• Dynamically adding Views in Silverlight & MVVM

  Hi all, I am starting to re-write my whole silverlight business application in the MVVM pattern; My first stop-point is this: I have a page (View1) with corresponding ViewModel1 (with a property 'IEnumerable AllData'); Now, within this View, I want to have i.e. a tree-view control, in which one node will be populated with another View2; My question is: 1. How to do it? - I can't loop through the AllData property since it is asynchronously loaded... - thus I don't know the number of View2s' to insert - I don't know how to do it from ViewModel1 :( Will I need ViewModel2 with property 'MyDataEntity CurrentData'? or I can bind to AllData property from ViewModel1 Can you help me out? • Is there a definitive list of uri patterns for use in android apps made by google?

  Apart from http://developer.android.com/guide/appendix/g-app-intents.html (which is quite good but fairly limited in the number of apps/uri's it covers) I've been unable to find a decent reference source for looking up URI's to use when integrating with google apps. I'm currently working on triggering the "add new contact" UI, and have found that the tel: uri pattern seems to work, but what if I only have a name and an email? I wouldn't have expected I'd need to rely on sample code / trial and error, but I really can't see anywhere where the intent/URI interface is supposed to be documented in android apps. Does such a standard exist? Is there some quasi standard / user database that I can consult? On a platform with such a good inter-interoperability architecture it just seems like something so useful I can't believe it's not there

• Display rows from MySQL where a datetime is within the next hour

  I always have trouble with complicated SQL queries. This is what I have $query = ' SELECT id, name, info, date_time FROM acms_events WHERE date_time = DATE_SUB(NOW(), INTERVAL 1 HOUR) AND active = 1 ORDER BY date_time ASC LIMIT 6 '; I want to get up to 6 rows that are upcoming within the hour. Is my query wrong? It does not seem to get events that are upcoming within the next hour when I test it. What is the correct syntax for this? Thanks

• Irregular layout ItemsControl

  I have a strange layout for an ItemsControl. I have a 4x6 grid with the following pattern: 1 2 3 4 13 14 15 16 5 6 7 8 17 18 19 20 9 10 11 12 21 22 23 24 Is there an easy way to do this? should I be using 6 Items Controls and take "sections" of my list? is there a good way to do this? What about notification? It's important to note that I may, or may not, have all 24 entries present, but the layout needs to be maintained (think of it like filled slots on a bingo card or something)

  Hi all! WPF is great because there are many things to achieve own goals. By example, for what I understand, adorners can add some controls to a UI element, but I think that the same behavior can be achieved through a custom control that contains the additional element. So, my question is: when should I prefer adorners to a more complex (but I think, more flexible) custom control? Please consider that I'm extensively using MVVM pattern and I would like to bind commands to the additional element.   Say i have these classes ViewA and ViewB In objective C using the delegate pattern I could do @protocol ViewBDelegate{ - (void) doSomething(); } then in ViewB interface: id<ViewBDelegate> delegate; then in ViewA implementation i set the delegate: viewB.delegate = self; and now I can call in doSomething from viewB onto any that unknown type delegate. [delegate doSomething]; "C++ How to Program" has been the worse read an can't find simple examples that demonstrates basic design patterns. What i'm looking for in C++ is: events ActionScript and java either delegates or notifications in Objective C anything that allows class A, Class B and Class C to know that ClassX didSomething()!!! thanks

• Ping or otherwise tell if a device is on the network by MAC in C#

  I'm developing a home security application. One thing I'd like to do is automatically turn it off and on based on whether or not I'm at home. I have a phone with Wifi that automatically connects to my network when I'm home. The phone connects and gets its address via DHCP. While I could configure it to use a static IP, I'd rather not. Is there any kind of 'Ping' or equivalent in C# / .Net that can take the MAC address of a device and tell me whether or not it's currently active on the network?

• Is there a way to highlight specific words or numbers without inserting a span tag?

  I've got blocks of text with various specs in them and want to have jquery highlight whatever matches a specific pattern without inserting any extra html. The following is the kind of text that I've got to work with. Intel® Core™ i7 Processor 920 (2.66GHz, 8MB cache, 4.8GT/sec)/ Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium 64bit- English/ 640 GB Serial ATA non Raid (7200 Rpm)/ 6GB 1333MHz (3x2GB) Tri Channel Memory/ Display Not Included/ 16X DVD+/- RW Optical Drive (DVD & CD read and write)/ 1.8GB NVIDIA® GeForce™ GTX260 graphics card/ Integrated HDA 7.1 Dolby Digital Audio What I'm hoping jquery can do is highlight some of the basic specs without inserting any extra html. Maybe working off a list of values matching the spec format using some wildcards where neededed? The css to select the correct tag is #list div div div+p or I could just give the p class but would rather not. Is this kind of thing possible?

• MVC - Sanitizing data, where?

  I'm using CakePHP but it's a question about the MVC pattern. I have in my form the input-text for the tags (separated by commas). To add the tags I've created a Tag model method that basically check if the tag exists and then add the new tag or just a new unit in the tag counter (the Tag model has these fields: id, name, slug, count). In the controller I explode the tags field and pass one tag at a time. The question is: where do I sanitize data? In the controller or in the model method? I think it should be in the controller because that's where I explode but in term of reusability I think I should sanitize data in the model. What do you think?

