• Yahoo Pipes: filter items in a feed based on words in a text file

    - by pufferfish
I have a pipe that filters an RSS feed and removes any item that contains "stopwords" that I've chosen. Currently I've manually created a filter for each stopword in the pipe editor, but the more logical way is to read these from a file. I've figured out how to read the stopwords out of the text file, but how do I apply the filter operator to the feed, once for every stopword? The documentation states explicitly that operators can't be applied within the loop construct, but hopefully I'm missing something here.

  • Need to check uptime on a large file being hosted

    - by trustfundbaby
I have a dynamically generated rss feed that is about 150M in size (don't ask) The problem is that it keeps crapping out sporadically and there is no way to monitor it without downloading the entire feed to get a 200 status. Pingdom times out on it and returns a 'down' error. So my question is, how do I check that this thing is up and running

  • SharePoint weekly summary alert with calculated columns

    - by Geoff
I have a SharePoint list that accepts incoming email and has two calculated columns based on the Email Subject. Immediate alerts, RSS etc all work fine but the Weekly Summary Alert has #VALUE! for all the calculated columns. Is there a reason for this? Can I get it to show that actual calculated value?

  • iPhone colorize UILabel substrings

    - by Janosch R
Hey, I’m parsing a twitter rss feed, and I just need to show tweets, so I don't need MGTwitterEngine. I have already set it up so I can see the complete tweet, the only thing I want it to colorize hashtags and urls. So I would need to slice up the string in different substrings, colorize the hashtags and urls and glue it together in various UILabels Is there an easier way to accomplish this? In short I need some parts of a string colored differently than others.

  • How is font-size not working here?

    - by markvgti
Following advice in The 6 Most Important CSS Techniques You Need To Know, I set my body's font-size to 62.5%, the container div's font-size to 1.4 em (slight variation from the article). p.tags and p.published's font-size is set to 1em. However, this doesn't work for me. Both the normal text and text in p.tags and p.published comes out to be the same size (16.8px as computed by Firebug). Can you explain why my code isn't working? I am testing in Firefox 3.6.3. The sample page shown by the author works just fine in the very same browser. I've reproduced the entire page below—apologies for the length of it, but I thought it better to not leave out anything.

Title

Odds 'n Ends

Archives

RSS

"It does not matter how slow you go so long as you do not stop."
Wisdom of Confucius

Tags: #wisdom

Posted: Nov 08, 2006 at 2:27 pm Permalink Short URL

The footer

  • How can I parse a namespace using the SAX parser?

    - by Silvestri
Hello, Using a twitter search URL ie. http://search.twitter.com/search.rss?q=android returns CSS that has an item that looks like:

@UberTwiter still waiting for @ubertwitter android app!!!

still waiting for an app!!!

<google:image_link>http://a1.twimg.com/profile_images/756343289/me2_normal.jpg</google:image_link> <twitter:metadata> <twitter:result_type>recent</twitter:result_type> </twitter:metadata>
Pretty simple. My code parses out everything (title, link, description, pubDate, etc.) without any problems. However, I'm getting null on: <google:image_link> I'm using Java to parse the RSS feed. Do I have to handle compound localnames differently than I would a more simple localname? This is the bit of code that parses out Link, Description, pubDate, etc: @Override public void endElement(String uri, String localName, String name) throws SAXException { super.endElement(uri, localName, name); if (this.currentMessage != null){ if (localName.equalsIgnoreCase(TITLE)){ currentMessage.setTitle(builder.toString()); } else if (localName.equalsIgnoreCase(LINK)){ currentMessage.setLink(builder.toString()); } else if (localName.equalsIgnoreCase(DESCRIPTION)){ currentMessage.setDescription(builder.toString()); } else if (localName.equalsIgnoreCase(PUB_DATE)){ currentMessage.setDate(builder.toString()); } else if (localName.equalsIgnoreCase(GUID)){ currentMessage.setGuid(builder.toString()); } else if (uri.equalsIgnoreCase(AVATAR)){ currentMessage.setAvatar(builder.toString()); } else if (localName.equalsIgnoreCase(ITEM)){ messages.add(currentMessage); } builder.setLength(0); } } startDocument looks like: @Override public void startDocument() throws SAXException { super.startDocument(); messages = new ArrayList<Message>(); builder = new StringBuilder(); } startElement looks like: @Override public void startElement(String uri, String localName, String name, Attributes attributes) throws SAXException { super.startElement(uri, localName, name, attributes); if (localName.equalsIgnoreCase(ITEM)){ this.currentMessage = new Message(); } } Tony

  • C++ Report alternatives ?

    - by brainydexter
I came across this recommendation for reading the C++ report magazine. However, when I searched for it, i realized it has become defunct. Can someone please recommend me some other magazine / rss etc which is of the same genre ? I look forward to read more about some of the elusive and other C++ techniques that veterans are using in the field. I came across Dr. Dobb's journal - C++ feeds and I think they're pretty good too. Subscribed++ Thanks!
