  I have some problems with my Dell Vostro 3350. I have to graphic card - Intel and ATI radeon 6470M. I have installed this driver. It's fresh installation of Windows 7. And my problem is that in device menager I can see in section graphic cards AMD Radeon HD 6490M and Intel(R) Graphics Family. Another thing is that I'm using two screens. And I want to use ATI readeon as default. At this moment I'm event not sure if ATI is working. Another strange thing is that when I run Catalyst Control Center in section Destkop Menagement i don't see nothing.

• How do I fix Windows 7 rotating wallpaper?

  On my PC with Windows 7 Professional x64, I have a folder of images that I use for my theme. Under Personalization (right click on desktop - Personalize) it is the only theme under 'My Themes'. Repeatedly, I have noticed the background has stopped rotating and is stuck on one image. When I go to Personalization, I notice a new theme has been created called 'Unsaved Theme' with one image from my folder and is the current theme. To fix this, I set the theme back to my folder and delete the single image theme. How can I prevent this from reoccurring as it has happened multiple times?

  A company is about to hire me to be their I.T. Admin. (They currently have no Admin). In the interview, they stated one of the things they want me to do is put in a MS Domain Controller. The thing is, they are a graphic design company with about 100 Mac Clients and maybe 5 Windows Clients. So other than login-credentials and network shares, what is the benefit of this? Should I just tell them to use the OSX equivalent of AD? How hard is it to learn whatever OSX's AD is?

• Allow Internet Access with Default Gateway on Windows 7 VPN Server

  I have a Windows 7 box at home (which I'll refer to as Home-VPN) that runs a simple PPTP VPN server. I have a range of 2 IP address (192.168.1.10-192.168.1.11) to give out, although the server is only able to give out one concurrent connection. Ports 1723 & 47 are correctly forwarded to the server. IPv6 is disabled on both Home-VPN and the client. I setup Home-VPN just like this Youtube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1s5JxMG06L4 I can connect to it just fine but I can't access the Internet when connected to Home-VPN, all outside web servers (eg. google.com, mozilla.org, apple.com) are unreachable. I know I can uncheck "Use Default Gateway on Remote Servers" on the client side under IPv4 settings but that will route all my traffic through my current connection, rather than through the VPN, defeating the purpose of said VPN. Any ideas on how I can fix this?

  I have a VPCF2 with windows 7 installed on it. I was working on my computer when on of my drives (D) disappeared. I can see it in Computer Management>Disk Management and it'd marked as Healthy(Primary Partition). When I right click on it the only options that are enabled are Delete Volume and Help. So I cannot assign a drive letter to it (not even in safe mode). I tried System Restore and it failed. I tried to boot the system using ubuntu tha was installed on my system but that fails too because it was installed on partition D. I'm hopeless. What can I do?

• Install Firefox on Windows 7 for all users

  This has got to be among the simplest possible things in the word for those who know how to do it. However, I don't, and I have been astonished to find nothing about it from google searches other than unanswered copies of the exact same question. All I want is Firefox, and I want it for all users on a Windows 7 laptop. In fact, the real story is that I want it to work again for all users after updating from Firefox 5 to Firefox 8, which process has apparently left it unavailable to anybody but the administrator. I'll probably find the answer to this in the time it takes for this question to get answered, but I promise I'll upvote you anyway :-) I mainly wanted to get this question (hopefully with good answers) out there so that it turns up on a Google search.

  Disclaimer: I've been digging around for a few days and didn't get what I was looking for in terms of answers, so I'm asking here. I've recently purchased an 80g SSD drive to use as my boot up and OS parition. I've got a windows 7 desktop with two 1TB (raid0) disks currently and I'm not sure where to start in terms of copying / moving the OS. I suppose that doing a fresh install isn't out of the question, but I've got an upgrade disk from Vista that I'd have to deal with. Where do I begin?

• Versioning files in Windows XP

  I would like to set up an archive folder in Windows XP that would allow me to drop several different versions of the same file, and have it store each version. I would envision this to work similar to the recycle bin, where you can drop the same file 10 times and it stores each version. Anybody know how I can do this? Thanks! Edit: Using a Version Control System is complete overkill for this situation. I may just write a script that appends a date/time stamp to the file when added to the folder.

