• Why isn't pyinstaller making me an .exe file?

  I am attempting to follow this guide to make a simple Hello World script into an .exe file. I have Windows Vista with an AMD 64-bit processor I have installed Python 2.6.5 (Windows AMD64 version) I have set the PATH (if that's the right word) so that the command line recognizes Python I have installed UPX (there only seems to be a 32-bit version for Windows) and pasted a copy of upx.exe into the Python26 folder as instructed. I have installed Pywin (Windows AMD 64 Python 2.6 version) I have run Pyinstaller's Configure.py. It gives some error messages but seems to complete. I want to create 6 files for individual features. I have a Perl code that does this but it is horribly slow. Is there a way to do it faster?   Dear Stack Exchange, Hi, I have built a form input page in HTML that has an action to post to an ASP handler/processor .asp file. The form handler/processor .asp file contains only <% Insert VBScript Here % and no HTML output whatsoever. The .asp file was never intended to be a "web viewable" .asp file like an .asp home page file or html file would. It's supposed to be for my eyes only- not the public's however it does need to take info posted by the public and do something with it on it's end. I have used VBScript/ASP3.0 to build the form handler/processor file and would like to know how to keep someone from viewing the actual VBScript in the handler/processor .asp file. I am aware of obfuscation but I would like to know how to keep prying eyes from even being able to take a look at the obfuscated code in the handler/processor file. I realize that the server executes the .asp file first before outputting anything to the browser so I guess that my main concern is mostly that someone may could "download" the form handler/processor .asp file, then view it's contents on their machine. Assuming the form handler .asp file is where it is, behind the root, and is on a windows server (no htaccess approach) how could one protect it so that it could never be viewed or simply pulled down via anonymous ftp or something like that? Is there something like "script only" permissions that the system administrator could set up for a particular folder? Remember, with shared hosting I can't go above the root. If so, would the form still be able to post? How would any of you guys go about protecting the asp file in addition to obfuscation? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, ASP Pee-Wee

  Im creating an iPhone game with Adobe AIR, and I want to be able to load a simple text msg into an dynamic text box on the games front screen from my server (and then be able to update that text file on the server, so it updates automatically in the game after the game is on the app store) How would I go about acheiving that? is it as simple as using a getURL? are there any specifical issues with trying to do this on the iPhone via AIR that I should be aware of? • Which 3D file formats support multiple animations? [on hold]

  I'm working on a 3D application that uses Assimp to import 3D models with animations. Personally, I use Blender to create the models and animations. I'm having trouble exporting multiple animations, however. For example, I'd like to have an idle animation, a walk animation, a run animation, etc. So far I've tried COLLADA and DirectX without much success. The COLLADA export will include the first animation, but not any of the others. The DirectX doesn't include any animation. Which 3D file formats support multiple animations? (Preferably one that Assimp can import. Also, the Assimp website says that it doesn't support .blend files with animation, otherwise I'd just do that.)

• How can set up a file sharing server to allow remote access over a WAN?

  I want to set up a server to allow remote access over a WAN. The purpose is to allow people to remote connect and download specific files from a specified folder hosted on the server. Is there software available to achieve this, preferably with an interface so I can easily add and remove users, plus monitor who is connected at any time? I have looked around and only found terminal references, and not very clear how to set up. I have a service running on my Win server, but I am hoping to move from that to Ubuntu for my file sharing. I do not want people who access the server to have any local accounts or any access to any folder/files apart from authorised folders/files. Thanks

  Hi, I have a clickonce application (VS2010, .NET 4). I have registered a file association (.task), and this all works well. If I double click a file with the .task extension on the desktop the clickonce application opens and can open the file. If I email the file however, and double click the file from within outlook, I get the open/save dialog. If I click open nothing appears to happen. If I save the file I can open it by double clicking on it. Any ideas why the file does not open from within outlook ? Thanks, Mark

But when we save a new instance of the file from the DB (with today's date as the create/modify) on the file-system and then check the new hash versus the MD5 stored in the DB they do not match, and therefor fail a duplicate check. How can we check for a file hash excluding the file attributes? or is there a different issue here?

• IO operation taking long time for files in remote server

  I have files of size 150 MB each in a remote server in a different domain in the network. I am accessing them thorugh UNC path. I want to read the file content and perform a basic string search. When I try reading the files line by line, the operation just don't finish and takes long time, more than 30 minutes. However when I copy those files to my local machine, the same code reads and performs the string search in less than 5 seconds. I don't have .NET framework installed in the server so I have to do this from my machine. I want to perform all this through C# code in .NET framework 3.5 so I don't want to explictly ftp all the files to my machine before performing this operation.   I have this problem on my home network where when I try to copy files via wireless connection, at some point the copy fails and the machine doing the copy loses connection to the network. I'm pretty much lost as to figuring out the source for the problem... Some more details that might help: It's not OS related. I have Windows 7 machines and Leopard machines and this occurs on both I'm using a 3com OfficeConnect router Wired transfer works fine Other programs that require heavy wireless traffic work just fine:streaming large HD movies, Xbox Live! ... I'm lost as to how to even begin trying to diagnose the problem so any tips are welcome...

• Windows 7 file sharing password protecting or making stuff available to just me

  Even with the new Homegroup feature I'm still finding the way Windows deals with folder sharing utterly baffling. Here's what I want to do. I have two computers, a PC Desktop and a laptop. I also live in a shared flat with other computer users. I have set up a Homegroup and a Workgroup on the desktop and joined them on the laptop and in the home group I have shared video, music and pictures. This is so that anyone on the network can view pictures and listen to music etc. But I want my Documents folder from my desktop to only be available to me on my laptop and not to anyone else that may be on the network. The Homegroup only allows (from what I can gather from the baffling array of options) sharing with everyone or no one. Is it possible to only allow the laptop to access the documents folder on the desktop? The user name and password are the same on both computers.

