewport' is because I have seen exactly what I am trying to achieve done in WPF. Initially it sets the center as the center of the SVG so that when the SVG gets larger then the container the scrollbars automatically scroll to show the center of the SVG. If the user scrolls the 'viewports' center is updated and any changes in size now center there. I need this to be cross-browser compliant and done only with javascript. However I really don't care what container the SVG is being bounded by.

For that purpose I though of building cli utility. The utility will connect to the application and send user commands (one line strings) to the application and wait for response from the application. The command should contain: - command name (e.g. display-session-table/set-log-level etc.) - optionally command may have several arguments (e.g. log-level=10) The question to choose syntax and to learn parse it fast and correctly. I don't want to reinvent the whell, so maybe there's already an answer out there.

  In multithreaded .NET programming, what are the decision criteria for using ThreadPool.QueueUserWorkItem versus starting my own thread via new Thread() and Thread.Start()? In a server app (let's say, an ASP.NET app or a WCF service) I think the ThreadPool is always there and available. What about in a client app, like a WinForms or WPF app? Is there a cost to spin up the thread pool? If I just want 3 or 4 threads to work for a short period on some computation, is it better to QUWI or to Thread.Start().

• Importing Python module from the Bash

  I am launching a Python script from the command line (Bash) under Linux. I need to open Python, import a module, and then have lines of code interpreted. The console must then remain in Python (not quit it). How do I do that? I have tried an alias like this one: alias program="cd /home/myname/programs/; python; import module; line_of_code" But this only starts python and the commands are not executed (no module import, no line of code treated). What is the proper way of doing this, provided I need to keep Python open (not quit it) after the script is executed? Many thanks.

  I am having a WPF desktop application that uses SQL CE (compact edition 3.5 ) and using the Entity Framework as a Datalayer. As It turned out in (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;958478&sd=rss&spid=2855 ) and (http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sqlce/thread/b6bac277-cf66-4c74-a0b3-e48abedbd161/ ) There Is some problem with the Entity Framework and SQL CE and I had to get the hotfix (basically a new build of the SQL CE called 3.5.1) My problem now is how to build a setup package in order to make it work in case some users already had the SQL CE 3.5 installed on their machines? I have included the DLLs directly in the application but when the sql ce is installed, its DLLs are in the GAC and have precedence over the local ones and the application crashes. I need the build a setup that would work "even if" the user already had the old buggy version.

The value must be in the form 'yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss.fffZ' how to make for code generation a string Field unique. Like E-Mail or Username can exists only once in the table. I've search alot in the internet and also checked my books Pro Entity Framework 4.0 and Programming Entity Framework. But none of them seems to come up with the default value issue, or using sql commands as default values for database generation. Another thing is, how to prevent on database generation always from droping tables? Instead i want to append non existing fields and keep the data. Thanks for any suggestions.

• Recursive FTP directory listing in shell/bash with a single session (using cURL or ftp)

  I am writing a little shellscript that needs to go through all folders and files on an ftp server (recursively). So far everything works fine using cURL - but it's pretty slow, becuase cURL starts a new session for every command. So for 500 directories, cURL preforms 500 logins. Does anybody know, whether I can stay logged in using cURL (this would be my favourite solution) or how I can use ftp with only one session in a shell script? I know how to execute a set of ftp commands and retrieve the response, but for the recursive listing, it has to be a little more dynamic... Thanks for your help!

  It's tough to write a good title for this one. I'm working on a WPF application which needs to know about the existence of all other open windows on the system. I'm able to do this by calling the native EnumWindows method just fine, and I can call other native methods to filter out just the windows I'm interested in. This works well. The problem I'm having is that I want to know when a window is opened or closed (and, ideally, minimized). I can do this by polling with EnumWindows, but I'm finding that to be pretty slow, even if I push it off to another thread. Is there a better way to get notifications of window opened/closed/minimized? Keep in mind that my knowledge of non-managed code is pretty limited.

  I have tried checking out the mDNSResponder source from Apple's SVN host, with the thought of compiling it and tweaking it. This failed miserably. • Run Exchange Management Shell cmdlets from Visual Basic/C#/.NET app

  Goal: Provide a web service using Visual Basic or C# or .NET that interacts with the Exchange Management Shell, sending it commands to run cmdlets, and return the results as XML. (Note that we could use any lanaguage to write the service, but since it is a Windows Box and we have Visual Studio 2008, it seemed like easiest solution would be just use it to create a VB/.NET web service. Indeed, it was quite easy to do so, just point and click.) Problem: How to run an Exchange Management Shell cmdlet from the web service, e.g, Get-DistributionGroupMember "Live Presidents" Seems that we should be able to create a PowerShell script that runs the cmdlet, and be able to call that from the command line, and thus just call it from within the program. Does this sound correct? If so how would I go about this? Thanks. Answer can be language agnostic, but Visual Basic would probably be best since that is what I loaded the test web service up in.
