  • Why are my rails tests so slow?

    Is it normal for my test suite to take 5 seconds just to launch? Even when running an empty suite it still takes this long. Is it because it's firing up a new instance of rails on each run? If so, is there anyway to keep it persistent? I'm using Test::Unit with Shoulda.

Of course there's an error. Look at the double single quotes in there. What the heck could be causing that? I tried using adDBDate and adDBTime as data types for the date parameter, and they give the same results. When I make the parameters adParamInputOutput, then I get this: declare @p1 int set @p1=default declare @p2 datetime set @p2=default exec ErrorAlertCollect @ErrorAlertID=@p1 output,@CreateTime=@p2 output select @p1, @p2 Running that as a separate batch yields: Msg 156, Level 15, State 1, Line 2 Incorrect syntax near the keyword 'default'. Msg 156, Level 15, State 1, Line 4 Incorrect syntax near the keyword 'default'. What the heck? SQL Server doesn't support this kind of syntax. You can only use the DEFAULT keyword in the actual SP execution statement. I should note that removing the extra single quotes from the above statement makes the SP run fine. ... Oh my. I just figured it out. I guess it's worth posting anyway.

  • problem with clear: right;

    Hi Everyone, I'm having a problem with this page http://www.gwynfryncottages.com/news.php The .blog-footer div needs to clear on the right to correct for the height of the pictures introducing clear:right; causes the huge gap to appear on the page in FF and IE. I'm at a loss, I've tried numerous ideas to get around the problem and at this point i've been staring at it too long to see the problem clearly. Can anyone help me out. Thanks in advance.

  • Matching non-[a-zA-Z] characters in PHP regex

    I have some strings that need a-strippin': ÃœT: 9.996636,76.294363 Tons of long strings of location codes. A literal regex in PHP won't match them, IE $pattern = /ÃœT:/; echo preg_replace($pattern, "", $row['location']); Won't match/strip anything. (To know it's working, /T:/ does strip the last bit of that string). What's the encoding error going on here? Alternately, I would accept a concise way to take out just the numbers.

  • Move options between multiple lists

    We currently have a form with the standard multi-select functionality of "here are the available options, here are the selected options, here are some buttons to move stuff back and forth." However, the client now wants the ability to not just select certain items, but to also categorize them. For example, given a list of books, they want to not just select the ones they own, but also the ones they've read, the ones they would like to read, and the ones they've heard about. (All examples fictional.) Thankfully, a selected item can only be in one category at a time. I can find many examples of moving items between listboxes, but not a single one for moving items between multiple listboxes. To add to the complication, the form needs to have two sets of list+categories, e.g. a list of movies that need to be categorized in addition to the aforementioned books. EDIT: Having now actually sat down to try to code the non-javascripty bits, I need to revise my question, because I realized that multiple select lists won't really work from the "how do I inform the server about all this lovely new information" standpoint. So the html code is now a pseudo-listbox, i.e. an unordered list (ul) displayed in a box with a scrollbar, and each list item (<li>) has a set of five radio buttons (unselected/own/read/like/heard). My task is still roughly the same: how to take this one list and make it easy to categorize the items, in such a way that the user can tell at a glance what is in what category. (The pseudo-listbox has some of the same disadvantages as a multi-select listbox, namely it's hard to tell what's selected if the list is long enough to scroll.) The dream solution would be a drag-and-drop type thing, but at this point even buttons would be OK. Another modification (a good one) is that the client has revised the lists, so the longest is now "only" 62 items long (instead of the many hundreds they had before). The categories will still mostly contain zero, one, or two selected items, possibly a couple more if the user was overzealous. As far as OS and stuff, the site is in classic asp (quit snickering!), the server-side code is VBScript, and so far we've avoided the various Javascript libraries by the simple expedient of almost never using client-side scripting. This one form for this one client is currently the big exception. Give 'em an inch and they want a mile... Oh, and I have to add: I suck at Javascript, or really at any C-descendant language. Curly braces give me hives. I'd really, really like something I can just copy & paste into my page, maybe tweak some variable names, and never look at it again.     I'm using identity specification for a table of sql server 2012. Let we have two Insert and then two Delete operation. After these operation primary key should start from 1, but it will start from 3. I'm worry about this problem causing no place for inserting new item after long time. Does "Sql-server 2012" fill these gaps by itself? If it is possible, please refer me a documentation ( for example from microsoft)

However, one issue I am having is accepting payment from customers using local debit cards.   • Something like PPerl for Ruby?

    I've used PPerl for deamon like processes. This program turns ordinary perl scripts into long running daemons, making subsequent executions extremely fast. It forks several processes for each script, allowing many proceses to call the script at once. Does anyone know of something like this for ruby? Right now I am planing on using a wrapper around curl to call a REST WebService written in Sinatra running on JRuby. I'm hoping there is a simpler option.

    Hello I have a gridView which I use to show some pictures on (small thumb of diffrent levels). When the user finishes one level, I would like to change the thumb for that level. (Somehow show that it has been completed). I created two thumbs for each level. One is the original and one that shows that the level is completed. But how can i change the source of the images?   • How do you efficiently generate a list of K non-repeating integers between 0 and an upper bound N

    The question gives all necessary data: what is an efficient algorithm to generate a sequence of K non-repeating integers within a given interval. The trivial algorithm (generating random numbers and, before adding them to the sequence, looking them up to see if they were already there) is very expensive if K is large and near enough to N. The algorithm provided here seems more complicated than necessary, and requires some implementation. I've just found another algorithm that seems to do the job fine, as long as you know all the relevant parameters, in a single pass.

  • Delayed responses for cURL SSL PUTs/POSTs (php) (NSS vs OpenSSL)

    I have two Fedora-based apache webservers making the same SSL PUT/POST calls with php/cURL. One works fine, but with the other the call succeeds but takes a VERY long time to return a response (~10 min). (GETs don't seem affected) The working server's cURL uses OpenSSL for SSL, while the non-working version uses a later version of cURL that uses NSS for SSL I know nothing about SSL implementations or their effect on cURL. What would cause such a significant delay in SSL PUT/POST responses? Any suggestions appreciated- Thanks--

  • Is SQL DATEDIFF(year, ..., ...) an Expensive Computation?

    I'm trying to optimize up some horrendously complicated SQL queries because it takes too long to finish. In my queries, I have dynamically created SQL statements with lots of the same functions, so I created a temporary table where each function is only called once instead of many, many times - this cut my execution time by 3/4. So my question is, can I expect to see much of a difference if say, 1,000 datediff computations are narrowed to 100?

  • How can I prevent ListBox from selecting an item when I right-click it?

    The tricky part is that each item has a ContextMenu that I still want to open when it is right-clicked (I just don't want it selecting it). In fact, if it makes things any easier, I don't want any automatic selection at all, so if there's some way I can disable it entirely that would be just fine. I'm thinking of just switching to an ItemsControl actually, so long as I can get virtualization and scrolling to work with it.

    I'm a bit fed up with the current navigator (TomTom) as it turned to adware after six months of use. "Please buy new maps at www.tomtom.com, click this button to see what you wanted to do". Is there any (good) OSS navigation software with support for proprietary hardware? I'm perfectly happy to purchase separate maps and hardware for the software as long as I don't have to give my money to TomTom or Navigon.