  In my /var/www folder i have permission 2750 with the owner being root (unless i change it by hand) and the group being www-data. I mv a folder into /var/www and i'd like to reset the permissions so everything is 2750 and for the group to be www-data, is it possible to do it in one command? or do i need to do multiple cmds?   I've downloaded the phpdoc from their site, extracted it, and put it in apache's documentroot for access through the web browser. However, I cant access the phpdoc tool from the command line. I have to add it to the PATH because I want to use the command line for automated documentation building, but considering I can't find it I can't add it to the PATH.

• How to Disable Ctrl-C /Ctrl-S While Running a Batch File

  By default, batch files can be terminated when the user presses Ctrl-C and can be paused by pressing Ctrl-S. Is there a way to disable this? The MS-DOS BREAK command apparently used to do this, but it is now ignored in Windows. I need something that works in WinNT 4.0 and Win2K.

• File transfer from MP3 player to computer

  I own an old 20GB Creative Zen jukebox (all external screws are gone on it LOL) and I would like to transfer files back to my PC to get them on my new iPod. Problem is, no matter what software I use (WinAMP, Creative Media Source or Windows Media Player), it just stops transferring files on my HD with an error message that says there is no more space on the destination folder. Problem is, there is still 320GB free. I tried lot of things like installing newer driver, latest Zen plug-in for Media Source, latest WinAMP version. Sometimes, it just works and then again, it stops working and I get this non-sense error. Restarting my PC sometime solves the issue by giving me enough time to transfer 10 or 15 more files and then I get the error again and again. Yesterday though I managed to transfer up to 3GB of MP3s on my computer before getting the error. Seems like I'm having a driver issue or a weird behavior from the player and/or the software I'm using. 3 different software can't reproduce the exact same issue by themselves so it must be something related to the driver. I can't find any post of any sort concerning such issue on old forums. Any idea?

• Remote File Copy - Win Server 2008

  I'd like to copy backup archives from a remote server to my client machine. In the past, I've installed an FTP server on the remote machine and directed local server backups to dump into that directory. I'd then FTP in from my client machine. Just wondering if there is a simpler way to do this using Win 7 (Client) Win Server 2008? Robocopy? RDC command line options? For example, I can easily remote desktop in and drag the files from the server to my local machine. If there is an easy command line way to do this, then I don't have to setup an FTP server which is ideal. Thanks.

• File/printer sharing issues on network with multiple OSes

  My workplace consists of computers running a variety of different operating systems, and I have been running into problems getting some of them to connect to a shared drive and printer over the network. Here is a brief description of the computers involved and the issues I have encountered: 1: Dell desktop, Windows Vista Business-- This is the computer I want the others to connect to. It has a USB printer and eSATA hard drive enclosure that I have set up for sharing, with different accounts for the various users. 2: Fujitsu laptop, Windows XP Tablet edition-- No problems. Can connect to both the shared printer and hard drive. 3: Lenovo laptop, Windows Vista Business 64 bit-- No problems. Can connect to both the shared printer and drive. 4: Apple MacBook, OS 10.4-- Can connect to the shared drive, but not to the shared printer. I am aware that the printer issue is due to a known incompatibility between Vista and OS 10.4 and earlier with regards to Samba. It is not a big problem, however, as this computer can access a network printer. 5: Sony laptop, Windows Vista Home Premium-- Can connect to the shared printer, but not the shared drive. It can see computer 1 and its shared drive on the network, and appears to successfully log in to user accounts. However, if you try to access the shared drive, it says you do not have permission. I have tried both standard and administrator accounts, and none can access the drive from this computer. 6: MacBook Pro, OS 10.5 (there are two of these)-- Can connect to the shared printer, but not the shared drive. They can't see computer 1 on the network. For that matter, they also can't see each other or the older Mac, but can see and access shared folders on the XP machine (computer 2) and can see other PCs in the building. I was able to add the shared printer manually by typing in its network location, but was unable to manually add the shared drive in the same way. So, what I am looking for is suggestions on how to get computers 5 and 6 to connect to the shared drive. Since they can already connect to the shared printer (which is on the same computer as the shared drive), it seems reasonable that they should be able to access the drive as well.

  i basically want to run: C:\>xcopy [0-9]{13}\.(gif|jpg|png) s:\TargetFolder /s i know xcopy doesn't support regular-expression filename searches. i am told that Powershell can do such a thing, although not given any syntax. Can anyone give the syntax of the above xcopy, but in PowerShell format?

• Windows Vista file permissions does not inherit when copying to a network share

  I've got a network share with specific permissions on a subfolder (e.g. access to developers and freelancers). A designer copied PNG files from his local system to the network share. These files didn't inherit the folder permissions, but only gave access to Administrators. Is this a setting somewhere to restrict access, and can it be avoided? The local system uses Vista, the server uses Windows 2003.

• Mac and windows 7 file sharing specific user

  Hi guys, I try to share a specific directory to my windows 7 computer, but I want it to use a specific user that I created on my mac to connect to it. I saw this tutorial: http://www.trickyways.com/2010/06/how-to-access-mac-files-from-windows-7/ wich is exactly what I want to do, but it ain't working. For some reason, it never prompts me for username/password when I try to connect on my mac when I'm on Windows 7. On top of that, when I set the permission "No Access" to the "Everyone" user on my mac, my windows computer simply don't see the directory. If I set the permission to "Read/Write" or "Read only" it works. I simply don't want that everyone in my workgroup to be able to read my files. I want to create specific users on my mac and share them to the persons I want... Any thoughts?
