• ColdFusion - pass regex backreference to function call

  Hi, I'm using ColdFusion's reReplace() function for regular expression pattern replacement. I'd like to use a function call for the replacement string, and pass a matched backreference to it. Something like this: <cfset s = "STARTDATE_2010-05-07 00:05:00.0_ENDDATE" /> <cfset s = reReplace(s, "STARTDATE_([\s-.:0-9]*)_ENDDATE", dateAdd("h", 1, "\1")) /> But that fails because "The value of parameter 3, which is currently \1, must be a class java.util.Date value."   Hi, I was wondering, what would be the best way to validate an integer. Is there any better way to write this kind of function. I've also tried filter_var($foo, FILTER_VALIDATE_INT); but it won't accept values like '0003', '-0' etc.

I need to match the exact number of alphanumeric characters with the dashes to differentiate this message id from anything else, which may be passed to this bash script. • Injecting a dependancy into a base class

  Hey everyone, I'm on a roll today with questions. I'm starting out with Dependency Injection and am having some trouble injecting a dependency into a base class. I have a BaseController controller which my other controllers inherit from. Inside of this base controller I do a number of checks such as determining if the user has the right privileges to view the current page, checking for the existence of some session variables etc. I have a dependency inside of this base controller that I'd like to inject using Ninject however when I set this up as I would for my other dependencies I'm told by the compiler that: Error 1 'MyProject.Controllers.BaseController' does not contain a constructor that takes 0 argument This makes sense but I'm just not sure how to inject this dependency. Should I be using this pattern of using a base controller at all or should I be doing this in a more efficient/correct way?

  Hi everyone, I am trying to implement the "Closure Table" structure in a php/mySQL webapp from Bill Karwins "SQL Antipatterns" slideshare presentation: http://www.slideshare.net/billkarwin/sql-antipatterns-strike-back The first step is to insert some stuff into my tree (page 73 in slide): Easy to insert a new child of comment #5: INSERT INTO Comments ... (Generates comment #8) INSERT INTO TreePaths (ancestor, descendant) VALUES (8, 8); INSERT INTO TreePaths (ancestor, descendant) SELECT ancestor, 8 FROM TreePaths WHERE descendant = 5; I try to translate all this into Codeigniters active record db-style language, and that's about where I get stuck. I cant understand how the second insert gets it's values. Is there anyone out there who can help me out with this?

• 'is instanceof' Interface bad design

  Say I have a class A class A { Z source; } Now, the context tells me that 'Z' can be an instance of different classes (say, B and C) which doesn't share any common class in their inheritance tree. I guess the naive approach is to make 'Z' an Interface class, and make classes B and C implement it. But something still doesn't convince me because every time an instance of class A is used, I need to know the type of 'source'. So all finishes in multiple 'ifs' making 'is instanceof' which doesn't sound quite nice. Maybe in the future some other class implements Z, and having hardcoded 'ifs' of this type definitely could break something. The escence of the problem is that I cannot resolve the issue by adding functions to Z, because the work done in each instance type of Z is different. I hope someone can give me and advice, maybe about some useful design pattern. Thanks

• Move/copy files/folder in linux/solaris using only bash built-ins

  There was a situation when somebody moved the whole rootdir into a subdir on a remote system, thus all the system tools like cp, mv, etc didn't work anymore. We had an active session though but couldn't find a way to copy/move the files back using only bash built-ins. Do somebody know of a way to achieve this? I even thought about copy the cp or mv binary in the currentdir with while read -r; do echo $LINE; done and then redirect this to a file, but it didn't work. Guess because of all the special non printable chars in a binary file that can't be copied/displayed using echo. thanks.

• How to search for duplicate values in a huge text file having around Half Million records

  I have an input txt file which has data in the form of records (each row is a record and represents more or less like a DB table) and I need to find for duplicate values. For example: Rec1: ACCOUNT_NBR_1*NAME_1*VALUE_1 Rec2: ACCOUNT_NBR_2*NAME_2*VALUE_2 Rec3: ACCOUNT_NBR_1*NAME_3*VALUE_3 In the above set, the Rec1 and Rec2 are considered to be duplicates as the ACCOUNT NUMBERS are same(ACCOUNT_NBR1). Note: The input file shown above is a delimiter type file (the delimiter being *) however the file type can also be a fixed length file where each column starts and ends with a specified positions. I am currently doing this with the following logic: Loop thru each ACCOUNT NUMBER Loop thru each line of the txt file and record and check if this is repeated. If repeated record the same in a hashtable. End End And I am using 'Pattern' & 'BufferedReader' java API's to perform the above task. But since it is taking a long time, I would like to know a better way of handling it. Thanks, Shibu

• C#: Creating an editable object inside a PictureBox

  My goal is to let the user click on a specific location on a map to add a Placemark, and then edit the placemark by click its icon (change its name, move it around, etc). I am using a PictureBox to show the map, and by registering the MouseDoubleClick event I am drawing an Image on the map with GDI+ DrawImage() method. The problem is that after the placemark's Image was drawn, it does not editable: the user cant click the icon and move it around, change its name etc. Is there any other design pattern I can follow? maybe using other controls... ?

