  I don't know haskell syntax, but I know some FP concepts (like algebraic data types, pattern matching, higher-order functions ect). Can someone explain please, what does this code mean: data Tree ? = Leaf ? | Fork ? (Tree ?) (Tree ?) rotateR tree = case tree of Fork q (Fork p a b) c -> Fork p a (Fork q b c) As I understand, first line is something like Tree-type declaration (but I don't understand it exactly). Second line includes pattern matching (I don't understand as well why do we need to use pattern matching here). And third line does something absolutely unreadable for non-haskell developer. I've found definition of Fork as fork (f,g) x = (f x, g x) but I can't move further anymore.

  As of right now, I am still shaky on classes, so I don't want to use any classes for my site. I'm still practicing with classes. But how can I implement the MVC idea without classes? Would this work for a MVC? index.php (the view) index_controller.php index_model.php Is this right for what a MVC should be? View: show html, css, forms Controller: get $_POST from forms and any data from the user, get info from db Model: do all the functions, insert/delete in db, etc Basically separate the HTML/css for the view, all the data collecting for the controller, and the logic for the model. And just connect them all using require_once.

My project source tree looks like somewhat like this test$~: tree . . |-- folder | |-- hello.cpp | `-- hello.h `-- main.cpp 1 directory, 3 files test$~: The file main.cpp contains the main() function and all the functions invoked by main.cpp lie in the directory named folder So far in all my little projects I never had to put some source code under a sub-directory. What I am looking for, in short, is some gcc command for recursive compilation in sub-directories and their subdirectories and so on... This command should be invoked from the home directory of the code project.

• exec() function doesn't rule svn checkout

  Hi, I'm writing some functions in php using exec() to interrogate a svn. The commands exec("svn list ".$myurl) works. Now, I try to get a path on a svn repository with the checkout command. When I put the command "svn checkout http://core.wordress.org/tags/2.9.2/ last-version" directly in the console, it works. But when I do this from a php script using exec(), like this : exec("svn checkout ".$myurl, $dir) it doesn't work. Have you an idea ??

  Hi, I am curious, do new compilers use some extra features built into new CPUs such as MMX SSE,3DNow! and so? I mean, in original 8086 there was even no FPU, so compiler that old cannot even use it, but new compilers can, since FPU is part of every new CPU. So, does new compilers use new features of CPU?   I've often wondered about this. I'm not looking for legal advice, just casual opinions ;) If some company publishes an API on the web for their closed-source library, would it be legal for another party to release an open-source implementation of that API? Are function declarations considered source code? Take GNU implementing the UNIX APIs, for example. The UNIX standard gives the following function declaration and defines its required behaviour in English: char * mktemp(char *template); Now, consider an API that lists and declares and describes several thousand (more much complex) functions, enums, etc.; an API which defines a solution to a non-trival set of problems. If an open-source project publishes C headers that copy (verbatim) the function definitions contained in the closed-source company's published API, doesn't that violate some sort copyright law?