• Problems with connecting to wireless network on windows 7

  I have a Dell laptop with Windows 7 (Home premium) 64 bit edition installed on it. I use a Wi-Fi router to browse the net. My problem is, I lose the network connection every 10 minutes or so. The network icon on the system tray shows the refresh icon and the status as "identifying network". The network is fine and works fine with my phone. I saw on the net this may be caused if I have enabled IPv6, so I disabled it but still problem persists. When I look at the event log I see the following entries: "Your computer was not assigned an address from the network (by the DHCP Server) for the Network Card with network address 0xXXXXXXXX. The following error occurred: 0x79. Your computer will continue to try and obtain an address on its own from the network address (DHCP) server." I have also installed VirtualBox(32 bit edition) on the laptop. Does anybody any solution to this?

• Boot.ini on Windows Server 2003 R2

  I have a Windows Server 2003 R2 with 48 GB of RAM; server has been running strong for quite some time. Recently our boot.ini was modified causing issues, most likely by our remote administrators. Now the server is only showing 14 GB of RAM. This has caused major performance issues for our end users. Our remote administrators have stated "we don't change the boot.ini settings(switches)". However, I know for a fact that all of the local administrators have not modified the switches (due to lack of permissions). The real question.. Is it possible to "audit" who has modified the boot.ini? If thats not possible, can the boot.ini be set via startup? Any help would be greatly appreciated. This is an ongoing issue that I would love to resolve.

• How to open a EAR/WAR file in windows 7

  I have a few EAR/WAR files which are Java archives and I would like Windows 7 to open these files the way it opens a file with extension zip. So I open this war file and in the list of softwares available with "Open" I see MS Word, Notepad etc but nothing about CompressedFolderView. I also tried manually specifying the location of exe (I thought this was expand.exe) but that does not work. Does someone know if I can make this work? Or should I use Winzip or some such utilities?

• Windows 7 Mapped Network Drive Multiplying to Create Duplicates all the way to Z:

  A strange issue came in today from some users. At least two Windows 7 x64 boxes that have duplicate mappings of a network drive. The drive is not mapped with a log in script, but done manual through "Map Network Drive". Everything has been fine for months, but all of the sudden, Explorer looks like this: Files (\\fileServerPath) (S:) Files (\\fileServerPath) (T:) Files (\\fileServerPath) (U:) Files (\\fileServerPath) (V:) Files (\\otherServerPath) (W:) Files (\\fileServerPath) (X:) Files (\\fileServerPath) (Y:) Files (\\fileServerPath) (Z:) There are some other networks drives mixed in there that did not duplicate. The drive is normally mapped to S:\, but it decided to make its way to Z:. What is going on here?   I'm kinda like the maid... I don't do Windows. But thanks to new things we're implementing, I'm now attempting replicating a single zone from our AD cluster. We had this working just fine but someone had to "adjust" it. That broke the replication completely. We've gotten that restarted but now a different DC is showing as the SOA. Does it matter which of the domain controllers is listed as the SOA? The contents of the zone file appear to be correct. Part of me says "Good enough. Leave it be." but the rest of me doesn't want a 3AM phone call. So does anyone know if it matters which DC is listed as the SOA?

• FTP blocked by firewall on windows 8.1 update 1 public network

  I've recently upgraded to Windows 8.1 u1. I connect to VPN to one of my projects, over which I connect to FTP server (using Total Commander 8.51a). Now, when I try to connect, Total Commander hangs on "Download" (in case of passive connection on "PASV" command). I've figured out that the problem is somehow caused by firewall, because it works if I disable firewall or I set the VPN network location to "private" (which I don't want, it is not enough trusted network for me) I tried to add total commander to firewall exception for total commander, both to inbound and outbound rule, but with no success. I have no more ideas how to configure the firewall to make FTP work properly, can you plese help me? thanks in advance.

  Are there any pre-created Autounattend.xml files for Windows 7 unattended installation x86? I have been experimenting and creating the XML file but I am always being prompted to choose which hard disk to format. I can't seem to add in the script to automate that process. I tried adding the DiskConfiguration portion but the installation keeps giving me error that my diskID is incorrect. How do I resolve this issue? Is there any pre-created Autounattend.xml file that automates everything? I want it to work for VMware virtual machine. Currently, VMware creates its own default disk. So RT Seven Lite only works for normal computer and not VMware.

