• Best use of new express card on Windows

  I just bought a 48GB SSD express card for my laptop and I am trying to decide how best to use it. I will be running some sort of virtualization (prob VirtualBox) to test / learn Windows Server administration. I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. I have 4GB of RAM and a 7200 RPM SATA hard disk. The express card will read at 115MB/s and write at 65MB/s. So how best to use this new disk? Readyboost, relocate pagefile, store VM disks, mix / match?

• Can I run virtualized 64-bit Operating Systems if my CPU doesn't support VT-X?

  I have installed VMWare 10.0 workstation on my Compaq CQ60-615DX laptop. The Operating System is Windows 7 Home Premium. When I tried to run Ubuntu 14.04 64-bit in a virtual machine in VMWare I get an error saying: This virtual machine is configured for 64-bit guest operating systems. However, 64-bit operation is not possible. This host does not support Intel VT-x. For more detailed information, see http://vmware.com/info?id=152. So I googled and found that I have to enable Intel VT-x. But I found out that my processor doesn't support Intel® Virtualization Technology (VT-x). So am I doomed and can I never run any virtual OS on my laptop? Or can I run 32-bit OSes?

I'm a trainee in company one month ago, and my mission is to migrate 3 physicals servers to a virtualization technology. The company edit softwares for E-learning so there are lots of data like videos, flash and compressed (zip). This is some inventory of the servers: OS: Debian, 2 redhat, apache, php/mysql, sendMail/Dovecot, webmin with virtualmin template to create dynamically the web sites because there is no sysadmin ... The future provider will be responsible of to secure, update and create the virtual machines (outsourcing) and with a RedHat OS's. So i want that you help me to choose a virtualisation technologie (for the i prefer KVM of Redhat RHEV, VMWare is expensive), how evaluate the hardware needs (this for evolution of 4 or 5 years) and to elaborate a good planing to don't forget any think. • Combining multiple linux boxes and create VMs out of it

  I am new to virtualization. I am running on ubuntu. I have a set of linux machines (5 to 6 machines). Which I want to combine as a single resource pool and on demand create multiple virtual instances of machines out of it. This is comparable to what VirtualBox does in a single system. I stumbled across many key words: Xen, Eucalyptus, OpenStack etc. But things are very vague as to which will help me achieve this requirement. Any help will be appreciated :) Thanks in advance!

• How to convert OpenVZ OS templte to bootable to image file?

  My question is how to convert a pre-created OpenVZ OS template which are in tar.gz format (such as these) to an image file in order to be able boot it with other virtualization solutions such as QEMU or VirtualBox. In order to achieve this, I made an empty image file, I partitioned it, and made two partition, a primary partition and a extended partition for swap. I made the first partition ext3 (0x83) and the other one swap (0x82). Then I made the first one bootable, and copied the content of tar.gz to the first partition. But when I try to boot, it hangs at the first stage of booting.

• Is virtual machine slower than the underlying physical machine?

  This question is quite general, but most specifically I'm interested in knowing if virtual machine running Ubuntu Enterprise Cloud will be any slower than the same physical machine without any virtualization. How much (1%, 5%, 10%)? Did anyone measure performance difference of web server or db server (virtual VS physical)? If it depends on configuration, let's imagine two quad core processors, 12 GB of memory and a bunch of SSD disks, running 64-bit ubuntu enterprise server. On top of that, just 1 virtual machine allowed to use all resources available.

• In a virtual machine monitor such as VMware’s ESXi Server, how are shadow page tables implemented?

  My understanding is that VMMs such as VMware's ESXi Server maintain shadow page tables to map virtual page addresses of guest operating systems directly to machine (hardware) addresses. I've been told that shadow page tables are then used directly by the processor's paging hardware to allow memory access in the VM to execute without translation overhead. I would like to understand a bit more about how the shadow page table mechanism works in a VMM. Is my high level understanding above correct? What kind of data structures are used in the implementation of shadow page tables? What is the flow of control from the guest operating system all the way to the hardware? How are memory access translations made for a guest operating system before its shadow page table is populated? How is page sharing supported? Short of straight up reading the source code of an open source VMM, what resources can I look into to learn more about hardware virtualization?

