• Login and redirect to user home page [migrated]

  The problem I can't currently solve is when a user logs in. They arrive at the site (index.php) and enter username and password, which gets submitted via a Post form back to index.php - if there are incorrect details then they get an error message. But if successful then I would like them to be taken to their user home page - but I can't do this! I am left presenting them with a link to the home page, which is more than a little clunky. Seems there must be an obviously solution - never seen a site before that didn't redirect! Not sure is the answer is PHp, HTML, or Javascript.

  Possible Duplicate: Explaining interfaces to beginning programmers? I searched on stackoverflow and here for a good example to teach java interfaces in a beginners class. I found the following post: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/416331/java-interfaces The Official Java-Tutorial and the references feature examples that are quite good but I would need a very simple example to start with for my class. I don't think the offical tutorial is the best resource for absolute beginners. The students are easily confused, and the most effective example would help. Any pointers or experience in teaching java interfaces?

• Dual-boot question involving separate HD and windows 8

  I use an external HD with Ubuntu+GRUB on it. This allows me to effectively "hijack" most systems. Basically it's a permanent LiveUSB - my own system wherever I go. I use it for recovery mainly when Windows systems muck up, and for portability (as I can have my system on the go, without effecting the pc I'm borrowing, much like a LiveCD). I'm about to update to Windows 8 now [on a new, different computer]. Is there any special measure I should take to do this? I've seen a similar post here, but the OP had both harddrives plugged in simultaneously - that's not exactly my setup. Thank you :) EDIT: added for clarification that this is for a totally new computer.

• Caching preventing users seeing site updates

  I'm experiencing a caching issue I can't explain. This is happening across browsers, IPs and ISPs. If a user force-refreshes, they see the new content. If they then refresh or return to the page, the old one displays. I've tried using headers via PHP such as header( 'Expires: Sat, 26 Jul 1997 05:00:00 GMT' ); header( 'Last-Modified: ' . gmdate( 'D, d M Y H:i:s' ) . ' GMT' ); header( 'Cache-Control: no-store, no-cache, must-revalidate' ); header( 'Cache-Control: post-check=0, pre-check=0', false ); header( 'Pragma: no-cache' ); Laid out correctly, at the very beginning of the file. The problem persists. A pan-ISP proxy is unlikely. Suggestions?

• Android Loading Screen: How do I go about using a stack to load elements, and the option of incrementing the size counter?

  I have some problems with figuring out what value I should put in the function: int value_needed_to_figure_out = X; ProgressBar.incrementProgressBy(value_needed_to_figure_out); I've been researching about loading screens and how to use them. Some examples I've seen have implemented Thread.sleep() in a Handler.post(new Runnable()) function. To me, I got most of that concept of using the Handler to update the ProgressBar, while pretending to do some heavy crunching work. So, I kept looking. I have read this thread here: How do I load chunks of data from an assest manager during a loading screen? It said that I can try using a stack it needs to load, and adding a size counter as I add elements to the stack. What does it mean? This is the part where I'm totally stumped. If anyone would provide some hints, I'll gladly appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

• Upload image file: is compression on client side already possible?

  When offering photo file uploading, usually the user will have badly compressed and huge (10+ megapixels) JPEG files from their cameras or phones. On the server side, these files will get re-compressed to something like 800x600px and JPEG quality 7 or 8. Is it (already) possible to do that re-compression on the client side? So that I would only need to transmit some 100kB (800x600px) and not 3 MB or more. Something like: (1) With javascript's new FileSystem API ( http://slides.html5rocks.com/#filewriter ) it would be possible to read the photo file's data into client side JS. (2) Then it would be necessary to re-encode the JPEG data, which is possible, but I counld not find any library for that (yet). Anybody knows such a library? (3) Last step would be to POST the re-compressed JPEG data to the server side for storage and get a URL to the stored photo file back from the server for inclusion into the client's HTML. I am looking for some jQuery plugin, other JS library or example web page that does this.

• Archive update fails while upgrading from 10.10 to 11.04

  I tried upgrading from Maverick to Natty, but the fetching of packages failed, when I tried to do a partial upgrade. It's displaying fetching complete, but actually it fails and I get following errors: Could not download the upgrades The upgrade has aborted. Please check your Internet connection or installation media and try again. All files downloaded so far are kept. Failed to fetch http://in.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/m/mesa/libgl1-mesa-dri_7.10.1~git20110215.cc1636b6-0ubuntu1_i386.deb 404 Not Found I can't post more hyperlinks as per restrictions. • Verifying that a user comes from a 'partner' site?

  We're building a Drupal module that is going to be given to trusted 'corporate partners'. When a user clicks on a link, he should be redirected to our site as if he's a logged in user. How should I verify that the user is indeed coming from that site? It does not look like 'HTTP_REFERER' is enough because it appears it can be faked. We are providing these partner sites with API Keys. If I receive the API-key as a POST value, sent over https, would that be a sufficient indicator that the user is a genuine partner-site user?