  I have a Windows 2003 web server with a tree of folders that contains around 100GB of small images. I need to update the permissions on this folder to add a new user with access. I tried to do this by right clicking on the folder and adding the new user but the process never completed. I left it running for around an hour but it started to heavily impact the peformance of the server. Is there any other way to change these folder permissions without affecting server performance? • "The network path was not found" - shortening the delay before Windows tries again

  If I try to connect (over Windows file sharing) to a machine that has gone to sleep, I get a timeout followed by "The network path was not found". If I then wake the machine and try again, I still get "The network path was not found" because the connection failure has been cached. If I wait a while (about 30 seconds?) and then try again I can connect successfully. I understand this behaviour. My question is: is there any way to shorten the delay before I can try the connection again?

• Windows 7 64 bit will hesitate and the screen will go black

  I am running windows 7 64 bit with 2 monitors. Several time a day the system will freeze up for about 5 seconds and the screens will go black. After the 5 seconds are up, the system continues to function properly. I get no error messages that pop up and all the applications I am running handle it fine. All the devices appear fine, my drivers are up to date and nothing is jumping out at me in event viewer. What are the next troubleshooting steps I can take?

  Every time I start Outlook 2007 SP2 on my Windows 7 box Outlook will look like its loading fine, then I get this error message: cannot start microsoft office outlook. cannot open the outlook window and outlook will close. I was able to get outlook to start by using outlook.exe /resetnavpane in the Start-Search box, a nice tip which I got from this social.microsoft.com page. But it didn't fix the problem since outlook is still complaining when it starts after a reboot. What can I do to get outlook to startup normally?

  So recently my computer started turning my screen monitors off after a while without activity, if I move the mouse or hit the keyboard they turn back on. I just want them to stay on.   Is there a way to disable or bypass the "Welcome" screen I see when I'm using RDC to log in to a machine using saved credentials? I have startup task which launches an RDP session automatically to localhost when the machine boots. This works, except that the remote desktop window stops and waits for an "OK" on the Welcome screen: MACHINENAME-A.B.C.D(Server ID:Console 0) Welcome [OK] This screen is preventing me from automating this login. Assume machine A can route to machine B and machine B can route to machine C. If machine A needs to route to machine C, we can setup a relay on machine B which can pivot data back and forth for us using command redirectors and spl filetype pipe. Assume: machine C has nc -nlvp 3306 -e cmd.exe machine A has nc -nlvp 80 IF machine B was Linux we could have done mkfifo pipe nc -nv 127.0.0.1 80 0<pipe | nc -nv 127.0.0.1 3306 1>pipe so on machine B if we do nc -nv 127.0.0.1 80 0<&4 | nc -nv 127.0.0.1 3306 1>&4 Per this site, I should be able to achieve what I can with Linux, but unfortunately it is not working.

  I have a Swedish Windows 7 Home Premium on my PC, and I really want to change system language to English. I know that Home Premium can't change system language (only W7 Ultimate does that), so I consider buying an English version and make a clean install. However I do have many settings, programs etc that I don't want to lose. I therefore have two questions: Can I take a backup of my Swedish W7 Home Premium, install the English W7 Home Premium and then restore everything back to normal, except the system language is now English? Can I take a backup of my Swedish W7 Home Premium, install W7 Ultimate and then restore everything back to normal (now with the option to change system language)? Thanks!

• Kubuntu guest on Windows 8.1 Hyper-V won't shut down completely

  I've got a Windows 8.1 Professional laptop with Hyper-V installed, and a Kubuntu 14.04 Desktop VM. When I shutdown the Kubuntu VM, most of the time it gets to the logo screen, and just sits there. It's not frozen, because I can see the glow around the logo brighten and fade. I have installed the four Hyper-V modules, and lsmod shows them all running fine before the shutdown. Also, once it's stuck on the logo screen, if I send a CTL-ALT-DEL to the VM, it restarts immediately. Does anyone have any idea where I'd begin troubleshooting this? UPDATE: I've disabled the startup and shutdown screens, and now can see this output when it's stopped. Hopefully this sheds more light on the problem.
