• Get averages from pre-aggregated reports in mongodb

  I've got a database with pre-aggregated metrics similar to the one outlined in this use case: http://docs.mongodb.org/manual/use-cases/pre-aggregated-reports/ I have a daily collection with a subdocument for hour and minute metrics, and a 'metadata.date' entry for midnight on the day it represents. I also have a monthly collection with a day subdocument for each day. If I want to get an average of a metric over the past eight or so days how can I do that with the aggregation framework? Is the aggregation framework not the right tool for this since it's already pre-aggregated?

• Generic object load function for scala

  I'm starting on a Scala application which uses Hibernate (JPA) on the back end. In order to load an object, I use this line of code: val addr = s.load(classOf[Address], addr_id).asInstanceOf[Address]; Needless to say, that's a little painful. I wrote a helper class which looks like this: import org.hibernate.Session class DataLoader(s: Session) { def loadAddress(id: Long): Address = { return s.load(classOf[Address], id).asInstanceOf[Address]; } ... } So, now I can do this: val dl = new DataLoader(s) val addr = dl loadAddress(addr_id) Here's the question: How do I write a generic parametrized method which can load any object using this same pattern? i.e val addr = dl load[Address](addr_id) (or something along those lines.) I'm new to Scala so please forgive anything here that's especially hideous.

• Expose jar resources over web

  I have a web-service (with Spring-WS). I have a jar with several schemas (schema1.xsd, schema2.xsd and schema3.xsd) which I include in my web service. Is there a way to expose the schemas from the jar through a servlet somehow in my web-service wep app? My Spring MessageDispatcherServlet is mapped to /ws/ I would like my schemas to be exposed to /schemas/schema1.xsd /schemas/schema2.xsd and so on. I have an idea how to do it with a servlet, but it's too verbose and there has to be a nicer way. The way I am thinking is have a servlet filter and everything that hits /schemas/ check if it is in my list of allowed resources and display it. This has to be a server agnostic solution. (For instance http://tuckey.org/urlrewrite/ will not work). Thanks.

  I'm programmatically registering a group of services that all implement the same interface, IRule. I have another service that looks like this: public class MyService { private IEnumerable<IRule> _rules; public MyService(IEnumerable<IRule> rules){ _rules = rules; } } Hammett posted something that looked like what I wanted, http://hammett.castleproject.org/?p=257. I changed the signature to IRule[] and tried the ArrayResolver trick in the post but that didn't work for me(note, it didn't break anything either). Anyone know how to programmatically register a component like the code I posted above?

• jQuery plugin and prototype class

  Hi I am converting some prototype javascript to jQuery javascript. In prototype we can do Class.create to create a class. However, jQuery doesn't provide this. So I was thinking to rewrite the class into a jQuery plugin. Is this the best practice? My concern is that if I do all for the class, then I will add a lot of things to jQuery object. The other alternative is to use some extra lines of codes I found http://ejohn.org/blog/simple-javascript-inheritance/#postcomment. Then you can do the following: var Person = Class.extend({ init: function(isDancing){ this.dancing = isDancing; }, dance: function(){ return this.dancing; } }); Which one is better, please advise. • C++ allocate objects on heap of base class with protected constructors via inheritance

  I have a class with protected constructor: class B { protected: B(){}; }; Now I derive from it and define two static functions and I manage to actually create objects of the class B, but not on the heap: class A : public B { public: static B createOnStack() {return B();} //static B* createOnHeap() {return new B;} //Compile time Error on VS2010 }; B b = A::createOnStack(); //This works on VS2010! The question is: 1) Is VS2010 wrong in allowing the first case? 2) Is it possible to create objects of B without modifying B in any way (no friendship and no extra functions). • IE7 jQuery(document).ready() problem

  I have a page that works perfectly fine in Firefox, but is throwing an error in IE. I am loading jQuery dynamically (if it is not already loaded), and then doing some stuff in the jQuery(document).ready() block. However, IE throws the dreaded "Object expected" error when it hits the jQuery(document).ready() block. You can view the full page code here: http://www.pastie.org/977767 IE is throwing the error right at jQuery(document).ready(). Any ideas as to what is going here? Again, this works perfectly fine in Firefox. It seems almost like IE thinks jQuery is loaded but it really isn't yet or that jQuery is still loading when the jQuery(document).ready() block is encountered?

  Hi, I have a form with 2 textareas; the first one allows user to send HTML Code, the second allows to send CSS Code. I have to verify with a PHP function, if the language is correct. If the language is correct, for security, i have to check that there is not PHP code or SQL Injection or whatever. What do you think ? Is there a way to do that ? Where can I find this kind of function ? Is "HTML Purifier" http://htmlpurifier.org/ a good solution ?

• JQuery tools overlay opens at the top of page instead of overlaying in IE, works fine in FF/Chrome

  Here is the sandbox version of my site: http://3.latest.truxmapper.appspot.com/ To reproduce the error, hover over to the toolbar and go to Support -- FAQ. In Chrome/FF, this will work as expected. In IE, the background image will quickly move to the center of the page, but when its time to insert the div over the background image, its inserted on top of the page rather than the center of the page. The plugin example ( http://flowplayer.org/tools/overlay/apple.html ) works fine in IE, so i know it ought to be possible. I've tried messing around with the div placement on the html and with the css to no avail. Does anyone know what could be the problem? Thanks!