• Grub-Customizer made Windows 7 disappear from Gurb2

  I am running dual-boot Ubuntu 12.04/Windows7. I wanted to change the boot order in Grub2 to have Windows on top of the list. I installed Grub-Customizer on Ubuntu 12.04 using the following terminal commands copied from another post: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:adabbas/1stppa sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install grub-customizer After installing, I launched Grub-Customizer from Dash Home. Windows 7 does not appear in the list. I closed the program and was prompted to save the current settings. Upon rebooting, Windows did not appear in the Grub2 list. I went back into Grub-Customizer and clicked the "Revert" button but still no Windows 7. Does anyone know how I can fix this?

  When you create a sand boxed solution for SharePoint 2010 in Visual Studio 2010 and try to deploy the solution , you could get the error “Error occurred in deployment step ‘Retract Solution’: Cannot start service SPUserCodeV4 on computer”(See the Picture1 below). In order to fix this , you need to go to Central Administration -> System Settings -> Manage services on server and start service “Microsoft SharePoint Foundation User Code Service” If you are developing SharePoint on DC(Domain controller),you need to check the solution from my previous post. • Duplicating content from another site and adding value (summaries, statistics) - ranking and courtesy

  I am working on a site that takes a governmental data base, provides a number of statistical and other summaries and also post the original data. However this data (mostly long pieces of text) is also published on the official governmental site (without the added value of summaries). Should I worry about google ranking due to this duplication? What is the preferred way to point to the official source of the information? There is no advertisement on my site. My site is ".com". The governmental site is ".bg".

• How can I solve display glitches and poor performance with ATI fglrx driver on my ThinkPad X100e?

  Hi all, I noticed that video performance on my Thinkpad X100e was very poor compared to Windows 7, so I installed the ATI fglrx proprietary drivers by using the "Additional Drivers" dialogue box. The system has an ATI Radeon Mobility HD 3200 chip. The result of installing the drivers is pretty devastatingly negative, with symptoms such as skewed content in windows, browser tabs and text boxes failing to refresh when their content changes. In fact, please excuse typos in this post, because I can't really see what I am typing. :) I also notice that HD video playback performance is no better - perhaps even worse - than prior to installing the drivers. Example of what I see: Here's the output of fglrxinfo: display: :0.0 screen: 0 OpenGL vendor string: ATI Technologies Inc. OpenGL renderer string: ATI Radeon HD 3200 Graphics OpenGL version string: 3.3.10237 Compatibility Profile Context Output of lspci | grep -i vga: 01:05.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RS780M/RS780MN [Radeon HD 3200 Graphics] I'm on Ubuntu 10.10 with kernel 2.6.35-22-generic-pae. • Exadata - Following up on customer deployments

  Over the last year or so I've been visiting customers who have had Exadata deployed and have been enjoying the benefits the platform has been providing. Benefits include greater performance, consolidating multiple databases, data compression and time to value improvements. Most often I hear my reports run faster. One hospitality company report times that used to take 3 hrs now run in 12 seconds. Another services company reported all their batch reports taking 11hrs now run in 38 mins. Also reported that their transactions post faster, and batch updates run faster. So what does that mean? For most of them it means that now they have a platform that can handle growth. Most are growing 15% organically, but I've also seen 40% growth thru acquisition. Exadata has been keeping up with the additional data demand by customers leveraging compression and the smart storage features.

• How do I share my jQuery plugin with the world?

  I made a plugin for jQuery, which I think is quite useful. It combines an animated colours plugin with an easings plugin, and adds a completely new feature of being able to refer to colours numerically (more useful in hex notation, so 0xff00cc for example) and therefore manipulate them mathematically more easily. I created a repository on github, and it sits there, nobody looks at it. Mostly, I would like people to look at it, use it, and improve it, so I can use the improvements and so on. I think this idea of numerically manipulating colors could be interesting. It makes it easy to change the hue without changing the saturation for example. Combined with animated colors, I think something interesting could be done, but I don't know what exactly. How do I let people know it (or any other project) is there..? I was going to post it on http://plugins.jquery.com which is currently down. Are there any other outlets for this kind of code?

• XNA Monogame GameState Management not deserilaizing

  I am having some trouble serializing/deserializing in a little game I am doing to teach myself monogame. Basically, I am using the gamestatemnanagement resources common to monogame (screen manager etc). Then I am serializing my screen manager component and all associated screens in the OnDeactivated method: protected override void OnDeactivated(Object sender, EventArgs args) { foreach (GameplayScreen screen in mScreenManager.GetScreens()) { DataManager.SaveData(screen.Level.LevelData); } mScreenManager.SerializeState(); } The Save data bit is to do with something else. Then I then override OnActivated to de serialize protected override void OnActivated(Object sender, EventArgs args) { //System.Diagnostics.Debug.WriteLine("here activating"); mScreenManager.DeserializeState(); } However, when this runs it just loads a blank screen - it goes into the game initialize and the game draw method, but doesnt go down into the screens initialize or draw methods. I have no idea why this might be - any help would be greatly appreciated. I am not the only one who has encountered this - I found this post also - https://monogame.codeplex.com/discussions/391117

  I run a fishkeeping website based on a WordPress (PHP) CMS. I've recently put a fairly complex "filter" into place which searches my content for mentions of fish species profiles and turns them into an active link. As such, I'm using /?p=1703 or whatever the ID is. What I'd like to know is: how much will this affect my SEO rating/ranking? Will it be detrimental if I don't rewrite the function?
