• Not indent the first paragraph of a LaTeX document

  In the standard LaTeX article class (and probably others as well), paragraph indentation follows standard American publishing norms of not indenting the first paragraph after a section{} or subsection{}. I've redefined \maketitle in a LaTeX document and put the actual title left-aligned as the last line, fairly close to the actual text (kind of like this) Author Date Title Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipisicing elit, sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore et dolore magna aliqua. Ut enim ad minim veniam, quis nostrud exercitation ullamco laboris nisi ut aliquip ex ea commodo consequat. Duis aute irure dolor in reprehenderit in voluptate velit esse cillum dolore eu fugiat nulla pariatur. Excepteur sint occaecat cupidatat non proident, sunt in culpa qui officia deserunt mollit anim id est laborum. • Possible to have multiple Profiles in ASP.NET for different users?

  My application has a few different user types with their own members. For example, I have the student user as well as the teacher user. I authenticate my users through active directory in my custom MembershipProvider's ValidateUser method. While querying AD, I pull out all their relevant information. I'd like to put that information into a Profile, but from what I've read and the examples I've sen, you can only define a single Profile (like so): <profile defaultProvider="CustomProfileProvider" enabled="true"> <properties> <add name="YearLevel" type="String" /> <add name="Name" type="String" /> <add name="Age" type="String" /> </properties> </profile> The above profile would work for a student, but not for a teacher, who does not have a value for "YearLevel" in AD. Is it possible to have multiple profiles to accomplish this? Or is it easier to add all properties from AD spanning all user types, then in my code, just check what user type they are and then access their specific properties?

• WIKI replacement solution for SharePoint?

  I'm trying to research a replacement for the pathetic WIKI that comes with WSS (only wiki code it has is to create url links). I have looked at a few but most 'replacements' I see are MOSS only? (or so it just states MOSS for requirements). Has anyone faced this situation? What did you end up using? I would like something that I can have all in one location (not different apps, hence WSS). With LDAP / AD Integration like WSS. Thanks appreciate any input. I would like to see ~ $3k solutions tho (nothing super expensive, hence why we don't run MOSS). EDIT: Anyone else have any suggestions? EDIT2: Actually since I haven't had much feedback (thanks to those that have). I installed mediawiki under IIS with PHP enabled, and enabled the IIS AD hack for authentication. IIS ends up prompting for authentication (user/pass) if you use a non IE browser, then it sets the $_SERVER["REMOTE_USER"] variable, and grabs some AD info (groups etc). Works rather well, only issues is the UGLY urls so far. But its fully working. Seems like a good setup. Other than having to rely on MYSQL (my company strives to be mainly SQL Server)

• Google Analytics - Goals - Advanced Segments - Does it keep cookies for tracking visitors?

  Hi there, I am working with Google Analytics - Goals and Funnels for quite sometime, but one thing is is not clear for me. I would very much appreciate if you could help me. We are advertising on several sites rotating several different ads. Our main goal is to collect as many sign-ups (new users) as possible for as low price as possible. We use to advertise the way, that each ad has the same URL where to land, but contains different parameter (e.g. http://www.brautpunkt.de/?ref=fb01 or ..... .de/?ref=adw03). My question is: If I am looking at the goals (Goals Overview), filtering it through Advanced Segments (Landing Page contains /?ref=fb01) is this subset of goals done only by the users who registered in the same session after they came on our site directly from the ad? or also by those users who came first time through this ad (/?ref=fb01), didn't register in the same session but came directly for example on the other day and register than? • Can't write to dynamic iframe using jQuery

  My goal is to dynamically create an iframe and write ad JavaScript into it using jQuery (e.g. Google AdSense script). My code works on Chrome, but fails intermittently in Firefox i.e. sometimes the ad script runs and renders the ad, and other times it doesn't. When it doesn't work, the script code itself shows up in the iframe. My guess is these intermittent failures occur because the iframe is not ready by the time I write to it. I have tried various iterations of *iframe_html* (my name for the function which is supposed to wait for the iframe to be ready), but no luck. Any help appreciated! PS: I have read various threads (e.g. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/205087/jquery-ready-in-a-dynamically-inserted-iframe). • VB.NET - Find a Substring in an ArrayList, StringCollection or List(Of String)

  I've got some code that creates a list of AD groups that the user is a member of, with the intention of saying 'if user is a member of GroupX then allow admin access, if not allow basic access'. I was using a StringCollection to store this list of Groups, and intended to use the Contains method to test for membership of my admin group, but the problem is that this method only compares the full string - but my AD groups values are formatted as cn=GroupX, etc.... I want to be easily able to determine if a particular substring (i.e. 'GroupX') appears in the list of groups. I could always iterate through the groups check each for a substring representing my AD group name, but I'm more interested in finding out if there is a 'better' way. Clearly there are a number of repositories for the list of Groups, and it appears that Generics (List(Of String)) are more commonly preferred (which I may well implement anyway) but there is no in-built means of checking for a substring using this method either. Any suggestions? Or should I just iterated through the list of groups?

