I also had issue that my camera was not getting detected in ubuntu. Preparing the System for Installation In Linux, kernel modules must be compiled with the same header files that the kernel itself was compiled with. Since WinDriver installs kernel modules, it must compile with the header files of the Linux kernel during the installation process. Therefore, before you install WinDriver for Linux, verify that the Linux source code and the file version.h are installed on your machine: Install the Linux kernel source code: If you have yet to install Linux, install it, including the kernel source code, by following the instructions for your Linux distribution. If Linux is already installed on your machine, check whether the Linux source code was installed. You can do this by looking for 'linux' in the /usr/src directory. If the source code is not installed, either install it, or reinstall Linux with the source code, by following the instructions for your Linux distribution. Install version.h: The file version.h is created when you first compile the Linux kernel source code. Some distributions provide a compiled kernel without the file version.h. Requirements: accessible to normal users accessible to root always loaded, not only for bash (gnome-terminal does not start a bash by default) to work on Ubuntu, Debian and optionally Red Hat great if addition could be easily scripted So far here is the no-list: /etc/profile.d/java.sh - not executed if you start a new console from gnome-terminal /etc/profile - same as above ~/.profile - current user only, also any solution assuming ~ would not be acceptable because home directory could be on NIS, and JAVA_HOME could be different.

My gdm login screen always appears on the second monitor even if it is switched off. My question is how to force gdm to show login screen always on primary monitor with resolution 1280x1024?     hostname -f says "hostname: the specified hostname is invalid". The hostname (FQDN) specified in /etc/hostname is also listed in /etc/hosts and is pingable. No actual DNS server yet of the host knows. Is this a reason of the error reported or something else? (the OS is Ubuntu 10.04 Server). Update: registering the host at a DNS server (so that the name can be successfully resolved via Internet) did not help.

  • Computer name not appearing on network

    I can connect to other computers on my home network (ubuntu + OSX machines) using the IP address, but I can't connect using the netbios name. On the mac the name appears in Finder but if I try to connect (goconnect to server smb://[email protected]) it doesn't work, while smb://[email protected] does. Same with ssh, ping and afp between the macs. This is a intermittent problem. It has worked in the past.

  • Unable to change keyboard shortcut

    I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 with KDE. I'm trying to setup my desktops with shortcuts alt+1 for desktop 1 and alt+2 for desktop 2 etc. The problem is that Page Settings refuses to change to the desired shortcut and gives no message as to why. When I press the alt key I see "Alt+" appear in the the box but when I add 1 it reverts back to "Input". Why won't KDE let me change the keyboard shortcut and what can I do to solve the problem?