• Using a custom URL parameter in Wordpress (with permalinks)?

  Hello - Is there a way to perhaps edit .htaccess to add a custom URL parameter to Wordpress, so that the parameter is not stripped out by permalinks? I have a Wordpress site with a page that queries a separate (non-Wordpress) database. I passed the URL parameter "pubID" to display individual books and it is working OK. Example: http://www.uglyducklingpresse.org/catalog/browse/item/?pubID=63 But the individual books are not showing up properly in Google - maybe because they all have the same auto-generated "canonical" URL meta tab - one with the "pubID" parameter stripped out.   Does anyone know of a good online compiler/runtime (for C++, Java, Python, ObjC etc.) that I can access on the web? What I'm looking for is something that would allow me to type in a program in a web form and to run the program and see the results online. (Let's not get into the why for now. Suffice it to say for the moment that I don't always have access to a compiler/runtime, and firing up an IDE is just overkill for testing out some code snippets) I know of codepad.org -- but I'm looking for something better.

• Why is my regex so much slower compiled than interpreted ?

  I have a large and complex C# regex that runs OK when interpreted, but is a bit slow. I'm trying to speed this up by setting RegexOptions.Compiled, and this seems to take about 30 seconds for the first time and instantly after that. I'm trying to negate this by compiling the regex to an assembly first, so my app can be as fast as possible. My problem is when the compiling delay takes place: Regex myComplexRegex = new Regex(regexText, RegexOptions.Compiled); MatchCollection matches = myComplexRegex.Matches(searchText); foreach (Match match in matches) // <--- when the one-time long delay kicks in { } This is making compiling to an assembly basically useless, as I still get the delay on the first foreach call. What I want is for all the compiling delay to be done in advance when I compile to the assembly, not when the user runs the app. Where am I going wrong ? (The code I'm using to compile to an assembly is similar to http://www.dijksterhuis.org/regular-expressions-advanced/ , if that's relevant ).

  I ran testng tests for my test classes, I get the following three types of log output when I run the passing tests. I am using org.testng.AssertJUnit.assertTrue() methods in my tests. [testng] PASSED: testMethod1 on null(test.foo.bar.Class1) [testng] PASSED: testMethod2 on Default test name(test.foo.bar.jar.Class2) [testng] PASSED: testMethod3 Can any one please tell me why for some tests it says "on null" for some it says "on Default test name ... " and for some it does not say anything on the console output. Specifically I want to make it consistent message. Environment : linux Testng framework : 6.3.2beta please advise. thanks.

  So I'm just getting started with Python, and currently working my way through diveintopython.org. The code examples are nice, but the vast majority of them are little four-line snippets, and I want to see a little more of the big picture. As I understand it--and correct me if I'm wrong--each '.py' file becomes a "module", and a group of modules in a directory becomes a "package" (at least, it does if I create a __init__.py file in that directory). What is it if I don't have a __init__.py file? So what does each "module" file look like? Do I generally define only one class in the file? Does anything else go in that file besides the class definition and maybe a handful of import commands?

• How to create a nested form in backbone relational?

  I would like to be able to create nested models at the same time in backbone. I know how to use backbone relational to create the parent model. Then once it is saved, I can create child models through backbone relational. However, I want to be able to create both the parent and child models at the same time, which might not be possible because I can only create the child model once the parent model has already been created. For example, let's say I was creating a forum like the one from the awesome backbone relational tutorial - http://antoviaque.org/docs/tutorials/backbone-relational-tutorial/. I would want to create a thread and a message at the same time(through the click of a single button) rather than create a thread then a message. Is this possible? Is there a better way of doing this that I'm not thinking of?

• Django: HTTPS for just login page?

  I just added this SSL middleware to my site http://www.djangosnippets.org/snippets/85/ which I used to secure only my login page so that passwords aren't sent in clear-text. Of course, when the user navigates away from that page he's suddenly logged out. I understand why this happens, but is there a way to pass the cookie over to HTTP so that users can stay logged in? If not, is there an easy way I can use HTTPS for the login page (and maybe the registration page), and then have it stay on HTTPS if the user is logged in, but switch back to HTTP if the user doesn't log in? There are a lot of pages that are visible to both logged in users and not, so I can't just designate certain pages as HTTP or HTTPS.

• bundle install fails with SSL certificate verification error

  When I run bundle install for my Rails 3 project on Centos 5.5 it fails with an error: Gem::RemoteFetcher::FetchError: SSL_connect returned=1 errno=0 state=SSLv3 read server certificate B: certificate verify failed (https://bb-m.rubygems.org/gems/multi_json-1.3.2.gem) An error occured while installing multi_json (1.3.2), and Bundler cannot continue. Make sure that `gem install multi_json -v '1.3.2'` succeeds before bundling. When I try to install the gem manually (by gem install multi_json -v '1.3.2') it works. The same problem occurs with several other gems. I use RVM (1.12.3), ruby 1.9.2, bundler 1.1.3. How to fix it?

However, I would like to also save the identical data to a second archive table.