  Hi all, in my windows form (Visual C++ 6.0) I'm using an Active x control called "CDTPicker" (CDTPicker : public CWnd).   In my project I have it set up so that all the tables in the DB has the property "id" and then I have the entity objects inherit from the EntityBase class using a repository pattern. I then set the inheritance modifier for "id" property in the dbml file o/r designer to "overrides" Public MustInherit Class EntityBase MustOverride Property id() As Integer End Class Public MustInherit Class RepositoryBase(Of T As EntityBase) Protected _Db As New DataClasses1DataContext Public Function GetById(ByVal Id As Integer) As T Return (From a In _Db.GetTable(Of T)() Where a.id = Id).SingleOrDefault End Function End Class Partial Public Class Entity1 Inherits EntityBase End Class Public Class TestRepository Inherits RepositoryBase(Of Entity1) End Class the line Return (From a In _Db.GetTable(Of T)() Where a.id = Id).SingleOrDefault however produces the error "Class member EntityBase.id is unmapped" when i use VS 2010 using the 4.0 framework but I never received that error with the old one. • How to handle expired items?

  My site allows users to post things on the site with an expiry date. Once the item has expired, it will no longer be displayed in the listings. Posts can also be closed, canceled, or completed. I think it would be be nicest just to be able to check for one attribute or status ("is active") rather than having to check for [is not expired, is not completed, is not closed, is not canceled]. Handling the rest of those is easy because I can just have one "status" field which is essentially an enum, but AFAIK, it's impossible to set the status to "expired" as soon as that time occurs. How do people typically handle this?

• Google Gears hangs when capturing (unmanaged resource store)

  Our code was written based on the example from Google Gears' own docs. We're using an unmanaged resource store. So we declare the files in an array, create the store, and capture all the files. Trouble is, the capturing process hangs. It always hangs on a random file (no discernible pattern has emerged), and when you reload the page, it always successfully captures. We're capturing 48 files. It seems to have nothing to do with the files themselves, as it hangs on every file type. I've seen it hang on the 6th file or the 47th. Windows and Mac. FF, IE, and Safari. We are not using a WorkerPool, and I'm thinking this may be necessary. Any other ideas why it would hang?

• Using Remote Web Page to Initialize iPhone App

  My iPhone app relies on a vendor's XML feed to provide data. But that feed is not locked down. The vendor could change the format of the XML at any time, although so far they've promised not to. Since I might want to tell my app to use a different URL for its data source, I'd like to set up a single "Command Central" Web page, on my own server, to direct the app to the correct data source. In other words, each time my app starts, in the background and unseen by the user, it would visit "http://www.myserver.com/iphoneapp_data_sources.xml" to retrieve the URL for retrieving data from my vendor. That way, if my vendor suddenly changes the exact URL or the XML feed that the app needs, I can update that Web page and ensure that all installations of the app are using the correct XML feed. Does anyone have any advice or examples showing this kind of approach? It seems as if this must be a common problem, but so far I haven't found a well-established design pattern that fits it.

  Hello everyone. I would like to create a vertical splitted site structure using two divs: My intention is to have d2 next to d1 in a horizontal align structure (same line). What i get is not this. In fact using that code, d2 does not take the remaining space, but collapses to the min width. if I use WRONG because d2 goes down and takes all the space (but both divs are in different lines). HOW TO REACH MY OBJECTIVE? Is there a design pattern for this problem???? Thanks.

• Specify artifact version outside of pom

  Is there a way to specify the artifact version outside of the POM file? I have 2 CI projects that build an artifact. One builds a "stable" development version from a 'develop' branch and the other builds an unstable version which is the result of merging all active feature branches into the develop branch. I want the stable version to build as xyz-1.0.jar and the integration build to go in as xyz-1.0-SNAPSHOT.jar. Is there a way for the CI job to run a maven task or specify via the command line if a release or snapshot jar should be built without manually modifying the POM? Currently I have the version specified as 1.0 in the pom. I considered using the release plugin but I don't want the automatic version number increase and tagging that it does.

• What's the fastest way to compare two objects in PHP?

  Let's say I have an object - a User object in this case - and I'd like to be able to track changes to with a separate class. The User object should not have to change it's behavior in any way for this to happen. Therefore, my separate class creates a "clean" copy of it, stores it somewhere locally, and then later can compare the User object to the original version to see if anything changed during its lifespan. Is there a function, a pattern, or anything that can quickly compare the two versions of the User object? Option 1 Maybe I could serialize each version, and directly compare, or hash them and compare? Option 2 Maybe I should simply create a ReflectionClass, run through each of the properties of the class and see if the two versions have the same property values? Option 3 Maybe there is a simple native function like objects_are_equal($object1,$object2);? What's the fastest way to do this?

Following the tutorial given in haystack site, I have urlpatterns = pattern('', r'^search/', include('haystack.urls')) I found haystack installed in /usr/local/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/haystack and located urls.py there. It has urlpatterns=patterns('haystack.views', url(r'^$', SearchView(), name='haystack_search'),) I thought the second argument of url() should be callable object. I looked at the views.py and SearchView is a class. What is going on here? What's get called eventually?

  Hi, I'm surprised this question wasn't asked before on SO (well, at least I couldn't find it). Have you ever designed a method-callback pattern (something like a "pointer" to a class method) in C++ and, if so, how did you do it ? I know a method is just a regular function with some hidden this parameter to serve as a context and I have a pretty simple design in mind. However, since things are often more complex than they seem to, I wonder how our C++ gurus would implement this, preferably in an elegant and standard way. All suggestions are welcome !

  I'm learning Scala and I want to know the best way of expressing this imperative pattern using Scala's functional programming capabilities. def f(l: List[Int]): Boolean = { for (e <- l) { if (test(e)) return true } } return false } The best I can come up with is along the lines of: l map { e => test(e) } contains true But this is less efficient since it calls test() on each element, whereas the imperative version stops on the first element that satisfies test(). Is there a more idiomatic functional programming technique I can use to the same effect? The imperative version seems awkward in Scala.