• filter log file by defining regexes

  I have some HUGE log files (50Mb; ~500K lines) I need to start filtering some of the crap out of. The log files are being produced using log4j and have the basic pattern of: [log-level] date-time class etc, etc log-message I'm looking for a way that I can identify a regex start and regex end (or something similar) that will filter out the matching entries from the file so I can more easily wade through these massive files. I'm sure I could write a java program to accomplish this task, but I thought I'd ask the community before going down that path. Thanks in advance.

• Django - Static content display based on URL

  I'm working on a Django site with a basic three column design. Left column navigation, center column content and right column URL specific content blocks. My question is about the best method of controlling the URL specific content blocks in the right column. I am thinking of something along the lines of the Flatpages app that will make the content available to the template context if the URL matches a pre-determined pattern (perhaps regex?). Does anyone know if such an app already exists? If not, I am looking for some advice about the best way to implement it. Particularly in relation to the matching of patterns to the current URL. Is there any good way to re-use parts of the Django URL dispatcher for this use?

• Buffering db inserts in multithreaded program

  I have a system which breaks a large taks into small tasks using about 30 threads as a time. As each individual thread finishes it persists its calculated results to the database. What I want to achieve is to have each thread pass its results to a new persisance class that will perform a type of double buffering and data persistance while running in its own thread. For example, after 100 threads have moved their data to the buffer the persistance class then the persistance class swaps the buffers and persists all 100 entries to the database. This would allow utilization of prepared statements and thus cut way down on the I/O between the program and the database. Is there a pattern or good example of this type of multithreading double buffering?

  Hi All, I'm trying to get a simple code working, unfortunatly im a python beginner.   I'm not interested in a hardware solution, I want to know about software that may "read" modulated signal received trough the power supply - some sort of a low-level driver that would access the power signal in a convenient place and demodulate it. Is there a way to receive signal from the computer's power supply? I'm interested in an API or library that would allow the computer to be seen as a node in a Power Line Communication network and receive data directly through the power cable, without the need for a converter. Is there any active research in this field? Edit: There is software that reads monitors and displays internal component voltages - DC voltage after being converted and filtered by the power supply - now I need is a method of data encoding that would be invariant to conversion and filtering, the original signal embedded in AC being present in some form within the converted DC signal.

• What's the right way to handle "One, Both, or None" logic?

  I have a logic situation that is best described as two "Teams" trying to win a task. The outcome of this task could be a single winner, a tie (draw), or no winner (stalemate). Alternatively is the pattern of use wrong - it would be straightforward to subclass the Controller (again) to distinguish between the two and retain common code if that is a more appropriate solution.

• Creating a db driven primary navigation in django?

  I find that it's pretty common most people hardcode the navigation into their templates, but I'm dealing with a pretty dynamic news site which might be better off if the primary nav was db driven. So I was thinking of having a Navigation model where each row would be a link. link_id INT primary key link_name varchar(255) url varchar(255) order INT active boolean If anyone's done something similar in the past, would you say this sort of schema is good enough? I also wanted for there to be an optional dropdown in the admin near the url field so that a user could choose a Category model's slug since category links would be common, but I'm not quite sure how that would be possible.

I'm really not sure where to start, so any help would be appreciated. my initial idea was to compare this image with other images. • How to tell iPhone NSURLConnection to abort

  I have an app that makes moderate use of NSURLConnection. These async calls eventually finish and release properly (it looks like), but sometimes it takes some time for them to finish. So, there are times when I exit the app, (note, not just sending it the background), that some of these connections are still active. If I immediately restart the app, the app freezes on startup. (didFinishLaunchingWithOptions never seems to get called). While I'm not certain these connections are the issue, it would probably be good to terminate or cancel any remaining. Any suggestions on how to do this? Bonus points on how to debug the restart also. (I'm already saving NSLog statements to a downloadable file)

I guess when implementing static synchronized method, a lock belongs to Class object is used so that multiple static synchronized methods may degrade performance of the system. Am I right? or JVM use other mechanism to implement static synchronized method? What's the best practice if I have to implement multiple static synchronized methods in a class? Thank you all! (I have snipped off the project specific items.) I know that each todo will be quite tied up to its project and technologies used. • What is a good architecture for a Lift-JPA application?

  I was wondering what is the best practice for a JPA model in Lift? I noticed that in the jpa demo application, there is just a Model object that is like a super object that does everything. I don't think this can be the most scalable approach, no? Is it is wise to still do the DAO pattern in Lift? For example, there's some code that looks a tad bloated and could be simplified across all model objects: Model.remove(Model.getReference(classOf[Author], someId)) Could be: AuthorDao.remove(someId) I'd appreciate any tips for setting up something that will work with the way Lift wants to work and is also easy to organize and maintain. Preferably from someone who has actually used JPA on a medium to large Lift site rather than just postulating what Spring does (we know how to do that) ;) The first phase of development will be around 30-40 tables, and will eventually get to over 100... we need a scalable, neat approach.