• "Thread was being aborted" 0n large dataset

  I am trying to process 114,000 rows in a dataset (populated from an oracle database). I am hitting an error at around the 600 mark - "Thread was being aborted". All I am doing is reading the dataset, and I still hit the issue. Is this too much data for a dataset? It seems to load into the dataset ok though. • In Rails, how would I include a section of a page only if the rest of the page doesn't match a certain regexp?

  We have a site with a lot of user-generated content, and we'd like to show Google ads on it. Some of the content is such that we mustn't show the ads on pages containing that content, or else the whole site gets banned. We've come up with a regexp which we think will match all the offending content. So, three approaches come to mind: Render the page once without the ad section, and then insert the ad section into it if it's clean Render the page as normal, and do the insertion in client-side javascript Render the page above the ad section, capturing only the parts of the page that change; make sure there are no changing parts afterwards. Only show the ads if the captured text is clean, and make sure the unchanging, uncaptured parts are well-vetted in advance. The first one seems like it might delay the page rendering for too long; the second seems like it might delay showing the ads too long; and the third seems too fragile. Is there a better approach? If not, which one is the best solution of the three?

• Finding out the windows group by virtue of which a user is able to access a database in sql server?

  There is a SQL Server 2005 database with mixed-mode authentication. Among others, we have the following logins on the server: our-domain\developers-group-1, and our-domain\developers-group-2 which are AD groups. The our-domain\developer-group-2 is added to the sysadmin role on the server, by virture of which all domain users of that group can access any database as SQL Server implictly maps the sysadmin role to the dbo user in each database. There are two users our-domain\good-user and our-domain\bad-user The issue is the following: Both the good-user and the bad-user have the exact same AD group memberships. They are both members of our-domain\developers-group-1 and our-domain\developers-group-2. The good-user is able to access all the databases, and the bad-user is not. The bad-user is able to login, but he is unable access any databases. By the way, I am the good-user. How do I go about finding out why? Here's what I tried so far: When I do print current_user, I get dbo When I do print system_user, I get my-domain\good-user When I do select * from fn_my_permissions(NULL, 'SERVER'), I see permissions. But if do execute as user='my-domain\good-user'; select * from fn_my_permissions(NULL, 'SERVER'), I dont see any permisisons. And When I do, execute as user='my-domain\bad-user'; select * from fn_my_permissions(NULL, 'SERVER'), I dont see any permisisons. Also, I was wondering if there is a sql command that will tell me, "hey! the current database user is able to access this database because he is a member such-and-such ad-group, which is a login that is mapped to such-and-such user in this database".

• Active Directory Incorrect password attempts double counting

However when the password is incorrect this shows as 2 invalid attempts in AD. So what happens is when the AD admin allows 5 invalid attempts the user is locked out on the 3rd attempt. when i look in the AD's event log 1 see 2 entries. 1)Pre-authentication failed: 2)Logon attempt by: MICROSOFT_AUTHENTICATION_PACKAGE_V1_0 Logon account: [email protected] Source Workstation: WKSXXXX Error Code: 0xC000006A Stepping thro the code i see 2 event entries on the line de.RefreshCache() I tried using de.NativeObject to see if that would solve the problem. No Dice Anyone have any pointers?

• Strange mod_rewrite problem; Website works partially

  I have Ubuntu 9.10 Server... I need to get mod_rewrite working... the mod_rewrite module IS LOADED. On my server, the httpd.conf is empty, instead everything (almost) is in a file called apache2.conf. Anyways, I have also read I have to change the AllowOverride None to AllowOverride All in some file... My httpd.conf is empty as you know, but I have a folder called sites-enabled which contains a 000-default file. This is where I have set: AllowOverride All Now my goal as I stated in the last Q is to turn this link: http://mydomain.com/ad.php?ad_id=Bmw_nice_M3_497379462 into this: http://mydomain.com/Bmw_nice_M3_497379462 So as I got an answer in the last Q i inserted this into the htaccess file: Options +FollowSymLinks Options +Indexes RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/ad\.php RewriteRule ^(.*)$ ad.php?ad_id=$1 [L] Now, this works (no fully) when entering the url manually in the adress bar, but my website isn't working now for some reason. It is like the website is locked down or something, and unless I change AllowOverride to None it will act like that. Any ideas why? Also another note, the links inside the rewritten url doesn't work properly (images are not shown, while some are shown)...

  After applying what wrapping objects using math operator, I just tought it will be over. But no. And then wrap the three all in a <div class="row"> (a br after won't work out by design reasons). I thought I will going back to applying a switch, but if somebody put more elements in the array that the switch can properly wrap, the last two remaining elements are wrapped openly. Can i add the "ad" to the array in the third position? That would make things simplier, only leaving me with guessing how to wrap the first and the third, the fourth and the sixth, an so on.

  Greenspun's tenth rule (actually the only rule) states that: Any sufficiently complicated C or Fortran program contains an ad hoc, informally-specified, bug-ridden, slow implementation of half of Common Lisp. My memory is that there are some papers on the topic, perhaps for Borland's Quattro (spreadsheet) project and possibly others. Google is unhelpful, maybe the right search terms are not coming to mind. I am looking for papers or articles supporting this claim, if any.