I am trying to find all available API's that are available in the flash ocx. I am unable to find any documentation for the functions in the IShockwaveFlash interface. I know that Adobe doesn't have a documentation for using flash in VC++ but I was wondering if anyone can point me to a place where I can find an UNOFFICIAL documentation for flash.ocx or code samples as the only API that I could find and I'm currently using is "PutMovie".   I'm using the built-in ajax functionality of MVC2. Basically the user types a search query, and on every key press a set of results for the query is shown. This works fine in almost all cases, but sometimes the server is a bit slow with a single response, and thus the result for the next key stroke is returned before the previous. When the previous key stroke result set is finally returned to the client it will overwrite the results for the newer search query that should actually have been shown. My code follows more or less along these lines: <% using (Ajax.BeginForm("SearchUser", null, new AjaxOptions() { UpdateTargetId = "findUserResults" }, new { id = "findUserAjaxForm" })) {%> Every keystroke submits this form and thus outputs the results in the 'findUserResults' element.   Hi! I need to calculate an end date based on todays date and a number of months. For example, todays date 04/01/2010 and the number of months is 6. Are there any functions I can use to do some math that would return "10/01/2010"?   I heavily rely on Opera's speed dial and password management features. Lack of these two features is really stopping me from switching to another web browser such as Chrome or Firefox. Opera's password management has two unique characteristics which I rely on heavily: It saves passwords on all pages, (apparently) despite the page's meta data asking not to save passwords. It offers keyboard shortcut and button to automatically fill in username/passwords and all other fields in a login form, then automatically submit the form.   Hi guys, Just a general question really. I have taken on the management of an application written in C# MVC that uses the asp.net membership api. With this a user can register, change their password, etc. My application consists of two areas, administrator and user. This adminstrator's area has lots of custom admin functionality relating to the application, however has no functionality utilizing the membership api. I want to be able to use the membership api for user management functions such as resetting a password of a user who has forgotten theirs, lock users out, etc. Are there any resources or articles out there that delve into this aspect of using the membership api?   I've noticed that when using $.post() in jquery that the default contentType is application/x-www-form-urlencoded - when my asp.net mvc code needs to have contentType=application/json (See this question for why I must use application/json: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2792603/aspnet-mvc-why-is-modelstate-isvalid-false-the-x-field-is-required-when-that) How can I make $.post() send contentType=application/json? I already have a large number of $.post() functions, so I don't want to change to $.ajax() because it would take too much time If I try $.post(url, data, function(), "json") It still has contentType=application/x-www-form-urlencoded. So what exactly does the "json" param do if it does not change the contenttype to json? If I try $.ajaxSetup({ contentType: "application/json; charset=utf-8" }); That works but affects every single $.get and $.post that I have and causes some to break. So is there some way that I can change the behavior of $.post() to send contentType=application/json?

  Hi, I've got a C/C++ question, can I reuse functions across different object files or projects without writing the function headers twice? (one for defining the function and one for declaring it) I don't know much about C/C++, Delphi and D. I assume that in Delphi or D, you would just write once what arguments a function takes and then you can use the function across diferent projects. And in C you need the function declaration in header files *again??, right?. Is there a good tool that will create header files from C sources? I've got one, but it's not preprocessor-aware and not very strict. And I've had some macro technique that worked rather bad. • CodeIgniter Validation in Library does not accept callback.

  Hey guys, my problem is the following: I am writing a login library. This library has a function _validation() and this uses the validation library to validate the data. With using normal validation methods it works just fine, but using a callback function just does not work. It is not called. I call it like this. $this->CI->form_validation->set_rules('user', 'Username', 'required|callback__check_user'); The functions name is _check_user and it uses the username _check_user($user). The function itself works fine and I can also call it in the class ($this-_check_user('username')) with a working result. I am guessing, there might be a problem because I am not workin in a controller so I have a CI instance $this-CI instead of just the original instance $this- Does anyone have a clue how to fix this? • Where are the readonly/const in .NET?

  In C++ you'll see void func(const T& t) everywhere. However, i havent seen anything similar in .NET. Why? I have notice a nice amount of parameters using struct. But i see no functions with readonly/const. In fact now that i tried it i couldnt use those keywords to make a function that promises to not modify a list being passed in. Is there no way to promise the caller that this function will never modify the contents of list? Is there no way to say to call code and say this list should never be modified? (I know i can clone the list or look at documentation but i like compile errors sometime)

• If free() knows the length of my array, why can't I ask for it in my own code?

Why can't I get in on the magic, as a C programmer? Where does free() get its free (har-har) knowledge from?

  Hi all I have a scenario in which I need to design online keyboard with buttons implementing different mathematical functions in ASP.NET. For example 1) A button called "Fraction" Onclicking= should display A numerator and a denominator separated by '-' with empty fields. Just as we write fractions manually. Now when the user clicks on this button the cursor should focus on numerator displaying 'the division line' and then by pressing 'Down' arrow key(on computr keyboard) should focus on denominator allowing users to enter both fields. Keeping it simple the user should be able to toggle between numerator and denominator. Please help me with some sample code. I have got no idea. Thanks in advance
