  OK, I'm confused about sql server indexed views(using 2008) I've got an indexed view called AssignmentDetail when I look at the execution plan for select * from AssignmentDetail it shows the execution plan of all the underlying indexes of all the other tables that the indexed view is supposed to abstract away. I would think that the execution plan woul simply be an clustered index scan of PK_AssignmentDetail(the name of the clustered index for my view) but it doesn't. There seems to be no performance gain with this indexed view what am I supposed to do? Should I also create a non-clustered index with all of the columns so that it doesn't have to hit all the other indexes? Any insight would be greatly appreciated

• Accessing HTML 5 Video Progress Event with jQuery

  Hello All, The below is for an HTML5 video player event. My partner and I have been stumped for a very large portion of the day on this issue and hope someone can lend some insight on the issue. We have been able to access the progress event with plain js as seen below but when trying to access this with jQuery we get undefined in console. • Getting "on the wire" Size of Messages in WCF

  While I'm making SOAP or REST invocations to WCF, I'd like to have the channel stack on either end (client and server) record the on-the-wire size of the data received. So I'm guessing I need to add a custom behavior to the channel stack on either side. That is, on the server side I'd record the IP-header advertised size that was received. On the client side I'd record the IP-header advertised size that was returned from the server. But this presupposes that this information is visible to a custom WCF behavior at the channel stack level. Perhaps it is only visible at the level of ASP.NET (at a layer beneath WCF)? In short, does anyone have any further insight on if and how this information is accessible? I must qualify that this "size" data will be collected in a production environment, as part of regular business logic calls. This question is related to my earlier bandwidth question.

I am able to read the boot-sector FILE *fp_read = fopen("\\\\.\\E:", "rb"); /* Able to proceed to read boot sector */ however i am not able to open the file to write using fopen in 'wb' mode. Hex-editors are able to manipulated boot sector etc, i believe it possible to do so in c. Any suggestion or insight to overcome the access problem so as to be able to write?

  I got the above error in my jasper report mail. The query that is used in the report is quite complicated (for me). Reading different posts I conclude that to solve this the I have to change the query to SET TRANSACTION ISOLATION LEVEL REPEATABLE READ GO BEGIN TRANSACTION ... my query ... COMMIT TRANSACTION ? I wonder if this is the correct way to solve the error and that if it has any side effects? Has it happened to anyone in the Jasper reports? Does anyone know if there is a better solution exist to the problem? (Although that I have not yet tested the above solution, if anyone can give any insight on this will be helpful.)

• In SICP exercise 2.26 using DrScheme, why does cons return a list, instead of a pair of lists?

  In SICP exercise 2.26, this Scheme code is given: (define x (list 1 2 3)) (define y (list 4 5 6)) Then this cons call is given: (cons x y) I expected a pair of lists would result, ((1 2 3) (4 5 6)) but the interpreter gives, ((1 2 3) 4 5 6) ...a list with 4 elements, the first being a list. Why is y treated differently? I've tried looking up other SICP answers for an explanation, but couldn't find something satisfactory. So could any Scheme/Lisp experts please shed some light on this aspect of cons? Thanks in advance for any insight.

• Distributing WPF apps to a legacy user base: How seamless is it?

  I'm considering developing a WPF application, to be hosted by a legacy Windows app (C++), and I'm trying to get a better sense of how feasible it'll be to do so, given the broad user base I'm targeting. Knowing WPF targets .NET 3.5, I'm looking for some insight as to what the field looks like right now -- who's already got the runtime, whether it's distributed by Windows Update, if so, how (e.g., as an optional or required download, to which operating systems, etc.), whether XP pre-XP2 supports it (and how), and so on. The current version's got many thousands of users, using all manner of Windows operating systems, and while I'd very much like to leverage WPF to breathe some life into their user experience, I want to make sure I'm not shutting anyone out by doing so, or burdening them with a download they might have to do manually. I realize most, or all, of this information's out there already, in various places, but I figured I'd ask here first, since I'm sure some of you've probably already gone down this road and have valuable experiences to share.   I really love org-mode in emacs and want to customize a few things. While reading thru org.el, I'm finding several references to filename but can't find filename using describe-function? I'm sure there's a simple answer, but I'm just learning elisp and it's not obvious. Any insight into where filename is defined? And/or if it's not a function, what is it? • is jQuery 1.4.2 compatible with Closure Compiler?

  According to the official release statement version 1.4 has been re-written to be compressed with Closure Compiler yet when I use the online version of closure compiler I get 130 warnings. This is the code I use. // ==ClosureCompiler== // @compilation_level ADVANCED_OPTIMIZATIONS // @output_file_name default.js // @code_url http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.4.2/jquery.js // ==/ClosureCompiler== And as far as I know you get the real benefit of Closure Compiler if you include the library with your code also, so it removes the unused functions. Yet my testing show that I can't get any further than compressing the library itself.. What am I doing wrong? Any kind of insight will be much appreciated.

• How to gain greater control of network packets on Android

  I'm looking to design an application that will require some deep control over IP packets. Looking over the reference guide on the developers site at Android I see very limited control over packets from java.net:SocketOptions and java.net:DatagramPacket. Specifically I'm looking to control the individual bits within the packet to set TCP Flags, SYN/ACK/RST, and so forth. Based on the docs I am assuming I cannot do this within the Java API provided by Android and I'm guessing I'll have to do it some other way? Anyone have any insight on this?