In this article, we will use a similar sample, the QueueReceive.java program to read the message from that queue. Please review the previous posts if you have not already done so, as they contain prerequisites for executing the sample in this article. 1. Source code The following java code will be used to read the message(s) from the JMS queue. As with the previous example, it is based on a sample program shipped with the WebLogic Server installation. The sample is not installed by default, but needs to be installed manually using the WebLogic Server Custom Installation option, together with many, other useful samples. Go to $MIDDLEWARE_HOME/user_projects/domains/base_domain/bin  and execute . ./setDomainEnv.sh Collect the following information required to run the script: The JNDI name of the JMS queue to use In the WebLogic server console > Services > Messaging > JMS Modules > Module name, (e.g. TestJMSModule) > JMS queue name, (e.g. TestJMSQueue) select the queue and note its JNDI name, e.g. jms/TestJMSQueue The JNDI name of the connection factory to use to connect to the queue Follow the same path as above to get the connection factory for the above queue, e.g. TestConnectionFactory and its JNDI name e.g. jms/TestConnectionFactory The URL and port of the WebLogic server running the above queue Check the JMS server for the above queue and the managed server it is targeted to, for example soa_server1. • Sync desktop Mac environment to laptop

  I spend the majority of my time working at my desktop Mac, which I have configured for my web development environment. My spouse has a MacBook for casual use, and I occasionally steal it back when I need to work off-site, or when travelling. The question is how to best synchronize the two so I can switch between them more readily. I've solved a few obvious things by using online services: Email is hosted on IMAP. Working files are in Dropbox. Source code is managed in git. However, the following are things I always miss when jumping on the laptop: Installed Applications (current versions) Installed libraries & utilities (/usr/local) Apache VirtualHosts & other configurations (/etc) Disk image files for VMs My current method is to connect the MacBook via Firewire target mode and rsync the /Users/me home directory, and then cherry-pick the other items I need from Applications, /etc and /usr/local. The problem with this method is that it can be very time consuming due to things like my virtual machine image files, cached emails, etc. How can I make this faster & easier? Can you recommend a solution for configuration management (so I can repeatably install & configure the same software on both), or synchronization (so I can bring the MacBook up to date nightly, over our home network)?

• The Customer Experience Revolution is Now

  To conclude this week’s focus on customer experience, I’ll end by recapping how my week began in New York City at The Experience Revolution. We all know that customers increasingly call the shots, and that winning or losing depends on how well we manage to meet their expectations. Today’s customers have a multitude of choices and are quick to jump ship following a poor experience. As a result, delivering an experience that is relevant, interactive, engaging, and consistent across channels and fostering rewarding relationships are increasingly important to business success.  It is only through exceptional customer experiences that companies can expect to acquire new customers and maintain their loyalty.  Over 400 of us gathered at Gotham Hall on Monday night to hear Oracle President Mark Hurd introduce Oracle Customer Experience, a cross-stack suite of customer experience products that include Oracle RightNow CX Cloud Service, Oracle Endeca, Oracle ATG Web Commerce, Oracle WebCenter,Oracle Siebel CRM, Oracle Fusion CRM, Oracle Social Network, and Oracle Knowledge Management. I'd encourage you check out this video to hear Mark explain why having a good product isn't good enough in the wake of the customer experience revolution. • Chrome's new window disappear from desktop

  I'm having this problem with Chrome on a Windows 7 x86 machine. I'm using Chrome for a locally hosted intranet web app. In the web app, there's frequent use of new window which popup, which works like a dialog box for the app. The problem started since yesterday. All the new windows doesn't appear on top and no where to be found on the desktop. But it does appear on the taskbar. Clicking the button on the taskbar doesn't bring up the window as well. I've also tried Alt+Space, then Move, it doesn't work. I only found 2 way to bring it up, Maximize or Show as tab. What could have caused this and how should I fix it? Thanks EDIT: I've configure to not group taskbar buttons. EDIT: I've just gone through the javascript of the button, it call window.open to display the popup. I can see the popup flicker and disappear. If I step through the code, the popup will display properly, sometime. Also, if I click the button twice, it will also display the popup, but at a much smaller size, less than 100x100