  I am trying to call ssh-keygen using a variable through bash as an input instead of a file to get a fingerprint of a public key. This method does not work as it says the key file is invalid (it's correct for sure) echo $pubkey | ssh-keygen -lf /dev/stdin This does work ssh-keygen -lf /dev/stdin < alpha.pub This does not work because I get an ambiguous redirect ssh-keygen -lf /dev/stdin < $(echo $pubkey) I would appreciate some insight as to how to get ssh-keygen to read from a variable with a public key and if possible, an explanation as to why the redirects aren't doing what I think they should be doing. I searched online but many of the redirect tutorials didn't seem to answer my questions.

  I have several configuration files on Windows Server 2008 nested like such: C:\Projects\Project_1\project1.config C:\Projects\Project_2\project2.config In my configuration I need to do a string replace like such: <add key="Environment" value="Dev"/> will become: <add key="Environment" value="Demo"/> I thought about using batch scripting, but there was no good way to do this, and I heard that with PowerShell scripting you can easily perform this. I have found examples of find/replace, but I was hoping for a way that would traverse all folders within my C:\Projects directory and find any files that end with the '.config' extension. When it finds one, I want it to replace my string values. Any good resources to find out how to do this or any PowerShell gurus that can offer some insight?

• How do you handle large repeated UI elements with JQuery

  Howdy, Here's the situation: You have a very complex UI element that is repeated in a list. Each has a menu on it, buttons, it hides and shows subelements, buttons for switch it's state, etc, etc. The elements are populated via JSON so you have to construct the elements and the functionality of the fly. What's the best way to accomplish this with JQuery? Where would you save the reusable template for the DOM structure? How would you add the behavior on? $().live? .livequery? onclick? manual after every JSON get? I guess I just see a lot of people doing different things. What's your experience with performance? • Is a switch statement ok for 30 or so conditions?

  I am in the final stages of creating an MP4 tag parser in .Net. For those who have experience with tagging music you would be aware that there are an average of 30 or so tags. If tested out different types of loops and it seems that a switch statement with Const values seems to be the way to go with regard to catching the tags in binary. The switch allows me to search the binary without the need to know which order the tags are stored or if there are some not present but I wonder if anyone would be against using a switch statement for so many conditionals. Any insight is much appreciated.

• Strange padding in Safari when using SVG images

  I thought I was having issues with margins but then on a closer look I found that SVGs are acting funky in Safari 6. I am building a simple Hexagon based website. Of course I used negative vertical margins to for a little overlap to 'inter-lock' the hexagons. And to save space I was using SVG images for the hexagons. It works great in chrome and firefox, but in Safari, there is a strange padding in the SVG images. I'm using simple img tags for the svg images. Everything works when I switch to PNG, but I'd prefer to stick to SVGs. Any insight? Can I perhaps delve into the SVG code and somehow fix the SVG problem in Safari? or is it some sort of bug, that I can do nothing about without browser sniffing?

• Where should the partitioning column go in the primary key on SQL Server?

  Using SQL Server 2005 and 2008. I've got a potentially very large table (potentially hundreds of millions of rows) consisting of the following columns: CREATE TABLE ( date SMALLDATETIME, id BIGINT, value FLOAT ) which is being partitioned on column date in daily partitions. The question then is should the primary key be on date, id or value, id? I can imagine that SQL Server is smart enough to know that it's already partitioning on date and therefore, if I'm always querying for whole chunks of days, then I can have it second in the primary key. Or I can imagine that SQL Server will need that column to be first in the primary key to get the benefit of partitioning. Can anyone lend some insight into which way the table should be keyed?

  Hi. I have a client who wants a paypal shopping cart. All of the services have "Buy Now" buttons, all with different prices. However, there is one service, which is a FREE 0 dollar service. The client wants the "Buy Now" button to remain there, to be consistent with the rest of the site. Does anyone know how I can do a $0 dollar transaction with paypal? • Silverlight MergedDictionaries and subclassing of Application

  We have subclassed the Silverlight Application class to add some additional functionality and then use this in multiple projects. The problem is that the Resources defined in App.xaml do not seem to get loaded. Has anyone else seen this and/or have some insight? • Why are functions loaded at aligned addresses in x86 Linux for elf executables?

  Hi, I've been looking at Linux elf executables on x86, mostly using IDA but also gdb. One thing I've noticed is functions are always loaded at word aligned addresses? Anybody knows the reason of that? I am not aware of any requirement of x86 instructions to start at aligned addresses. And it cannot be due to page alignment cause the page boundary can still be anywhere within the function. I would appreciate any insight at all. Thanks.

• iPhone: Interface Builder leaks memory?

  I have been working on an iPhone project, where we created all the user interface programmatically in code. Now I'm going to start a new iPhone project and thinking of using Interface Builder instead, because it has been recommended to me as being a very useful tool, creating less headache than writing everything in code and in general much faster (regarding development time). However, my team members have some concerns due to previous problems with using Interface Builder and resulting memory leaks. Therefor they suggest building everything in code again. I don't know where these concerns come from, but maybe someone with more experience than we have can give some insight on that topic. Doing a simple Google search doesn't really provide any information proofing that there are any problems with memory leaks created by the Interface Builder itself.

  Hi, Does anyone know how to use the cvFindDominantPoints API of openCV? I basically have a 1 channel, binary image from which I get a set of contours. Judging from the image, I seem to be getting the correct contours. Now, I am selecting one of these contours to get dominant points of. This contour has about 60 vertices. However, the API call to cvFindDominantPoints is giving me a sequence of points (about 15) that does not even lie on the contour. It is quite far from it. Any insight? my usage: CvSeq *dominantpoints = cvFindDominantPoints(targetSeq, tristorage, CV_DOMINANT_IPAN, 7, 9, 9, 150);

• What's an easy way to set up object communication in Obj-C?

• jQuery effect on iframe parent document

  Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this or knows why I am getting an error. I'm using javascript from within an iframe to call a parent dom element then use jQuery UI's effect core to shake it.
